OAKES, ROSARIA VENEZIA Passed away on November 5, 2001 at the age of 91. Born in Sacramento on November 2, 1910. Loving mother of Rose Weymouth and Anthony Muchetto. Dearly beloved grandmother of Valerie Hilton and great-grandmother to Kori, William, and Douglas Hilton. Rosaria was like a mother to her granddaughter Valerie and was an important part of her life. Rosaria was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Oakes, her brother, Cy Venezia, and her sister, Rosale Click. Rosaria worked for Libby McNeil and Libby Cannery for 25 years as a canner and supervisor, She was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #9. Rosaria loved to dance and was a member of the Sacramento Senior's Club where she attended dances on Sunday afternoons. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Saturday, November 10th, and Sunday, November 11th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at ANDREWS & GREILICH MORTUARY , 3939 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento, and the Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2001 at 2:00 PM at EAST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL , 43rd and Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. PAPE, ALBERT KARL Passed away in Sacramento, November 6, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Age 84. Dearly beloved husband for 60 years of Florence Todd Pape, loving father of Karl D. Pape and wife, Becky of Seattle, WA and Craig G. Pape of Sacramento. Brother of Lois Hunt and husband Wilfred of Carmichael, and nephew, Robert Wilfred Hunt, and wife Lisa. Cousin Charlotte Ann Zach and husband, Joseph Zach of Santa Rosa, daughters, Sarah and Julie. Attended Sacramento High School class of '35. Sacramento City College and Sacramento State University. He was active in the Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout Rank and Order of the Arrow, a camp counselor and adult scout leader in Troop 21. Participated in the family business until called into WWII as a pilot instructor in the Air Force Training Command. For 17 months flew missions in the Korean Affair. After his military service he reestablished his painting business but continued his love for flying. He was a member and served as deacon and elder in Fremont Presbyterian Church, belonged to  Washington F & A Massons and Ben Ali Shrine, member of Sigma Alpa Epsilon fraternity. Private graveside service to be held at East Lawn Memorial Park at 43rd & Folsom Blvd, 2 PM, Monday November 12, 2001 for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fremont Presbyterian Church building fund, Shriners childrens Hospital and the Sutter Hospice of Sacramento 2800 L Street, Sacramento, CA 95816.

RANSOME, BERNARD "BARNEY" Age 87 passed away on October 31, 2001 in Auburn, California. He was born on July 2, 1914 in Plainfield, New Jersey to Wilford and Jessie Coit Ransome and was raised in Berkeley, California where he graduated from Berkeley High School in 1931 and from the University of California at Berkeley in 1935. He became a physical education teacher and began his career in Elk Grove. He also taught in Martinez and later moved to Roseville, California where he taught at Roseville High from 1947 until he retired in 1979. He was Athletic Director and coached football, basketball, baseball and golf. He enjoyed sports as a participant, coach and spectator. Reading, gardening, golfing and cooking were his favorite leisure activities. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Steiner Ransome and his second wife, Betty Cornelius Ransome. He is survived by his two children John Coit Ransome and Catherine Ransome Eklund, his daughter-in-law Judi Ransome, son-in-law Daryl Eklund and three grandchildren, Kaelin Ransome, and Katherine and Eric Eklund. The family extends an invitation to a celebration of Bernard's life on November 17, 2001 from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Roseville Art Center at 424 Oak Street, Roseville, California. In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Neptune Society of Grass Valley.

CHARLIE (BROWN) In Sacramento, November 8, 2001. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Gini and stepsons Kris and Lee Garrison. Charlie was a fighter pilot for the Air Force during WWII and for the past 40 years he was a salesman in the Sacramento area. His joyful and exuberant personality will be sadly missed by his family and friends. SERAFIN, ALEXANDER S. In Sacramento November 10, 2001. Beloved husband for 58 years of Jean A. Serafin. Loving father of Carolyn L. Serafin and Suzanne J. Judd with husband, Thomas. Dear Godfather of John Ferry. Devoted grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 11. Dear brother-in-law of 4. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Al retired with 28 years service as a Sgt. Major in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He served for many years as a volunteer at various food banks in the area such as Loaves and Fishes and also worked with Senior Gleaners. SHIMEL, LOUISE FLORENCE Born in Baltimore, Maryland. Passed away in Sacramento at the age of 74. Survived by Edward, her husband of 49 years, a daughter Vickie (John) Micheels, a son Brad (Cindy) Shimel, and 4 grandchildren. She will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. SLAYMAN, JEAN S. Entered into rest Tuesday, November 6, 2001, age 73 years. Born Thursday, March 1, 1928, in Woodstock,  West Virginia and a resident of Rio Linda for 33 years. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Rio Linda. Devoted and loving mother of Vonnie MacDonald, Nancy Owens, Leon Steep, Marie Jones, Lisa Bingaman, and Roxanne Mesina. Also survived by 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband Bucky Slayman, son Rocky, two brothers and two sisters. She is loved and will be truly missed by all who knew her. TODD, MICHAEL E. Passed November 4, 2001 at home in Carmichael of prostate cancer age 57. Mike was a respected lawyer and practiced law in Sacramento for the past 16 yrs. Mike graduated from Aldelphi University in New York and Mc George School of law. Mike worked for the past 10 yrs as in-house counsel for Nationwide Ins. Group. Mike was born & raised in Long Island, NY. & moved to California in 1973. He is survived by his beloved daughter Sarah Jean; wife Donna, former spouse Deanna Todd, and sister Ginny Todd of NY. Preceded in death by his mother & father, Virginia Fraites Todd and Edward Todd of NY. Mike served in the U.S. NAVY during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Salamonie. Mike will forever be missed by his friends Paul Ryan, Bill Seabridge, Rigo Herrera, Duncan Simmons, Richard & Susan Hammer, Marilyn Rea, Jesse Rivera, Jeffrey Bowden, Carole Paddelford, Matilda Rao, & Mike's grade school pal, Joe Olt. WONG, DON YIU Age 86, passed away on November 7, 2001. Born July 15, 1915 in Toishan, China. He left a successful accounting career in Hong Kong and journeyed with his wife, King Chun, to the United States in 1956 to provide his family an opportunity to the American Dream. He was a hard worker, a self-taught carpenter, and the best at his trade. He was an accomplished and published writer of Chinese poetry and literature. He will be remembered by his daughter Lily and her husband Phillip Yee; daughter Tuen; sons William and Jackson; son Samuel and his wife Jan; ten grandchildren; two grandsons-in-law, four great grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. CLEMENCE, JAMES ELDEAN Born July 2, 1914, in Delmont,  Pennsylvania. Passed away at home November 2001, at age 87. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years Elizabeth (Busy) Clemence. His loving sons, James Barry and Robert Wayne, survive Jim. Five grandchildren, Christopher, John, Shannon, Sara, and Todd; three great grandchildren, Jennifer, Patrick, and Brenden; one great great grandchild; his loving niece Linda Clemence Reib and her husband Larry; his companion and dear friend, Lenora Meddles; his sister-in-law Jeannette Hoffman and her husband Darwin. Jim was in the grocery business all his life and a member of Retail Clerks Local 588 Union. He enjoyed many activities and weekends on his houseboat where he entertained family and friends. Jim was an avid golfer and a member of Mission Oaks Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing pinochle. He was a member of the Nifty Fifties Senior Group, attending breakfasts, parties, and other activities and will be missed there by many of his friends. A gathering of family and friends celebrating Jim's life will be held Saturday, November 17, from 12-4, at 2313 Santa Anita Drive, Sacramento. COWART, MARSHA MICHIKO Southern Cheyenne/Japanese-American, born August 30, 1981, passed away October 30, 2001 at age twenty due to an auto accident. She will be sadly missed by her parents, Gary Sr. and Elaine; siblings, Leon Mayes, Gary Jr., and Melissa; and her nephew and nieces. She will also be missed by her extended family, Ben, Maxine, Kimberly, Carrie, Christy, Sean, Elizabeth, Jammi, Jesse, Pauline, Nikki, Mary Rose, Jackie, Irene, Ben, and by all of her many friends. CURRAN, MARIE I. Born Nov. 30, 1910 in Russo, Switzerland. Passed away Nov. 6, 2001. Resident of Sacramento since 1920. Mother of Robert, Fountain Hills, AZ and James, Sacramento, CA. Grandmother of Robbie, John and Jamie, also 5 great-grandchildren. Sister of Amalia Fluallen, Annie Rossi and the late Nino Poncioni. ELORDUY, MIKE RETA Rosary and Mass for Mike Reta Elorduy, a longtime leader in the California Labor Movement will be said at St. Rose Parish, 5961 Franklin Blvd., Sacramento, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001 at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends are welcome Visitation Monday, Nov. 12, 2001 at Nicoletti, Culjis, & Herberger, 5401 Folsom Blvd., from Noon to 5:00 PM. He died Nov. 8, 2001 at 86 years of age. Mr. Elorduy was a retired Secretary-Treasurer, Teamsters' California State Council of Cannery and Food Processing Unions. He had been appointed by then governors Ronald Reagan and Edmund G. Brown Jr. to serve on State Industrial Welfare Commission, State Industrial Safety and Wage Commission and the Labor Management Advisory Council, Department of Human Resources Development. Mr. Elorduy was also active in Sacramento Civic and Community Affairs. He was appointed by the Sacramento City Council to five four-year terms as a Commissioner of the Sacramento-Yolo Port District. He served as a Board of Director for the United Crusade, American Red Cross, Community Welfare Council, Community Chest, Mercy Clinic for Children, Safety Council; Senior Citizen volunteer Bureau, and a Queen escort at the Sacramento Camellia Festival. He was a member of Sacramento Lodge No. 6 B.P.O. Elks, a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus-Bishop Monoque General Assembly, a Third Degree Knights of Columbus Lodge No. 953, S.I.R.S. LaSalle Club, Over the Hill Gang and the Basque Club. A native Sacramentan, Mr. Elorduy was raised in Pleasant Grove and graduated from East Nicholas High School where he was the Student Body President his senior year and participated in baseball and speed ball. Mr. Elorduy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carmen; sons Michael and Richard; Daughters-in-laws, Nancy and Marryan; grandsons, Peter, Todd, Dan, and Jeff; granddaughters-in-laws, Michelle and Katherine; great grandchildren, Jessica Marie and Jason; several nieces and nephew. He was brother to surviving sister, Julia Mugartegui and the late Julian and Filomena Reta Elorduy (parents); Julian Elorduy Jr. and Felix Elorduy. FLETCHER, QUENTIN H. In Carmichael, CA on November 9, 2001 at the age of 84. A native of Utah. A resident of Rocklin, CA for the past 12 years. Preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Fletcher. Survived by his daughter, Wendy Joyce of Carmichael, CA; son, David Q. Fletcher of Linden, CA; grandchildren Erica Joyce, Gregory Joyce, Duncan Fletcher, and Meredith Fletcher. A WWII navy Veteran. GASTON, JULIA Born August 18, 1921 in Levy,  South Carolina, peacefully passed away on November 7, 2001 in Sacramento, California. She lived in New York City, New York, for more than 55 years, before moving to California in July of 1997. She is survived by her son, Andrew, daughter-in-law Kim, grandson Anthony, granddaughter Julia, great-granddaughters Symone and Mila, great-grandson Nicholas, Nephews Louis Jr. and Fred, Niece Ginnell and many other relatives and friends. GISLER, CLARA MARGARET In Sacramento on November 6, 2001 aged 86 years. A native of Marysville, CA and a resident of Sacramento for 85 years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joel Gisler and Cheri; also grandchildren Stacey and Michelle Gisler, all of Sacramento. She was the last surviving child of Manuel and Mary Foster. Mrs. Gisler was preceded in death by her husband Joe Gisler in 1998 and grandson Richard Gisler in 1978. She was a member of The American Portuguese Club of Sacramento, also SPRS1 #16 and UPPEC #47 of Sacramento where she served as secretary for 40 yrs. IZARRARAS, JOHN M. Passed away in Sacramento on November 08, 2001 at the age of 75 years. A native of Laredo,  Texas, a resident of Sacramento for 64 years. He was a life long teamster member working as a truck driver for 33 years. He started with Clark Trucking and retired from ABF Trucking. He enjoyed his grandchildren and loved going to Reno. Beloved husband of Sally Izarraras. Loving father of John R. Izarraras, Mary Escobar, Corrine Mariscal, Shirley Drewry, Rita Cesena, Linda Alvarez, Juanita Chochla, Tina Mc Leod and Terri Izarraras. Devoted grandfather of 21 and great grandfather of 10. Preceded in death by his grandson John J. Izarraras. KLEIN, SHAWNTEL LE Born in San Jose, CA in 1951, left this earth on Thursday, November 8th, 2001. She is survived by many who loved her, daughter, Melissa Nicole and husband James Frederick Kasch, daughter, Lyndsey Janine Klein, husband, Richard Warren Klein, beloved and cherished grandsons, Tyler Sean and Bryce John Kasch, mother, Jean Y. Boswell, sister, Leesa Janine Davis, niece, Brooke Avery Boswell, and brother, Kevin Boswell and his family. Shawntel was a dedicated RN for many years. Her many interests included softball and Kings basketball. She will be missed dearly by her family and many friends, as she was dedicated to all that came into her life. KUECHLER, ROBERT L. 08/05/31 - 11/07/01 Peacefully passed away with his family by his side on November 7, 2001 at the age of 70. Devoted husband of Patsy Kuechler for 36 years. Loving father of Walter, Neal, Cecilia, Greg, Patricia, David, Paul, and Susan. Adoring grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of 1. Cherished brother of Shirley Turner and Jack Kuechler. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Kuechler and Louise Eckles, stepfather Clyde Eckles and son David Barnwell. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was an avid fishing buddy of Walt Franklin. MACAULAY, DAVID 1920 - 2001 David Macaulay, who served on the Sacramento City Council from 1949-50, an active civic and business leader in the Sacramento area, died Wednesday November 7 of heart failure. He was 81. A native of Sacramento, he graduated from Sacramento High School in 1938 and Stanford University in 1942 before serving as a Lieutenant in the US Navy on a destroyer in the Pacific during World War II. Following his return to civilian life, he became owner of Lawrence Mayflower Moving & Storage where he served the growing population of Sacramento until his retirement in 1994. During this time he served on the Boards of the National Furniture Warehouseman's Association, National Mayflower Moving Association, and was President of the California Moving & Storage Association. Also, a committed activist for the local community, he served on the Boards of the Sutter Hospitals, the Sacramento Rotary Club, the Sacramento Children's Society and was President and founding member of the Sacramento chapter of the Navy League of the United States. "David was a man who enjoyed each and every person he had ever met", said long time friend Dr. Douglas Kennedy. "His love of people and the community was the reason he spent so much time and energy working for their betterment." In addition to his professional activities Mr. Macaulay was active in local politics. His time on the City Council was the only elected office he held but behind the scenes he worked as a tireless campaign worker for Federal District Court Judge, Thomas McBride, US Senator from California, Thomas Kuechel and Republican Primary US Presidential Candidate, Nelson Rockefeller. He was also an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, and a very involved parent and husband. "My father had an amazing affinity for people", said son David. "I honestly believe he remembered everyone he ever met. What was special was his ability to bring that enjoyment home and maintain a proper balance between work, social and family life." Mr. Macaulay is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Laura of Sacramento, and son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, David, Ginny and Casey of Munich Germany. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the All Saints Episcopal Church, Sutterville Road, followed by a 2:30 reception at the Del Paso Country Club, Marconi Ave. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of choice.

MARTIN, EDWIN FREDERICK Born on May 27, 1907 in Blue Hill, Nebraska. Passed away on November 6, 2001 in Folsom, CA. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Rena Mae Martin and his brother, Herbert J. Martin. Loving father of Diane Haug and David Martin and father-in- law of Wayne Haug and Anna Martin. He leaves his grandchildren: Debbie Biggs (husband Tony), Alan Haug, Michael Martin, Michelle Martin and 4 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sister, Dorothy Fine of Fresno, CA. He grew up in Nebraska and moved to California in 1932. Ed worked as an Equipment Serviceman for the City of Sacramento and retired in August 1970. He was a member of the International Alliance of Stage and Theatrical Employees, Local #50 and worked at various theatrical productions, such as the Music Circus. He had an active retirement, enjoying teaching stained glass at the local senior centers and traveling worldwide with his wife. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank Steve Molina and his staff for the wonderful care they provided Ed for the last two years. His loving family will sadly miss him. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held. The family request in lieu of your attendance, please spend a day with your parents. Remembrances preferred to the Alzheimer's Association. JOSEPH JR. Joseph Niedzwiedz, born on September 11, 1935, passed away gently at home in Sacramento, California on November 6, 2001, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived and cherished by his beloved wire of 42 years, Judith Trowe Niedzwiedz. He also leaves and is loved by his son John Niedzwiedz, daughter Alicia Davis, son-in-law Aaron Davis, Sr., grandsons Carl and Adam Niedzwiedz and Aaron Davis Jr., and granddaughter Anna Davis, all of Sacramento. He is survived and cherished by his loving mother Veronica Niedzwiedz, brother Charles Niedzwiedz and sister-in-law Saundra, nephews Donn Niedzwiedz (April and Cody) all of Westminster,  South Carolina, and Chris Niedzwiedz (Brenda) of Florida. His father Joseph Niedzwiedz Sr. preceded him in death. Mr. Niedzwiedz was born and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, educated in Fairfield County schools and entered the U.S. Air Force in 1953. He served with Air Rescue in Labrador and the Strategic Air Command at Travis and Mather Air Force Bases. He left the Air Force in 1961 and owned and operated two Joe's Chevron Stations in Sacramento for 28 more years. After retiring he worked as a diesel engine mechanic at the Sacramento Lumber Jack Distribution Center, retiring only after a long battle with lung and tongue cancers. Mr. Niedzwiedz was an avid golfer, mariner and fisherman, spending many hours on the links and waterways around California and beyond. He was a member and past president of the Sacramento Lions Club and a member and past Commander of the Twelfth District U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He had an extensive collection of polkas and other Polish music which he loved to share with family and friends. He has been cared for at home by his wife for the last ten years and spent his last days in the loving embrace of his family. The family wishes to thank the staff of Kaiser Hospice Program for the care and support which provided comfort, love and dignity to Mr. Niedzwiedz & his family in his final days. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Florin Road and Gardner Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95828. Inurnment will be private and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or the Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program, 2025 Morse Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95825. Arrangements by East Lawn Mortuary at Sierra Hills Memorial Park.

CHARLIE (BROWN) In Sacramento, November 8, 2001. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Gini and stepsons Kris and Lee Garrison. Charlie was a fighter pilot for the Air Force during WWII and for the past 40 years he was a salesman in the Sacramento area. His joyful and exuberant personality will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Elk Grove Funeral Chapel 9101 Elk Grove Blvd., on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at 11:00 AM. SCHOCK, RUDOLPH Passed away in Sacramento Nov. 07, 2001. He was born April 6,1910. Beloved husband of the late Marie for 65 years. Father of Dolores Adomson (John) Orell James, Vern Schock (Karen) all of Sacramento, Curt Schock (Ginger) of Belmont, CA. Great Great Grandfather of 2. Great Grandfather of 11 and Grandfather of 8. A Native of North Dakota and a resident of Sacramento since 1941. Retired from Bercuit Richards Cannery after more than 30 years. Friends are invited to the viewing Nov. 12 from 5-8PM and funeral service on Nov. 13 at 11:00AM at Sacramento Garden Chapel, 6100 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA. Felicia Daniels -Funeral Director. SERAFIN, ALEXANDER S. In Sacramento November 10, 2001. Beloved husband for 58 years of Jean A. Serafin. Loving father of Carolyn L. Serafin and Suzanne J. Judd with husband, Thomas. Dear Godfather of John Ferry. Devoted grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 11. Dear brother-in-law of 4. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Al retired with 28 years service as a Sgt. Major in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He served for many years as a volunteer at various food banks in the area such as Loaves and Fishes and also worked with Senior Gleaners. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Presentation Catholic Church, 4123 Robertson Ave., Sacramento, CA 95821. Rosary is Monday, November 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the Presentation Church. Donations may be made in his memory to Presentation Parish.
