DUNN JR., RAYMOND Was born May 26, 1956 and passed away on November 11, 2001, aged 45 years. ENGELHARD, LEO 11/05/41 - 11/15/01 Where's Leo you ask? He's gone home to rest peacefully after an incredibly courageous battle with cancer. He was a Jazz Jubilee volunteer for over 20 years as well as donating much of his time to building backstops for little league and softball fields all over Sac. In more recent years he found a love for flying and was working toward his pilots license while flying his own plane. In the past few months, he enjoyed spending time with his son Brian, daughter Brandie, son-in-law Don, and grandchildren Jacob, Jacqueline and Jessica. He passed away at home with them. GAONA JR., JOSEPH Born September 4, 1926 in Ambridge, PA. Entered into rest November 18, 2001 in Orangevale, CA after a long illness. He was a WWII Veteran having served in the United States Navy and was a member of Painters Union Local 487 for 41 years. Beloved husband of Martha Gaona, Citrus Heights. Loving father of Mark Gaona of Orangevale and Margaret Pohle of Granite Bay. Loving Grandfather of Scott, Natalie, Taylor, Jessica, William and David. Loving brother of Sam Gaona of New Kensington, PA and Tom Gaona of Ambridge, PA. GATTEN, JOANN JEAN JoAnn Jean McNair Gatten died in Sacramento on Saturday, November 17, 2001. She was born on March 11, 1920 near Goldfield, Nevada. She spent her childhood alternating between Nevada mining towns and Culver City, CA where she graduated from High School. At age 17 she married Fred Gatten. They helped his parents run the Gatten family oil business in and around Carson City, NV. The business was sold in 1955 and they then moved to the Sacramento area where she remained until her death. Her husband died in 1986. JoAnn was also preceded in death by her parents, Blaine McNair and Anna Ruby McNair; and her brother, Robert McNair. She is survived by her daughter, Joann Gail Gatten; her son, Charles Blaine Gatten, and daughter-in-law Judy Bittick Gatten; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson. She is also survived by one sister-in-law; one niece; two nephews; and their families. At her request there will be no funeral or graveside service. She will be buried at the Roseville Cemetery as are her mother, father and brother. She was a cherished member of our family and a wonderful lady. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

GILKISON, JAMES L. III ATTORNEY AT LAW Passed away suddenly at home on November 17, 2001. He was the son of James L. Gilkison, Jr. and Joan L. (Saville) Gilkison. Mr. Gilkison graduated from UOP/McGeorge School of Law with a Juris Doctor Degree and from Grand Valley University, Michigan, with a BS in Philosophy. Mr. Gilkison also spent time in the Peace Corps. He enjoyed traveling, writing and art. James is survived by his mother, Joan L. Gilkison of Daytona Beach, FL, his aunt Nancy of  Texas, his longtime companion of 15 years, Tim Carroll of Sacramento, his brother David and wife Ginny of Key West, FL, his brother Brian and wife Sonya of Guam and his nephew Tim Gilkison. Memorial services will be held at Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd., Roseville, CA at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 23rd. GOEREND, FREDERICK PAUL In this city November 15, 2001. Loving husband of Yolanda D. Goerend. Loved father of Little Freddie. Loving son of Fridolin and Rose Mary Goerend. Loved brother of Sadie Lorta (husband Ruben), Betty Refuerzo (husband Dave), Phillip J. Valdez and Susan Goerend Odbert. Though he didn't have much he still gave a friendly smile, that special burrito or spare change for the kids. HEIDRICK, EMMETT ELLIOTT Passed away on Monday, November 19, 2001, in his Woodland home, at the age of 78. He was born on May 28, 1923 in the "old" Woodland Hospital, to Andrew and Wildah (Harrison) Heidrick, who predeceased him and who had been part of the original pioneering families of the Sacramento Valley, coming to Woodland in the 1850's. Mr. Heidrick was extremely active in agricultural and community activities in the Yolo county area where he lived his entire life. A life Member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, Lodge #1299 of Woodland, he also served as a Plainfield School Board Member from 1955-1968, and was the Representative and Director of the Yolo ASCS Committee for 12 years, a Director of the Calif Beet Grower's Association District 4 for 12 years, a member of Woodland's Carlton Club and a long time member of the Yolo Tale-Enders RV group. He especially enjoyed traveling all over the North American continent with his wife in their RV, including such destinations as Alaska, Canada and Mexico. Mr. Heidrick is survived by his wife of 54 years and 4 months - "till the day," Mildred (Moseley) Heidrick; his sons, David Heidrick, Jim Heidrick and wife Terry all of Woodland; and his daughters, Diane H. Good of Ventura and Karen L. Heidrick of Chula Vista. Surviving also are his grandchildren, Jeremy Heidrick and wife Julie, Mark Heidrick and wife Crystal, and Todd Heidrick, all of Colusa; Michelle and Jedd Ward, Katherine and Neal Abele, Kelly and James Reed, and Jennifer Heidrick all of Woodland; Adam and Christina Good of Santa Clarita, David Good of Chico and Jimmy Good of Ventura. Great-grandchildren surviving include Jimmy and Owen Ward and Ryan and Rebecca Reed of Woodland and Dylan and Nicholas Heidrick of Colusa. A brother Fred C. Heidrick and sister, Vera Gorman also survive him as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceasing him also is his brother, Joe Heidrick, a twin sister, Louise Farnham, Ethel Oeste and his parents-in-law, Edna and Howard Moseley. No visitation is scheduled prior to services. A funeral service will be held at the United Methodist Church, 212 Second St., Woodland, at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2001, with Pastor Doug  Johnson officiating. Interment to follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22, Woodland, CA, where rites will be presided over by the Elks Lodge of Woodland. HOWARD,  Jackson LEWIS Born July 25, 2001 our precious angel boy left us on November 15, 2001 to go and be with our Lord.  Jackson is survived by his mother, Charma; father, James; brothers, Jason and Jesse; sister, Larissa; Grandpa Jim and Grandma Dorothy; Grandpa Lewis and Grandma Betty; as well as Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and many loving friends. HUSTED, ROBERT FREDERICK Feb. 25, 1916 - Aug. 8, 2001 HUSTED, MARY LOUISE May 24, 1916 - Nov. 5, 2001 Married 61 years, Bob and Mary are together again. At 85, they passed away peacefully, just as they lived. Services in their Memory at Sacred Heart Church are private. Bob was born in Greenville,  Pennsylvania and grew up in Conneaut, Ohio on Lake Erie. He attended Case Western Reserve University and graduated from Ohio State University in 1937. He was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity and a lifelong Buckeye fan. Bob married Mary Louise Schneider on June 8, 1940. He served as a naval officer during World War II, participated in the June 6, 1944 D-Day landing in Normandy, and retired as a U.S. Naval Commander. Bob was a Human Resources Director in Ohio for over 35 years, until he retired from St. Regis Paper Company and moved to California in 1981. Mary was born in Newark, Ohio, the third of nine children. In her life she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked as a nurse for over 20 years, retiring and moving to Sacramento in 1981. Bob and Mary are survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and James Scanlon; grandsons, Graham and Colin Scanlon; a son, Philip Husted; and numerous siblings, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

In The Unconditional Loving Memory Of CHERYL ANN HUSSONG On her journey to peace, and everlasting happiness went home to the Lord Nov. 6, 2001. Born Nov. 4, 1959, in Redwood City, CA. JOHNSON, RUTH Passed away November 15, 2001 at the age of 91. She is survived by her daughter, Kay and son in law, Jim Morandi. LAN, GILBERT In Sacramento on November 16, 2001, aged 71 years. A native of Stockton, CA and a resident of the Sacramento area for 30 years. Mr. Lan retired after 30 years as a supervising auditor for The State of California Controller's Office. She is survived by her loving and primary caregiving husband, Peter; daughter, Lasha Patricia Allen; son, Myron Theodore Prychun (and wife Jaylene); granddaughters, Jodi Kathleen Prychun and Stacie Lynn Prychun; sisters, Betty MacHugo of Chicago and Marie Werbicki of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. SARTOR, JULIO Born Nov. 28, 1913 in Frood Mines, Canada. Passed away peacefully at his home in Sacramento on Nov. 17, 2001. Julio is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie, son Stan (Jan), daughter Nancy, granddaughter Alexandra, and several nieces and nephews. He retired in 1976 from the position of Chief of the Administrative Services to the Director of Maintenance, McClellan AFB, after more than 36 years of service as a civilian employee of the Air Force. SCHIFFNER, LELAND Passed away November 19, 2001. He leaves 2 sons, Leland H. of Sacramento and Richard P. of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Leland was preceded in death by his son Ronald of Sacramento. SHEPARD, LOVELLA ROSEVELTINA In Placerville, November 12, 2001, she left this life peacefully for another. Born June 11, 1905 in Denver, CO, she fully participated in 96 years of life, experiencing and witnessing many changes that she shared with her family. Known as Lovey to her family and friends, she is survived by her son John T. Shepard III, her sister Wanda Stone, her niece Mona Miller, her grandchildren, Shelley Shepard, Rockwood Shepard, Gregory Shepard, Holly Salters, Hilary Shepard, great grandchildren, Erin Kimsey, Cody Shepard, Lara Shepard, Jill Shepard, Ianthe Shepard-Monson, Chloe Shepard-Monson, Zoe Shepard-Monson, Ben Salters, Scarlett Loretta Shepard, her 2 great nieces Heather Miller and Kelly Moulias, along with many other family and friends who have all shared her many stories and knowledge of her spirit. She graduated from Mrs. Porter's Finishing School in Long Beach, attended U.S.C. and played harp with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Lovey married her husband, John T. Shepard II, of Long Beach, in 1924 to begin a life of travel and adventure. She was active in many organizations: Cub and Boy Scouts, the P.T.A., the Tuesday Club, Daughters of the Nile, Eastern Star, the Red Cross and Junior Museum. Excellent at fishing, she also belonged to the Tyee Club of British Columbia, Pacific Coast Club, and the Marlin Club of Mexico. She was also an avid reader and great seamstress. Her family requests that any remembrances in her honor be given to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, or a charity of choice. Her spirit will not be forgotten. Her entire family acknowledges all who were part of her life. 1905-2001

SLABAUGH, COLLEEN NEVA Born in Sacramento on December 19, 1926 to Manuel and Charlotte (Babcock) Castro. Died in Reno, NV on November 17, 2001 at the age of 74 years. A graduate of Sacramento High School, she entered the nursing program at Sacramento Junior College, graduating as an RN in 1946. Specializing in surgical and maternity care, she was active in all types of care including hospital, industrial, and convalescent care. Colleen was the devoted and beloved wife of Thomas Slabaugh for 40 years. She is survived by her children, Norene Rouse and Dennis Diede, Thomas and Karen Slabaugh, and Robert and Joan Slabaugh, all from Elk Grove. She is also survived by her sister, Louella Ungstad and niece Charlene Ungstad of Sacramento; step-son Richard and Wendy Slabaugh of Sacramento. Adored by grandchildren Melissa, Shannon, Thomas, and Catherine Slabaugh of Elk Grove and Harrison Slabaugh of Sacramento. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 7595 Center Parkway, Sacramento. STRONG, JOSEPHINE S. Of Sacramento, passed on October 22, 2001. A native of Provo, Utah, age 91 years.. Josephine was the wife of the late Waldo Jensen Strong, and beloved Mother of Jerilynn S. Clinger of Sacramnento, and Susan S. Boyer of Idaho Falls, ID. Mother-in-law of Richard Clinger and Wayne F. Boyer. Grandmother of Christian (wife Suzanne) Clinger; Melody Clinger, Kimberly (husband Darin) Boyer Underwood, Kelli (husband Brandon) Boyer Lewis, Jennifer Boyer, Stephen (wife Ashley) Boyer, Jeffrey (wife Holly) Boyer and Jillian Boyer. Great grandmother of Kylie, Betisox, and Preston Lewis, Davis, Miranda, Hayden and Dayton Underwood; Christian, Matthew, and William. Clinger. Sister of Clifford Sowards, Beulah Bucher, Jewell Bybee, and the late W.A. Sowards, Beatrice Skinner, Ethelyn Young, Myrtle DeHart. Josephine resided in Sacramento for 66 years, and taught first grade at Riverside Elementary School from 1954 to 1976. She was rewarded and praised for her excellence and creativity in teaching, and was loved by all her students. Josephine served in the community and in many leadership positions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day- Saints. For many years Josephine and Waldo assisted with Galena Street East. California's young performing ambassadors. Memorial services were field October 27th in Provo UT. Internment East Lawn, Provo, UT.

TAYLOR, BARBARA McGUIRE In Sacramento on November 16th, 2001. Beloved wife of the late David H. Taylor. Children by marriage; Carroll Clark, David Taylor, Ruth Valentine. Sister of Connie Rapier. Loving aunt of John McGuire, Michael McGuire, Mark Dubois, Gary Dubois and Lorraine Crane. Cousin to Betty Hoffman, Katie Menke, Fred Linder, Robert Fischer and Joe Fischer. Also survived by special friends, Erlene Hampton and Max Murphy, as well as many Relatives & Friends. A native Sacramentan, aged 73 years. A member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, also she was a volunteer at Wellspring Womens Center & Los Ninos Service League. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1066 26th Street, in Sacramento on Friday, November 30th, 2001 at 10AM. Private Inurnment, St. Mary's Cemetery. Remembrances in her name may be made to Wellspring Womens Center, 3414 4th Ave, Sacramento, CA 95817, or Sutter Hospice, 2800 L Street, Sacramento, CA 95816. W.F.
