ROMINGER, IRENE MARTHA Irene M. (Stuhlmuller) Rominger, 81, died Nov. 18, 2001, in Woodland. Services are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 625 W. Gibson Road, Woodland. Mrs. Rominger was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Lodi to Robert and Martha (Nusz) Stuhlmuller. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1938. Mrs. Rominger was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Harley, in 1979. Mrs. Rominger is survived by her daughters, Darlene Langston and Kay Huff; grandchildren Annette Langston, Ryan and Tyler Huff; and sister Nadine Salonites. STRONG, JOSEPHINE S. Of Sacramento, passed on October 22, 2001. A native of Provo, Utah, age 91 years.. Josephine was the wife of the late Waldo Jensen Strong, and beloved Mother of Jerilynn S. Clinger of Sacramnento, and Susan S. Boyer of Idaho Falls, ID. Mother-in-law of Richard Clinger and Wayne F. Boyer. Grandmother of Christian (wife Suzanne) Clinger; Melody Clinger, Kimberly (husband Darin) Boyer Uinderwood, Kelli (husband Brandon) Boyer Lewis, Jennifer Boyer, Stephen (wife Ashley) Boyer, Jeffrey (wife Holly) Boyer and Jillian Boyer. Great grandmother of Kylie, Betisox, and Preston Lewis, Davis, Miranda, Hayden and Dayton Underwood; Christian, Matthew, and William. Clinger. Sister of Clifford Sowards, Beulah Bucher, Jewell Bybee, and the late W.A. Sowards, Beatrice Skinner, Ethelyn Young, Myrtle DeHart. Josephine resided in Sacramento for 66 years, and taught first grade at Riverside Elementary School from 1954 to 1976. She was rewarded and praised for her excellence and creativity in teaching, and was loved by all her students. Josephine served in the community and in many leadership positions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day- Saints. For many years Josephine and Waldo assisted with Galena Street East. California's young performing ambassadors. Memorial services were field October 27th in Provo UT. Internment East Lawn, Provo, UT.

SURVILL, VIOLA "Where Charity and Love are found God is there." Beloved mother and passionate friend to all who knew her, Viola will be deeply missed by those who were touched by her giving nature. Throughout her 95 years of life, Viola embodied the virtue of charity. Her zest for life, keen sense of humor and contemporary wisdom drew admiration, respect and joy from all who were touched by her. Born September 27, 1906 in Chicago, Illinois to Anna Aimone and Achille Abele Piccinelli, Viola passed away November 8, 2001 in Sacramento. Preceded in death by her loving husband Anthony Survill and beloved daughters, Gloria and Aileen Patti. Sadly missed by daughters Joan Morris of Sacramento, Yvonne Baird of Olympia,  Washington, and sons in-law Leo Morris and Harry Baird. Mimi, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, left a legacy of cherished memories for her grandchildren, Greg Sypnicki, Pam Smith, David Morris, Diane Morris-Bento, Cydney Hansen, Matthew Walbeck, several great-grandchildren and sisters Yolanda Luney and Iris Hamilton. Preceded in death by sisters Eleanor Embick, Norma Piccinelli and Clifford Piccinelli. A woman of literary distinction, she won several scholastic writing contests and documented her life history at the age of 90. She worked for the Sacramento City School District for many years and retired as registrar for Hiram  Johnson High School in 1968. An avid traveler, in 1964 Viola was invited by Mayor Antoinio J. Villegas of Manila as a representative to our sister city in the Philippines. She was a loyal member of The Polish American Club and enjoyed being an active participant and promoter of The Sacramento Camellia Festival. She was involved with the Jerichos, a Catholic Charity organization linked with Sacred Heart Parish Church that focused on the special needs of community outreach. For several years she hosted Japanese students in her home via a University summer exchange program through CSUS. An East Sacramento resident for five decades, Viola loved her home, neighbors, opera, literature, bridge, travel, friends and fun. For Mimi, her family was everything; for us, her generosity of love and life are inspiring. Now she rests with other loved ones at home in heaven - a casa a casa a casa. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, November 24, at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, 39th and "J" Street. VIERRA, JOYCE LEONA Born October 28, 1926 in Border  Texas. Passed away November 20, 2001 of a massive heart attack at UC Davis Sacramento at age 75. Joyce was a very important part of the family farming business and she was also involved in banking and Real Estate. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maxwell and Friends of the Rodeo. One of her favorite hobbies was surfing the net and e-mailing family and friends. Survived by husband of 57 years Frank Vierra of Maxwell, daughters Sandra Vierra Sutton of Seal Beach, CA, Bonnie JoAnn Harmel of Aurora, CO, Fran Vierra Mahon of Yuba City, CA. Sisters Mable Carter of Sacramento, Jean Mitchell of Sacramento, Peggy Morford of Placerville, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Visitations will be held Sunday, November 25th from 5:00-8:00p.m. at the McNary-Moore Chapel 107 5th Street, Colusa. A Rosary and Mass are to be at 10:00a.m., Monday, November 26th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maxwell with burial to follow at the Maxwell Cemetery. ANDERSON, BETTY LOU Died Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at Sutter Amador Hospital in  Jackson at the age of 79 years. She was born May 29, 1922 in Charleston, Illinois. She married Harold Kenneth Anderson on December 13, 1941 in Minden, Nevada. Mrs. Anderson lived in Amador County for 23 years and was a member of the North Highlands Garden Club for many years. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harold Anderson of Jackson; sons Thomas K. Anderson of Sacramento, Larry C. Anderson of Elverta, James H. Anderson of Galt; daughters Lynette Munroe of Sacramento, Sheryl Barghoorn of Sutter Creek; Grandmother of 11. There will be no services at the family's request. BALDWIN, LYSTON CARR 1915-2001 Lyston Carr "Jim" Baldwin, 86, died Monday, November 19, 2001. He was born in Ashland, Oregon, on November 7, 1915. The first child of four, he was raised in Arcata, California. In the early 1940's he moved to Placerville, California where he married Mary Ella Blair and had one son, Gordon Matthew and one daughter, Rebecca Ann. He attended Humbolt State College and the Montana School of Mines, earning a degree in engineering. For 23 years, beginning in 1955 to 1978, Lyston served as Operations Supervisor of Engineering and District Treasurer at the El Dorado Irrigation District. In 1975 he served as President of the Sacramento Area Water Works Association. For 50 years he was a member of the Masons El Dorado Lodge #26 F&AM. Lyston was active in coordinating yearly reunions for his class at Humbolt State College, and was a member of SIR Sons In Retirement, Branch 29. Lyston and Mary spent much of their later years traveling throughout the world. He was an avid reader and an expert historian. Some of his greatest pleasures came with the gatherings of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Carr Baldwin, from Korbel, CA. and Mary Elizabeth Foster, from Arcata, CA; and three sisters, Thals Jeffers, Carmen Jamison, and Gaelyn Leeman, and granddaughter Lauren Baldwin. He is survived by an Aunt, Jean Baldwin Bean, of San Mateo, CA; a sister-in-law, Louise Blair Simpson of Arcadia, CA; a son, Dr. Gordon Baldwin (and daughter-in-law, Chardelle) of Roseville, CA; a daughter Rebecca Ann Henderson (and son-in-law, Dr. Richard Henderson) of Dayton, OH; grandsons, Matthew Blair Baldwin of Davis, CA, Christopher Alan Henderson (and granddaughter-in-law Tania) of Pleasanton, CA, Kevin Kyle Henderson (and granddaughter-in-law Kimmy and great granddaughter Ani) of Nairobi, Kenya, and Carter Blair Henderson of Sacramento, CA; and granddaughter, Erika Lana Henderson of Davis, CA. Services will be held at a later date.

CAMPOS, FRANCES E. In Sacramento on November 19, 2001 at the age of 68 years. Loving wife of James Campos of Auburn. Beloved mother of Valerie Campos-Vagg and her husband Rick of Arbuckle, Alice A. Campos-Ayala of Arbuckle and James A. Campos of Roseville. Cherished grandmother of Cody and Austin. Loving sister of Florence Higday of Carmichael and Audrey Kiley of New Jersey. Beloved sister-in-law of Angelo Campos of Sacramento and Chris Campos of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her mother Alice Baker (formerly of the Alice Baker School of Music). DOMINGUEZ, LIWANAG JAVIER In Sacramento on November 18, 2001 at Kaiser Hospital. She went to her final home after 86 years of a very good life. A native of the Philippines, a resident of Sacramento for 18 years. She was a homemaker for over 60 years. A woman of wisdom, grace and simplicity she will be remembered by all of us and will stay forever in our hearts. Loving mother of Fely Salgado, Eleanor Machado and Emmanuel Dominguez all of Sacramento, Elmerita Vda De Pilapil of Canada, Herminia Libid of the Philippines, Delilah Guy of Canada and Antonio Dominguez of Maine. FONG, WING KING Born on November 3, 1916 in Sacramento, California. He was 85 years old and went home to be with the Lord on November 18, 2001. He passed away after battling complications from diabetes and kidney failure. He was married for 53 years to Jeanette Fong, who preceded him in death this summer. He is survived by his siblings: Florence Wong, Wing Yick Fong (Moy Jeang), Wing Gong Fong (Dorothy), Wing Sing Fong (Nancy) and Wing Tone Fong (Ruby). He is also survived by his four children: Albert Fong, Evelyn Lee (Alvin), Iris Gan (Les), and Valerie Wong (Ryan); his five grandchildren: Kelsey Wong, Meredith Lee, Gregory Gan, Adam Wong, and Olivia Gan. Wing King is a WWII Veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943-46. Upon discharge from the service, he initially worked in restaurant and grocery store businesses until he secured an electronics technician position at the Sacramento Army Depot, retiring after 35 years of service. He enjoyed jigsaw and word puzzles, photography and travel, but his love for reading compelled him to make regular trips to the local library with his wife and grandchildren. The enduring legacy he leaves is the value of family love, unity, and support. His testimony of faith in the Lord is a message of hope he embraced as equally important. Wake will be Saturday, November 24, 6-7 PM. Service will be held on Sunday, November 25, 1:00 PM at Nauman's Funeral Chapel 4041 Freeport Blvd. Memorial donations may be made to E.K. McClatchy Library or to the American Heart Association.

GATTEN, JOANN JEAN JoAnn Jean McNair Gatten died in Sacramento on Saturday, November 17, 2001. She was born on March 11, 1920 near Goldfield, Nevada. She spent her childhood alternating between Nevada mining towns and Culver City, CA where she graduated from High School. At age 17 she married Fred Gatten. They helped his parents run the Gatten family oil business in and around Carson City, NV. The business was sold in 1955 and they then moved to the Sacramento area where she remained until her death. Her husband died in 1986. JoAnn was also preceded in death by her parents, Blaine McNair and Anna Ruby McNair; and her brother, Robert McNair. She is survived by her daughter, Joann Gail Gatten; her son, Charles Blaine Gatten, and daughter-in-law Judy Bittick Gatten; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson. She is also survived by one sister-in-law; one niece; two nephews; and their families. At her request there will be no funeral or graveside service. She will be buried at the Roseville Cemetery as are her mother, father and brother. She was a cherished member of our family and a wonderful lady. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

GRAY, LEO J. Of Gold River, November 20, 2001, a native of Nebraska, age 80 years. Husband of Helen Gray. Father of Francis (Patty), Kevin (Lynn), Stephen and Brian (Noe) Gray and Kathy (Alex) Simas. Grandfather of Jennifer, Kyle, Sara, Jeffrey, Gavin, Brian, Erin and Devin. Great Grandfather of Morgan. Brother of Jerry Gray, Margaret Hasenpflug and Leona Steffeck. Member of Mr. & Mrs. Club, SIRS Branch 67, former President, Coach and Umpire of Mission Little League and Scoutmaster with Boy Scouts. Retired after 35 years with Merck, Inc. Army veteran of WWII. HANDY, ELIZABETH (BETTY) Born Aug. 15, 1933 in Newberry Port, Mass. Returned to her heavenly home Nov. 18 after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 28 yrs, Edward P. Handy; sons, James M. Benson, Bert Benson, & John Semon; daughter Martha Benson; beloved sister, Eva Graffam; 3 dear brothers; nieces, Judy and Debbie; 15 grandchildren; & many others Please remember her with a smile. IKEGAMI, KEITH G. Peacefully passed away November 20, 2001 at the age of 57, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Devoted husband of Madge Ikegami. Loving father of Kimberly Jaffe, Rob and Brian Ikegami. Adoring grandfather of Brittany, Chad, and Chase Jaffe. Beloved son of Kae Ikegami. Cherished brother of Barbara Ikegami, Sheila Fukuoka, Linda Ikegami, and Lisa Wong. Keith worked in the heart cath lab at Mercy General for 19 years, and spent the last 8 years in Medical Sales. A devoted Christian, he was a great supporter of the Wilton Bible Church and Christian School for their efforts to spread God's message. His strong faith in God helped him through his illness, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Lan retired after 30 years as a supervising auditor for The State of California Controller's Office. Annie was born August 13, 1907 in Salida, CA. She was 94. She worked in the Richmond shipyard during World War II but her best loved profession was a Homemaker & Mother & Grandmother and Greatgrandmother. POWLES, ANN T. In Roseville on November 17, 2001. Beloved wife of the late Charles H. Powles; Loving mother of Garry Powles, Charles Powles, and Tammy Wildberger; Loved grandmother of 7 and great-grandmother of 8; Dearest sister of Adeline Nekuda, Helen Szertwitis, and Lillian Benes. She was native of Nebraska and had been a longtime resident of Lincoln, CA. She was also a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church of Carmichael. She was 77 years of age. QUEVER, LEONARD JOSEPH Born in Chicago, IL. on Aug. 17,1917, entered into rest on Nov. 17, 2001. Proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army in WWII & the Korean War. Survived by his loving wife, Ardell Quever; four sons; two step-sons; seven grandchildren & eight great- grandchildren Family & friends are welcome to attend the service on Nov. 26, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Church in Elk Grove. SCHIFFNER, LELAND Passed away November 19, 2001. He leaves 2 sons, Leland H. of Sacramento and Richard P. of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Leland was preceded in death by his son Ronald of Sacramento. SLABAUGH, COLLEEN NEVA Born in Sacramento on December 19, 1926 to Manuel and Charlotte (Babcock) Castro. Died in Reno, NV on November 17, 2001 at the age of 74 years. A graduate of Sacramento High School, she entered the nursing program at Sacramento Junior College, graduating as an RN in 1946. Specializing in surgical and maternity care, she was active in all types of care including hospital, industrial, and convalescent care. Colleen was the devoted and beloved wife of Thomas Slabaugh for 40 years. She is survived by her children, Norene Rouse and Dennis Diede, Thomas and Karen Slabaugh, and Robert and Joan Slabaugh, all from Elk Grove. She is also survived by her sister, Louella Ungstad and niece Charlene Ungstad of Sacramento; step-son Richard and Wendy Slabaugh of Sacramento. Adored by grandchildren Melissa, Shannon, Thomas, and Catherine Slabaugh of Elk Grove and Harrison Slabaugh of Sacramento. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 7595 Center Parkway, Sacramento. The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Sacramento Area Law Enforcement Chaplaincy.

STRAWSER, PAUL DEE Beloved husband, father, brother and son passed away November 16, 2001 in Sacramento. He will be missed by his family and many friends. A Memorial will be held Friday, Nov 24, from 1-3pm at O'Malley's 1109 2nd St. Old Town Sacramento.

SURVILL, VIOLA "Where Charity and Love are found God is there." Beloved mother and passionate friend to all who knew her, Viola will be deeply missed by those who were touched by her giving nature. Throughout her 95 years of life, Viola embodied the virtue of charity. Her zest for life, keen sense of humor and contemporary wisdom drew admiration, respect and joy from all who were touched by her. Born September 27, 1906 in Chicago, Illinois to Anna Aimone and Achille Abele Piccinelli, Viola passed away November 8, 2001 in Sacramento. Preceded in death by her loving husband Anthony Survill and beloved daughters, Gloria and Aileen Patti. Sadly missed by daughters Joan Morris of Sacramento, Yvonne Baird of Olympia,  Washington, and sons in-law Leo Morris and Harry Baird. Mimi, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, left a legacy of cherished memories for her grandchildren, Greg Sypnicki, Pam Smith, David Morris, Diane Morris-Bento, Cydney Hansen, Matthew Walbeck, several great-grandchildren and sisters Yolanda Luney and Iris Hamilton. Preceded in death by sisters Eleanor Embick, Norma Piccinelli and Clifford Piccinelli. A woman of literary distinction, she won several scholastic writing contests and documented her life history at the age of 90. She worked for the Sacramento City School District for many years and retired as registrar for Hiram  Johnson High School in 1968. An avid traveler, in 1964 Viola was invited by Mayor Antoinio J. Villegas of Manila as a representative to our sister city in the Philippines. She was a loyal member of The Polish American Club and enjoyed being an active participant and promoter of The Sacramento Camellia Festival. She was involved with the Jerichos, a Catholic Charity organization linked with Sacred Heart Parish Church that focused on the special needs of community outreach. For several years she hosted Japanese students in her home via a University summer exchange program through CSUS. An East Sacramento resident for five decades, Viola loved her home, neighbors, opera, literature, bridge, travel, friends and fun. For Mimi, her family was everything; for us, her generosity of love and life are inspiring. Now she rests with other loved ones at home in heaven - a casa a casa a casa. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, November 24, at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, 39th and "J" Street. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to: Anthony Survill Memorial Library, Polish American Club, 327 Main Street Roseville, California, 95678 or a Charity of your choice.
