Beloved husband of Ardes Lee Brewster and loving father to Helen Ashe of San Francisco, CA, Howard Kenneth Brewster of Arlington, WA, Rebecca Renfroo of Sacramento, CA, Stanley Brewster of Sacramento, CA, and Thomas Brewster of Fairfield, CA. Survived by sister, Helene Chamberlain of Sacramento, CA. Grandfather of 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Resident of Sacramento, CA for 53 years. He was a Mason for 50 years. Member of Bicentennial Daylight Lodge #830 F.&A.M. Past president of the Native Sons of The Golden West (Vallejo). Retired from SMUD after 31 years. Member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and past council member of the International Order of Job's Daughters. Mom helped create a local day care center for low income mothers in Las Cruces, NM, & was a tutor for the Laubach Literacy Program. DUNKLEY, EILEEN MACFARLANE Age 92, passed away on November 16th, 2001. Born in Glengary County, Ontario Canada in 1909, she attended school in Ottawa and Cornwall, Ontario and also Montreal, Quebec. She taught school at Stratheona Academy in Outrema, Quebec. She married Herbert Charles Dunkley in 1935 and moved to Pittsfield, MA in 1937. In 1947, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she was active in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. While in Minneapolis, she served as President of the Women's Club, was a member of the California Symphony League, served as President of the Camellia Symphony Guild, and also on the altar guild of both St. Michael's Church in Fair Oaks, and Trinity Episcopal Church in Folsom. Eileen was listed in "Who's Who of American Women" for 1972-1973. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, daughter Patricia, and granddaughters Kathryn and Joy. She is survived by her brothers Gordon (Irene), George (Barbara), a son Gordon (Mardi), a granddaughter Margaret (David) and three great granddaughters, Allison, Meredith and Brooke. A Memorial Service for Eileen Dunkley will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Folsom on Saturday, December 1st at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. ELDRED, EDWARD B. Passed away Oct. 30, 2001 in Ft. Bragg, CA. after a long illness, at the age of 86. Born in Auburn, NY, Sept. 6, 1915 to John and Agnes Eldred. Beloved husband of Nettie Nicolai Eldred of Ft. Bragg, former resident of Sacramento and the Sea Ranch. Brother of Margaret Francell of Santa Barbara, Step father of Norman and his wife Cathy of Guinda and Ft. Bragg and Susan Gunter of Sacramento. Step grandfather of Christine Jacobs and her husband Roger of North Highlands, Willie and Erik Gunter of Sacramento, Jeremy and Melisa Domann of Guinda, Step Great grandfather of Taylor and Skyler Jacobs. He was a veteran of WW II and served in the 8th. Air Force in North Africa, Belgium, England, Italy, Germany and retired as a Master Sargent in 1975. Worked as a civilian at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio and McClellan AFB in Sacramento. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, 50 year member of Oak Plains Lodge #789 F&AM, Ben Ali Temple, Nobles of Mystic Shrine, Legion of Honor, Veteran of Shrine Patrol, Scottish Rite of Free Masonary, Beehive Court 117, Order of the Amaranth, all of Sacramento Chapter 111. FERREIRA, ANGELIQUE THELMA Was born January 14, 1923 in Hilo, Hawaii. She peacefully passed away on November 21, 2001 here in Sacramento, CA at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her husband Mel K. Ferreira. She is survived by her children, Donald K. Ferreira and Yoland J. Van Kempen and their families. She was the eldest of five sisters and seven brothers, grandmother of three and great-grandmother of two. FIELD, THOMAS MICHAEL Sr. Born on October 4, 1922 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Passed away peacefully in his home in Carmichael on November 26, 2001. Served with the Army Corp of Engineers in WWII from 1942-1946. Graduated from UC Berkeley with a Degree in Civil Engineering. A career employee with Caltrans for the State of California, Bridge Department until 1987. Survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Dorothy. Loving father of Thomas Jr., Karen, James, Colleen, and Kathleen. His greatest enjoyment were his grandchildren, Mark, Andrew, Nathan, and Steven Brown, Collin and Justin Field, Alison and Brendon Wessel, Matthew and Melissa Field, and great-grandchildren Taylor and Jasmine. GARCIA, CARLOS, JR. (aka Charlie) Passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 23, 2001 at the young age of 51. He is survived by his Best Friend and Partner Veronica, his loving children Becky, Joshua, and Autumn. GLACKEN, IRENE BACHEBA Born July 18, 1913 in Bloomington, IL; passed away November 20, 2001 in Cathlamet, WA at the age of 88. Previously resided in Sacramento, from 1948 until 1996, and Astoria, OR from 1996 until this year. Married Leslie Glacken, June 9, 1942. She worked in the cannery of Campbell Soup Co. in Sacramento for 30 years before retiring in 1978. She enjoyed embroidering and liked her work, and raising six children. She is survived by her sons Everett C. Glacken of Elk Grove and Johnnie Housiaux of Sacramento; daughters Eva Mae McClintock of Pollock Pines, Dixie Swart of Cathlamet, WA, Rose Schilling of Albany, OR, and Molly Housiaux of Elk Grove; brother David Sheets of Raymond, NE; sister Juanita Mott of Ft. Bragg; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Leslie Glacken in 1973, and her sisters Violet and Goldie. HARRIS, CHARLES M. in Sacramento, November 23, 2001. Husband of the late Verona Harris. Father of Charles D. A native of Cache Creek, Alaska, aged 85 years. A graduate from the Mackey School of Mining at University of Nevada, Reno with 2 Degrees in Civil and Mining Engineering. From 1947 to 1957 he worked for the U. S. Government in Europe and South America as an advisor to the governments of Greece and Brazil in Land Reclamation, Hydroelectric and Mining Projects. He worked as a Civil Engineer for 37 years & retired from the State of California Department of Water Resources in 1982. HOEPER, RALPH ELMER Born July 19, 1924 in Butcher Ranch, CA; passed away November 26, 2001 in Auburn, CA at the age of 77. He was a life long resident of Placer County. He grew up in Foresthill, CA. Attended school in the area, was a Placer High School graduate (class of 1942). Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy as a Radio Tech. on board the USS Red Fin submarine and served in the Pacific theater during WWII. After the war he returned to the Auburn area to continue his education. He graduated from Placer Jr. College in 1948 and University of Nevada - Reno in 1951 with his degree in Electrical Engineering. He became the owner of Foresthill Telephone Company in 1950 before completing college. He was the owner/operator of the Foresthill Telephone Co for over 51 years. He was a member of the Eureka Lodge #16 F&AM, Delta Chapter #27 of The Royal Arch Masons, Auburn Commandry #15, Knights of Templor, Ben Ali Shrine Temple, Placer Shrine Club, Navy League of Auburn, Foresthill V.P.W. and American Legion Post 587. He was a member and past president of the Foresthill Lions Club, Foresthill Chamber of Commerce, retired director of the Roseville Telephone Co., founding member of the Foresthill Safety Club, past president of the California Telephone Association and the Foresthill Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by his wife Rose of Foresthill; sons, Andy Oyer of Applegate and Rodney Oyer of Foresthill; daughter Roanne Nelson of Foresthill; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 1 nephew. HOLMES, MARGARET "MARTY" Passed away peacefully, on November 24, 2001 in Sacramento, CA. She was 71 years old. Born on May 5, 1930 in Ohio. Marty lived in Sacramento County for 38 years, and was a homemaker. Marty enjoyed shopping, music, Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton and her favorite color was pink. Marty loved to spend time with her family, especially her great grandson Camryn. Marty will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by her loving husband Charles Holmes of Sacramento, CA, daughter Diedre Johnson of San Andreas, CA, grand-daughters Shelby and Lana Johnson of Sacramento. HOLT, GERTRUD (TESS) Born Feb 1, 1931 in Teplitz, Czechoslovakia, died November 24, 2001 after a long illness with Parkinson's Disease. Survived by husband, Robert, sons Michael, Randy, Glen and daughter, Kim, and eight grandchildren. She was active in social and singing groups. Loving wife of 48 years and devoted mother for 46 years, she will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. HUENERS, SUSANNE ADAIR (BOARDMAN) Susanne Adair (Boardman) Hueners, 61, of Sacramento, died Wednesday (November 21, 2001) at the Sutter Roseville Hospital. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. She was born May 1, 1940, in Dunsmuir, CA, the daughter of William and Alberta (Harvey) Boardman. On September 4, 1959 in Medford, OR she married Gary Hueners, who survives. They moved to Sacramento in 1960. Survivors, in addition to her husband include a son, Wayne of San Bruno, CA; a daughter, Wendy of Sonoma, CA; and three brothers, Harvey of Denver, CO; Jack of Tigard, OR; and Albert of Reno, NV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1615 Morse Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95864-2666. Cremation is under the direction of the North Sacramento Funeral Home. Sue was a beautiful, loving, kind, thoughtful and magical person. Incredibly caring, she loved people and never gave up on anyone. She added class and light to every room she entered. She was a great friend and a great lover. She was unforgettable, an amazing human being. She will be forever missed.
HULTQUIST, WARREN Our Uncle Warren passed away on Nov. 24, 2001 at home in Sacramento. He was a loving, caring and spiritual man who enjoyed his large circle of family and friends. Warren's love and devotion to Adam, Barbara, Sam and Mari was ever-present. He was born in Massachusetts in 1923, was a graduate of the University of Washington, and received his doctorate from UCLA. Warren was a retired Professor of Geography at CSUS and was a former member on the Board of Trustees at St. Michael's Episcopal Day School. Warren is survived by Adam, Barbara, Sam and Mari Chaccour, Lucy, Robert and Jeanne Hultquist and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Nov. 30th at 3:30 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 2140 Mission Ave, Carmichael. JENSEN, ELLEN L. In Roseville November 24, 2001. She was born September 11, 1944 in Klamath Falls, Oregon and was 57 years of age at the time of her death. She was an Office Secretary for 36 years retiring from the California Highway Patrol this year. She is survived by her dear friends, Nolan Harris of Fair Oaks, Cathy Heasley, Rick Heasley and Keaton Heasley, all of Roseville. Also survived by many other loving friends. KAGAN, WESLEY LOUIS Born February 3,1987. Tragically taken from us on November 23, 2001. His life was short but his legacy will live forever. Wesley was gifted in many ways. His ability to make people laugh was immeasurable. He was loved by all who knew him. He will be missed by his mother Carol Kagan of Fair Oaks; father Gerald Kagan of Orangevale; brothers Andrew, Eric and sister Heather. Loving grandson of Edythe and Irving Kagan of Sacramento. He had many other relatives too numerous to mention, but a very special Grandma named Hedy and Grandpa Ed Murphy of Tucson, AZ that loved Wesley as much as anybody in this world. Also mentioned was his favorite Aunt Chrissy who was there laughing with him non-stop. Wesley, we all love you and will NEVER forget you...You have made us all forget the problems we all face with a new perspective. Services will be announced at a later date. KAKIES, Monica Erna In this city on November 21, 2001 Born Erna Mros in Hamburg, Germany on December 25, 1906. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Hans Max Kakies. Survived by her loving son and companion Franklin John Kakies, her sister Alida Meyer (five years her junior to the day), niece Doris Rabe, nephew Reiner Meyer, and dearest family friends Thelma Weiner and Paul Bonart. Born to a working-class family, she grew up with the new century, raised as a free-thinker and surrounded by the ideas of Froebel and the cooperative movement. Trained as a kindergarten teacher, she later received a scholarship to a small country college where she studied political thought. A member of a small splinter group of the Social Democratic Party, she worked ceaselessly to alert her fellow Germans to the impending disaster of Hitler, and later was active in the underground resistance movement, barely fleeing Germany with her life. As a refugee in Austria, she fled that country the night Shushnigg capitulated to the Nazis, later fleeing Paris as the German army advanced on that city. Escaping through the South of France to Portugal, she came to this country in 1941, where she worked to rescue her (then) fiancee Hans, first from North Africa, then from Cuba. Married in 1942, she helped put her husband (a former social worker) through University where he re-earned his PhD in Psychology, after which the family moved to California where he worked for the Cal. State Youth Authority. When her husband died in 1957 (at the age of 50), she opened a small, highly respected private nursery school. In later years, she was proud to relate that her pupils included the children of legislators, a former governor, and a newspaper publisher, as well as of middle- and working- class families who were passionate about getting their children "off to a good start". In spite of suffering from life-long bouts of severe depression, she was a plucky and brave human being, whose motto was "Never say never", and who pulled herself up "by her own boot-straps" times beyond count. After a lengthy illness and period of decline, she died in her own home, in her own bed, in the arms of her son and only child. Although by no means a saint, she was a wonderful and remarkable woman, a passionate believer in the essential goodness and nobility of man, and in the optimism of hope. In remembrance, her friends are requested to listen to a country dance by Mozart and perhaps some Schubert lieder, and remember the woman who read Goethe in the original German, loved vacations by the sea, and was such a warm-hearted and loving friend, gracing our presence for almost 95 years. A memorial service under the Christmas tree, will be announced at a later date. Interment will be at the Golden Gate National Cemetery
next to her husband and dearest friend.
