Laura Johanna Hargis

Private funeral services will be held in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery for Laura Johanna Hargis, 73, of Fairfield.

Born May 10, 1924, in Burlingame, Mrs. Hargis died Saturday in Fairfield.

She was a homemaker all of her adult life. She was active in the PTA, Girl and Boy Scouts and Little League baseball in Vacaville and Fairfield. She enjoyed camping and being with family.

She is survived by her sons, Lloyd of Roy, Utah, Robert of Yerington, Nev. and William of Vacaville; daughter, Laura Sherman of Vacaville; sisters, Marin Tyler of Oregon and Vlaudine Whittaker of Vacaville; brother, Henry Jeppesen of Oregon; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Jose Borges Malta

A Mass of the Resurrection for Jose Borges Malta, 84, of Walnut Creek will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. The Rev. Christopher Berbena will preside. Entombment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.

Born May 19, 1913, in Ilhavo, Portugal, Mr. Malta died July 18, 1997, at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco.

He was self-employed and owned the Malta Willow Pass Mobile Home Park, and many other businesses.

He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the Luso American Fraternal Federation, Luso American Life Insurance Society, Luso American Education Foundation Honour, U.P.E.C., APPUMEC, IDES of Walnut Creek, Grangers of Clayton, and other organizations.

He lived in Walnut Creek the past 50 years.

Mr. Malta is survived by his wife, Antonia deSousa of Walnut Creek; daughters, Clarice of Pleasanton, Joann Malta-Weingard of Oakland, and Manuela Malta-Mendonca of Vacaville; and grandchildren, Andrea, Janine, Joey, Julia, Jonathan, and Patrick.

Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek. Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Contributions may be made to the Luso American Education Foundation, P.O. Box 2967, Dublin 94568.

Arrangements are by Morris Funeral Chapel in St. Helena.

Bao Le Nguyen

Graveside services for Bao Le Nguyen, 24, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Friday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. The Rev. Clair Deuman will preside.

Born June 2, 1973, in Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen died July 20, 1997, in Vacaville. He was an aircraft mechanic for Woodland Aviation; and he was a member of the American Brittany Club.

He moved to the area eight years ago, and he enjoyed training dogs.

He is survived by his mother, Diep Bui of San Jose; foster parents, Dale and Diane Hayes of Vacaville; sisters, Khanh and Camtu, both of San Jose; foster sister, Melissa Hayes of Vacaville; brother, Calvin of San Jose; and foster brother, Shane Hayes of Vacaville.

Arrangements are by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Father William L. Travers

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated in Sacramento on Saturday for Rev. William L. Travers.

Interment was Monday in Fairfield.

Born March 10,1918, in Brooklyn, Father Travers died July 14, 1997, in VacaValley Hospital.

Father Travers lived in the Solano County area since 1978.

Affectionately known as "Father Bill," Father Travers served as an assisting pastor with the Holy Spirit Church and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, both in Fairfield, and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville.

Father Travers served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, serving as chaplain in Vietnam, Germany, England and the United States.

Father Travers was a member of the Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Carmelite Fathers.

He was a people person.

Father Travers is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Welt of Mojave Valley, Ariz.; nephew and his wife, Bernard and Emma Welt of Mojave Valley; and a dear friend, Debbie Hayward-Gault of Vacaville.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Father Bill Travers Fund for Children, c/o Glenmary Sisters, P.O. Box 22264, Owensboro, Ky. 42304 or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2700 Dover Ave., Fairfield, 94533.

Arrangements were handled by McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

Antone Frank Anastasi III

A memorial Mass for Antone Frank Anastasi III, 53, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Church, 301 Walnut St. in Woodland. A vigil service will be 6 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Born Jan. 11, 1944, in San Francisco, Mr. Anastasi died July 21, 1997.

A near lifelong resident of Woodland, Mr. Anastasi moved to Woodland in 1955 when the family's business, Oakland Bean Cleaning and Storage Company, relocated from Oakland to Knight's Landing.

He worked for the company his entire life and was vice president at the time of his death. He was well known among Yolo, Sutter and Solano county growers and was a member of the California Dry Bean Advisory Board.

Mr. Anastasi graduated from Woodland High School in 1962, where he was a standout baseball player. Also, he was heavily involved in coaching his sons and other ballplayers through area youth leagues.

He was also one of the original managers of the Roy Hobbs over-30 men's league in Woodland and was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants.

He served in the Army as a staff sergeant with tours of duty in Germany and  Texas.

He was a member of the Yolo-Sutter Boat Club, Ducks Unlimited and Knight's Landing Sportsmen's Club. He directed the group's Hunter Safety Program, and was an experienced hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Anastasi is survived by his wife of 31 years, Vollie of Woodland, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Julie; granddaughter, Grace of Burbank; daughter and son-in-law, Alecia and Jim Morris; grandson, Jacob of Sacramento; son, Aaron of Auburn; parents, Antone and June of Woodland; sisters, Janice Schafer, Michele Chamberlin, and Elizabeth Gould, all of Woodland, Camille Reel of Yuba City, and Gretchen Anastasi-Rowland of Danville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela, in 1966.

Arrangements are by McNary's Chapel, Inc.

Jason Daniel Jones

There will be no formal services for Jason Daniel Jones, 25, of Vacaville. Burial will be private.

Born Oct. 2, 1971, in Hayward, Mr.  Jones died July 20, 1997, in Vacaville.

He was employed at the Animal Blood Bank in Dixon. He was an avid baseball fan and played on several local teams. He had lived in Vacaville since 1980.

Mr.  Jones is survived by his father and stepmother, Jack and Sandy  Jones of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; mother and stepfather, Tamara and Greg Everett of Fremont; brother, Aaron of Missoula, Mont.; sisters, Cindy of Fremont, and Leia Brooke of San Jose; stepbrother, David Everett of Fremont; and numerous cousins and nieces.

Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel.

Robert DuBois Leggett

A memorial service for Robert DuBois Leggett, M.D., 76, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel at O'Connor  Woods in Stockton.

Born June 21, 1921, Mr. Leggett died July 21, 1997.

Mr. Leggett graduated from Reed College and the University of Oregon Medical School, both in Portland, Ore.

He practiced anesthesia in San Francisco and Wisconsin; and returned to school in 1975 for gradaute work in psychiatry. He practiced psychiatry in Stockton and Vacaville.

Before retiring, he was employed by the Department of Social Services in Sacramento.

Mr. Leggett is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sons, Stephen and Charles; daughters, Catherine  White and Margaret; and granddaughter, Sarah  White.

A donation may be sent to the Reed College Endowment Fund in Portland, Ore.; or the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Sacramento.

Helen J. Narlock

A private memorial service for Helen J. Narlock, 86, of Vacaville will be held Saturday.

Born Dec. 20, 1910, in Fon Du Lac, Wisc., Mrs. Narlock died July 21, 1997, in Vacaville at Winsor Convalescent Hospital.

She was a homemaker, and lived in Vacaville the past 10 years. She was an avid crocheter and bookreader.

Mrs. Narlock is survived by her daughters, Beverley Bos of Roseville, Shirley Willmschen of Vacaville, Patricia Sommers of Kansas City, Mo., Noel Wisniewski of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jody Thompson of Milbrae; sons, Brian of Pacifica; William of Napa, and Anthony Narlock of Brisbane; 27 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence.

Evelyn Mildred Laurent

Funeral services for Evelyn Mildred Laurent, 69, of Sacramento will be noon Monday at Fairfield Funeral Home.

The Rev. John Lewis of Fellowship Baptist Church in Vacaville will preside. Burial will be at East Lawn Sierra Hills in Sacramento.

Born July 10, 1928, in Vallejo, Mrs. Laurent died July 21, 1997, at Mercy San Juan Hospital after a long illness.

She was a homemaker, and lived in Fairfield since 1963 until moving to Sacramento three months ago.

She is survived by her daughters, Marian Teays and Laura Zizi, both of Sacramento, Cecelia Caranham of San Antonio, and Isabelle Hendrickson of Colorado; sons, Milton Gray of Topeka, Kan., and Kenneth Gray Sr. of Fairfield; sister, Dolly Baker of Shingle Springs; brothers, Phillip Baker of Folsom, and John Baker of Shingle Springs; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Fairfield Funeral Home.

William 'Billie' Martinelli

A memorial service for William "Billie" Martinelli, 60, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Aug. 9, 1997, at Hume Grove, located up the path from the end of Butcher Road.

Born in San Francisco, Mr. Martinelli died July 13, 1997, at NorthBay Medical Center.

He was raised in Vacaville by members of the Pena family. He graduated from Vacaville High School in 1954 and spent nearly all of his remaining life in town.

Mr. Martinelli worked many years at Solano Concrete as well as for other local employers. He was a frequent Irene Larson School charity volunteer.

He is survived by his brother, Tucker of Vacaville; daughters, Sheila and Julie, both of Arizona, Stormie and Dawn, both of Vacaville, and Alicia of Suisun City; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his aunt, Florence Pena; and his brother, Charles.

Donations may be made to Irene Larson School.

Mae Ling

A graveside service for Mae Ling, 84, of Vacaville will be Aug. 1 at North County Cemetery, 2640 Glen Ridge Road, Escondido.

Born May 21, 1913, in Pomona, Mrs. Ling died July 18, 1997, at NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

She graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1932 where she was active in music and drama. She was a homemaker for more than 60 years.

An Escondido resident of 20 years, she was an active member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church. She was one of the oldest members of the church choir.

Mrs. Ling is survived by her son, Donald of Janesville; daughter, Alice Ensley of Vacaville; brother, Russell Hillard of Fallbrook; sister, Roberta Theirdman of Brentwood; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1980, to whom she was married for 46 years.

Contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Faith Community Church, Missions Fund, 639 E. Felicita, Escondido 92025.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
