Joe R. Ramos

Graveside services for Joe R. Ramos, 88, were Friday at Winters Cemetery.

Born Aug. 15, 1908, in Lubrin, Spain, Mr. Ramos died July 22, 1997, at his ranch near Winters.

Mr. Ramos came to America from Spain through Mexico at age 16. He worked in the Vacaville area as a young man. About 1930 he farmed rice in Colusa until 1942, when he and his family moved to the Dixon-Winters area to farm walnuts and almonds, where the family still operates its ranch.

He was a life member of the Elks Lodge of Woodland, a member of the Spanish Club of Placer County, the Farm Bureau and St. Anthony's Church. He enjoyed traveling and going to Calistoga Hot Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Winters; daughter, Dolores of West Sacramento; sister, Esperanza Como of Salta, Argentina; grandchildren, Steve Donaldson, Susan Molvik, Debbie Utterbach, Mathew and Christina; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Frank and Joe.

Visitation and rosary recitation were Thursday at Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.

Betty J. Rhone

Funeral services for Betty J. Rhone, 54, will be 11 a.m. Monday, at Vaca Hills Chapel. The Rev. Harris of Oakland will officiate.

Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Oct. 28, 1942, in Rouston, La., Mrs. Rhone died July 21, 1997, in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Rhone moved to the area in 1989. She was a supervisor for American Home Foods for many years. She was active in her Oakland church and loved golf and enjoyed fishing.

She is survived by her son, Kevin of Sacramento; daughters, Sharon Fincher and Linda, both of Vacaville; mother, Willena Woodard of Oakland; father, O.B. McDonald of  Louisiana; sisters, Linda Blackwell, Cora Woodard, Patty Wood, and Evelyn Woodard, all of Oakland; brothers, Thomas and Dennis Woodard, both of Oakland, and Tony Woodard of Sacramento; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

James Lee Spangler

Funeral services for James Lee Spangler, 53, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Chaplain Earl Smith and Rev. John J. O'Neill will officiate. Entombment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield.

Born July 15, 1944, in Lancaster, Ohio, Mr. Spangler died July 23, 1997, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo after a long illness.

Mr. Spangler lived in Fairfield for nine years. He served in the Army for two years, the National Guard for two years, and the Navy for two years. He worked for the California Department of Corrections for 25 years, beginning in 1972 as a correctional officer at Folsom Prison. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant at San Quentin State Prison on July 16, 1972. He was promoted to lieutenant in May 1983 and to the rank of captain in December 1987.

He enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Debra of Fairfield; mother, Wanda of Lancaster, Ohio; son, James Jr. of Reno; stepdaughter, Joy of Reno; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Monroe "Bud" Frazier of Lancaster, Ohio; sister, Patty Adkins of Sacramento; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Jenny of Lancaster, Ohio; Ronnie and Joyce of West Point, Miss., and Tony and Mary Lou of Sacramento; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Weldon, in 1990.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, 1850 W.  Texas St., Fairfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Northern California, 856 Stanton Road, Burlingame 94010.

Aquilina Valerio Redfield

A Mass of Christian Burial for Aquilina Valerio Redfield, 81, of Fairfield will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1050 N.  Texas St., Fairfield.

The Rev. Louis Valenzuela will officiate. Burial will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St., Fairfield.

Born Jan. 4, 1916, in the Philippine Islands, Mrs. Redfield died July 25, 1997, at Doctor's Hospital in Pinole following a long illness.

A 16-year Fairfield resident, she was a homemaker for 31 years.

She was a member of the Fil-Am Pioneers of Fairfield, Suisun and Vacaville; Sto. Nino de Cebul of Vacaville; and the Legion of Virgin Mary of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Fairfield.

Mrs. Redfield is survived by her daugther, Mary Louise Harris of Fairfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Earl and Nancy Redfield of Korea, Mark Lewis and Maura Redfield, and Walter Leo and Adelina Redfield, all of Fairfield; sister, Herminia Lily Pagsolingan of the Philippine Islands; brothers, Daniel G. Valerio of New York and Fedirico Duding Valerio of Oregon; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Jesus Q. Maanao

Funeral services for Jesus Q. Maanao, 56 of Guam will be 2 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Sebastian Meyer will preside. Burial will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born May 2, 1941, in Guam, Mr. Maanao died July 27, 1997, in Fairfield after a long illness.

He served in the Air Force for 26 years, retiring in 1986 as a master sergeant from the 60th Squadron, Travis Air Force Base.

During his career, he served at Castle AFB in Moran, Spain; Fairchild, Wash.; Kadena, Okinawa; Lackland AFB,  Texas; Korat, Thailand; Eglin AFB, Fla.; Rhein-Main, Germany; and Guam. He worked for civil service at Travis from 1988 to 1997.

Mr. Maanao is survived by his wife, Ana of Suisun City; sons, Jose and Michael, both of Suisun, and Jesse of Travis; daughter, Ann-Marie of Fairfield; sisters, Delores Mendiola and Lourdes Rios, both of Guam; brother, Johnny of Guam; daughters-in-law, Thomasenia and Leonora; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Maxine Lulu Walsh

Funeral services for Maxine Lulu Walsh, 87, will be at noon on Friday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Jude Ezeji will preside.

Inurnment will be private.

Born Oct. 2, 1919, in Dickinson, N.D., Mrs. Walsh died on July 24, 1997, in Vallejo, after a long illness.

Mrs. Walsh lived in the area for 50 years, having moved to Vacaville from Vallejo many years ago. She was a homemaker for 60 years. She enjoyed visiting with her family and watching softball games.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin of Vacaville; daughters, Patricia Chamberlain, Michaela Albini, Rory Tate, Dara Sherwood, all of Vacaville; a son, John of Vacaville; sister, Louvella Robbins of Santa Rosa; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchild; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held in St. Mary's Catholic Church from 10 a.m. to noon Friday.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Ruth E. Chandler

A Memorial Mass for Ruth E. Chandler, 77, will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Citrus Heights.

Inurnment will be private at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Lafayette.

A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Chandler died on July 29, 1997.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert C. Chandler, six children and their spouses, Sharon and Bill Mellor of Fremont; Robert and Carol of Nashville, Tenn., Patrick and Debbie of Clear Lake; James and Teresa of Rancho Cordova, Kathleen and Gary Martin of Vacaville; Colleen and Clyde Holtsman of Citrus Heights; brothers and sisters, Mary Martha Snyder, John Shaffer, Florence Powell, Helen Plasterer, Virginia McKenzie and Eugene Shaffer; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son a, Michael, and a brother, Harry Shaffer.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Mercy San Juan Hospital Chapel, Carmichael.

Remembrances can be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund.

Catherine Ann Kidby

Graveside services for Catherine Ann Kidby, 89, of Fairfield will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Rev. Jude Ezeji of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born March 15, 1908, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Kidby died July 30, 1997, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield after a long illness.

Mrs. Kidby moved to the area in 1980. She was a homemaker for 55 years. She loved music and played piano for Vacaville Senior Center and is a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, William of Fairfield; brother, Charles Veltung of Greenlawn, N.Y.; grandchildren, Matthew of Vacaville and Veronica of Fairfield; great-grandchildren, Brenda Newberry and Darian Lederer, both of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1992.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel in Vacaville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity in her name.

August G. Liebig

Funeral services for August G. Liebig, 86, of Winters, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Morrison Funeral Chapel, 990 Vintage Ave. in St. Helena.

Kevin R. Yost will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Helena Cemetery.

Born Jan. 23, 1911, in Burne, N.D., Mr. Liebig died July 27, 1997, in Fairfield.

A roofer for 50 years with Baker-Baker Roofing in Vallejo, he also was a custom farmer in the Napa Valley for 20 years.

Mr. Liebig is survived by his wife, Patricia of Fairfield; sons, Mike of St. Helena, and Dennis and August, both of Napa; daughter, Johann Elia of Winters; stepdaughters, Patricia Reniker of Vacaville, Nancy Khan of Sacramento and Susan Mauro of Florida; brother, Jack of Lodi; sisters, Ruth Azavedo of Lodi and Elizabeth Biederman of Sacramento; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Morrision Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society -- Napa County, 1732  Jefferson St., Napa 94558.

Patricia K. Madewell

Funeral services for Patricia K. Madewell, 78, will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Freewell Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Pastor Sam Hensley will officiate.

Burial will immediately follow at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born April 15, 1919, in Glasgow, Mont., Mrs. Madewell died July 29, 1997, at home after a brief illness.

Mrs. Madewell had lived in Fairfield for the past 30 years. She had been a secretary employed by Union Oil in Casper, Wy. and Texaco Oil Company. She then was employed as a secretary for the Divine Word Seminary in Riverside for a time. She was a member at large of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She is survived her husband, Jim of Fairfield; daughter, Elizabeth of Fairfield; sister, Olive Fake of Casper, Wy.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the Freewill Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mr. R.P. Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Ave., Vacaville 95688.

Arrangements were made by Morrison Funeral Chapel, St. Helena.

William Partier II

A memorial service for William Albert Christian Partier II, who died Tuesday at the age of 83, will be held Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 127 Lassen Circle in Vacaville.

Mr. Partier was born in Manila, the Philippines Sept. 30, 1913. He was raised in Shanghai, China and moved to Vacaville 21 years ago for his retirement. Mr. Partier worked for the International Longshore Warehouse Union Local #10 for 40 years in San Francisco. He served four years in the Merchant Marines on the Pacific Ocean during World War II.

He is remembered by his family as a devoted family man.

Mr. Partier is survived by his wife, Faith Partier of Vacaville; sons and daughters-in-law Donald and Suzi, Edward and Dolores and William and Joan; his extended family, Donald Threde, Raymond Threde, Robin Threde and Marlene Zwemmer and their spouses; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's charity of choice. Arrangements are being handled by the McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.
