Alvin P. Pointkowski

Memorial services for Alvin P. Pointkowski, 69, of Vacaville will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Vacaville Moose Lodge.

Born Sept. 13, 1927, Mr. Pointkowski died Aug. 16, 1997.

He retired 11 years ago from Pacific Gas & Electric after 40 years of service, and was a member of the Vacaville Moose Lodge for 28 years.

He was a resident of Vacaville for 30 years.

Mr. Pointkowski is survived by his friend, Doris Jones; brother, Russell of Fresno; four sisters; three daughters; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary Christine Watson

Funeral services for Mary Christine Watson, 74, of Fairfield will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St. in Fairfield.

The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela of Holy Spirit Catholic Church will officiate. Private burial will be in Rockville Cemetery.

Born Sept. 2, 1922, in Little Pond, Canada, Mrs. Watson died Aug. 18, 1997, at home after a short illness.

She worked for Pacific Bell as an operator for 25 years, and as a volunteer for Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. She was a member of the Pacific Bell Pioneers and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She loved to travel and was an avid baseball fan.

She is survived by her sons, James and Jack Jr., both of Fairfield, and Thomas of Phoenix; daughter, Kathleen Albrecht of Suisun City; brother, Gerald Foley of Fairfield; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 3157, Fairfield 94533.

Phyllis Mercedese Brown

A graveside service for Phyllis Mercedese Brown, 78, of Fairfield will be held at noon Monday in the Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery in Hayward.

The Rev. Phil Stewart of Lewelling Community Church of San Leandro will officiate.

Born March 29, 1919, in Kansas City, Mo., she died Aug. 19, 1997, in Safe Haven Care Home in Fairfield after a long illness.

She lived in San Lorenzo 40 years before moving to Fairfield for four years. She enjoyed reading books and cooking as a chef. She had been a breeder of Pekingese dogs.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Nancy Smith; grandchildren, Phyllis Ruiz and Suzann Purtee; great-grandchildren, Travis and Thomas; and cousin, Karen Schoenfeldt of Part Angeles, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; daughter, Lee Ricker; and son, Robert Ricker.

Richard_Gene_Imbrie

Funeral services for Richard Gene Imbrie, 67, of Vacaville will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Terry Haley of Missouri, a nephew, will officiate. Burial will be private.

Born July 27, 1930, in St. Joseph, Mo., Mr. Imbrie died Aug. 19, 1997, in his Vacaville home.

He operated a family business since moving to Vacaville in 1975.

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He had been an active member of the Antioch Lions Club and was a founding member of the Vacaville Heart Lions Club.

Along with Shirley Ann, his wife of 44 years, he was active in the community and supported several charities.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Imbrie is survived by sons, Philip Brian and Hal Stringfellow; sister, Virginia Farmer; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Steven Winifred.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today in the chapel, 212 Main St. in Vacaville.

Ricardo Munoz Sr.

Funeral services for Ricardo Munoz Sr., 66, of Vacaville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Father Vincent O'Reilly of St. Joseph's Catholic Church will preside. Internment will follow immediately in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Aug. 18, 1931, in Michigan, Mr. Munoz died Aug. 19, 1997, in Fairfield.

He had lived in Vacaville for 40 years. He was a retired master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, having served for 26 years. He was a load master with the 22nd airlift squadron, and served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and flew more than 2,000 hours.

He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, bowling and chess. He liked watching game shows and was very social.

Mr. Munoz is survived by his ex-wife, Ada Munoz of Vacaville; sons, Rick, Steve and Mike, all of Fairfield, and Richard Anthony of San Francisco; brothers, Jessie, Tony and Gil of Illinois; sisters, Josephine Munoz and Tina Cobien, both of Illinois, Irene Nino and Maria Elena Cobien, both of  Texas, Rikki Veloz of Los Angeles, and Marie Cobien of Illinois; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for research, 290 Fruitvale Road, Vacaville 95688.

Donald Richard Powell

There will be no funeral services for Donald Richard Powell, 62, of Vacaville, who died of cancer Aug. 17, 1997.

Instead, his ashes will be scattered off the coastline of San Francisco.

Mr. Powell was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Ohio, and moved to Solano County in 1979. He worked as a cook on a Navy oiler from 1962 to 1967 in Vietnam, and during his later years worked as an apartment manager. When not at work, Mr. Powell loved fishing.

He is survived by his companion, Carmen Borden; daughter, Melissa Vitctie of Belmont; son, Marshall of Fortuna; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Deer Creek Mortuary in Dublin.

Joan Vail Spearman

Memorial services for Joan Vail Spearman, 83, of Vacaville will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Interment will be private.

Born April 18, 1914, in Cincinnati, she died Aug. 20, 1997, in Fairfield.

Mrs. Spearman moved to Vacaville 10 years ago. She worked as a case worker for Workers' Compensation in New York City for 25 years. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Bronx, N.Y. She sang in church choir as well as several other vocal groups.

Mrs. Spearman enjoyed sewing, singing and cooking.

She is survived by a daughter, Emilie L. Henry of Vacaville; grandchildren, Danette Henry of New York City, James Henry of Wisconsin, David Henry of Sacramento and Donald Henry of Suisun; and nine great-grandchildren.

Harry John Bonessa

There will be no funeral services for Harry John Bonessa, 75, of Vacaville.

Inurnment will be private.

Born July 21, 1922, in New York state, Mr. Bonessa died Aug. 22, 1997, at VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Bonessa was an airline pilot for Air America for 44 years. He was in the Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1945. He is a member of American Legion, China Post No. 1, Air America Club, and Civil Air Transport.

Mr. Bonessa is survived by his wife, Nancy of Vacaville; three daughters and sons-in-law; one son and daughter-in-law; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home.

Leland 'Chip' Travers III

Funeral services for Leland "Chip" Travers III, 52, of Vacaville will be held at noon Sunday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

The Rev. Leo Nelson will officiate. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born April 25, 1945, in Canton, Ohio, he died Aug. 20, 1997, in VacaValley Hospital of an illness.

Mr. Travers moved to the area 16 years ago. He owned and operated Hog Power Motorcycle Shop for 20 years. He enjoyed Harley-Davidsons.

Mr. Travers is survived by his companion, Suzy Nelson of Vacaville; mother, Gloria Travers of Canton, Ohio; children, Leland IV of Canton, Ohio, Dawn of Vacaville, Rachel Vincent of Santa Rosa, and Miriam Nicole Green of Fairfield; brothers, Robert of Novato and Danny of Canton, Ohio; sister, Kathy Torrence of Berlin, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leland James II, in 1992.

Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight in Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road in Vacaville.

Paul 'Pablo' H. Fernandez

Funeral services for Paul "Pablo" H. Fernandez, 86, of Fairfield, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield.

The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate.

Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery in Suisun Valley.

Born Jan. 19, 1911, in Santa Lucia Ilocos Sur, the Philippines, he died Aug. 21, 1997, in Fairfield after a long illness.

He lived in Fairfield 28 years and for 35 years was a self-employed landscaper. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mr. Fernandez is survived by his wife, Hazel of Fairfield; daughters, Susan Candida Spencer of Colorado Springs,  Colo., and Mary Katherine Strode of Loomis; son, Daniel Alonzo of Salem, Ore.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday CM Aug. 25at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders, 800 San Antonio Road, Suite 2, Palo Alto, 94303.

Thomas Francis Hynson

Funeral services for Thomas Francis Hynson, 66, of Napa, will be 2 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Travis Air Force Base Chapel Center.

The Rev. Patrick McCain will officiate.

Inurnment will be private.

Born Oct. 23, 1930, in Rock Hall, Md., Mr. Hynson died Aug. 18, 1997, in David Grant Medical Center after a brief illness.

He served with the Marine Corps in Korea and Vietnam. After retirement as a sergeant in 1969, he served as a chef at San Francisco General Hospital until 1974, when he moved to Lake Berryessa.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Mr. Hynson is survived by his son, Tommy L. of Napa; brother, Hershey of Silver Springs, Md.; sister, Lila Meyers of Westminster, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn, and daughter, Eileen.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice of Northern California, 600 Nut Tree Road, Vacaville, 95688, or Queen of the Valley Hospital, 1000 Trancas St., Napa, 94558.
