Una Mae Jarvis

A Catholic Prayer Service for Una Mae Jarvis, 71, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St. in Vacaville.

The Rev. Innocent Emechete of St. Mary's Catholic Church will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Born Feb. 25, 1926, in Mills County,  Texas, Mrs. Jarvis died Aug. 21, 1997, in Vacaville after a brief illness.

A 40-year resident of Vacaville and Fairfield, she worked at Basic Vegetable in Vacaville for 25 years before she retired. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 80, and was also a member of the local Teamsters union.

Mrs. Jarvis also enjoyed gardening in her yard.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Darline Bellacera, and Charlynn and Tony McKinney, all of Vacaville; sons and daughters-in-law, Benny and Sherry of Vacaville, and Clifford and Cheryl of Beaverton, Ore.; 10 brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jarvis was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 1975.

Evelyn Herndon Metcalf

Funeral services for Evelyn Herndon Metcalf, 74, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in McCune Garden Chapel.

The Rev. Rex Herndon of Cerritos will officiate. Burial will in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Jan. 19, 1923, in Eureka Springs, Ark., she died Aug. 22, 1997, in Salt Lake City after a brief illness.

A 33-year resident of Vacaville, Mrs. Metcalf worked in the medical profession for 30 years in Arkansas, Fairfield and Vacaville. She retired from Explosive Technology Inc. in 1987. She enjoyed traveling and being with her family and friends throughout the United States.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville.

Mrs. Metcalf is survived by her husband, Norman; daughters and sons-in-law, Richard and Neva Thorson and Edward and Marilyn Martin of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sandra Edens of Pinehurst, N.C.; stepson, Steven Metcalf of Vacaville; sisters, June Myers of Twin Falls, Idaho, Danny Roberts of Salt Lake and Dixie Faatz of St. Peters, Mo.; brothers, John Herndon of Salt Lake City, Obediah Herndon of Hazelwood, Mo., and Rex Herndon of Cerritos; grandchildren, Deborah Dalianis Bischoff of Tampa, Fla., Cynthia Dalianis Bischoff of Chico, Kimberly and Craig Edens of Fremont; and Kristopher Martin of Vacaville; a stepgrandson; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in McCune Garden Chapel.

William Junior Royce

Memorial services for William Junior Royce, 77, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Representatives from the Loyal Order of Moose, Fairfield Lodge No. 861, will officiate. Private inurnment will follow.

Born July 10, 1920, in Peru, Ind., Mr. Royce died Aug. 21, 1997, at his home after a long illness. He had lived in Fairfield for 41 years.

He was a sergeant first class in the Army from 1940 to 1962.

Mr. Royce served in World War II as an infantryman in the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He served in the Korean War where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.

His medals included American Defense, European, African and Middle Eastern Service with five Bronze Stars, United Nations Service, Army of Occupation (Germany), World War II Service, Korean Service, National Defense Service, combat infantryman's badge, sharpshooter marksmanship, Good Conduct and Army Commendation.

While in the military, Mr. Royce graduated from the Nike Missile School in Fort Bliss,  Texas, and earned a certificate from engineer's school. He also earned certificates to be a tractor and scraper operator and a construction foreman.

After retiring from the military, he was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Fairfield from 1962 to 1982.

He was president of the Mail Carriers Association and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Fairfield Lodge No. 861, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fairfield Aerie No. 4113 and the American Legion of Ohio. He was known for his sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann; daughter, Catherine Grunduig of Jerome, Ind.; sons, Richard Munzanreder of Vallejo and Bryan Arch Royce of Fairfield; former wife, Beatrice Hanna-Royce of Fairfield; brother, Robert of Marysville, Wash.; sister, Dorothy  Jones of Chula Vista; three grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Benjamin, in 1975.

Salvador 'Chavita' Paramo

Services for Salvador "Chavita" Paramo, 12, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Burial will be in the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Born July 14, 1985, in Vallejo, he died Aug. 21, 1997, in Celaya, Mexico, after a short illness.

He was a student at Laurel Creek Elementary School in Fairfield and had completed the fifth grade. He was a good student with many friends and was known for his good sense of humor. He had adored his father, Abraham Paramo, who served in the U.S. military and who preceded him in death in 1995.

Survivors include his mother, Rosa of Fairfield; sister, Rosalinda of Fairfield; brothers, Abraham III and Jorge, both of Fairfield, and aunt, Sylvia Thuen of Fremont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvador Paramo Trust Fund at Bank of America, 1120  Texas St., Fairfield 94533.

Alic 'Tiny' Cummings

Funeral services for Alic "Tiny" Cummings, 70, of Vacaville will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

The Rev. Randal Roach will officiate. Private burial will be in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Nov. 30, 1926, in  Texas, Mr. Cummings died Aug. 23, 1997, in VacaValley Hospital.

He moved to Vacaville in 1958. He owned and operated Tiny's Mobil Station on Leisure Town Road for 22 years.

He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having participated in the Berlin Airlift.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Vacaville; sons, Richard J. of Fairfield and Robert F. of Vacaville; daughter, Connie Eileen Marsh of San Antonio; brothers, Willard of Fort Worth,  Texas, Truman of Plano,  Texas, and Dean of Valliant, Okla; sister, Mozelle Watts of Dallas; grandchildren, Christopher of Fairfield, and Richard and Ray Marsh, both of San Antonio.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home, 524 Elmira Road in Vacaville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.

Donald 'Buzz' Andrews

Memorial services for Donald "Buzz" Andrews, 71, of Vacaville will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Vacaville Moose Lodge.

Inurnment will be private.

Born Nov. 8, 1925, in La Moine, Mr. Andrews died Aug. 24, 1997, in David Grant Medical Center after a long illness.

A 32-year Vacaville resident he worked as a cook for Civil Services at Travis Air Force Base for 14 years, retiring in 1983. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1974 and was a veteran of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He was also a member of the Vacaville Moose Lodge and Veterans of Foreign War.

Mr. Andrews is survived by his wife, Coryl of Vacaville; daughters, Barbara Grable of Mandeville, La., and Michelle Ragan and Patricia Santanicola, both of Vacaville; son, Ron Bauer of Jewett City, Conn.; brothers, Elden of Wilton, Ore., and Bob Smith of Sonoma; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home.

Nadine Bettis

Funeral services for Nadine Bettis, 44, of Vacaville will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Thompson's Rose Chapel, 3601 Fifth Ave. in Sacramento.

Interment will be in Camellia Memorial Lawn.

A Solano County resident for 17 years, Mrs. Bettis was a native of Mobile, Ala.

She is survived by sisters, Delores Blackmon, Anna Marie Collins, Carolyn Edwards, Shirley Carstarphen, Stella Winn, Iteldia Davis, and LaTanza and Wendy Elmore; and brother, Robert Elmore.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Willette and Stella  White.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday in Thompson's Rose Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc.

Thomas Francis Hynson

Funeral services for Thomas Francis Hynson, 66, of Napa will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 5 at Chapel Center at Travis Air Force Base.

Chaplain Patrick McCain will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Born Oct. 23, 1930, in Rock Hall, Md., he died Aug. 18, 1997, at David Grant Medical Center after a brief illness.

A 23-year resident of Napa, he served in the Marine Corps from 1948 to 1969. A sergeant, he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with four bronze stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Purple Heart. After 1969 he served as a chef at San Francisco General Hospital until 1974, when he moved to Lake Berryessa. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his son, Tommy of Napa; brother, Hershey of Silver Springs, Md.; sister, Lila Meyers of Westminister, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn, and daughter Eileen.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Northern California, 600 Nut Tree Road, Vacaville 95688; or Queen of the Valley Hospital, 1000 Trancas St., Napa 94558.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Salvador 'Chavita' Paramo

James Henry Pendleton

A private memorial service will be held for James Henry Pendleton, 83, of Fairfield.

Inurnment will be private.

Born Sept. 29, 1913, in New York City, Mr. Pendleton died Aug. 23, 1997, in Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael.

He lived in Fairfield for 33 years.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1936 until 1958. During World War II, he served in New Guinea and Australia. He also served during the Korean War.

He retired from the Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base in  Washington, D.C., in 1958 with the rank of master sergeant. He later worked as a civil service supply inspector at Travis Air Force Base. He retired from there in 1970.

He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Fairfield.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Fairfield; daughters and son-in-law, Diane and Dr. William Donnoe of Carmichael, Jennifer of Woodland Hills and Beverly of Palo Alto; sister, Jean Dunkin of Houston; and two grandchildren.
