Alana Rachel Korn

Funeral services for Alana Rachel Korn, 17, of Vacaville will be 4 p.m. Tuesday in Valley Evangelical Free Church in Vacaville.

The Rev. Jerry Sweany will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. A private burial is scheduled at the Vacaville Elmira Cemetery.

Born July 11, 1980, in Newport Beach, Ms. Korn died Aug. 28, 1997, in Dixon in an automobile accident.

Ms. Korn enjoyed riding her horse Hikari and was an award-winning horse show rider. She also was president of the Junior Wrangler Youth Group and Color Guard of Vacaville. She was an honor student at Will C. Wood High School and a member of the French Club.

She is survived by her parents, Steve and Gayle Korn of Vacaville; brother, Jonathon Korn of Vacaville; paternal grandmother, Florence Korn of Monroe, N.Y.; maternal great-grandmother, Anna Keenan of Buffalo, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Will C. Wood Sober Grad Night, P.O. Box 1229, Vacaville 95696.

Ethel M. Holt

Private funeral services will be held for Ethel M. Holt, 90, of Fairfield. A private funeral also is scheduled in the Fairfield Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 20, 1906, in Warrensburg, Mo., Mrs. Holt died Sept. 1, 1997, in her Fairfield home.

She lived in Fairfield for 16 years.

She was active in activities at the Senior Citizen Center, and loved fishing and gardening. She was a homemaker for 50 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Arnetta Boyd of San Diego; granddaughter, Marsha Colbert of Fairfield; grandson, Galen Golston of San Diego; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Joseph Daniel Patrick

Funeral services were Saturday for Joseph Daniel Patrick, 16, of Winters.

Burial was Tuesday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born March 12, 1981, at Travis Air Force Base, he died Aug. 28, 1997, in rural Dixon from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The teenager was a maintenance worker for the past several months.

He is survived by his father, Bradley of Winters; mother and stepfather, Debra and Rich McNamara of Medford, Ore.; brother, David of Medford; sister, Kelly of Hornbrook; maternal grandmother, Syble Ewing of Western Grove, Ark.; paternal grandmother, Helen of Winters; great-grandfather, Sedric O. Esqueda; aunts and uncles, Steven and Diana Trompeter of San Diego, Louise of Dixon, Jim and Cyndi of Vacaville, Sandy of Vacaville, Kevin Trompeter of Vacaville, Gary of Winters, and Brenda Verville of Manteca; and numerous cousins.

Donations can be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

'Mac' McCoy

No formal funeral services will be held for "Mac" McCoy, 76, of Vacaville.

Burial will be private.

Born June 27, 1921, in War Eagle, W.Va., he died Sept. 3, 1997, in David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base of a heart attack.

He lived in Vacaville 30 years and was a technical sergeant with the Air Force at Travis Air Force Base for 20 years, before serving at the base as a civil service auditor.

He was a member of the base golf course and was a volunteer starter at the course. In addition to golf, he enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Mr. McCoy is a direct descendant of the family involved in the famous Hatfield-McCoy feud.

He observed his 50th wedding anniversary May 7 with his wife, Martha.

Mr. McCoy also is survived by his son, Eugene of Miramar, Fla.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Sally Jane Peterson

Funeral services for Sally Jane Peterson, 63, of Vacaville, will be 2 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel.

Burial will be at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery following the services. Pastor Chris Alderton of Valley Evangelical Free Church of Vacaville will officiate.

Born March 18, 1934, in  Jefferson Barracks, Mo., she died Aug. 31, 1997, in Fairfield after a short illness.

Mrs. Peterson worked for the Vacaville Unified School District as a secretary for 15 years and was a member of the Vacaville Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, painting, crafts, sewing and singing.

She is survived by her husband, Jack of Vacaville; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristy and Stephen Barnes of Virginia and Kim and Don Reppond of Vacaville; son, Jack Jr. of Vacaville; grandchildren, Jesika, Zachary, Karlie, Ross and Ryan; aunt, Edna Schroeder of Illinois; and a dear friend, Sis Ackerman of Illinois.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cancer Research, 290 Fruitvale Road, Vacaville 95688.

Orval Harold Young

Funeral services for Orval Harold Young, 81, of Fairfield will be held at 10 a.m. today at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2700 Camrose Drive in Fairfield.

His son, Bishop Anthony Young, will officiate. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. today, and burial will follow the services in Rockville Cemetery.

Born Dec. 12, 1915, in Bern, Idaho, Mr. Young died Sept. 1, 1997, at his son's Fairfield home after a short illness.

Mr. Young spent most of his life in Burbank, where he was active in the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife lived in Littleton,  Colo., from 1981 to 1988 before moving to Fairfield.

He was very active in his church and was an avid hunter, fisherman and music lover. Before retiring last year, he worked for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District.

He is survived by his wife, Lola; sons and daughters-in-law, DeForrest and Kim of Littleton, and Anthony and Vicki of Fairfield; brother, Dennis of Garden Grove; sister, Norma Walton of Baldwyn, Miss.; half-sisters, Eva Shelly of American Fork, Utah, and Colleen Staker of Salt Lake City; half-brother, Kenneth Young of Utah; and nine grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Edith W. Armstrong

Funeral services for Edith W. Armstrong, 93, of Fairfield will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Fairfield Funeral Home, 1750  Pennsylvania Ave.

The Rev. Vic Matson and Robert Sanford of Community United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Feb. 22, 1904, in Tracey, Iowa, Mrs. Armstrong died Sept. 3, 1997, in NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

She was a teacher at Tolenas Elementary School for 11 years, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of Methodist Women, Retired Teachers of Solano County and the Senior Americans Club.

Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her daughters, Marcia Fredenburg of Fairfield and Marilee Silva of Albion; and sister, Gladys Havey of Fairfield.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Fairfield Funeral Home.

Verlyn Jay Dunbarr

Funeral services for Verlyn Jay Dunbarr, 74, of Sacramento will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

The Rev. Leroy Gainey of Vacaville's First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Jan. 9, 1923, in Trinidad,  Colo., he died Sept. 3, 1997, in Sacramento after a short illness.

He lived in Sacramento two years after moving from Vacaville.

He was a rigger at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 30 years and had served in the Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed listening to church programs and gardening.

Mr. Dunbarr is survived by his wife, Gertrude; sons, Daniel Jay and Larry Joseph of Vacaville, and Richard Eugene and William David, both of New Mexico; daughters, Linda Marie Dunbarr of Los Angeles, Patricia Ann Wall and Carol Lee, both of Fairfield, Bonnie Jean Pettyjohn of Torrence, Kathleen Diane Williamson of South Dakota, Peggy Lorraine Aguilar and Mary Beth Hernandez, both of Vacaville; sisters, Annabelle Conley and Alice Rogers of Sacramento; brothers, Samuel J. of Lemon Grove and Glendale Dean of Sacramento; 28 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel Sunday.

Lynn Hexner

Private funeral services will be held for Lynn Hexner, 70, of Vacaville.

Born Feb. 9, 1927, Mrs. Hexner died Aug. 29, 1997, in Vacaville of natural causes. She moved from Concord, where she had lived for 44 years, to Vacaville four years ago.

She worked as a chiropractic assistant and an elementary school reading tutor.

She was a majority member of the International Order of Job's Daughters, and a member of the Daughters of the Nile.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Hexner, who died in March 1976.

Survivors include her daughters, Janice Smith of Chico, Robin Petersen of Santa Rosa, Linda Pergamit of Vacaville and Cheryl Hexner of Concord; sister, Jean Marin of Orinda; father, Byron E. Haslam of Santa Cruz; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions should be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento 95817, and Brown's Valley Elementary School Reading Program, 333 Wrentham Ave., Vacaville 95688.

Esperanza Marie Magalong

Mass of The Angels for Esperanza Marie Magalong, 3 weeks old, of Vacaville will be 9 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Father David O'Rourke of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Aug. 14, 1997, in Fairfield, Baby Magalong died Sept. 4, 1997, in Children's Hospital in Oakland of a sudden illness.

She is survived by her parents, Darien Magalong and Sonia Mercado of Vacaville; twin sister, Esmeralda Dana of Vacaville; grandparents, Theresa and Nato Hernandez, and Vince and Margaret Mercado, all of Vacaville; great-grandparents, Gilbert and Sophia Santitstevan of Vacaville, Mr. and Mrs. Magalong of Vallejo and Esther Robinson of Santa Rosa; uncles, Damien Magalong, Adam Martinez, Julio Hernandez and Vincent Mercado, all of Vacaville; aunts, Alicia Hernandez and Rosa Mercado, both of Vacaville; and numerous other relatives.

Arrangements are under the direction of Vaca Hills Chapel.

Theodora Hargis Miller

Funeral services for Theodora Hargis Miller, 89, of Vacaville were held Thursday at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento. The Rev. Arnold Vocke officiated.

Born May 16, 1908, in Vacaville, Mrs. Miller died Sept. 1, 1997, in Roseville.

She was a graduate of Chico State University, and was a kindergarten teacher for 13 years at Harmon  Johnson Elementary School in North Sacramento.

She is the wife of the late Harry A. Hargis and the late Henry Miller.

Mrs. Miller is survived by daughters, Shirley Measures of Newcastle and Linda Duncan of Sacramento; sister of Louis Pyle of Susanville; brothers, Ed Pyle of Vacaville and Milton Pyle of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Miller's first husband, Harry Hargis, was the assistant fire chief at McClellan Air Force Base from 1941 to 1958.

Services were under the direction of North Saramento Funeral Home.
