Darrell Wayne Sherman

Private family services will be held in Vacaville for Darrell Wayne Sherman, 70, of Vacaville.

Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Sherman died Oct. 5, 1997, at his home after a long illness.

Born Aug. 20, 1927, in Hornersville, Mo., he moved to Vacaville 22 years ago. Mr. Sherman had been the owner/operator of D&D Paint in Vacaville and Richmond for the past 24 years.

Mr. Sherman is survived by his daughter, Beth of Vacaville; sons, Mark and David, both of Vacaville; sister, Helen McCoy of Oregon; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nita, in 1987.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Benicia, Hospice VNA, Solano County Branch, 1100 Rose Drive, No. 100, Benicia, 94510.

Arrangements are by Nadeau Family Funeral Home in Vacaville.

Bernard John Muss

Upon his request, there will be no services for Bernard John Muss, 90, of Fairfield.
Born Jan. 11, 1907, Mr. Muss died Oct. 4, 1997, at NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

A native of Germany, Mr. Muss lived in Fairfield since 1959 while stationed at Travis Air Force Base. He retired from the Air Force in 1968 after serving 26 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War.

He was an active member of the Travis Federal Credit Union for many years after his military service. He was a loan officer and a member of the credit committee.

Mr. Muss is survived by his wife, Elfriede of Fairfield; daughter, Karin E. Niemann of Vacaville; and sister and brother-in-law, Fiedsch and Hans Marschke of Germany.

Arrangements are by the Neptune Society of Northern California in Sacramento.

Linda Carpenter Harris

A memorial service for Linda Carpenter Harris, 48, of Dixon was held Tuesday in Dixon Community Church.

The Rev. Richard Wylie officiated. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Harris died Oct. 2, 1997, in Dixon after a long illness.

Born Dec. 8, 1948, in Woodland, she lived in Allendale for 20 years and then moved to Dixon where she lived all of her married life.

She worked as a repacker in the PayLess Drug Stores warehouse for 12 years.

Mrs. Harris enjoyed fishing, camping, swimming and boating. She was very involved with her family, always planning and hosting family get-togethers.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband, Howard of Dixon; son, Michael Clark of Fairfield; daughters, Deanna Friedline of Fresno, Frances Barraza of Davis, Janet Bottoms of Vacaville and Nancy Harris of Oakley; parents, Harold and Pauline Bell of Allendale; sisters, Carla Lazelle of Fairfield, Arainia Shaffer of  Pennsylvania, Margaret George and Ann Marie Castro, both of Dixon; brothers, Thane Carpenter and William Carpenter, both of  Washington; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Lynn Nix and father, Thane L. Carpenter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kaiser Hospice, c/o Kaiser Permanente, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, 94590.

Arrangements are by Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon.

Donald Sylvester McKim

Funeral services for Donald Sylvester McKim, 83, of Dixon will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

The Rev. Robert Ogren will officiate. A private burial will follow.

Born April 6, 1914, in Lemon, S.D., he died Oct. 3, 1997, in Vacaville after a brief illness.

Mr. McKim was a Dixon resident for 50 years but lived in the area for 60 years.

He worked as a lather for M.F. Shipley Plastering for 30 years. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Vacaville Pals & Sals Square Dancing Group. He enjoyed fishing, country-western music and sports.

He is survived by his son, Joseph of Vacaville; brothers, Ken and Merle of Vallejo; sisters, Myrtle Kitchen of  Washington and Alice Ogren of Oregon; grandchildren, James of Vacaville, Jodene Nolan of Fairfield, Janette Butler of Vacaville and Joseph of Singapore; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Rickey and Brooke.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa, 95402.

Richard Russell Adams

A memorial service for Richard Russell Adams, 17, of Vacaville is planned for 3 p.m. Friday in the library of Will C. Wood High School.

If more than 150 people attend, the service will be moved to the auditorium.

Mr. Adams died Oct. 2, 1997, in Vacaville after a shooting.

Born Nov. 15, 1979, in Hayward, he moved to Vacaville in 1988. He was a senior at Will C. Wood High School who enjoyed fishing and bowling. He had also played football, soccer and baseball at Vaca Pena Middle School.

He is survived by his mother, Toni Maldonado of Vacaville; brother, Garry Adams of Vacaville; sisters, Leslie Maldonado of Vacaville and Krystal Metzler of Oakley; grandparents, John and Jeannie Arms of Vacaville; grandfather, Rudy Maldonado of Manteca; great-grandfathers, John Arms Sr. of Vacaville and William Poechhacker of Hayward; uncle and aunt, Rudy and Gayle Maldonado of Vacaville; aunt, Peggy Alvarez of Hayward; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including his best friends, Matt Turrey and Anthony Ruiz, both of Vacaville.

The Richard Adams trust fund was also established to help with funeral expenses. Donations can be made to any Wells Fargo Bank branch. The account number is 6107713331.

Alvah Leonard Pearson

Funeral services for Alvah Leonard Pearson, 43, of Vacaville will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel.

The Rev. John Booker of Solano Christian Fellowship Church will preside. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Aug. 28, 1954, in Portsmouth, Va., Mr. Pearson died Oct. 5, 1997, in Baltimore.

Mr. Pearson worked for the state of California for five years, most recently as a certified welding instructor at the Vacaville Detention Center.

Mr. Pearson graduated from Sonoma High School in 1972 and worked for Sonoma State Hospital. He also worked for Napa State Hospital.

He enjoyed music, singing, playing music and directing choirs.

He lived in Vacaville for five years, and he was a member of the Solano Christian Fellowship Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" of Vacaville; daughters, Allison Olivia of Santa Rosa, Rebecca Patrice Kafer of Wisconsin, and Natalie Nicole and Sarah Ann, both of Vacaville; mother, Ann of Mexico; sister, Doris Ann Watt of Mexico; brother, Ira G. Jr. of Farmington; grandchildren, Richard Charles Kafer and Hannah Rose Kafer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Betty Allen

Services for Betty Allen, 69, of Hot Springs, Ark., were held in in the Hot Springs Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial was in Evening Shade Cemetery in Evening Shade, Ark.

Born March 5, 1928, in Higdon, Ark., she died Sept. 30, 1997, in Hot Springs.

A 50-year Hot Springs resident, she was a retired instructor for Lake Catherine Footwear and was a Methodist.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Walter of Hot Springs; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Charles Harper of Vacaville and Nancy Allen- Jones and Greg  Jones of Anchorage, Ala.; brother, Roy Williams of Noblesville, Ind.; sister, Zadine Dishongh of Batesville, Ark.; grandchildren, Leslie Harper and Hamilton Harper, both of Vacaville, Lindsay  Jones of Anchorage, Ala., and Jason Harper of Fayetteville, Ark.; nieces; nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Williams; and a sister, Pearl Williams.

Contributions may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church, New Life Youth Group or Golden Empire Council Boy Scouts of America.

John P. Davis

Visitation and funeral services for John P. Davis, 81, will be held privately in the Nadeau Family Funeral Home in Vacaville.

Mr. Davis was born on Nov. 11, 1915, in Richmond and died Oct. 6, 1997, in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Davis lived in Vacaville for 10 years. He previously lived in Carson City, Nev. He worked for 25 years as a truck driver for Griffin Lumber of El Cerrito and for three years as a bus driver for Greyhound. He studied the Bible with Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.

He is survived by his wife, Edith of Vacaville, daughter, Darlene Bascou of Los Angeles; stepdaughter, Linda Ortiz of Vacaville; brothers, Joe Davis of Eureka and Mervin Davis of Richmond; sisters, Mary Beale of Springfield, Ore., and Kathryn Cleland of El Cerrito; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Marie Kidd

Funeral services for Dorothy Marie Kidd, 68, of Fairfield will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 601 Whispering Bay Lane in Suisun.

The Rev. Claybon Lea will officiate. Interment will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Jan. 23, 1929, in Greensboro, Ga., she died Oct. 3, 1997, at her home.

A 30-year resident of Fairfield, Mrs. Kidd worked with learning disabled students in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, then for Lloyd's Tax Service as a tax preparer from 1976 until 1982. For the next 15 years, she was a manager for Specialty Tax Service.

She was active with church and community sporting activities, including Little League and Fairfield Expos.

She was a member of the WMU/Women's Ministries Naomi Circle, where she served as the devotional leader. She was a longtime member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Suisun and was actively involved in the Women's Mission Choir.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home at 1850 West  Texas St. in Fairfield.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Dominique of Fairfield; sons, Barry of Fort Eustis, Va., and Edward and Nathaniel Jr. of Fairfield; and sister, Edna W. Burroughs of Dawson, Ga.; and 13 grandchildren.

Her husband, Nathaniel Kidd Sr., preceded her in death in 1984.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 601 Whispering Bay Lane.

Kenneth E. Myelle

A memorial service for Kenneth E. Myelle, 69, of Vacaville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Loyal Order of the Moose, Vacaville Lodge No. 1967, 6585 Gibson Canyon Road.

Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Watford City, N.D., Mr. Myelle died Oct. 7, 1997, in Vallejo after a brief illness.

Mr. Myelle was in the Air Force for 20 years, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He owned and operated his own trucking business in Vacaville for five years.

He also worked at Kaiser Steel in Vallejo for several years.

Mr. Myelle also sold real estate for several years in Vacaville and Fairfield with Century 21, O'Ryan Realtors and Help-U-Sell Realty.

Mr. Myelle was an avid sports fan and was very involved in his grandchildren's sports.

He had a private and commercial pilot's license and enjoyed flying immensely.

He was also a member of the Vacaville Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge No. 1967, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Edna of Vacaville; daughter, Karen Chase of Vacaville; sons, Clifford, Don Silva and Keith Silva, all of Vacaville; brother, Orville Helle of Westminster,  Colo.; aunt, Estella Stavin of Watford City, N.D.; grandson, Michael Silva of Vacaville; and granddaughters, Terrina Chicchetti and Della Silva, both of Vacaville.

He was preceded in death by his son Kevin Silva.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, care of Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Ave., Vacaville 95688, or to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.
