Jack T. Merrick

Graveside services for Jack T. Merrick, 70, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Bill Turgurn will officiate. Interment will follow the funeral in the cemetery.

His family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. today in the Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Born on Oct. 26, 1927, in Utah, Mr. Merrick died in his Vacaville home on Nov. 4, 1997, after a long illness.

A Vacaville resident for the past 48 years, he had been a self-employed contractor, owning M & H Roofing for 40 years.

He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Second Ward, and the Vacaville Moose Lodge.

Mr. Merrick is survived by his wife, Marlene; sons, Robert and Jack, both of Vacaville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Rev. David Neal McNanna

A Catholic Mass of the Resurrection will be held for the Rev. David Neal McNanna, (O.Carm.), 64, of Fairfield at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Fairfield.

Burial will be in Peabody, Mass.

Born Oct. 30, 1933, in Pawtucket, R.I., he died Nov. 4, 1997, in Fairfield, where he had lived five years.

He was a priest and associate pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel for nearly five years, and was described as always being the "first one there" when any parishioners were ill as well as make follow-up inquiries.

He joined the Carmelite Order and made his first church vows on Sept. 3, 1952. His solemn vows followed three years later. He was ordained a priest May 23, 1959.

The Rev. McNanna had several teaching assignments, including at Our ("Our" means Carmelite Order) Junior Seminary in Hamilton, Mass., and Our High School in Tucson, Ariz. He also did parish work in New Jersey and in Houston, plus the church in Fairfield.

He also spent some years at Our Shopping Mall Chapel in Peabody, Mass., saying Mass, hearing confessions and counseling those needing help.

He enjoyed the Fairfield area and had been planning to retire there in 1999. He was known as a quiet and private person who would be a friend for life and had a gift of remembering names.

The Rev. McNanna is survived by his brother, Raymond of Milford, Mass., and sisters, Jocelyn O'Neil of Warwick, R.I., Katherine Kells of Pittsford, N.Y., and Ilene Johnston of Prince Edward Island, Canada.

A rosary vigil will be 7:30 p.m. Friday in the church.

Visitation will be noon until the vigil Friday, also in the church.

Arrangements are being handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Bruce R. Nelson

Memorial services for Bruce R. Nelson, 71, of Fairfield will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Fairfield.

Elders Wally Sims and Ed Rios will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Born April 5, 1926, in Gooding, Idaho, Mr. Nelson died Oct. 30, 1997, in Fairfield after a short illness.

Mr. Nelson lived in Fairfield for seven years after being a resident of Oroville.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a longshoreman and retired mechanic for Sealand Trucking Co., and had been a rodeo cowboy. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the American Association of Retired People.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Dena Roach of Colorado Springs,  Colo.; stepdaughters, Paula Rowbury of San Francisco and Laurie Hillebert and Karen Hovale of Fairfield; stepson, Todd Hovole of Fairfield; and four grandchildren.

Friends are welcome to join a gathering at the family residence from 4 to 6 p.m., prior to the memorial service.

A memorial contribution may be made to the Disaster Relief Fund, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1651 Sunset Ave., Fairfield.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

David Price

A memorial service for infant David Price of Vacaville will be private with the family.

The Rev. Joseph Prudhomme will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Born in Fairfield, the boy was 3 hours old when he died in NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

He is survived by his parents, David and Sally of Vacaville; maternal grandparents, Merle and Gloria Meeter of El Cajon, and paternal grandparents, Jim Price of San Jose and Anna Price of Lathrop.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Louis Gustav Usiak

Graveside services for Louis Gustav Usiak, 84, of Vallejo will be 2 p.m. Monday in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine.

Born June 13, 1913, in Muskegon Heights, Mich., he died Oct. 31, 1997, in his Vallejo home after a short illness.

He lived in Vallejo for 65 years.

Mr. Usiak was a construction worker for 10 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had been a recipient of the Purple Heart medal.

He won national honors in mathematical puzzles, was a lifetime member of the National Geographic Society, and enjoyed fishing and horse racing.

Mr. Usiak is survived by his sister, Alice of San Francisco; and nieces, Arlene Radi of Napa and Carmen Witt of West Hartford, Conn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel, and sisters, Ludmila and Anna in Europe.

Pamela Dell Davis

Memorial services for Pamela Dell Davis, 51, of Fairfield will be at 2 p.m. today at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St., Fairfield.

Pastor Jack Barker of Pacheco's Gospel Light Temple will officiate. Inurnment in Fairmont Memorial Park will be private.

Born on May 17, 1946, in Richmond, Mrs. Davis died Nov. 4, 1997, after a short illness.

A home health aide and nurse's aide for Kaiser Hospice in Martinez and The V.N.A. Hospice in Benicia, she was also a member of the Gospel Light Temple of Pacheco. She loved travel, the beach and dance.

She is survived by daughters, Heidi and Christine Rardin of Fairfield; sisters, Debra L. Michelbook of Pittsburg, Annette L. Bartolomei of Martinez,; brother, Terry G. Tallman of  Oklahoma; grandchildren, Brooklyn Rae Rardin and Ivy Renea Rardin of Fairfield; seven nephews; and a niece.

Lourdes D. Lagdamen

A Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday for Lourdes D. Lagdamen, 74, of Fairfield in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fairfield.

The Rev. Sebastian Meyer will officiate. Entombment in Fairmont Memorial Park, Fairfield, will be private.

Born Feb. 11, 1923, in Iloilo City, Philippine Islands, she died Nov. 6, 1997, in Roseville, after a short illness.

She lived in Fairfield for 17 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Legion of Mary in the Philippines and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Fairfield.

Mrs. Lagdamen is survived by son, Hernando of Fairfield; daughters, Marilyn Planas of Dixon, Sadra of Guam, Lovena Lalor of Fairfield, Melourd Springer of Roseville and Annabelle Panganiban of Fairfield; 14 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

A rosary vigil will be 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Florabelle Patricia McCrary

Graveside services for Florabelle Patricia McCrary, 74, of Fairfield were held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

The Rev. Michael Downey of Fairfield's Holy Spirit Catholic Church officiated. A burial followed the service.

Born on Jan. 23, 1923, in Cloquet, Minn., Mrs. McCrary died Nov. 3, 1997, at the Fairfield Health Care Center after a long illness.

A Fairfield resident for 10 years, she was a homemaker for 20 years.

Mrs. McCrary is survived her husband, Gene of Fairfield; daughters, Deborah Sanderson of Hawaii and Marilyn Brown of  South Carolina; stepsons, Robert of Fairfield and William of New Orleans; sister, Ardelle Hill, of Cloquet, Minn.; brothers, Joe, Dick and Jack Randall, also of Cloquet; grandson Kyle Brown of  South Carolina; granddaughter, Kimberly Sanderson of Hawaii; and step-grandson, Robert of Fairfield.

James R. 'Jim Bob' Shaffer

Visitation for James R. "Jim Bob" Shaffer, 75, of American Canyon will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday in the Napa Valley Memorial Park Chapel.

The Rev. Mark Pickett will officiate. Mr. Shaffer will be interred at Napa Valley Memorial Park.

Born Nov. 7, 1921, in Denning, Ark., he died Nov. 5, 1997, at home after a brief illness.

He married Frances Sampley Shaffer on Oct. 27, 1949.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Vacaville Moose Lodge, the Widowed Persons Club and the Boilermakers Union.

He was a bowler and bowled in various leagues. But his true passion was gardening and would spend hours gardening vegetables at the Community Gardens.

He worked for Kaiser Steel as a welder for 14 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Janice Horton of Concord and Judy Horton of Vallejo; sons, Jim Shaffer of American Canyon and Jerry Shaffer of Napa; brothers, Don of Concord and Gus, Alfred, Huston and Will, all of Ozark, Ark.; and 10 grandchildren.

Crystal Michelle Linsenbigler

There will be private family services and inurnment for Crystal Michelle Linsenbigler, 5 months, of Vacaville.

Born June 2, 1997, the infant died Nov. 7, 1997, in Vacaville of sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS.

The girl is survived by her parents, Michael and Janette of Vacaville; sisters, Kaila and Julian of Vacaville; brothers, Mikel and Austin of Vacaville; grandparents, Dutch of Elmira, John Wolfe of Oregon, and Yoshiko Phillips of Florida; aunts, Sonia of Elmira, Beth Wilson of Virginia and Cindy of California; and uncles, Jason Wolfe of Florida and Johnny Wolfe of  Washington.

There will be private visitation.

Arrangements are handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Edna Claris Blackwood

At her request, no services will be held for Edna Claris Blackwood, 79, of Vacaville.

Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Blackwood died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, in VacaValley Hospital after a short illness.

Born Aug. 8, 1918, in Sedgwick, Kan., she moved to Vacaville six years ago. She was a waitress for 10 years.

She is survived by her son, Craig, and grandson, Raymond, both of Vacaville.

Arrangements are being handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.
