Ret. Lt. Col. Eleanore Clara Disbrow

Ret. Lt. Col. Eleanore Clara "Bee" Disbrow died at her Vacaville home Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, after a long battle with lung cancer. Funeral services and interment will be in Chicago, Ill.

Born Oct. 20, 1920, in Chicago, she attended Catholic schools and graduated from Sisters of Nazareth School of Nursing in 1941 before joining the U.S. Public Health Service.

Shortly after Pearl Harbor was bombed, Mrs. Disbrow entered the Army Nurse Corps and was commissioned as a first lieutenant. In 1944, she was assigned to the European Theater of Operations with duty in England.

Following the Normandy invasion, she was assigned to a mobile field hospital unit under the command of Lt. Gen. George S. Patton, Jr.

After the end of World War II, Mrs. Disbrow returned to civilian life and the U.S. Public Health Service. But several years later, she was recalled to active duty with the new Air Force and applied for flight nurse training.

She served at Air Force bases across the country, including Travis.

She married Lt. Col. Donald W. Disbrow at Travis on Sept. 1, 1956, and they retired from active duty together on June 1, 1966.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Beatrice Labno, and a brother, Raymond S. Brodzinski, both of Chicago.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fisher House at David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base.

Arrangements are being handled by McCune Garden Chapel.

Marissa N. Walker

Graveside services for Marissa Nicole Walker, 11 days old, of Vacaville will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

The Rev. Lester Seto of Bethany Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow the services.

Marissa died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, in NorthBay Hospital in Fairfield. She was born Oct. 29, 1997, in Fairfield.

She is survived by her mother, Annette Walker of Vacaville; grandparents, Robert and Idell Walker of Vacaville; uncle, Norman Walker of Sacramento; and uncle and aunt, Phillip and Cheryl Walker of Salinas.

Memorial contributions may be made to NorthBay Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit.

Arrangements are being handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

German B. Abalos

A Mass of Christian Burial for German B. Abalos, 75, of Fairfield will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate.

A rosary is planned at 7 p.m. Thursday, with visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Mr. Abalos died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, after suffering a heart attack at work in Cordelia. Born Oct. 30, 1922, in Canaoalan, Binmaleoy, Philippines, he moved to Fairfield from the Philippines in 1984.

He worked for the Benguet Consolidation Mining Company in the Philippines for 37 years and worked for Heinz Nursery in Vacaville from 1984 to 1990. He had worked as a custodian and dishwasher at Jason's Coffee Shop in Cordelia since 1990.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Legion of Mary Auxiliary, Canaoalan U.S.A. Association and the Pioneer Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Fairfield; daughters, Elsa Ornido and Estella Cabalzaze of the Philippines and Virginia Coppuz, Esther Abalos, Mila Abalos and Gemma Abalos of San Diego; sons, Rhay Abalos of San Diego, German Abalos and Edwin Abalos of the Philippines; sister, Cresencia Marquez of Fairfield; 23 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in the United States and the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his son, Juanito Abalos.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Beatrice A. Dick

A graveside service will be held for Beatrice A. Dick, 58, of Vacaville at 2 p.m. Friday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Oct. 3, 1939, in  Pennsylvania, she died Nov. 9, 1997, in Vacaville after a short illness.

She lived in Vacaville for 25 years and worked as a newspaper distributor for The Reporter and the Sacramento Bee.

Mrs. Dick is survived by her husband, Jack; son, Dwayne of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Clay Dart of Madera; mother, Virginia Shaffer of Redding; sisters, Kathy Imboden of San Jose and Irene Miller of Redding; brother, Richard of Hemet; daughter-in-law, Danielle Miller of Vacaville, and grandchildren, Michelle and Jennifer Dart of Madera and Dalton and Demi Miller of Vacaville.

Arrangements are by Milton Carpenter Funeral Home of Dixon.

Gertrude Gray Fassero

A private burial service will be held for Gertrude Gray Fassero, 90, of Vacaville.

Born Aug. 18, 1907, in Oakland, she died Nov. 3, 1997, at her home in Vacaville.

Mrs. Fassero was a Vacaville resident for 20 years and previously lived in Concord. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, ceramics, jewelry making and travel.

Mrs. Fassero is survived by her brother-in-law, Anthony of Walnut Creek; sister, Louise N. Weishar of Vacaville; and niece, Ann Peterson of Eureka.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert.

Memorial contributions may be made to hospice or the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are handled by  Schmidt & Dixon Funeral Home in Richmond.

Claudia Eleanor Bower

A memorial service for Claudia Eleanor Bower, 83, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2075 Dover Ave., Fairfield.

The Rev. Martin Bergstrom will officiate. Interment was private.

Born Dec. 28, 1913, in Dwight, Livingston County, Ill., Mrs. Bower died Nov. 9, 1997, in Fairfield after a short illness.

She was a 33-year resident of Fairfield and worked as a medical secretary in Illinois and other locations for a number of years. She was a secretary to the American Red Cross in Tucson, Ariz., and Travis Air Force Base for 20 years.

Mrs. Bower is survived by her husband, Eugene of Fairfield; son, Eugene Lewis of Suisun; brothers, Wayne Decker of Springfield, Ill., and David Decker of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento 95817.

Arrangements are handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Grace Eleanor Comber

Funeral services for Grace Eleanor Comber, 77, of Dixon will be 11 a.m. today at the Dixon United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Catharine Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Silveyville Dixon Cemetery.

Born Aug. 10, 1920, Mrs. Comber died Nov. 10, 1997, after a long illness.

She was a longtime member of the Dixon United Methodist Church and the Dixon Rebekahs.

She is survived by her son, David B. Comber of Dixon; daughter, Grace Vargas of Salinas; brother, William McGinnis; granddaughters, Cynthia Williams of Tacoma, Wash., Lori Peake of Reno, Kelly Tourville of Auburn; grandson, Russell Porter of Salinas; great-grandson, Christopher Peake of Reno; great-granddaughter, Courtney Peake of Reno; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Road, Vacaville 95688.

Helen Wilde Harris

Graveside services for Helen Wilde Harris will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Mrs. Harris, 72, died Nov. 12, 1997 at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield after a long illness. She was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Payton, Utah, and moved to Vacaville 31 years ago.

She and her husband owned and operated the Vacaville Drug Company. Mrs. Harris was active in the community, serving on the library commission and other community committees.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband, Boyd; daughter, Kaye Ellen Harris Kelley; sons, Mark and Craig; eight grandchildren; sisters, Jackie Webber of Sacramento and Diane Wilde of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, Richard Wilde of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Mrs. Harris was a lifetime member of the Soroptimist Club of Vacaville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vacaville Soroptimists Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 6054, Vacaville 95696-6054.

Evelyn McAteer

A burial for Evelyn McAteer, 86, of Vacaville will be at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood. At her request, no formal services will be held.

Born April 2, 1911, in California Mrs. McAteer died Nov. 11, 1997, in the Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.

A resident of Vacaville since 1990, she was a homemaker for 66 years and a member of the Leisure Town Yoga Club.

Mrs. McAteer is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Lottie McAteer of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Gary Lane of Great Falls, Mont.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jan McAteer of Mammoth; brother, Charles R. Henning of Lompoc; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester E. McAteer in 1974 and her son, Charles D. McAteer in 1997.

Myrtle Lee Rose

At her request, no funeral services are planned for Myrtle Lee Rose, 78, of Vacaville.

Interment will be in Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito.

Mrs. Rose died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, in Vacaville. A native of Altus, Okla., she had lived in Vacaville for 18 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Glena Hofbauer; sons, Wayne Rose, Bob Dill and Tom Dill; grandson, Troy Hofbauer; granddaughter, Teresa Phelan; sister, Opal Spradlin; brother, Blackie Ledbetter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clemie E. Rose, and grandson, Steven Hofbauer.

Arrangements are being handled by Sunset View Mortuary and Cemetery.

Harriet Louise Sullivan

A memorial service for Harriet Louise Sullivan, 73, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Inurnment will be private.

The Rev. Linda Regan of Clayton Valley Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Born Oct. 11, 1924, in Virginia, Mrs. Sullivan died Oct. 24 in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

She was a homemaker for more than 33 years and lived in the Vacaville area for several years. She enjoyed cooking and people.

Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her husband, Lester of Vacaville; son, David W. King of Fairfield; sister, Ruth Arakelin of Turlock; brothers, Earl Brown of Hayward and Hank Borwn of West Palm Beach, Fla., and grandson, Skylar King of Fairfield.

A memorial contribution may be made to The Presbyterian Home, 150 Linden Ave., Lynchburg, Va., 24503.

Garry L. and Tammy A. Currier

Funeral services for Garry Lee Currier, 3, and Tammy Ann Currier, 23 months, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Funeral Home.

The Rev. Gary Hill of Living Waters Outreach Ministry will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Born May 31, 1994, in Vallejo, Garry Lee died Nov. 9, 1997, at Oakland Children's Hospital following a home fire.

Born Nov. 15, 1995, in Vallejo, Tammy died Nov. 8, 1997, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield following a home fire.

They are survived by their parents, Garry and Penny Currier of Fairfield; maternal grandparent, Betty Bruce of San Pablo; paternal grandparents, Richard and Margaret Tolson of California City; half-sister, Michelle Lipps of Suisun City; maternal great-grandparents, Carl and Mary Weaver of San Pablo; and paternal great-grandparents, Louis and Juanita Tolson of Vincennes, Ind.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fairfield Funeral Home.
