Mike 'Mac' Zupo

A Catholic prayer service will be held on Friday to remember Mike "Mac" Zupo, 89, who died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, after a short illness.

Mr. Zupo was born in Vacaville on Oct. 25, 1908, and lived here all his life. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years and was an avid baseball player with his own team, The Zupos.

He is survived by son, Danny, and daughter-in-law Donna of Vacaville; three grandchildren, Danielle, Jennifer and Joshua, of Vacaville; brothers, Jim of Oregon and Sam of Los Angeles. He is also survived by his former wife, Maiana of Vacaville and numerous nephews and nieces.

The prayer service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at McCune Garden Chapel. Father Benedict Deleon of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate.

Richard J. Gerhardt

Funeral services for Richard J. Gerhardt will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 300 West St. in Vacaville.

The Rev. Stephen J. Leonetti will officiate.

Mr. Gerhardt, 76, died Friday, Nov. 21, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinez after a long illness.

He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in San Francisco, lived in Peoria, Ariz., for 20 years and moved to Fairfield a year before his death.

Mr. Gerhardt was raised in Chico and graduated from Chico High School before entering the Army Air Corps. He served in the United States Air Force for more than 30 years and was a decorated veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona in 1972. He was awarded the Purple Heart with two oak clusters and the Meritorious Service Award with oak leaf.

He is survived by his daughter, Marie Lester; son, Rich and daughter-in-law Kaye Gerhardt of Vacaville; and sister, Suzanne Steinwert of Gold River. He is also survived by three grandchildren - Lester, Jennifer and Benjamin.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dick and Betty Memorial Scholarship, Glendale Community College, 6000 W. Olive Ave., Glendale, Ariz., 85302.

Ray Rossi

A memorial service for Ray Rossi, 91, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Burial will be private in St. Helena.

Born March 10, 1906, in St. Helena, Mr. Rossi died Nov. 23, 1997, at Kaiser Medical Center in Vallejo after a long illness. He was a resident of Fairfield for nearly 30 years.

Mr. Rossi was the owner and operator of the Rachael Rossi Vineyard with his sister, Louise. The legacy left by his parents still gives to local history in the area.

Mr. Rossi's family has annually offered a scholarship for young valley residents graduating from Napa County high schools who wish to pursue studies in viticulture or enology administered by the University of California, Davis. Mr. Rossi was a graduate of UC Davis.

He is a member of the Ace in the Hole Club in Rutherford, Napa County Farm Bureau, and UC Davis Alumni.

Mr. Rossi is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Fairfield; stepsons, Thomas Hannigan of Suisun City and Patrick Hannigan of Northern California; sister, Louise of St. Helena; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ruth Belford Dayton

A memorial service for Ruth Belford Dayton, 85, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Vacaville. The Rev. Steven Leonetti will preside.

Born Nov. 26, 1911, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Dayton died Nov. 24, 1997, at her home.

She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Anne and Marilyn Bond, both of Vacaville; son, Mike of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Deacon's Fund, Community Presbyterian Church, 425 Hemlock St., 95688.

Beth Carol Baumblatt

Memorial services for Beth Carol Baumblatt, 49, of Fairfield, will be 2 p.m. today at Donavan's Center, 1235 Union St., Fairfield.

Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo.

Born Oct. 16, 1948, in Racine, Wisc., Mrs. Baumblatt died Nov. 20, 1997, at a Fairfield hospital after a short illness.

A Fairfield resident for 24 years, Mrs. Baumblatt was a four-year employee and patient advocate at Solano Mental Health.

She worked for the Red Cross and served in Vietnam and Germany. She also worked for Solano Girl Scouts and was a substitute teacher.

She is survived by brothers, Mike, Don and Glenn.

Arrangements are by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Miriam M. Tutwiler

Miriam M. Tutwiler, 88, a 10-year resident of Vacaville, died Nov. 26, 1997.

Upon her request, there will be no formal services.

Born Jan. 9, 1909, in New York, Mrs. Tutwiler died at NorthBay Nursing Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Tutwiler moved to Los Angeles in 1938 and became a music copiest. She lived in Vacaville the past 10 years.

Mrs. Tutwiler is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Ron Philip; granddaughters, Holly Philip and Christine Landis; son-in-law, Tim Landis; and great-grandchildren, Timothy, Nicholas and Megan.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Thomas, who died 12 years ago.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W.  Texas St., Suite 100, Fairfield 94533; or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa 95402.

Arrangements are by Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley.

William B. Ebbert

A private inurnment will be held for William B. Ebbert, 83, of Vacaville.

No formal services are planned.

Born March 1, 1914, in Twin Falls, Idaho, Mr. Ebbert died Nov. 26, 1997, in Vacaville following a sudden illness.

He was a shipfitter at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 30 years. He was a Vallejo resident for 50 years.

Mr. Ebbert is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Pam of Vacaville; daughter, Marilee Swails of Napa; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel.

Steven Charles Franks

Funeral services for Steven Charles Franks, 44, of Dixon will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Benedict DeLeon will preside. Burial will follow at the Silveyville Cemetery in Dixon.

Born July 22, 1953, in Woodland, Mr. Franks died Nov. 25, 1997, after a long battle with cancer. He was a Dixon resident for 27 years.

Mr. Franks worked at the Veterinarian Medical Teaching Hospital of the University of California, Davis, for the past 13 years. He was an active member of Bids for Kids and a leader of Maine Prairie 4-H.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors.

Mr. Franks is survived by his wife of 25 years, Letty; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Ana Crittenden of Dixon and John and Sandi Gullock of Veldosta, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Mike Mendes of Ceres; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ramon and Socorro Cervantes of Dixon; brothers-in-law, Ramon Jr. and Alfredo Cervantes, both of Dixon; brothers, Bill Cusack of Fairfield, Gary of Dixon and Kevin of Marysville; sister, Rita Morrison of Fairfield; father and stepmother, Edwin and Esther of Marysville; stepfather, Bud Gebelin of Suisun City; grandmother, Hazel Rigney of Dixon; and daughter, Stephanie of Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Gebelin; grandfather, Charles Rigney; and sister, Brenda.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the McCune Garden Chapel.

George Edward Sipes

Funeral services for George Edward Sipes, 75, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

A member of the Royal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 861 will preside. Burial will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Aug. 1, 1922, in York, Penn., Mr. Sipes died Nov. 24, 1997, in Fairfield after a short illness.

A resident of Fairfield for 30 years, he served 25 years in the Air Force and was a technical sergeant. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 10 years.

Mr. Sipes was a member of the Past Governor of Royal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 861, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2333, Suisun Lodge No. 55 F&AM, and Elks Lodge No. 1976.

Mr. Sipes is survived by his wife, Eve of Fairfield; daughters, Gwen Jordan and Shelley Harteau, both of Fairfield, Sandra Peiffer of Dover, Penn., and Sharon Yarnell of York, Penn.; sons, Ty Steward of Sacramento, Scott Steward of Reno, Nev., and Edward of Wrightsville, Penn.; brother, Millard of York, Penn.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

John Lum

John Lum, 74, a lifelong resident of Vacaville, died Nov. 23, 1997, in Vacaville after a long illness.

No formal services will be held.

Mr. Lum was born Jan. 3, 1923, in San Francisco. He graduated from Vacaville High School in 1941 and entered the Navy during World War II. He studied agriculture at University of California, Davis, and was an area farmer for many years. He worked in civil service for 30 years at Travis Air Force Base.

Mr. Lum is survived by his wife, Beverly of Vacaville; sons, John G. of Vacaville and Robert S. of Walnut Creek; daughter, Julie M. Dere of Carmel, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are handled by McCune Garden Chapel.

Peter Stanley Zamoyta

Memorial services for Peter Stanley Zamoyta, 68, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Inurnment will be at Rockville Cemetery in Suisun City.

Born Aug. 21, 1929, in Norwich, Conn., Mr. Zamoyta died Nov. 27, 1997, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

Mr. Zamoyta served in the Army 1948 to 1950, and lived in Fairfield for 40 years. He worked with the California Highway Patrol as a brake inspection specialist for 10 years at the Cordelia Truck Weigh Station. He owned and operated Stan's Texaco and later Stan's Exxon for the past 25 years.

He was a member of BPOE Fairfield Lodge No. 1976, Loyal Order of the Moose Fairfield Lodge No 861, and National Rifle Association. He was a life member of the California Waterfowl Association, and was an honorary member of the Native Sons of the Golden West-Solano Parlor No. 39.

Mr. Zamoyta is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Fred Weber of Fairfield; son and daughter-in-law, Staush and Anna of Fairfield; brother, Richard of Cherry Valley, Mass.; and grandsons, Eric Jon Weber, Bryan Morgan Weber, and Staush Peter, all of Fairfield.

Barbara B. Taliaferro

Memorial services for Barbara B. Taliaferro, 77, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Grace Episcopal Church at First and Kentucky streets in Fairfield.

The Rev. John Duncan will officiate.

There will be a private inurnment at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield.

Mrs. Taliaferro died Nov. 26, 1997, at her home after a long illness.

Born March 13, 1920, in England, Mrs. Taliaferro lived 40 years in Fairfield. Mrs. Taliaferro worked as a civil service secretary for six years until 1952 and taught piano in Fairfield from 1958 to 1970. She was a Welcome Wagon hostess from 1977 to 1990.

Mrs. Taliaferro was an active of the Women's Division of the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce and served as the northern vice president of the California Women's Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Vallejo-Fairfield District 21 Games Bridge Club. She also was a member of the Cypress Lakes Golf Club.

Mrs. Taliaferro is survived by her daughter, Donna Atkinson of Fairfield; son, William of Vallejo; brothers, Roy Boniwell of Howick, South Africa, and Colin Boniwell of Hornchurch, England; and grandchildren, Hayden Smith, Katie Atkinson, and Hillary Smith, all of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1995.

Memorial contributions can be made to the NorthBay Hospice, 1200 B. Gale Wilson Blvd., Fairfield 94533.
