Sharon Kaye Mosher

Funeral services for Sharon Kaye Mosher, 48, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home in Vacaville.

Bishop Paul Hom of the First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Born June 2, 1949, in Yankton, S.C., Mrs. Mosher died Jan. 16, 1998, at her home in Vacaville after a brief illness. She lived in Vacaville for the past 11 years.

Mrs. Mosher had been a collection agent employed by such firms as Clorox, Berkeley Pump Company CMX in  Washington state, and several firms in Denver for 15 years.

She particularly enjoyed writing to a pal in Ukraine.

Mrs. Mosher is survived by her husband, Thomas of Vacaville; daughter, Elizabeth of Vacaville; son, Brice of Vacaville; mother, Louise Valasek of Kenai, Alaska; sister, Janet Scanlon of Vancouver, Wash.; and brother, James Matuszewicz of Mobley, Mo.

Contributions may be made to the Sky Ranch for Boys, Sky Ranch Lane, Sky Ranch, S.D.

Geraldine 'Gerry' Paterson

Memorial services for Mrs. Geraldine "Gerry" Paterson, 77, of Linden, Mich., were held in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Belleview, Fla.

Mrs. Paterson was interred on Jan. 15, 1998, in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ocala, Fla.

Mrs. Paterson died Dec. 26, 1997, in Linden after a long illness.

Born July, 24, 1920, in Detroit, she owned and operated Town & Country Beauty Salon and Lady of Fashion in Fairfield. She also owned and operated Leisure Town & Country in Vacaville with her late husband, Pat, for many years until the couple retired to Florida in 1978.

She spent the last six years of her life in Genesy's Hospice Care Center in Linden.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in law, Marylin and Jerome Dumanois of Linden; son and daughter-in-law, Hank and Lorraine Clauss of Florida; grandchildren, Stacey, Shannon and Chance Clauss of Florida; sister, Donna Harper of  Texas; many grandchildren; and special friends, Ann and Dick Beale of Vacaville.

Theodore V. 'Ted' Spangler

A private family service was held for Theodore V. "Ted" Spangler, 86, who died in VacaValley Hospital on Jan. 13, 1998, after a short illness.

Born in Chicago and raised in Milwaukee, Mr. Spangler moved to Los Angeles at age 12, where he graduated from high school and worked at a variety of jobs. He owned and operated a soda fountain and worked as an auto mechanic.

He joined the Marine Corps reserves and used those skills to obtain parts as an extra in motion pictures including "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "Gone with the Wind."

During World War II, he served at March and Gowen fields, and he achieved the rank of warrant officer in the Army Air Corps. At Gowen Field he helped start the Link Trainer program, which he also instructed and supervised.

He met his first wife, Charlotte Marr, while he was there. They married June 24, 1943.

After the war, Spangler settled in Boise, establishing the Lindsey Soft Water Company in Idaho. He was active in the chamber of commerce and was founding director of the Boise Better Business Bureau. He owned the Townhouse Apartments, the Dairy Drive-In and was a commercial real estate agent. He opened five bookstores.

His first wife died in October 1979, and he married June Allin-Marr on April 14, 1984. Together they were courier for the Idaho Lions Eye Bank, as Spangler was a charter member of the Boise Monarch Lions Club. They introduced carpet bowling to Boise's seniors and created and marketed Geo/Derby, an educational geography game.

In 1993, the couple moved to California, where he actively spent the last years of his life. Together they organized and chartered the Vacaville Monarch Lions Club, and they later transferred to the Vaca Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, June; sons, Ted, Doug and Jim; daughters, Ruth and Sharon Spangler and Jill Emigh; seven stepchildren, including Jody Nash of Fairfield; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lions Project for Canine Companions for Independence or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were handled by the Neptune Society of Northern California.

Lawrence 'Jack' Wheeler

The family of Lawrence "Jack" Wheeler will hold a service to celebrate his life at 7 p.m. Friday in the board room of the administration building at Solano Community College in Suisun.

Mr. Wheeler, 64, died at home in Vallejo on Jan. 13, 1998, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Santa Rosa on Aug. 15, 1933.

He became a quadraplegic at age 16, when he injured himself diving into the Russian River, but his family said he never let his disability stand in his way.

He worked as a professional photographer from 1959 until 1968 and enjoyed photography throughout his life. He earned his bachelor's degree at Sonoma State University in 1972 and his master's degree at Fresno State University in 1974.

Mr. Wheeler worked at Solano Community College as a professor and counselor from 1975 until 1996 and was a counselor for the State Teachers Association in Santa Rosa in 1974 and 1975.

Mr. Wheeler is survived by his mother, Minnie Forrester of Vallejo; sisters and brothers-in law, Sharon and Rudy Sauls, and Carolyn and John Orcutt of Santa Rosa; niece Karen Brooks, her husband Rob, and their son Matthew of Graton; nephew Cary Sauls and his wife Cari of Petaluma; niece Tammy Lang and her sons Christopher Tucker and Tyler Williams; niece Rebecca Sauls of Santa Rosa and nephew Jeffrey Billings of Santa Rosa. Mr. Wheeler also had several aunts, one uncle and numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Solano Community Memorial Scholarship Fund in Mr. Wheeler's name.

Arrangements are by the Neptune Society.

Esther Marie Cool

Funeral services for Esther Marie Cool, 65, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel in Vacaville.

Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Aug. 26, 1932, in Mason Town, Pa., Mrs. Cool died Jan. 20, 1998, in VacaValley Hospital after an illness.

Mrs. Cool moved to Vacaville 18 years ago and was a homemaker for 47 years. She enjoyed fishing, golf, pinochle and dancing. She also was an avid bowler.

Mrs. Cool is survived by her husband, Donald of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Doug Heckman of Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Helen DeMaria of Stuebenville, Ohio; and grandsons, Justin and Scott Heckman, both of Tempe, Ariz.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles Keith Jacobe Sr.

Graveside services for Charles Keith Jacobe Sr., 62, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Friday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery in Vacaville.

Burial will follow.

Mr. Jacobe died Jan. 19, 1998, in Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo after a long illness.

Born April 23, 1935, in Topeka, Kan., he moved to the area 39 years ago. He served in the Air Force for 10 years and is a veteran of the Korean War. He was an auto mechanic for 30 years, working mostly for Barber Chevy and Buick in Vallejo.

He loved camping and hunting, and was a member of the Cliffhangers Four-Wheel Drive Club in Solano and Yolo counties.

He is survived by his daughter, Dena Danner of Vacaville; son, Charles Jr. of Vacaville; ex-wife, Linda of Vacaville; sisters, Juanita Shotts of Kansas and Merlene Walters of Wisconsin; brothers, Floyd Jr. of Michigan and Bob of Nebraska; and grandchildren, Charles III and Ashton Tyler, both of Vacaville.

Arrangements are handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Cecile A. Kitt

A Catholic prayer service for Cecile A. Kitt, 77, of Dixon will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon.

The Rev. Maurice O'Brien of St. Peter's Catholic Church will officiate. Burial in Silveyville Cemetery will follow Friday's service.

Born Nov. 22, 1920, in Sterling,  Colo., she died Jan. 20, 1998, in Davis after a long illness.

She devoted 51 years of her life to homemaking and being a mother.

She is survived by her husband, George of Dixon; sons, Gerald of Santa Rosa, James of San Jose, Larry of Denver and Bruce of San Jose; daughter, Susan Stewart of Clayton; and sisters, Jo Ballinger of  Texas and Walbergia Schadegg of Sterling,  Colo.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home,

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Joan Hopper Lopez

A memorial service for Joan Hopper Lopez, 64, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

The Rev. Ed Sanderson of Church of Christ in Vacaville and the Rev. Doug Gonzalez of Virginia will officiate.

Born Aug. 20, 1933, in Wewoka, Okla., Mrs. Lopez died Jan. 18, 1998, in Vacaville after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Lopez lived in Vacaville for 55 years. She was a devoted homemaker for 45 years and enjoyed spending time with her brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Lopez is survived by her husband of 45 years, Joe ("Barber Joe"); son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Genny Lopez of Vacaville; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Gary Grant, and Janice and Steve Bera, all of Vacaville; grandchildren, Jana and Jake Werner, Jessica, Japhia and Jeneya Bera, all of Vacaville; step-grandchildren, Amber and Kelly Murphy and Jason and Mark Grant, all of Vacaville; brothers, Jim, Jerry, Doyle and Jack Hopper; sisters, Billie Caldwell, Judy Gregorich and Jonni Gonzalez, all of Vacaville; and mother, Vicie Hopper of Vacaville.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Hopper, and sisters, Deon Wareham and Vikki Hopper.

Daniel H. Muller

Longtime county schools Trustee Daniel H. Muller of Vallejo died Jan. 19, 1998, after a brief illness.

Mr. Muller, 74, was first elected to the Solano County Board of Education in November 1979, representing Area 5 in Vallejo. He had completed two years of his fifth term of office, a term that expires in 1999.

"He was a great man - the community is going to miss him," said Jose Briseno of Vacaville, one of Mr. Muller's colleagues on the board. "I respected him completely. He was a strong human being with a lot of character and a lot of heart."

Mr. Muller was president of the board in 1984, 1990 and 1997, working with former schools superintendent Bill Chadbourne when he was first elected and for the past 11 years with current Superintendent Wendall Kuykendall.

Prior to his election to the board, Mr. Muller served as deputy superintendent of schools under then-superintendent Casey Golomb from 1971 to 1979.

He was devoted to education, teaching in both the Vallejo and San Francisco unified school districts during his career. He had a doctorate's degree and was a professor of education at the University of San Francisco for the past 20 years, and was a union representative for the faculty association there. He also served on the board of directors at the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology.

"He brought a lot of wisdom. He's always provided a tremendous amount of knowledge and perspective," Briseno said. "He's very attuned to the community in Vallejo. The community will be hard pressed to find someone to take his place."

Born Sept. 19, 1923, in San Francisco, Mr. Muller had lived in Vallejo for 35 years.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Vallejo Host Lions Club.

Mr. Muller is survived by his wife, Trinidad; daughter, Vani of Oakland; son, Martin of Berkeley; and grandchildren, Coimbra and Rahsaan Jackson, both of Oakland.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Basil's the Great Catholic Church, 1200 Tuolumne St., Vallejo. Burial will follow in All Souls Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call at Twins Chapel Mortuary after noon Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vallejo Host Lions Club or the donor's favorite educational program.

Floy Eileen Popkiss

Funeral services for Floy Eileen Popkiss, 62, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Friday at Vaca Hills Chapel in Vacaville.

The Rev. Russell Umphenour of Fairfield Assembly of God Church will preside. Burial will be in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Jan. 21, 1935, in Monterey County, Mrs. Popkiss died Jan. 17, 1998, at Sierra Vista Nursing Center in Napa after a long illness. She was a homemaker for 40 years. She loved to crochet and make dolls.

Mrs. Popkiss is survived by her husband, Edward of Vacaville; daughters, Debra Ottele of Wyoming, and Cheryl Osborn of Chowchilla; sons, Robert Osborn of Wyoming and Gary Osborn of Montana; sisters, Geretha Hatcher of  Oklahoma and Lenora Chewing of Ukiah; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vaca Hills Chapel.
