Ethel I. Franks

A memorial service for Ethel I. Franks, 83, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairmont Memorial Park Chapel, 1901 Union Ave., in Fairfield.

The Rev. Stan Sanderson will officiate. Inurnment will be private at Fairmont Memorial Park.

Born May 8, 1914, in Kansas, Mrs. Franks died Jan. 23, 1998, in NorthBay Medical Center after a long illness. She had lived in Fairfield for 35 years.

She was a homemaker for 65 years.

Mrs. Franks is survived by her husband, Rex of Fairfield; sisters, Bessie Lanman of Alaska, Ruby Piper of Eldorado, Kan., Opal Alexander of Florida and Edith Dingman of Sonora; and brother, Merle Starr of Sonora.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Dorothy Beatrice Messenger

Inurnment will be in Mountainview Cemetery for Dorothy Beatrice Messenger, 89, of Vacaville.

Mrs. Messenger died Jan. 24, 1998, in her home after a short illness. She was born Dec. 8, 1908, in Oakland and was a school secretary in the Acalanes School District for 20 years. She had lived in Vacaville for 12 years.

She belonged to the Christian Science Church of Vacaville and loved ballroom dancing.

Mrs. Messenger is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Gracey-Gamble of Oakland; son, William Gracey of Vacaville; and two grandchildren.

Winifred Beatrice Ford

A memorial service for Winifred Beatrice Ford, 73, of Fairfield is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The Rev. Glen Stanphill will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Born July 2, 1924, in Alhambra, Mrs. Ford died Jan. 25, 1998, at NorthBay Medical Center after a long illness. She lived in Fairfield for 38 years.

Mrs. Ford served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. She worked in the Base Exchange at Travis Air Force Base from 1960 to 1963.

She was manager of Arden's Dress Shop from 1963 to 1965.

She worked for Montgomery Ward as a salesclerk and manager from 1965 to 1969.

In 1969, she purchased the Montgomery Ward franchise in Fairfield, and owned it until her retirement in 1985.

She was a member of the Senior Center and was an avid pinochle player.

Mrs. Ford is survived by her daughter, Deborah of Fairfield; sons, Edward of Laurinburg, N.C., Mark of Suisun City and Thomas of Vallejo; sister, Mary Samson of San Diego; and one grandchild.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1312 Maryland St., Fairfield.

Arthur Thomas Cavins

Graveside services for Arthur Thomas Cavins, 79, of Vacaville are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. The Rev. Leo Nelson will officiate.

Born Dec. 31, 1918, in Rudy, Ark., Mr. Cavins died Jan. 27, 1998, in Vacaville after a long illness.

He worked for the Solano County Maintenance Department for 20 years before retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia of Vacaville; sons, Darryl Cavins of Vallejo and Lonnie Cavins of Vacaville; sister, Eunice Bone of Vacaville; brother, Ray Cavins of Vacaville; stepdaughter, Sandy of Hawaii; two granddaughters and a great-grandson.

Edith B. Dean

Memorial services for Edith B. Dean, 79, of Fairfield are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

The Rev. Sebastian Meyer of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 4, 1918, in  Washington, Mrs. Dean died Jan. 26, 1998, in David Grant Medical Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Dean lived in Fairfield for 35 years. She worked as an attendant and cook for the Child Care Center at Travis Air Force Base.

Mrs. Dean is survived by her son, James of Antioch.

Ethelyn Grace Morrill

Private services are planned for Ethelyn Grace Morrill, 92, of Vacaville.

Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born April 15, 1905, in Petaluma, Mrs. Morrill died Jan. 27, 1998, in Vacaville after a long illness. She lived in Vacaville for 71 years.

Mrs. Morrill worked as a teacher for 26 years for the Vacaville Unified School District. She was a member of the Eastern Star Vacaville Chapter, Saturday Club, St. Ann's Guild Chapter, Vacaville Garden Club and the National Retired Teachers Association.

Mrs. Morrill is survived by her daughter, Meredith Neill of Weed; grandchildren, Gregory Neill of Weed, David Neill of Eagle River, Robert Neill of Vancouver, Wash., and Todd Neill of Shingle Springs; great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Deshka Neill of Eagle River, and Samuel Neill of Shingle Springs; sister, Isabelle Cook of Oakland; and niece, Lela Busey of Savannah, Ga. She was preceded in death in 1986 by her husband, Verne.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Manuel Nofuentes

A Catholic Prayer Service for Manuel Nofuentes, 71, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Friday at McCune Garden Chapel. The Rev. Benedict De- Leon of St. Mary's Catholic Church will preside.

Burial will follow in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born May 6, 1926, in Vacaville, Mr. Nofuentes died Jan. 27, 1998, in Fairfield after a sudden illness. He was a resident of Vacaville all his life.

He worked for Pacific Gas & Electric for 35 years. He umpired baseball and was a basketball referee for several years.

Mr. Nofuentes is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly of Vacaville; son, Frank of Vacaville; daughters, Cori of Vacaville and Debbie McCulough of Clearlake; sisters, Lola Moriel of Vacaville and Lupe Rivas of Santa Clara; grandchildren, Chrissy, Mark, Nathan, Trista, Jason, Gary and Brandon, all of Vacaville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale, Vacaville,  Calif., 95688.

Edna Lucille Scully

Private family services are planned for Edna Lucille Scully, 90, of Vacaville. Inurnment also will be private.

Born March 13, 1907, in Chanute, Kan., Mrs. Scully died Jan. 26, 1998, at VacaValley Hospital after a long illness. She moved to the area nine years ago.

Mrs. Scully was a homemaker for 50 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Walker of Vacaville; grandsons, Robert Walker of Vacaville and William Walker of Palmdale; granddaughters, Gayle Strom of Vacaville and Traci Harrison of Laguna Hills; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Khoi Casimir Hoang

A Mass of Christian Burial for Khoi Casimir Hoang, 6 days old, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

The Rev. Patrick Lanigan will officiate. Interment will be private in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Jan. 21, 1998, in Vallejo, the infant died Jan. 27, 1998, in the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.

The infant is survived by parents, Paulette A. Marino and Dangkhoi T. Hoang of Fairfield; sister, Makaylah of Fairfield; paternal grandfather, Viem of Fairfield; paternal grandmother, Ngoc Trieu of San Francisco; maternal grandfather, Paul Marino of Vallejo; maternal grandmother, Vivian Guerra of Guam; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

Joseph Borg Sr.

Upon his request, there will be no services for Joseph Borg Sr., 89, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Born Nov. 22, 1908, in Malta, Mr. Borg died Jan. 28, 1998, at his Vacaville home after a long illness.

He was the owner of Fairfax Grocery Store from 1933 to 1961. He moved to the area in 1980 from San Francisco.

Mr. Borg is survived by his daughters, Rose Marie Lewis of Vacaville and Carmela Anderson of Pleasanton; son, Joseph Jr. of Richmond; brother, Frank of Mountain View; grandchildren, Richard Lewis of San Mateo, David Lewis of San Bruno, Michael Lewis of Middletown, Idaho, Mitchell of Fremont, Ronald of Richmond, Mary Ruth Horner of Modesto, Debra Martin of Hayward, and Janice, John and Linda Anderson, all of Pleasanton; great-grandchildren, Jason, Brett, and Mitchell Lewis, all of Vacaville, David, Jon and Jennifer Lewis of San Bruno, Amanda and Melinda Lewis of Middletown, Idaho, and Jamie, Vanessa and Amanda Martin of Hayward; and great-great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alisha of Fremont, Brielle and Jordan Lewis of Vacaville, Vanessa and D.J. Horner of Modesto and Bella Lewis of Vacaville.

Arrangements are by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Mary Castro Gonzales
A Catholic Prayer Service for Mary Castro Gonzales, 80, of Vacaville will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at McCune Garden Chapel.
The Rev. Benedict DeLeon of St. Mary's Catholic Church will preside. Burial will follow in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born April 10, 1917, in Vacaville, Mrs. Gonzales died Jan. 29, 1998, in Fairfield after a long illness. She was a lifelong resident of Vacaville.

Mrs. Gonzales owned and operated her own farm for 60 years with her late husband, Frank A. Gonzales. She belonged to the Iberra Spanish Club in Woodland and the Vacaville Senior Club. She enjoyed gardening, growing roses, and loved raising rabbits and her poodle, Missy.

Mrs. Gonzales is survived by her daughter, Geraldine of Vacaville; sister, Eleanor Hansen of Vacaville; brother, Peter of Vacaville; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the McCune Garden Chapel.

Julia Carolina Adamo

A Funeral Mass for Julia Carolina Adamo, 88, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 960 Caymus St., Napa.

The Rev. Timothy O'Sullivan will preside. A rosary and vigil service will be 7 p.m. today at the Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Napa. Burial will be at the Tulocay Cemetery in Napa.

Born Aug. 7, 1909, in Crockett, Mrs. Adamo died Jan. 28, 1998, at the Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.

She moved to Napa in 1926 when she married Albert Adamo, whose family had settled there in 1895.

Mrs. Adamo was a charter member of the Italian Catholic Federation in Napa and was honored at a dinner last year for her 70-year membership and service to that organization. She was also a member of the Napa Lioness Club and the St. John's Altar Society.

Mrs. Adamo is survived by her son, Frank of Redding; daughter, Carol  Johnson (Delano) of Napa; son, John of Vacaville; brother, Joe Panuzzi of Redding; sister-in-law, Lee Rodgers of Vallejo; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will start at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
