Catherine M. Greer

The family of Catherine M. Greer, 82, of Vacaville will hold a private memorial service in her honor.

Ms. Greer was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Davis County, Ky., and died Feb. 7, 1998, at VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville.

She is survived by her son, Mr. Lee Greer of Vacaville; daughters, Sheila Rush of Vacaville and Eileen Knott of Evansville, Ind.; brother, Glen Nave of Klamath Falls, Ore.; sisters, Willie Billings of Santa Monica and Joyce Shuler of Owensboro, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Mary Ramos

A funeral mass for Mary Ramos, 85, of Winters will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Winters.

Burial will be at a later date at Winters Cemetery.

Born Dec. 4, 1912, in Maui, Hawaii, she died Feb. 9, 1998, at Sutter Davis Hospital.

A lifelong resident of Winters, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling. She did extensive traveling with her husband and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Farm Bureau.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, F. Carmelo Ramos in May 1987, and her sisters, Lola and Frances Ramos, as well as two infant sisters and one infant brother.

She is survived by her daughters, Ramona Martin of Winters and Lola Riolo of Sacramento; sons, Carl, William and Tom of Winters; sisters, Julia Carrion of Arbuckle, Connie Azuar of Vallejo, Toni Ichertz of Woodland and Carmen Borden of Vacaville; grandchildren, Ted and Stephen of Carmichael, Corrinne Cooper of Reno, Kathryn Martin Massman of West Sacramento, David Martin of Winters, Jason of San Dimas, Todd of San Luis Obispo and Adriane of Moraga; niece, Marian Krammerer of Winters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with a vigil at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made in the name of the Carmelo and Mary Ramos Scholarship Fund at Winters High School, care of First Northern Bank of Dixon, Winters branch, 48 Main St., 95694.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.

Alfonso 'Al' Ordonez

A Mass of Christian Burial for Alfonso "Al" Ordonez, 84, of Suisun will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield.

Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery with full military honors. The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate.

Born May 1, 1913, in Cavite, Philippine Islands, he died Feb. 7, 1998, in David Grant Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mr. Ordonez served in the U.S. Army and Air Force from 1934 to 1964, retiring as a master sergeant. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a prisoner of war for 991 days during World War II.

After military service he was ordnance department supervisor for civil service with the Army and Air Force until 1974.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 31, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7895, all of Salinas. He was also a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Outreach Senior Center.

He is survived by his daughters, Angela Maye of Fairfield and Doris Pagacian of Salinas; one grandchild; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St. in Fairfield.

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at Holy Spirit Church.

Willie Lorraine Page

Funeral services for Willie Lorraine Page, 77, will be held at the Milton Carpenter Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The Revs. Cathy Morris and Lloyd Ash of Dixon United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Silveyville Cemetery in Dixon.

Mrs. Page, a 50-year resident of Dixon, was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Idabel, Okla., and died Feb. 7, 1998, in Woodland after a long illness.

Mrs. Page was a homemaker for 55 years, as well as a member of the Dixon United Methodist Church WSCS and past president of the Vacaville and Dixon TOPS club. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and records.

She is survived by daughter, Lois Fry of Dixon; son, Dennis of  Oklahoma; sister, Mardell Clay; and brother, Raymond Pittman, both of Turlock. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and three sons, Isom, Charles and Melvin.

Visitation will be held at the Milton Carpenter Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dixon United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Fran Plocher

Services have been held for Fran Plocher of Riverside, who died at her home Jan. 28, 1998, after a long illness.

She was well known in the military and civilian communities, as her husband, retired Col. Martin E. Plocher, was stationed at Travis Air Force Base for several years in the early 1960s.

Mrs. Plocher often modeled in fashion shows for shops in both Vacaville and Fairfield.

Her children were active in various schools in the area. Her daughter was Miss Solano County and the county's representative to the Miss California pageant during that time.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Marty Garnett of Spearman,  Texas; son, John of Riverside; sister, Jackine McCullough of Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, any hospice organization or the missionary fund of any Mormon church.

Abelardo Lopez Ramos

Funeral services for Abelardo Lopez Ramos, 64, of Winters will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel, and burial will be in Winters Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Ramos died Feb. 8, 1998, at his Winters home.

Born April 29, 1933, in Almeria, Spain, Mr. Ramos served in the U.S. Navy, worked as a barber, owned and operated a grocery store and purchased and managed properties.

He was an avid golfer, played many musical instruments and raised canaries and finches. He was a member of Club Iberico, was active in his senior center lunch program and retired from the University of California, Davis.

Mr. Ramos is survived by his son, Fred of Winters; daughters, Patricia of Winters and Mary Jane Dinger of Woodland; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Frances of Winters, Faustino and Reenie of McCall, Idaho, and Henry and Janene of Winters; grandchildren, Amber, Hailee and Raeann of Winters, Ashlee and Jeffrey Hornbeck of Winters, and Miranda and Gene Dinger of Woodland; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Adela Martinez, and his brother, Pete.

Gladys L. Silveira

Memorial services for lifelong Solano County resident Gladys L. Silveira, 89, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Pacific Estates Community Room, 300 Pacific Ave., Fairfield.

Entombment will be private.

Born Jan. 1, 1909, in Fairfield, Mrs. Silveira died Feb. 5, 1998, at her home after a long illness. She had lived in Fairfield for 87 years, spending two years of her life in Vallejo. She graduated from Armijo High School.

She was a homemaker, a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a member of Fairfield Senior Center.

Mrs. Silveira is survived by her nieces, Susan Terry of Fairfield, JoAnn Terry of Dixon, Wendy  Taylor of Fresno, Tina Kirkbride of Vacaville, Sharon Whalen of Sacramento and Yvonne Smith of Sacramento.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Peter Silveira.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Senior Center, 1200 Civic Center Drive, Fairfield 94533.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Carey Faith Whatley

Services for Carey Faith Whatley, 55, of Vacaville will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Nadeau Family Funeral Home, 180 E. Monte Vista Ave. in Vacaville.

Bishop James Innes of the second Vacaville Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Burial will follow in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born April 10, 1942, in Idaho, Mrs. Whatley died Feb. 8, 1998, at her Vacaville home after a long illness. She had lived in Vacaville for more than 20 years and was a homemaker all her adult life.

She is survived by her daughters, Paulette Stetser of Vacaville, Anne Marie Sauerwein of Suisun City, and Wanda Whitmore of Vacaville; son, James Jr. of Fairfield, Ohio; mother, Gladys P. Robinson of Fairfield; sisters, Jeannie Searle of Tampa, Fla., Betty Lou Ripley of Union, Miss., Cora Lee Ramirez of Napa, Larene Nowland of Meridian, Idaho, Lenora Tuberville of Fairfield, and Joy Stanley of Suisun City; brothers, Steve Robinson of Mississippi, Jack Robinson of Vacaville and Bill Robinson of Marysville; and grandchildren, Thomas James Stetser Jr. and Desiree Ellen Stetser of Vacaville, and Joshua Robert and Jacob Ray Sauerwein of Suisun City.

Friends may call at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home after 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Frank Paige Chandler

No services will be held for Frank Paige Chandler, 90, of Citrus Heights. Inurnment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield.

Born Aug. 26, 1907, in California, he died Feb. 8, 1998, at Vencor Hospital in Folsom.

Mr. Chandler worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 45 years. His last position was a senior diesel clerk in Roseville. He was also a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy as a yeoman. He was very active in a barbershop quartet.

He is survived by his brother, William Cal Trumbull of Fairfield; sister, Dorothy Buttacavoli of Yuba City; and niece, Ellen Pretzer of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Ethel Garand

Funeral services for Ethel Garand, 83, of Los Angeles will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Los Angeles.

Cremation will be at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles. The rabbi leader of Wilshire Temple will officiate.

Born June 11, 1914, in Winnipeg, Canada, Mrs. Garand died Feb. 8, 1998, in Vacaville from natural causes.

She retired as a waitress at Fred and Harvey's at Union Station in Los Angeles. She was a senior volunteer for many years and received numerous awards. She loved traveling and visiting with family and friends. She moved to Los Angeles 12 years ago to be closer to her son and grandchildren.

Mrs. Garand is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Debbie Gordon; grandchildren, Dawn Weir, Jonathan and Joseph Gordon; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Odin Weir; niece and godchild, Brenda Caninson; and nephew, Michael Bertz.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Alzheimer's Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of North Sacramento Funeral Home.

Letha Fern Wallace

Graveside services for Letha Fern Wallace, 84, of Vacaville will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Bishop George Fincke will officiate.

Burial will follow.

Mrs. Wallace died Feb. 8, 1998, in VacaValley Hospital after an illness.

Born Aug. 15, 1913, in Iowa, she moved to Vacaville 27 years ago. She was a homemaker for 42 years.

Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Leisure Town Homeowners Association.

She is survived by her husband, Harry L. of Vacaville; grandson, Joseph Stevenson of San Carlos; and nephew, Bill Morgan of Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Stevenson, in 1994.

Arrangements are under the direction of Vaca Hills Chapel.
