Emma M. Jahn

Upon her request, there will be no formal services for Emma M. Jahn, 93, of Suisun City. Inurnment will be private.

Born April 14, 1904, in Hamburg, Germany, Mrs. Jahn died Feb. 16, 1998, at NorthBay Medical Center after a long illness. She lived in Suisun City for 25 years.

Mrs. Jahn lived in New York City for several years before she and her husband, Dominic, bought and operated Jahn's Valley View Year Round Resort for 30 years in the Catskill Mountains of New York state.

In 1973, the couple moved to Suisun City and had their waterfront home constructed, becoming two of the original residents of the area surrounding Marina Boulevard.

Mrs. Jahn was active in senior activities and had received many awards for her needlepoint activities.

Mrs. Jahn is survived by her husband; daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Bill Gardner of Suisun City; son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Kay Wagner of Camarillo; sister, Matilda Peters of New York; nieces, Carol Margraf and Lee Rogers, both of New York; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Ruby Marie Williams Johnson

Funeral services for Ruby Marie Williams Johnson, 70, of Vacaville will be at 10:30 a.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville.

Pastor Larry West of the Church of Christ in Vacaville will officiate. Burial will follow at Colton Hermosa Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs.  Johnson died Feb. 14, 1998, in Windsor after a long illness.

Born Oct. 23, 1927, in Goliad County,  Texas, she moved to California in 1942 and lived in Vacaville for many years. A longtime teacher, she retired in 1991. She graduated from Vacaville High School in 1946, attended Pepperdine University and later graduated from California State University at San Bernardino in 1984.

Mrs.  Johnson is survived by her daughters, Kathy Lynn Hughes of Georgia and Colleen Behrens of Windsor; brothers, Gerald Williams of South Dakota, Robert Williams of Lake Isabella, Larry Williams of Vacaville and Roy Williams of Alaska; sisters, Katie Boyle of Trinidad and Mildred  Taylor of Redding; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane I. Johnson, husband, Richard H. Johnson, and son, Richard Dale Johnson.

John Ray Kahler Sr.

Funeral services for John Ray Kahler Sr., 74, of Vacaville will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Vaca Hills Chapel in Vacaville.

The Rev. Michael Morrison of First Church of the Nazarene will preside.

Born Oct. 10, 1923, in Snoqualmie, Wash., Mr. Kahler died Feb. 16, 1998, at Winsor House Convalescent Hospital in Vacaville after a long illness.

He moved to Solano County 13 years ago from Contra Costa County, where he lived for more than 30 years.

He worked as an engineer for Local No. 3 Operating Engineers for 20 years. He served a brief time in the Merchant Marine. He also loved golf and enjoyed bowling.

Mr. Kahler is survived by his wife, Ann of Vacaville; daughter, Linda Joy of Reno; son, John Jr. of Vacaville; sisters, Eva Sulston of Sacramento and Dorothy Brister of Centralia, Wash.; and granddaughter, Robin of Vacaville.

Contributions may be made to the Diabetes Society of Solano County, 817 Missouri St., No. 4, Fairfield 94533.

Takao Kimura Lee

Private family services will be held for Takao Kimura Lee, 84. Inurnment will be private.

Born Jan. 11, 1914, in Korea, Mr. Lee died Feb. 14, 1998, at NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness. He lived in Fairfield for 18 years.

Mr. Lee owned and operated a restaurant for 40 years. He retired in 1979 and moved to Fairfield. He was an avid golfer.

Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Kimiko of Fairfield; daughter, Junko Kam of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons, Kiyoteru Kimura and Yukio Kimura, both of Tokyo, and Paul Kimura of San Francisco; brothers, Shoji Kimura and Yoshio Kimura, both of Tokyo; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Wilma 'Dean' Quintero

Funeral services for Wilma "Dean" Quintero, 70, of Vacaville, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Nadeau Family Funeral Home, 180 E. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville.

Pastor Bill Kittle of the Freewill Baptist Church in Winters will officiate. Burial will follow in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Quintero died Feb. 15, 1998, in NorthBay Medical Center.

Born May 19, 1927, in Cleveland, Okla., she moved to Vacaville 56 years ago. She worked as a real estate agent with Heritage Realtors for 10 years.

Mrs. Quintero is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Oberg; son, Joseph, and brother, Don Callison, both of Vacaville; brother, Jack Callison of Santa Paula; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Rosa Fernandez

A funeral Mass for Rosa Fernandez, 88, of Winters will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Winters.

The Rev. Joseph Ternullo will officiate. Interment will be in the Winters Cemetery.

Mrs. Fernandez died Feb. 13, 1998, in Woodland following a short illness.

Born Sept. 21, 1909, in Lubrin Almeria, Spain, she lived in Winters for 76 years. She was a member of the Winters Senior Citizens and the St. Anthony's Altar Society.

Mrs. Fernandez is survived by her daughter, Pearl O'Neal of Winters; husband, Pete of Winters; son-in-law, Richard Whipple of Winters; grandchildren, Sharon Whipple of Salt Lake City; Judy Madsen and husband Brad of Murdock, Minn.; Fred Whipple and wife Lorie of Sugarland,  Texas, and Richard Whipple and wife Kristin of Lyndhurst, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Angelina Ornelas and Michael Madsen of Murdock, Minn.; Jermey, Ashlee, Amber, and Aubrey Whipple of Sugarland,  Texas; and A.J., Chris, and Lawren Whipple of Lyndhurst, Ohio; and sisters, Annie Lopez of Winters and Filomena Ramos of Vacaville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a vigil at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Winters.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Edward John Landis

Memorial services for Edward John Landis, 94, of Vacaville will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Vaca Hills Chapel in Vacaville.

The Rev. Gerald Harder of Elmira Baptist Church will officiate.

Interment will be private in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Landis died Feb. 14, 1998, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo following a short illness.

Born Oct. 25, 1903, in St. Petersburg, Russia, he moved to the area eight years ago. He worked in real estate sales for many years and also was a member of the Vacaville Moose Lodge No. 1967.

Mr. Landis is survived by his wife, Hazel of Vacaville; stepdaughter, Bernice Grimes of Walnut Creek; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity.

James Carson Marshall

No services are planned for James Carson Marshall, 80, of Citrus Heights.

Born on June 15, 1917, in Vacaville, he died on Feb. 17, 1998, of natural causes in Carmichael.

Mr. Marshall was the son of Dr. Lewis C. and Cathy Brazelton Marshall. He attended local schools and the University of California, Davis.

In 1942, Mr. Marshall married Ida Jane Stewart of Suisun, and they made their home in Vacaville until 1980. He was employed by Shell Oil Co. in the early 1940s and managed a service station in Vacaville until 1960, at which time he joined the staff on the newly formed Solano Irrigation District, retiring in 1977.

In 1980, Mr. Marshall and his wife moved to Calaveras County, living near the town of West Point during the summers and spending winters in eastern San Diego County in the town of Borrego Springs. In 1995, health problems caused them to return to the Sacramento Valley in order to be closer to hospital facilities.

Mr. Marshall was a 50-year member of Vacaville Lodge F&AM No. 134 and a 27-year member of the volunteers of the Vacaville Fire Department. He also was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at UC Davis.

In Borrego Springs, he and his wife were members of the Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association and he worked for several years as a volunteer at the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park's Visitor Center.

Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Ida Jane Marshall; sister, Louise Bolt of Parlier; nephew, Lewis Bolt of Parlier.

Memorials can be made to the Solano County Fire Association Widows' and Orphans' fund, c/o Vacaville Fire District, 420 Vine St., Vacaville 95688, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Price Funeral Chapel.

James Alvin Matthews

Funeral services for James Alvin Matthews, 78, of Fairfield will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Travis Boulevard, Fairfield. Bishop Mack Barney will officiate.

Interment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield with full military honors.

Born April 2, 1919, in Ashton, Idaho, Mr. Matthews lived in the area for 19 years. Mr. Matthews died on Feb. 17, 1998, at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base following a short illness.

Mr. Matthews served in the Air Force from 1939 to 1960. During those years he served in World War II and the Korean War. He served in Germany, the Philippines, and various bases in the United States. He retired as a Air Force chief warrant officer at Travis Air Force Base on Aug. 31, 1960. He worked as a correctional officer at the California Medical Facility for 15 years, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Lola of Fairfield; sons, James of Seattle, and Kervyn and Gordon, both of Fairfield; daughter, Susan Grannis of Seattle; brother, Jack of Bountiful, Utah; sisters, Inez Karren and Elynn Kirkham of Blackfoot, Idaho, Adelaide Mortensen of Bountiful, Utah and Faye Herrigfeld of Ashton, Idaho; and 14 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Anna D. Amitsis

Funeral services for Anna D. Amitsis, 80, of Fairfield will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jehovah's Witness Fairfield Kingdom Hall, 1651 Sunset Ave., Fairfield. Inurnment will be private at Fairmont Memorial Park.

Born July 23, 1917, in Kefalonia, Greece, Mrs. Amitsis died Feb. 12, 1998, at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base following a long illness.

Mrs. Amitsis lived in Fairfield for 26 years and was a homemaker for 40 years. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Fairfield Kingdom Hall.

Mrs. Amitsis is survived by her daughter, Helen Stewart of Fairfield; son-in-law, Donald Stewart of Fairfield; son, Sotiris Amitsis of Athens, Greece; daughter-in-law, Despina Amitsis of Athens; sisters, Olga Ladas, Georgia Karayiannis, and Soula Karamalakis, all of Athens.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Jimmy Dan Davis

Memorial services for Jimmy Dan Davis, 55, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Stan Sanderson of the Church of Christ will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Davis died Feb. 14, 1998, in Mount Diablo after a short illness.

Born Oct. 23, 1942, in Cleburne,  Texas, he lived in Fairfield 22 years. He served in the United States Navy, retiring in 1981 with the grade of CPO, as a computer technician. After retirement he worked for the Digital Company in San Francisco for 17 years. He retired from the U.S. Naval Shipyard at Mare Island. He was a member of BPOE Vallejo 559, and a supporter and leader in the Boy Scouts.

Mr. Davis was an avid woodworker. Woodworking was his great love and he had built and developed a state-of-the-art workshop in his home garage.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Deborah of Fairfield; sons, Amend and Evan, both of Fairfield, and Brett of  Texas; daughters, Sandra and Diana, both of Wisconsin; stepmother, Faye Davis of  Texas; stepsister, Betty Jo Tippett of  Texas; and one granddaughter.
