Ruth J. Porter

A memorial service for Ruth J. Porter, 76, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 621 S. Orchard, Vacaville.

Born May 23, 1921, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., Mrs. Porter died Feb. 17, 1998, at Kaiser Medical Center in Hayward.

She taught developmentally disabled children for more than 20 years and had attended graduate school. She was a past member of California Teachers Association and loved horse racing.

Mrs. Porter is survived by sisters, V. Frances Wind of Brentwood, Mo., and Ella Mae Walkup of Arkansas; and niece Judy Thomas of Vacaville.

Arrangements are by Chapel of the Chimes.

Robert E. Wiesz

Inurnment for Robert E. Wiesz, 92, of Fairfield will be in the East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park in Sacramento.

Born June 22, 1905, in San Francisco, Mr. Wiesz died Feb. 21, 1998, in Fairfield, where he had lived for three years.

He was in San Francisco during the 1906 earthquake.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he worked for 36 years at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a planner and estimator from 1935 until his retirement in 1961.

He moved to Colfax, where he lived from 1961 to 1964.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Wayne Blakley of Fairfield; son, Gary Wiesz of Colfax; grandsons, Robert Blakley of Vacaville, Wayne Blakley of Fairfield, Larry Blakley of Germany and Colby Wiesz of Colfax; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Aileen J. Wiesz.

Joseph E. Berry

Graveside services with military honors for Joseph E. Berry, 78, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Friday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Sept. 24, 1919, in Missouri, Mr. Berry died Feb. 24, 1998, at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base after a long illness. Chaplain Michael Doan of Travis will preside.

Mr. Berry retired as a senior master sergeant for the Air Force, serving for 20 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Also, he retired from civil service in 1977 from Defense Contracts, last serving at Explosive Technology.

Mr. Berry is survived by his wife, Doris of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Tom Sadilek of Edwards Air Force Base; sister, Pauline Bishop of Missouri; grandchildren, Charlie, Stephanie and Jessica Sadilek, all of Edwards Air Force Base.

He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas, in 1989.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy Chiappuzzo

Memorial services for Dorothy Chiappuzzo, 59, of Santa Rosa will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Neptune Society in Santa Rosa.

Born May 7, 1938, at Fort Washakie Reservation, Wyo., she died Feb. 15, 1998, in Santa Rosa after a short illness.

She came to California in 1962 and raised children in Vacaville before moving to Santa Rosa in 1990.

She worked as a caregiver for the elderly. She loved reading, nature and going to the beach.

She is survived by her husband, Scott of Petaluma; daughter, Dawn Doughty of Ukiah; son, Joe Doughty of Sacramento; sister, Nathelle Anthony of Petaluma; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Marge Glick of Vacaville; grandchildren, Nelson and Vernon Cook of Gualala and Adriann Cook of Ukiah; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Blood Bank of the Redwoods.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society in Sacramento.

Floyd E. Brown

A private family service for Floyd E. Brown, 80, of Vacaville will be Sunday at Vaca Hills Chapel. The retired Rev. Leo Nelson will preside. Burial will be private in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born April 17, 1917, in Birch Tree, Mo., Mr. Brown died Feb. 25, 1998, after an illness. He worked as a general contractor for 50 years and lived in Vacaville for the last 22 years.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 62 years, Georgia Fay of Vacaville; daughters, Shirley Moirano of Rodeo and Deborah Conway of Kirkland, Wash.; son, Steven of Vacaville; brother, Merle of Burney; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Brett Thomas Cooper

Funeral services for Brett Thomas Cooper, 16, of Dixon will be Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday at Silveyville Cemetery.

Born May 16, 1981, in Payson, Utah, the teen died Feb. 25, 1998, in Davis after a sudden illness.

He was a student at Dixon High School and was a member of the cross country track team and Boy Scouts. His hobbies were basketball, running and other outdoor activities. He also loved to run at Timm's Ranch, and enjoyed playing with his cat, Buttons.

He is survived by his parents, Jim and Jeanine of Dixon; brothers, Jason and Ryan, both of Dixon, and Neil of Davis; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Daisy of Fairfield; maternal grandparents, Warren Molberg of Minnesota, and Ila Molberg of Orem, Utah; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

Russell Julian Ermitano

Funeral services for Russell Julian Ermitano, 47, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ramona Lucero of Suisun-Fairfield Congregational Church will preside.

Born March 19, 1950, in Hilo, Hawaii, Mr. Ermitano died Feb. 23, 1998, in Oakland after a sudden illness. He was a resident of Fairfield for 30 years.

He was a 1968 graduate of Hilo High School and also was a graduate of Solano Community College.

He served in the Air Force for four years.

He worked as a carpenter for 24 years and was a member of Union Local 180 in Vallejo. He recently was employed by Benco Inc., working on bridge construction in the Bay Area. He was also employed by Hoffman Construction in Fairfield for several years.

He enjoyed the outdoors and the Hawaiian culture.

Mr. Ermitano is survived by his wife, Laura of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Kris and Scott Sproat of Oahu, Hawaii; son and daughter-in-law, Branden and Melissa of Suisun; sons, Tyler and Ryan, both of Fairfield; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ermitano of Hilo, Hawaii; brother, Keith of Spokane, Wash.; sister, Claudia Pine of Hawaii; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. A memorial service will conducted at a later date in Hilo. The family requests those attending services wear casual attire.

Donald Paul Streich

Memorial services for Donald Paul Streich, 70, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2075 Dover Ave.

The Rev. Martin Bergstrom will officiate.

Born Feb. 12, 1928, in Glencoe, Minn., Mr. Streich died Feb. 25, 1998, in Fairfield after a long illness.

He was a resident of Fairfield for four years. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. A pilot, he was stationed in Japan and Korea and retired in 1966 as a major.

He worked for Safeway grocery stores as a systems analyst for 25 years before retiring in 1994.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mr. Streich is survived by his wife, Rose Marie of Fairfield; daughter, Jeanne of Livermore; sons, Michael of Riverbank and Christopher of the Bay Area; sister, Ellen Rommel of Escalon; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the kitchen fund at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Alice B. Wilson

There will be no services for Alice B. Wilson, 78, of Fairfield. Burial will be in San Joaquin National Cemetery.

Born April 1, 1919, in  Louisiana, she died Feb. 26, 1998, in NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

She was a resident of Fairfield for seven years and was a loving mother and grandmother. She worked in the clerical division of the Federal Reserve Bank for 20 years.

She is survived by daughters, Ann M. Walker of Oakland, Ora L. Bourgeois of  Louisiana and Julia M. Chukuma of Fairfield; son, Nathaniel Payne of Oakland; 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Duncan Bennett

Services for Duncan Bennett, 75, will be Monday in Rush Creek Christian Church in Arlington,  Texas.

Mr. Bennett died Feb. 24, 1998.

Born April 7, 1922, in Pittsburg, Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife, Donna of Coppell,  Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Edward Arnett of Irving,  Texas, Cynthia Bennett and Bob Kelly of Fort Worth,  Texas, and Sharon and Jeff Canclini, of Arlington,  Texas; grandchildren, Morgan, Rachel, Jeffrey and Jon-Paul Canclini, all of Arlington,  Texas, and Andrew Arnett of Irving,  Texas; brother, William of Raymond, Wash.; sister- and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Raymond Easton of Fairfield; brother-in-law, Thomas Poncy of Nevada; and several nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 2401 Scott Ave., Fort Worth,  Texas, 76103.

Arrangements are handled by Arlington Funeral Home in Arlington,  Texas.

Memorial services for Byron Rodger Lynn, 37, of Vacaville will be March 22 in the Salvation Army Community Services and Worship Center, 635 Williams St.

Chaplain Durell of the Salvation Army will officiate. Inurnment was private.

Born Sept. 10, 1960, in California, he died Feb. 22, 1998, in Vaca Valley Hospital after a sudden illness.

A resident of Vacaville for 12 years, he was a receiving clerk for North Bay Distributors Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca of Vacaville; a stepson, Ben Barnes of Vacaville; his parents, Byron and Lynn A. of Vacaville; his grandmother, Mabel M. Koippe of Carmichael; his brother, Robert T. of Vacaville; brother and sister-in-law, James and Christine of Hayward; his sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Forrest York of  Texas; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charlotte and Bill Smith of Chula Vista; four nephews, one niece, and numerous aunts and uncles.

Arrangements are by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Dorothy Dean James

Graveside services for Dorothy Dean James, 86, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

The Revs. Stan Caylor and Theodore  Jones of Seventh-day Adventist Church will preside.

Born June 7, 1911, in Hutchinson, Kan., Mrs. James died Feb. 27, 1998, at her Vacaville home from kidney failure.

She was a homemaker for 68 years, and moved to the area in 1978.

Mrs. James was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Hutchinson, Kan., and the Seventh-day Adventist in Vacaville.

She enjoyed crocheting and playing the piano.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Ward and Doris LeMaster, both of Vacaville, and Beverly Scott of Jackson, Miss.; sons, Donald of Fairfield, Gary of Seaside and Ronnie of Davis; 23 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vaca Hills Chapel.

Contributions may be made to Kaiser Hospitals Hospice Program.
