Felicita Coronel Carlos

Visitation for Felicita Coronel Carlos, 41, of Fairfield will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Mrs. Carlos died March 21, 1998, at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo following a long illness.

Born Nov. 6, 1956, in Lima, Peru, she moved to the area two years ago. She worked as a homemaker for the past 16 years.

She is survived by her husband, Eugenio Coronel; daughters, Karem Coronel and Ibonni Coronel; sons, Geraldine Eugenio Coronel and Jhimi Coronel Carlos, all of Fairfield.

Inurnment will be private.

Eleanor Cecilia Brosnan-Cooper

A Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor Cecilia Brosnan-Cooper, 78, of Vacaville will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The Rev. Vincent O'Reilly of St. Joseph Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Brosnan-Cooper died March 22, 1998, in VacaValley Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born Sept. 21, 1919, in Oakland, she moved to the area 19 years ago. She worked as a telephone operator for 30 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed sewing, watching baseball games and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Brosnan-Cooper is survived by her husband, Valmer Lawrence; son, Dennis Cooper of Thornton; grandchildren, Dennis Jr., Danielle and Jovan Raso, all of Thornton; sister, Catherine D. Panconi of Fremont; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius Brosnan of County Kerry, Ireland, and Mary Ann Murphy-Brosnan of Ireland; brothers, John, Emmett and Edward; and sister, Mary Dombrink, all of Oakland and the Bay Area.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 today in Vaca Hills Chapel, with a vigil to begin at 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Carl Bernard Kalkbrenner

Graveside funeral services with full military honors for Carl Bernard Kalkbrenner, 78, of Fairfield will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Chaplain Leo O'Brien of Travis Air Force Base will officiate.

Mr. Kalkbrenner died March 20, 1998, in David Grant Medical Center after a long illness.

Born Sept. 11, 1919, in Pine Bluff, Ark., he moved to the area 31 years ago. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years. He served as a parachute instructor during that time. He retired in 1961 as a master sergeant and then worked in civil service for 20 years, repairing and installing survival equipment for the Air Force.

He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, 303rd Bomb Group Association, National Association for Uniformed Services, Sonoma Developmental Center Parents Group and Moose Lodge No. 861, Fairfield.

He is survived by his wife, Annes; sons, Edward H. of Fairfield and Steven C. of Eldridge; stepson, Robert C. Mulligan of Chico; and brothers, James of Malden, Mo., and Charles and John Loyce both of Pine Bluff.

Joe Bickham Patterson

Funeral services with full military honors for Joe Bickham Patterson, 66, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St., Fairfield.

Pastor Bob Lewis of Temple Baptist Church in Fairfield will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Born Feb. 24, 1932, in Winchester, Ark., Mr. Patterson died March 21, 1998, in David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base after a long illness.

Mr. Patterson was a resident of Fairfield for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1976 and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. While in the service, he worked as a vehicle maintenance superintendent. He retired in 1976 as a chief master sergeant. From 1977 to 1989, he was co-owner of the Patterson-Wheeler Union 76 gas station at Bell and North  Texas streets in Fairfield.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, the Retired Sergeants Association and the Retired Enlisted Association.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Barbara of Fairfield; daughter, Cathy A. Mellomida of Vacaville; son, Gregory of Shawnee, Kan.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Jack Kibbe of San Diego and Floydean and Hal Leinweber of Craig,  Colo.; sisters, Ellen Griess of Sacramento and Edna Whitcomb of Anaheim; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W.  Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield 94533.

Aldo Berta

Funeral services for Aldo Berta, 74, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Connolly &  Taylor in Martinez.

Burial will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.

Born Jan. 7, 1924, in Oakland, Mr. Berta died March 21, 1998, in Vacaville. He lived in the Castro Valley for 19 years.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a firefighter in Emeryville for more than 25 years. He was a police officer for six years. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.

Mr. Berta is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughters, Barbara L. Morphy-Martinez and Patricia A. Hunt of Pioneer; stepdaughter, Cynthia L. Stabile of Hayward; sister, Emma Haskell of Vacaville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today at Connolly & Taylor.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, East Bay Region, 1700 Webster St., Oakland 94612.

Kathleen Crane McKenna

A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen Crane McKenna, 82, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Friday in Hollister.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Hollister.

Born Sept. 3, 1915, in California, Mrs. McKenna died March 21, 1998, in Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

Mrs. McKenna moved to the area four years ago. She was a teacher for 32 years and loved to sew and do needlework.

Mrs. McKenna is survived by her husband, Paul of Vacaville; daughters, Ann Gary of Solvang and Jean Sasabuchi of Vacaville; grandchildren, Jennifer Demitt of Visalia, Elizabeth, Alycne and Felicia Sasabuchi, all of Vacaville; and great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Mickaela Demitt of Visalia and Tyler Sasabuchi of Vacaville.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Institute, 1170 Morris Ave., Sunnyvale 94089.

Arrangements are handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Marie M. Arnold

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie M. Arnold, 72, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Downey will preside. Entombment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park.

Born Dec. 22, 1925, in Dallas, Tex., Mrs. Arnold died March 23, 1998, at NorthBay Medical Center after a long illness. She lived in Fairfield for 50 years.

Mrs. Arnold was a homemaker for 50 years, and was a volunteer for NorthBay Medical Center and for the La Mariposa Convalescent Hospital.

She belonged to the Legion of Mary at Holy Spirit Church, as well as the Mother's Guild.

Mrs. Arnold is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, William of Reno, Nev., John Beazley, Frank Paul, and Sherman Louis and Brenda, all of Fairfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Rose and Charles Moore of Fairfield, Mary Margaret and Barry Barber of Petaluma, Veronica Vail and Ron Yvarra of Suisun City, and Nancy Marie and Jim V. Lara of Vacaville; brother, Louis Holt of Dallas, Tex., sister, Alice Snyder of Dallas, Tex.; 23 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death in 1990 by her husband of 45 years, Sherman.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. A rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday.

Contributions can be made to Kaiser Hospice Program, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo 94590.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Robert Birkland Sr.

A funeral Mass for retired Lt. Col. Robert Birkland Sr., 77, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Star of the Valley Catholic Church, 545  White Oak Drive in Santa Rosa.

Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Born Dec. 31, 1920, in Aberdeen, S.D., Mr. Birkland died March 23, 1998, in Santa Rosa.

Mr. Birkland attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and graduated from Central High School in 1939. His military career enabled him to travel worldwide and establish lifelong friendships.

During his tour in Anchorage, Alaska, Mr. Birkland met Josephine Aline on Thanksgiving Day in 1948. She was working as a secretary for the 57th Fighter Wing.

They married in Biloxi, Miss., on Dec. 31, 1949, where he was attending radar school. He was discharged from the service in 1950.

He worked a short time as an insurance adjuster before being recalled by the Air Force and stationed at Camp Carson as part of the 8th Air Rescue Squadron teaching survival techniques to be used by air crews caught behind enemy lines.

In April 1953, Gen. Curtis Lemay established an SAC survival school at Stead Air Force Base in Reno, Nev. The 8th Air Rescue Squadron was relocated to Stead. When the group was deactivated in 1959, Mr. Birkland was transferred to the 84th MAS, where he flew C-133s. By the time he retired from Travis Air Force Base on Aug. 1, 1969, he had logged almost 15,000 hours of flying time.

He was a parishioner of Star of Valley Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council, No. 1324, TROA and the Rincon Riders Horse Association.

Mr. Birkland is survived by his wife, Jo of Santa Rosa; daughters, Mary Ellen of San Jose, JoAnna Fox of Vacaville and Kathy Richards of Cupertino; son, Robert Jr. of Bodega Bay; sisters, Ruth Sabol, Mary Van Nostrand, Martha Schuchardt and Betty Willett; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ole and Ella; and brother, Don.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lafferty and Smith Colonial Chapel, 4321 Sonoma Highway, Santa Rosa.

Annie Lee Cook

Funeral services for Annie Lee Cook, 85, of Vacaville will be at 10 a.m. Friday at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born April 28, 1912, in Batesville, Ark., she died March 24, 1998, in Vallejo after a long illness.

A resident of Vacaville for 46 years, Mrs. Cook spent 66 years as a homemaker and mother.

She loved gardening, sewing - especially quilt making - and fishing. Mrs. Cook was also fond of cooking for her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Christene Booher and Maxine Lewellen, both of Vacaville; son, Autry Milligan of McMinnville, Ore.; sisters, Lottie Chandler and Edmona Horst, both of Batesville, Ark.; as well as 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Lillian Verlene Lee

A memorial service for Lillian Verlene Lee, 40, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. today in Unity Church of the Valley in Vacaville.

Funeral services for the family in North Carolina were held last Friday.

Born April 13, 1957, in Sanford, N.C., Ms. Lee died March 14, 1998, in Fairfield.

She was a 1979 graduate of Barber-Scotia College in Concord, N.C., earning a bachelor's degree in sociology. In 1992, she moved to California and gained a master's degree in counseling from St. Mary's University in 1996.

She was employed by the Solano County Office of Education as a school counselor. She also worked as an anger management counselor within the prison system.

She was an active member of Unity Church in Vacaville.

Ms. Lee is survived by her parents, Curtis and Ernestine of Sanford, N.C.; sisters, Wanda Gillon of Anchorage, Alaska, Sheila of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Mildred Elaine McIver and Cindy Lee Palmer, both of Sanford; brothers, Laverne and Casey of Sanford and Dwight of Spring Lake, N.C.

Mamie Jean Maynard

Memorial services for Mamie Jean Maynard, 72, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Vacaville.

The Rev. Leo Tubbs will preside. Inurnment was at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

Born Oct. 9, 1925, in Richmond, Va., Mrs. Maynard died March 19, 1998, at her daughter's home in San Diego after a long illness. She moved to the area in 1959 and returned in 1968 following her husband's military career.

Mrs. Maynard was an administrative secretary for 16 years until her retirement at Basic Vegetable Co. She was president of Basic Vegetable Co. Founders Club. She loved bingo, gambling trips to Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas, gardening, the ocean and family and friends.

Mrs. Maynard is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lynn of Carmichael; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Mark Todd of San Diego and Kathy and Tom Adler of Vacaville; grandchildren, Laura and David Todd of San Diego; sisters, Louise Smoot and Maxine Flamia of Richmond, Va.; brother, Howard Ford of Puyallup, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard.

Arrangements are handled by Greenwood Mortuary in San Diego.

Anna Wisman

A private inurnment for Anna Wisman, 96, of Fairfield will be in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 8, 1902, in New York City, Mrs. Wisman died March 25, 1998, at home after a long illness.

She lived in Fairfield for 25 years and was a homemaker for 66 years.

Mrs. Wisman is survived by her son, John of Fairfield; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
