Shirley Jean Cordy

A memorial service for Shirley Jean Cordy, 71, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mrs. Cordy died on April 9, 1998, at home following an illness.

Born Feb. 8, 1927, in Minnesota, she moved to the area 41 years ago. She graduated from Albany High School and later attended beauty school.

She enjoyed the outdoors, skiing and spending time with her family at Lake Tahoe. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sports events.

She was a faithful wife for 51 years, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Stan of Fairfield; daughter, Sandi Nygard of Fairfield; son, Michael of Fairfield; brother, Donald Novell of Port Hueneme; son-in-law, John Nygard of Fairfield; daughter-in-law, Pam Cordy of Fairfield; and grandchildren, Justin Gore, Rachael Cordy, Brad Nygard and Brian Nygard, all of Fairfield.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

A committal service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito.

Memorial contributions can be made to NorthBay Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1000 Nut Tree Road, Vacaville 95687, or the Armijo High School Booster Club, 824  Washington St., Fairfield 94533.

Joyce Cohen Duschka

Funeral services and entombment for Joyce Cohen Duschka, 72, of Suisun will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Fairmont Memorial Park, 1901 Union Ave., Fairfield.

Family and friends will preside over the services.

Mrs. Duschka died April 10, 1998, in Suisun after a short illness.

Born Nov. 17, 1925, in Berkeley, Mrs. Duschka moved to Suisun 17 years ago.

She was a homemaker for 51 years. She also was a doll collector and enjoyed garage sales. Mrs. Duschka was a member of the Lutheran Church in Albany for 25 years.

Mrs. Duschka is survived by her husband, Gene of Suisun; son, Allen of Vacaville; sister, Blanche Ebert of Albany; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Leon  Johnson Sr.

Funeral services for Leon  Johnson Sr., 65, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fairfield-Suisun Christian Center Ministries, 315 Marina Center, Suisun.

Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery in Suisun.

Mr.  Johnson died April 7, 1998, in Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo after a short illness.

Born March 13, 1933, in Woodville, La., Mr.  Johnson lived in Fairfield for 20 years. Mr.  Johnson worked as a maintenance engineer for 37 years. He also worked two years at Fort Mason as a maintenance engineer. He was a member of the Golden State Golf Club.

Mr.  Johnson is survived by wife, Barbara of Fairfield; daughters, Leona Babb and Kathy Corin, both of Fairfield, Dorothy  Johnson and Elaine Stevenson, both of Long Beach, and Lorene Fortune of San Diego; sons, Leon Johnson, Ivory Allen, and Kelvin Allen, all of Fairfield, and James Allen of Hampton, Va.; sisters, Delores  Johnson of New Orleans, La., Doris Williams of San Jose, and Nancy  Johnson of San Francisco; brothers, Charles of Crescent City, and Steve, Nathaniel, Larry and Ronald, all of San Francisco; 22 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St., Fairfield.

Jewel Amber Keiser

Upon her family's request, there will be no services for Jewel Amber Keiser, 89, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be in Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield.

Born July 30, 1908, in Columbus, N.D., Mrs. Keiser died April 9, 1998, in Vacaville after a long illness. She lived in Vacaville for 17 years.

Mrs. Keiser was a homemaker for 40 years. She was a member of the Easter Star in Montana, and enjoyed to garden, cook, read and travel.

She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Betz of Sunnyvale; son, Clarence Tooley of Martinez; sister, Lucille Reiswig of Vacaville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Billie G. Terry

Memorial services for Billie G. Terry, 62, of Vacaville will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville.

The Rev. Benedict DeLeon will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Born Nov. 25, 1935, in Sparta, Tenn., Mr. Terry died April 8, 1998, in Las Vegas, after a sudden illness. He moved to the area in 1970.

Mr. Terry served 24 years in the Air Force, and worked for the Travis Unified School District for 15 years. He loved golf, fishing and working on old cars.

Mr. Terry is survived by his wife, Ana of Vacaville; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Frances and Donald of Garnerville, Nev., and Janice and Mark Lowery of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lorie of Chincoteaque, Va.; brother, Lee of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Lena V. Marfil

A Catholic Prayer Service for Lena V. Marfil, 84, of Vacaville will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St.

Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. The Rev. Ben DeLeon of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate.

Born July 10, 1913, in Ryde, she died April 11, 1998, in Vacaville after a brief illness.

A resident of Vacaville for 64 years, Mrs. Marfil loved gardening, knitting, crocheting and fishing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, with whom she farmed for 24 years in Vacaville.

She is survived by her daughters, Dolores Marfil Albrecht of Chatsworth, Louise Marfil Slack of Vacaville and Joanne Marfil Cox of Vacaville; sister, Frances Allen of Monterey; grandchildren Mark Albrecht, Pamela Klaus, Tammy Albrecht, Butch Albrecht, Jamie Michalski, John Owens, Jolene Aiello, Jeramie Owens, Dina Auger, Bobbi Dargin and Carrie Gillock; as well as 12 great-grandchildren and 37 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at McCune Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa 95402.

David W. Henthorn

Funeral services for David W. Henthorn, 75, of North Manchester, Ind., will be at 11 a.m. today at Grandstaff-Hentget Manchester Avenue Chapel in Wabash, Ind.

The Rev. Lowell Burrus will officiate. burial will be in the Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash.

Mr. Henthorn died April 9, 1998, in the Wabash County Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1923, in Crawfordsville, Ind., he worked as a quality control supervisor for Wabash Alloys for 17 years. He married Thelma Smith on Nov. 16, 1946, in South Bend, Ind. He was a member of the Allentown Presbyterian Church and had attended the Wabash Presbyterian church. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

Mr. Henthorn is survived by his wife, Thelma; sons, Scott of Silver Lake, Ind., and David of Vacaville; daughter, Sue Ann Shennan of New Zealand; and five grandchildren.

Lon Richard Hill

Memorial services for Lon Richard Hill, 50, of Florence, Ore., are slated for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge, 302 Parker Ave., in Vacaville.

Born April 18, 1947, in Palo Alto, Mr. Hill died March 31, 1998, in Florence where he was living with his father.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie; daughter, Leisa; grandchildren, Tyler and Melissa; father, Jim of Florence; brother, John; and sisters, Shirley and Bert.

Contributions may be made to a cancer organization.

Arrangements were handled by Burns Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.

Dorothy M. Berendsen

A funeral Mass for retired Lt. Col. Dorothy M. Berendsen, 87, of Vacaville's Leisure Town will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville.

She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery on April 27.

Born Jan. 19, 1911, in DePere, Wis., she died April 4, 1998.

Described as a leader ahead of her time, Lt. Col. Berendsen joined the Army Nurse Corps in February 1941. She already had her pilot's license and was a member of the "Ninety-Nine," a flying organization established by Amelia Earhart.

She volunteered for the newly established Flight Nurses program after having served in the Panama Canal Zone.

Lt. Col. Berendsen served in England as chief nurse for an Army Air Corps squadron and following the "D-Day" invasion of Normandy she helped evacuate patients from France.

After various assignments in the United States and overseas, she retired at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash., in February 1964, then moved to Leisure Town.

Lt. Col. Berendsen was active in the Organ Club, the Aqua Belles, the Gem and Mineral Club and other activities in Leisure Town.

She also was a member of the Women's Club at St. Mary's; St. Joseph's parish; the Retired Officer's Club and many veteran's organizations.

She was the next-to-youngest of 11 children of Lambert and Mary Huberta.

She was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.

Lt. Col. Berendsen is survived by fourteen nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be held 6 p.m. Thursday in the Nadeau Family Funeral Home in Vacaville.

A memorial contribution may be made to the Military Community Health Care Foundation, 831 Alamo Dr., Suite 6B, Vacaville 95687, or to St. Joseph's parish in Lt. Col Berendsen's name.

Delfin Casolino Monroy

Funeral services for Delfin Casolino Monroy, 61, of Suisun will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield.

The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate. Interment will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born March 30, 1937, in San Pedro, Philippines, Mr. Monroy died April 12, 1998, in Fairfield after a long illness.

A resident of Suisun for 23 years, he served in the U.S. Navy for 19 years as a musician.

He was the owner of Fairfield Yellow Cab for five years and was a member of Holy Spirit Church as well as the Fairfield Suisun Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Monroy loved the outdoors, traveling and was a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Iluminada of Suisun; daughters, Marissa of San Francisco, Ginah of Suisun, Evangeline of Los Angeles; son, Delfin Jr. of Fort Campbell, Ky.; sisters, Concordia Mallari and Catalina of the Philippine Islands; brothers, Dominador and Alfonso, both of the Philippine Islands.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St. in Fairfield, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Diabetes Society of Solano County, 817 Missouri St., Fairfield 94533.

Irene Lucinda Pleasant

Funeral services for Irene Lucinda Pleasant, 77, of Fairfield will be held 1 p.m. Friday in Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Suisun City.

Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery.

The Rev. Claybon Lea will officiate.

Born Dec. 8, 1920, in Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Pleasant died April 14, 1998, in NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

She lived in Fairfield 15 years.

She was employed as a certified nurse's assistant for 20 years prior to retirement.

She had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chicago, and enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Earlier she attended D.U. Sable High School in Chicago.

Mrs. Pleasant is survived by a son, David of Fairfield; daughter, Paulette Eileen of Fairfield; daughter-in-law, Carolyn of Fairfield; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son, Michael, and daughter, Patricia.

A "Quiet Hour" will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Nadeau Family Funeral Home in Vacaville.

Phil Myron Meyers

The remains of Phil Myron Meyers, 77, of Vacaville will be scattered at sea in San Francisco near the Golden Gate Bridge.

Mr. Meyers died April 13, 1998, in VacaValley Hospital after a brief illness.

Born June 4, 1920, in Oakland, he moved to Vacaville in 1988. He worked as a traffic manager for American Home Foods for 35 years. He was a member of Delta Nu Alpha, Sons in Retirement, Chapter No. 106 and he was president of the Oakland Traffic Club. He was elected to the club's Hall of Fame in 1989.

Mr. Meyers is survived by his wife, Lee; daughter, Jan Houchins of Livermore; sons Steven and daughter-in-law, Ronda of Martinez and Brad Meyers of Castro Valley; stepson, Jeffrey Demetrescu, and daughter-in-law, Louise of Seattle, Wash., sisters, Grace Heasell and Ruth Hubartt; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A living memorial for Mr. Meyers will be held Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. at 602 Rambelton Drive in Vacaville.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, 1400 N. Dutton Ave., Santa Rosa, or to the Diabetes Society of Solano County, 817 Missouri St., Fairfield.

The Neptune Society of Northern California in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.
