Henry Earl Short

Funeral services for Henry Earl Short, 60, will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

Born July 17, 1937, in Grass Valley, Mr. Short died June 15, 1998, in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness. He had lived in Vacaville for 18 years.

Mr. Short had been employed as a truck driver with Lange Transportation in Oakland for 13 years. He had also lived in Nevada, and while there was a self-employed farmer for 18 years.

He was a former member of the Teamsters Union. His hobbies included fishing, camping with his family and gardening.

Mr. Short is survived by his wife, Wretha of Vacaville; daughters, Donna Mendoza of Fairfield, Lisa Sliwinski of Hayfork, and Jennifer of Vacaville; son, Jerry of East Carbon, Utah; sisters, Grace Langley of Seashore, Canada; and Ruth McCoy of Winnemucca, Nev.; and eight grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to the Henry Earl Short Trust Fund, c/o Wells Fargo Bank, Account No. 0581-333788, 3061 Alamo Drive, Vacaville 95687.

Evangelist Lanora Haynes

Funeral services for Evangelist Lanora Haynes, 45, of Fairfield will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the McCune Garden Chapel.

Pastor James Callaway will officiate. Burial services will be in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery in Vacaville.

Mrs. Haynes died June 12, 1998, in Fairfield after a lengthy illness.

Born July 26, 1952, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., she was a resident of Fairfield and Solano County for more than 24 years. She worked as the assistant manager of the Oneida silver store in the Factory Stores at Vacaville.

She was a member of the Temple Prayer Warriors, the Black Business Women's Association and an active member of the Chapel 1 congregation at Travis Air Force Base.

Mrs. Haynes enjoyed sewing, cosmetology and reading the Bible.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Haynes of Fairfield; daughter, LaTonya Buckner of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sons, LeVon and Isaiah of Fairfield; mother, Flora Lavendar of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Tiajuan Lewis of Akron, Ohio, and Monica Lavendar of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Michael Lavendar of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; in-laws, Roosevelt and Frances Haynes of Durham, N.C.; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is between 5 and 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, 212 Main St.

Owen Johnson

Private funeral services for Owen Clay Johnson, 75, of Vacaville will be at the Golden Gate Cemetery.

Mr.  Johnson died in Vallejo on June 17, 1998, after a long illness.

Born Oct. 29, 1922, in Providence, R.I., Mr.  Johnson left Duke University in 1943 and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He retired from the Army as a captain in 1963. Mr.  Johnson moved to Vacaville more than 35 years ago. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed sports, reading and working on crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Vacaville and daughter, Michelle Thornbrugh, also of Vacaville.

Alma Lawson

A Catholic Prayer Service for Alma Lawson, 74, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Monday in the McCune Garden Chapel.

The Rev. Benedict DeLeon will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore.

Mrs. Lawson died June 11, 1998, at her home.

Born Aug. 28, 1923, in Pass Christian, Miss., she was a Vacaville resident for more than 40 years. She was a wife, mother and homemaker.

She was a lifetime member of Women of the Moose in Vacaville and an active member of the Squadron Wives Club of Travis Air Force Base. She was also a member of Vacaville Seniors.

Mrs. Lawson was an avid bingo player and enjoyed arts and crafts.

Mrs. Lawson is survived by her sons, Barry of Henderson, Nev., Alvin of Shawnee, Okla., Joseph of Atascadero and Patrick of Vacaville; daughter, Elizabeth Martin of Vacaville; brother, Lee Sprinkle of Pass Christian; sisters, Viola Carco of Pass Christian, Fronal Oestricher and Floretta Durel, both of Long Beach, Miss. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Vacaville Paramedic Fund, 650 Merchant St., Vacaville 95688.

Andrew E. Burtzlander

Funeral services for Andrew E. Burtzlander, 79, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Pastor Ben Randall of New Hope Church will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Burtzlander died June 20, 1998, in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Born March 31, 1919, in Cleveland, he moved to Vacaville 37 years ago. He had 22 years combined service in the Navy and Air Force; at the time of his retirement he was a master sergeant in the Air Force. After retiring from military service, Mr. Burtzlander worked in the Bay Area as chief of quality control for Airco Temescal. For the last seven years he served as a volunteer in the pharmacy at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base.

He was a member of the Noncommissioned Officers Association, National Association of Uniformed Services, and the American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed fishing, flying, listening to music and traveling with his family.

Mr. Burtzlander is survived by his wife, Lilo of Vacaville; daughter, Monika of Vacaville; sister, Elsi Radler of Lake Constance, Germany; sister-in-law, Friede Bartlett of Kansas City, Mo.; and numerous friends.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Dollie Mae Green

A memorial service for Dollie Mae Green, 78, of Fairfield will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Full Gospel Church, 715 Claire Ave., Rio Linda.

Pastor Doris Murphy will officiate. A private inurnment will follow.

Mrs. Green died June 16, 1998, at Sunrise Care Center of Fairfield after a long illness.

Born Sept. 22, 1919, in Missouri, Mrs. Green was a longtime resident of Vacaville before moving to Fairfield four years ago. She worked as a minister at the Full Gospel Mission of Vacaville for 35 years.

Mrs. Green is survived by her daughter, Judy Smith of Benicia; brothers, James of Fairfield and Russell of Paradise; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home.

Matthew Edward Bauser

A Mass of the Angels for infant Matthew Edward Bauser will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The Rev. Benedict DeLeon will preside. A private interment will follow.

The baby was born at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield on June 17, 1998, and died on June 20, 1998.

He is survived by his parents, Tom and Jenny of Dixon; maternal grandmother, JoAnn Jelinski of Vacaville; paternal grandparents, Tom and Marcella of Fair Oaks; maternal great-grandmother, Anna Jelinski of Ocean Gate, N.J.; maternal great-grandparents, Josephine and Milton Boertman of Island Heights, N.J.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Nadeau Family Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Martha Jean Johnson

Funeral services for Martha Jean Johnson, 69, of Sacramento will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Pastor Milton Steck of Trinity Baptist Church in Vacaville will preside. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Ms.  Johnson died June 19, 1998, in Sacramento after a brief illness.

Born June 29, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., she resided in Vacaville before moving to Sacramento where she lived for the past 45 years. She was retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles where she worked for 30 years.

She is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Silas Groulx of Vacaville; nephew, Michael Groulx of Vacaville; nieces, Laura Scalabrino, Cynthia Cavins, and Leigh Webster, all of Vacaville, and Leslie McCardle of Arizona; six grand-nieces and five grand-nephews; two great-grand-nephews and one great-grand-niece.

Ms.  Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Helen Johnson; sister, Bettye Clark; and niece, Paula Bessex.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today in McCune Garden Chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento 95817.

Robert Carlton Scheu Sr.

Funeral services for Robert Carlton Scheu Sr., 63, of Vacaville will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Temple Baptist Church, 600 E. Tabor St., Fairfield.

Pastor Frank Booth will officiate. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Scheu died June 20, 1998, in his home after a sudden illness.

Born March 27, 1935, in Wellington,  Texas, he moved to Vacaville 30 years ago. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 20 years. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Mr. Scheu is survived by his wife, Kay of Vacaville; daughters, Debby Daum of American Canyon, Denise Stepp, Kathryn Keith, and Mellissa Baker of Union, Ky.; sons, Robert Carlton Jr. of Fort Bragg and Shane of Vacaville; mother, Alice Holbert of Amarillo,  Texas; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to Temple Baptist Church Youth Fund.

George Francis Green

There will be private funeral services for George Francis Green, 77, of Vacaville.

Mr. Green died at home June 21, 1998, after a long illness.

Born Jan. 14, 1921, in Colorado, Mr. Green was a Vacaville resident for 37 years. He retired from civil service in 1981. He was an Air Force captain, retiring in 1961 after 20 years of service due to a disability. He was a member of the Flying Sergeants-Army Air Corps Enlisted Pilots Association, the Retired Officers Association and the American Legion. He was a former member of the BPOE and Moose Lodge.

Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Mary; stepson, Dean Hall of Benicia; stepdaughters, Cindy Hall of Santa Cruz and Mary Lou Carr of Napa; brother, Pat of Colorado; and sisters, Marianna Hockett and Shirley Campbell, of  Washington.

Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

Emmy Maria Thiecke

Funeral services will be private for Emmy Maria Thiecke, 73, of Vacaville.

Mrs. Thiecke died June 23, 1998, after a long illness.

Born March 25, 1925, in Sawa Loento City, Sumatra, Indonesia, she was a Vacaville resident for 31 years.

Mrs. Thiecke is survived by her husband of 50 years, Albertus; sons, Bert and Kris of Vacaville, and Karl of Holland; daughters, Barbara  Schmidt of Esparto, Mira Lincoln of Dixon, Dawn Barlow of Riverside and Denise of Vacaville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

Berniece R. Brown

No formal services will be held for Berniece R. Brown, 83, of Fairfield. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Arizona.

Born Dec. 7, 1914, in Beaumont, Kan., Mrs. Brown died June 22, 1998, at the Winsor House Convalescent Hospital in Vacaville after a long illness. She lived in Fairfield for 21 years.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker for several years. She also worked as a cook on various ranches in the area. In the 1960s, she drove a school bus for Armijo High School, and she worked in the school cafeteria.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her sons, Robert E. of Esparto and Davis L. of Dixon; sisters, Dorothy Crosswhite of Fontana and Anita of Kansas; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James in 1993.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Delphia Ava Buck

Memorial services for Delphia Ava Buck, 86, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McCune Garden Chapel. The Rev. Earl Gibbings of Countryside Community Church will preside. Burial will be private.

Born April 24, 1912, in Missouri, Mrs. Buck died June 11, 1998, in Vacaville after a brief illness. She had lived in Vacaville the past 18 years.

Mrs. Buck was a sales clerk at Liberty House in Oakland for 10 years. She was a member of Wheels and Walkers of Fairfield, the Adult Blind Club and the Visually-Impaired of Suisun.

Mrs. Buck is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Frank Blake of Vacaville; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Dee of Clovis and Alan and Stacy Booth of San Mateo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gus and Emma Carey of Millbrae, Chester and Dorothy Carey of Warrensburg, Mo., Ervin and Dorothy Carey of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers, Nelson Carey of Centertown, Mo., and Clyde Carey of  Washington, Mo.; granddaughter, Deborah Molaug of Sunnyvale; granddaughter and husband, Laura and Jim Saalwachter of Woodland; grandson and wife, Bob and Lisa Luman of Vacaville; great-grandchildren, Craig and Christopher Molaug of Redding and Crystal Molaug of Sunnyvale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert William 'Bob' Lord

A memorial mass for Robert William "Bob" Lord will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Dixon.

Born Aug. 2, 1926, in Medford, Mass., Mr. Lord died June 18, 1998, in Spokane, Wash. He was 71.

Mr. Lord was retired from AT&T, and was a 25-year volunteer for the Dixon Volunteer Fire Department.

He served in the South Pacific on Manus Island as a radio man in World War II. This experience led him to Dixon in 1953 to work for AT&T as a telephone communications operator.

He became an active member of the Dixon Volunteer Fire Department and was named the first "Firefighter of the Year" in 1961. His friends in Dixon came to call him "Good Lord" for his entertaining character.

He moved to Spokane, Wash., in 1986 and retired from AT&T in 1988 after 35 years of service. He was an avid ham radio operator for many years and operated under the call name "W6UUG".

Mr. Lord is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jean; sons, Bob and Chris, both of Dixon, and Barry of Spokane; daughters, Linda Maria of Twain Harte, and Laurie of Dixon; grandchildren, Love of Davis and Amanda, Christie Irissarry and Lisa, all of Dixon, and Oran of Spokane, Wash.; sister, Dorothy Sylvester of Marshfield, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by sons, Daniel and William; grandson, Michael Lord-Martin; and first wife, Mary.

Donations may be made to the Dixon Volunteer Fire Department.

His services in Spokane were handled by The Cremation Society of  Washington.
