 Jackson Orrell Murphy Sr.
Longtime Siskiyou County resident,  Jackson Orrell Murphy Sr., passed away Friday, June 4, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Redding.
 Jackson was born in Magnolia, Ark. on Sept. 29, 1930, to Arthur and Irma Murphy. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 3 years during the Korean Conflict.
 Jackson worked close to 30 years for the California Highway Patrol, retiring in 1981. He was past president of the Montague Rotary Club and a member of the Copco Lake Sportsman's Association. He was very community oriented and was actively involved with the Juvenile Justice Commission in Yreka.
 Jackson was an avid hunter. He loved spending time with his family and friends hunting in the local outdoors. He was a good man and was always there for anyone who needed him.  Jackson was a friend to all and loved by many.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helen Murphy of Lake Shastina; sons and daughters in-law,  Jackson Jr. and Cathy Murphy of Montague, Michael David and Karen Murphy of Lake Shastina; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Bosch of West Rutland, Vermont; brothers, Robert Murphy of Magnolia and Arthur Murphy of Texarkana,  Texas; sister, Irma Lou Ramey of Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; two great -grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 8 at Girdner Funeral Chapel. Private interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd. Ste. 1010, Rockville, MD. 20852-9813.

Dave Hein
Gazelle resident, Dave Hein, 97, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, after losing a battle with cancer.
Dave was born March 17, 1906 near Wing, N.D. to Jacob and Regina (Gackel) Hein. He was the oldest of eight children. He married Katie Schneider on Nov. 4, 1928. They had 4 children.
In the early 1930's they moved from the Wing area to Stockton, being the first of their families to move west. In 1952 they made their home in Gazelle. There Katie lost her battle with cancer on Oct. 11, 1983. They were married 55 years.
Two years later, he met and married Pauline Wilson on Sept. 7, 1985. Their union brought together eight children and their spouses.
Dave and Pauline enjoyed many hours together playing marbles, card games and especially dominos. They traveled some while he was still able to drive. They had a very full life together and loved having family and friends drop by. He will be greatly missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline, of Gazelle; children and step-children and their spouses, Irvin and Pat Hein of Centralia, Wash., Viola and Frank Alessio of Sacramento, Alice and Joe Smith of Gazelle, Judy and Smoke Oakley of Yreka, Lola and Mac Gilliam, Bob and Sandy Wilson, and Geo Quigley, all of Gazelle; two brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Marie Hein of Lodi, brother Reuben Hein of Belmont; brother-in-law Ray Schneider of Lodi, sister-in-law Edna Knowles of Oakdale; and one step-sister and her husband, Irene and Larry Barnett of Modesto; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Dave was preceded in death by wife Katie; daughter Ruth Johnson, step-daughter Wanda Quigley; brothers, John, Eddie, Benny, and Rynold Hein; sister Martha Scherbenske; and step-brothers, Orville and Ray Horst.
Services will be held 11 a.m., June 7 at the Gazelle Grange Hall. Interment will follow at the Gazelle Cemetery. Pastor John Wetzig will be officiating.
Donations may be made in Dave's memory to the Mercy Cancer Center (Mount Shasta), the Gazelle Grange or Madrone Hospice Memorial, 255 Collier Circle, CA. 96097.

Maxine Anita Foster
Longtime Yreka resident, Maxine Anita Foster, 71, passed away at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Ore., on Wednesday, June 4, 2003.
Maxine was born Nov. 8. 1931, the daughter of Wallace and Lyda Cardoza. She attended school in Yreka and was a high school cheerleader. She married Larry Foster in September of 1951.
Maxine was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The children in her family were her greatest source of pride, from watching them participate in sporting activities to taking care of her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Larry; sons and daughters in-law, John and Nancy, Jim and Jolene of Yreka and Larry and Cindy of Klamath Falls; grandchildren, Stacey, Doug, Ben, Cole and Kaylea Foster, and George Clink; great-grandchildren, Samantha, McKenzie, and Calina Foster; a sister, Betty Cook of Klamath Falls, Ore.; Betty's daughters, Cathy Vandendoel and Linda Laustalot, and Linda's children, Nicole and BJ; as well as other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., June 6 at Girdner Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 841 Hartnell, Redding, CA. 96002, or to one's favorite charity.

Arthur Bernard 'Art' Rust
Long-time Siskiyou County resident, Arthur Bernard "Art" Rust, 90, passed away at his home on June 3, 2003.
Art was born in Gary, Minn. on Dec. 11, 1912 to Hans and Aletha Rust. He was raised in Minnesota.
Art was married to Arlene Lindom in Pelican Rapids, Minn. on May 11, 1946. He lived in the Pelican Rapids and surrounding area for 43 years. The couple lived in Yreka from 1955 to 1970, living in Fort Bragg from 1970 to 1974, and living in Ukiah from 1974 to 1979, then moving to Big Springs in 1979.
Art worked for Erickson and James in Yreka from 1955 to 1970, until they closed down. He worked in Fort Bragg and Ukiah until he retired in 1979.
Art was veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of VFW in Pelican Rapids; and also a member of the Grenada Berean Church.
Art loved dancing, bowling, fishing, going for drives, working on cars and and going for his donuts. He loved to go to Ma & Pa's for a donut twice a day.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of Big Springs; son Bruce and his companion, Penny Little of Yreka; son Dale Rust of Big Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Mallory of North Aurora, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jim Truttman of Little Shasta; daughter-in-law Rozanne Rust of Concord; a brother, Henry Rust of Fairfield; two sisters, Francis Huseby, and Dora Mostue, both of Pelican Rapids; grandchildren, Eric Rust of Willows, Tara and her companion David Bowman of Fort Bragg, and Darin Mallory of North Aurora; five great-grandchildren, Kayla Bownan, Danny and Madison Mallory and Reggie and Shaylene Rust; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Art was preceded in death by two brothers, Orie and Elmer Rust; and a sister, Edna Bukken.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Frances Ellen Kouts Rippon
Siskiyou County native, Frances Ellen Kouts Rippon, 89, passed away at her home in Weed on June 21, 2003.
Frances was also known to friends and family as "Sally." She was born in Yreka on Dec. 29, 1913 to John Henry Kouts and Lois Orpha Dombaugh Kouts.
Frances grew up in Montague, attending elementary school there and graduated from Yreka High School. She was married to Cyril Bristow Rippon on Dec. 19, 1931 in Medford, Ore. The couple lived in Yreka until they moved to Weed in 1944.
In 1945 Sally and Cyril purchased the Weed Press operating it as a family weekly newspaper until 1970, when the paper was sold to the Mt. Shasta Herald. During the time that the couple owned the newspaper, Sally worked as a bookkeeper. She also worked the ads and community events for the newspaper.
Sally did needlework and made many pictures from them. She was an avid reader, housekeeper, and cook.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Cyril Rippon; a daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor Adele and Jared Tipton Wilmarth of Yreka; four grandchildren, Yvonne Wilmarth Womack of Corning, Randy Wilmarth of Salem, Ore., Brett Wilmarth of Tracy and Brock Wilmarth of Twin Falls, Idaho; and 11 great grandchildren, Nicole and Jeremy Womack, Meagan, David Bruder Jr., Derek, Sean, Amber, Shelby and Zack Wilmarth and Heidi and Zack Jackson.
Sally was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine A. Kouts; and a brother, William L. Kouts.
Graveside service and interment will be held 2 p.m., June 27 at Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka, with Pastor Jack Ralston officiating.

Rhonda Louise McCall Bray
Siskiyou County resident, Rhonda Louise McCall Bray, 41, passed away in Fairchild Medical Center on June 18, 2003, after a brief illness.
Rhonda was born in Hendersonville, N.C. on Feb. 1, 1962 to Wallace and Avaline McCall. Her family moved to Siskiyou County when she was one-year-old.
Rhonda was a very giving person. She loved to walk, and play dice and cards.
Survivors include her children, Tommy, Trisha and Tasha Bray, all of Yreka; two brothers, Steve McCall of Yreka, and Eugene "Gene" Duncan of Concord; a sister, Teresa McCall of Yreka; nephews, Ronnie Hitinger and Ricky Metcalf both of Mount Shasta, Eugene "Little Gene" Duncan, and Joshua Duncan, both of Concord; a niece, Teresa Duncan of Concord.
In addition, she is survived by the Sanders of Yreka; her extended family, Sami Winckler of Yreka, Donna Watson and family of Marysville, Cherri Dominguez and family of Rio Linda, Bobbi Warner and family of Yreka, Lisa Loomis and family of California and Missouri; her great aunt, Billie Ledbetter of Yreka, and her children, Joel, Sylvia, Greg, Sue and Haskel; numerous other nieces and nephews; and many other family members in the area.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her mother, Avaline Duncan; father Wallace Stokes McCall; Auntie Avis, Auntie Bug, Uncle Dude, Uncle Jerry, Ricky Gregory and Granny.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., June 28 at Upper Greenhorn Park with Wendell Seward officiating. A potluck will follow the memorial service in the park and no alcohol or drugs.
Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
