Nathen James Jr.

A memorial service for Nathen James Jr., 71, of Suisun City will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The Rev. Henry Petterson of Fresno will officiate. Mr. James will be inured in Alabama.

Born March 27, 1927, in Bessemer, Ala., Mr. James died Aug. 30, 1998, at his Suisun City home after a brief illness.

He served in the Army from 1945 to 1951. In 1952, he was transferred to the Air Force and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base, where he worked as a mechanic. He retired from the Air Force in 1965.

He lived in Fairfield for five years and in  Washington, D.C., for eight years.

He loved working on cars and enjoyed fishing. He was an amateur boxer in his youth. He focused on his children and grandchildren after he retired.

Survivors include his daughters, Kimberly Coleman of Suisun City and Deborah of Fairfield; sisters, Naomi Murphy of Alabama, Gloria Marshall and Louise Brooks of Ohio and Daisy, of Alabama; brother, Richard of Ohio; grandchildren, Dominique and Dezmon Coleman of Colorado, Megan and Celeste Hardy of Fairfield, Kendra Coleman of San Francisco and Wendell Coleman Jr. of Mountain View; nieces and nephews, Herman and Ricky Lunzy of Alabama, Judy Smith of Ohio, Jackie Rainge of Ohio, Mario, Eddie and Gregory Brooks of Ohio, Winifred Jenens of Ohio, Gloria Youngblood of Ohio, Renee Brooks of Ohio and Vanesa Anderson of Arizona.

Marcell K. Thomas

A memorial service for Marcell K. Thomas, 37, of Suisun City will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Fairfield.

The Rev. Don Clementin will officiate. Interment will be private.

Born Aug. 8, 1961, in West Columbia,  Texas, Mr. Thomas died Aug. 30, 1998, in Fairfield after a short illness.

He lived in Suisun City for two years.

He graduated from Vanden High School in 1979. He liked basketball and dominoes. He built and upgraded personal computers.

He worked at the Department of Veterans' Affairs in Oakland as a fiscal accountant for 18 years.

He was a very active Jehovah's Witness minister.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda of Suisun City; sons, Christopher Coney of Oakland and Rodney Thomas of Suisun City; daughter, Melanie Allen of Suisun City; brothers, Kevin and Thomas of Fairfield, and Vincent of Pittsburgh; sisters-in-law, Kim of Pittsburgh and Angie and Bonita McCain of Suisun City; sister, Dawn of Sacramento and brother-in-law Michael McCain of Fairfield; father, Jimmie of Fremont and mother, Verna Dixon of Fairfield; grandmother, Everett Flannel of  Texas; mother-in-law, Lottie McCain of Suisun City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Rudolph Cosse

A Mass of Christian Burial for Rudolph Cosse, 65, of Vallejo will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church. Burial will be in Skyview Memorial Lawn.

Mr. Cosse died Aug. 28, 1998, at home after a short illness.

Born Sept. 20, 1932, in  Louisiana, he lived in Vallejo for 25 years. He worked as a butcher at the Naval Commissary at Hamilton Field for 15 years, retiring in 1996. Previously, he served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years, retiring in 1973 as a senior master sergeant. He then went to Mare Island Naval Shipyard, working in Shop 02 before going to Hamilton Field. He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict and Vietnam era. He was a member of St. Vincent's Church and the Air Force Sergeants Association.

Mr. Cosse was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne, in 1989. He is survived by sons, Harold (Revilina) of Vacaville, Michael of Vallejo and Frederik (Tonie) of Ohio; sisters, Yvonne Rugen, Marie Christopher, Lucille Smith and Irish Smith, all of  Louisiana; brothers, Wilton Smith and Godfrey of  Louisiana; grandchildren, Christopher, Harold, Phillip, Freddy and Anya.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Colonial Chapels.

Recitation of the Rosary will be on today at 8 p.m. at Colonial Chapels.

Joan G. Mack

Funeral services for Joan G. Mack, 80, of Vacaville will be in Frost,  Texas. Inurnment will be at Frost Cemetery.

Ms. Mack died Sept. 1, 1998, in her home after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 15, 1917, in Frost, she moved to the area many years ago. She worked as a teacher for the Vacaville Unified School District.

Ms. Mack is survived by her cousins, Patsy and Bill Gartman of Frost; many other cousins and very special friends in Vacaville.

Memorial contributions can be made to NorthBay Hospice, 1101 B. Gale Wilson Blvd., Fairfield 94533.

Arrangements are by Neptune Society of Northern California.

Charlotte 'Tee' Smith McGrew

Private graveside services will be held for Charlotte "Tee" Smith McGrew, 101, at the Silveyville Cemetery in Dixon.

Pastor Wesley Nordman of the Dixon Community Church will conduct the service.

Mrs. McGrew died on Sept. 1, 1998, in Dixon after a brief illness.

Born in Ellijay, Ga., on Oct. 20, 1896, Mrs. McGrew moved to  Oklahoma where she met her husband, Tom. In 1918, they moved to Dixon.

Mrs. McGrew was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She also did beautiful handiwork.

Mrs. McGrew is survived by her son, Kenneth of Dixon; grandchildren, Mary Ann Spangenberg of Pebble Beach, Peggy Smith of Colusa, Rodney of Vacaville, Robert of Davis, Timothy of Woodland, Marsha Schafer of Rio Vista, John of Las Vegas and Mary Margaret Liedtke of  Texas; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, and sons, Emory, Ralph and Carven.

Willis 'Gene' Dillman

A memorial service for Willis "Gene" Dillman, 68, of Culbertson, Mont., will be 4 p.m. Thursday at the Community United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Vic Matson will preside. Burial will be private.

Born Dec. 4, 1929, in Hesston, Kan., Mr. Dillman died Aug. 31, 1998, in Culbertson, Mont., after a sudden illness.

Mr. Dillman was in the Air Force from 1951 to 1954, and was married to Muziette Copeland Clossen.

Mr. Dillman earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education.

Upon his honorable discharge from the military in 1954, he started his career as an educator in Fairfield, where he was an elementary teacher, physical education instructor and coach of many sports, including swimming and scuba diving. He was an elementary, middle and high school principal in Fairfield for 23 years.

In 1977, Mr. Dillman left Fairfield and took a job as superintendent of schools in  Whitehall, Mont. He married Shirley Farner in 1982 and they moved to Culbertson, Mont., where he concluded 37 years as a teacher and administrator.

He was a member of the Fairfield Jaycees and a 17-year member of the Fairfield Lion's Club. He joined the Culbertson's Lion Club and served as zone chairman for two years. He was also the Lion's Club district governor from 1997-1998.

He had a great love for hunting and fishing and enjoyed cooking wild game. He was known for his humorous stories and his ability to touch and enrich the lives of others.

Mr. Dillman is survived by his wife, Shirley of Culbertson, Mont.; sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Suzanne of Fairfield, and Steve of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Pete of Oakley; stepson, David Farner of Fairfield; stepson and his wife, Albert and Debbie Farner of Point Richmond; stepdaughter and her husband, Debbie and Mike Robinson of Georgetown,  Texas; brothers and sister-in-law, Jim and Beverly of Emporia, Kan., and Tom of Wichita, Kan.; sisters and brother-in-law, Marge and Marvin Craig of Hutchenson, Kan., and Bev Gerding of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and grandchildren, Cady, Elizabeth and Michelle, all of Fairfield, Danielle and Nick, both of Oakley; and step-grandchildren, Cara Beth and Lora Farner, both of Fairfield.

Contributions can be made to the Guide Dogs for the Blind; or the Culbertson Lion's Club, P.O. Box 42, Culbertson, Mont., 59218.

Maxine R. Blackwood

There will be no formal services for Maxine R. Blackwood, 75, of Fairfield, who died Aug. 28, 1998, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo.

She will be buried in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born March 25, 1923, in Longrun, Mo., Mrs. Blackwood moved to Fairfield from St. Louis 38 years ago.

She worked as a civilian employee for the Army during World War II.

After the war, she was a food services supervisor for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District in the kitchen at Dover Elementary School.

She enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Blackwood is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Carlos Blackwood-Aguillera of Fairfield; son, Danny of St. Louis; sisters, Fay Roberts of Springfield, Mo., and Helen Gardner of Thornfield, Mo.; brothers, Ellis Hobbs of Springfield and Rex Hobbs of McKinny,  Texas; and granddaughter JorJa Bennett of Fairfield.

Johnny M. Jackson

Funeral services for Johnny M. Jackson, 68, of Vacaville wre held Saturday at Vaca Hills Chapel.

The Rev. David Crone of Vaca Valley Christian Center will preside. Burial will be private in the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born July 5, 1930, in Douglass,  Texas, Mr.  Jackson died Sept. 3, 1998, at his Vacaville home after a long illness. He moved to the area 14 years ago.

Mr.  Jackson was a communications supervisor for Pacific Gas Transmission for 36 years.

He was a member of the Vacaville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 1967.

Mr.  Jackson is survived by his wife, Carmen of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Rosalinda and Charles Peckham of Vacaville; daughters, Diana Rocha of San Ramon, and Sandy and Nikki, both of Vacaville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Billie and Benny Berry and Sarah and Joe Murray, all of Lufkin,  Texas; grandchildren, Charles Peckham Jr. and his wife Amber, Daniel Peckham, Olivia Brazil and her husband Jay, Jesse Neuer, Mario Rocha, and Sean Rocha; and great-grandson, Bailey Jay Brazil.

Carmen Dominick Vangeli

Funeral services for Carmen Dominick Vangeli, 79, of Fairfield will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1050 North  Texas St., Fairfield.

The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate. Burial will follow in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Mr. Vangeli died Sept. 3, 1998, in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born in Italy on Feb. 13, 1919, he moved to Fairfield 11 years ago.

He worked as an aircraft tire inspector at Thompson Aircraft Tire Corp. in New York for 30 years. He served as a chaplain for Sons of Italy, Northern Solano Lodge No. 2534 and an usher at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where he was a member.

He also belonged to Fairfield's Bocce club and loved gardening, especially growing flowers.

Mr. Vangeli is survived by his wife, Petronilla of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Walter Witthofft of Vacaville; sisters, Maria DiCarlo of Long Island, N.Y., and Nettie Poreta of Italy; nephew, Franco Artusa of Redwood City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home Chapel, 1850 W.  Texas St., Fairfield, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sons of Italy will conduct a memorial service there at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, Redwood Empire Chapter, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa 95402.

Louis Anthony Mandarino

Funeral services for Louis Anthony Mandarino, 84, of Vacaville will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel.

The Rev. Leo Nelson will officiate. Burial will be private.

Mr. Mandarino died suddenly on Sept. 3, 1998, in Vacaville.

Born Jan. 8, 1914, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a decorated war hero from World War II, having served in Germany from 1941 to 1945. Mr. Mandarino retired from Basic Vegetable Products as a foreman after 35 years of service and had lived in Vacaville for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his cousins, Gerald and Ty Altieri, Leonard and Audean Altieri, and Ernie and Bev Fontes, all of Vacaville; and longtime friends, Tom and Carolyne Gill of Vacaville.

Edward Archer Duncan Jr.

Funeral services for Edward Archer Duncan Jr., 66, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Entombment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park.

Mr. Duncan died Sept. 4, 1998, in Sunrise La Mariposa Convalescent Hospital after a short illness.

Born May 8, 1932, in Egan, La., he resided in Fairfield for 26 years. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He worked as a research technician for Shell Oil Company in Richmond. He then owned and operated Franklin Paint and Wallpaper Store in Fairfield for 30 years. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Suisun No. 4113, and was an avid bingo player.

Mr. Duncan enjoyed horse racing and sports.

Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife, Peggy of Fairfield; son, Rich Veum of Santa Cruz; mother, Loree LaCoss of Ocean Shores, Wash.; half-sisters, Patti LaCoss of Ocean Shores, Wash., Marian Stiles of Hercules; stepdaughter, Leasa Warstler of Fairfield; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bryan Braker Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Kaiser Hospice Program, 925 Sereno Drive, Vallejo 94590.

LeAnn Jensen

Graveside services for LeAnn Jensen, 24, will be 10 a.m. today at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Dec. 2, 1973, in Mountain View, Ms. Jensen died Sept. 3, 1998, after a six-month battle with cancer. She lived in Fairfield for a few weeks.

She attended Slater Elementary, Graham Junior High and Mountain View High School, and was planning to be married this month.

Ms. Jensen is survived by her parents, Thomas Christian and Bonnie Jean Jacobs of Fairfield; grandparents, Dale Christian and Patricia Evelyn Long; sisters, Lisa Kay Gray of Fairfield, Wendy Miller of San Jose, Susan Elizabeth Gallegos of Fairfield; brothers, Trescott Dale, Eldred "Jake" Warren, and Thomas "Chris" Christian, all of Fairfield; children, Breanna Lynn Santiago and Joaquin Daniel Santiago; and her fiance, Felix John Santiago.

Arrangements are by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Helen Morgan

Graveside funeral services for Helen Morgan, 72, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Friday in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

The Rev. Stan Sanderson will officiate. Interment will be at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Morgan died Sept. 7, 1998, at David Grant Medical Center after a short illness.

Born June 18, 1926, in Powers, Ore., she lived in Fairfield for 36 years. She worked in civil service in Okinawa, and at Travis as a secretary while traveling with her husband, Edward, during his Air Force career. She was also a homemaker for 52 years. She was past president of the 12th Air Force NCO Wives Club, past vice president of the Travis Air Force Base NCO Wives Club, member of the Women of the Moose Lodge in Fairfield and the Moose Lodge Campers Club.

Mrs. Morgan enjoyed camping and fishing.

Mrs. Morgan is survived by her husband, Ed of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Tom Mayer of Carpinteria; and grandson, Matt Mayer of Carpinteria.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Northern California Unit, P.O. Box 21-4477, Sacramento 95821-0477.
