Masako 'Susie' Kretsch

A memorial service for Masako "Susie" Kretsch, 73, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

The Rev. Stan Sanderson will officiate. Inurnment will be private at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield.

Born March 30, 1925, in Sendai, Japan, Mrs. Kretsch died Sept. 23, 1998, at NorthBay Medical Center.

A resident of Fairfield for the past 35 years, Mrs. Kretsch was involved with the Japanese-American Citizen League and the American Japanese Social Club. She was active in the Solano Dance Group and the Shinnyo-En Temple in Burlingame.

Born in Japan, she completed her education there. Mrs. Kretsch married in 1952 and moved to Fairfield from Tokyo in 1963. She was a mother and homemaker for 46 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Frances Swegles of Modesto and Christina Roberts of Fairfield; son and daughter-in-law, Willard Jr. and Susan of Fairfield; sisters, Yoneko Shoji and Motoko Suzuki both of Japan; brother, Hashime Shoji of Japan; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the Arthritis Foundation of Northern California, 657 Mission St., Suite 603, San Francisco 94105.

Fernand J. Turenne

A Mass of the Resurrection for Fernand J. Turenne, 71, of Suisun City will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Church, 1050 N.  Texas St., Fairfield.

A private burial will take place in Bend, Ore.

Mr. Turenne died Sept. 24, 1998, in Winnemucca, Nev., from injuries sustained in a car accident.

Born on June 26, 1927, in St. Pierre, Manitoba, Canada, he lived in Suisun City for the past 27 years.

He was the owner and operator of Valley Tire and Brake in Fairfield from 1971 until 1986, when he retired. He was also a member of Holy Spirit Church in Fairfield and was once active in Fairfield's Kiwanis Club and Lions Club.

Mr. Turenne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Yvonne of Suisun City; daughter, Teri Turenne of Bend, Ore.; son, Gerald of Oregon; brothers, Paul of Canada and Ray of Kentucky; sisters, Pauline, Yvette and Margarite, all of Canada, and Lynn of Southern California; and three grandchildren.

A private visitation will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento 95817.

Tony J. Vasquez

A Mass of Christian Burial for Tony J. Vasquez, 79, of Vacaville will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Ave.

The Rev. Augenio Lopez of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate.

Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Vasquez died on Sept. 26, 1998, in Fairfield after a brief illness.

Born May 11, 1919, in Los Angeles, he lived in Vacaville for more than 32 years. He worked for American Home Foods for 30 years. He enjoyed watching television and taking long walks.

Mr. Vasquez is survived by his daughters, Alice Vargas of Vacaville and Maria C. Banaag of Vallejo; brother, Jessie of Vacaville; five grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Stilla Maria Allen

A Mass of Christian Burial for Stilla Maria Allen, 65, of Fairfield will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate. Interment will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born July 29, 1933, in Hilgertshausen, Germany, Mrs. Allen died Sept. 27, 1998, in Fairfield.

A resident of Fairfield for the past 28 years, Mrs. Allen worked as an accountant for Kmart for 25 years, retiring in 1994. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her companion, Don Wilson of Fairfield; daughters, Calmay Hageman of Lorain, Ohio, and Bobbie of Fairfield; sons, Thomas of Fairfield and Jesse of Amherst, Ohio; sister, Hildegard Nelson of San Jose; brother, Butch Gerstner of San Jose; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W.  Texas St., Fairfield 94533.

John Harka

A private memorial service will be held for John Harka, 68, of Fairfield. A private inurnment will follow.

Born April 30, 1930, in Hellerton, Pa., Mr. Harka died Sept. 22, 1998, in Fairfield.

A resident of Fairfield for 48 years, Mr. Harka served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954. Mr. Harka worked in the construction business for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Maudie of Fairfield; daughter, Deborah of Guerneville; son, Michael John of Fairfield; brothers, Joe, George and Martin all of  Pennsylvania; four stepsons; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the NorthBay Hospice Program, 1200 B. Gale Wilson Blvd., Fairfield 94533.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Ruth E. Hooper

Graveside services for Ruth E. Hooper, 89, of Vacaville will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elmira-Vacaville Cemetery.

Born Aug. 12, 1909, in Zurich, Switzerland, Mrs. Hooper died Sept. 28, 1998, in Sacramento.

A resident of Vacaville since 1949, she was a homemaker all of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Anna of Sacramento; grandson and his wife, Mark A. and Ruth Alustiza of Sacramento; granddaughters, Michelle Alustiza of Arcata and Erica of Sacramento.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley and grandson, James.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Helen Lewis

A memorial service for Helen Lewis, 85, of Vacaville will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist. Pastor Milton Steck will officiate. Burial will be private.

Born Oct. 11, 1912, in  Louisiana, Mrs. Lewis died Sept. 30, 1998.

A resident of Vacaville since 1943, Mrs. Lewis worked as a medical receptionist for many years in Vacaville. She was a charter member of both the First Baptist Church of Vacaville and Trinity Baptist Church. She was also past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an artist and enjoyed reading, painting and listening to music.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Jerry Hildabrand of Vacaville and Donna and David Hamilton of Rio Vista; sister, Patricia Snipe of Shreveport, La.; brother, Raymond Brown of California; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred J. Lewis in 1991.

Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 401 W. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville 95688.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Dorothy Mae Romagnino

Memorial services for Dorothy Mae Romagnino, 72, of Fairfield will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church in Fairfield. Inurnment will be private. The Rev. John Duncan will officiate.

Born July 24, 1926, in Los Angeles, Mrs. Romagnino died Sept. 29, 1998, in Vallejo.

A bookkeeper for Turner Metal for 48 years, she lived in Fairfield for 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Domenic of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Danny Reno of American Canyon; sister, Pat Way of Arizona; brothers, Donald Galloway of North Carolina and Charles Galloway of Los Angeles; grandchildren, David and Anthony Pennock and Chet and Christina Mosley, all of Vacaville.

Memorial contributions can be made to Kaiser Hospice Make a Wish Foundation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home.

Dorothy M. Letalien

Funeral services for Dorothy M. Letalien, 80, of Vacaville were held in Maine. A service is being planned in Vacaville.

Born Dec. 21, 1917, in Limestone, Maine, Mrs. Letalien died Sept. 13, 1998, in Skowhegan, Maine.

A resident of Vacaville since 1977, Mrs. Letalien was an active volunteer for David Grant Medical Center and the Vacaville Museum. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Cancer Dressing and the Leisure Town Entertainers. She was known as the clown, "Star Duff," and the Betsy Ross of Leisure Town, and the "Most Elegant Junk Rummage Sale" sales lady in Leisure Town.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene; daughters, Mrs. Thomas Hyde, Mrs. Michael Cameron and Mrs. Stephen LaPointe; grandson, Christopher Cameron; three sisters; brother; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harry.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Leisure Town Memorial Fund, 100 Sequoia Drive in Vacaville, 95687.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smart and Edwards Funeral Home in Skowhegan, Maine.

Walter Goodlow

Funeral services with military honors for Walter Goodlow, 60, of Suisun City will be 11 a.m. today at Chapel No. 1 at Travis Air Force Base. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Jan. 25, 1938, in Monroe, La., Mr. Goodlow died Sept. 28, 1998, in Suisun City.

A resident of Suisun City for 23 years, Mr. Goodlow served in the Air Force and retired as a master sergeant. He was a member of the Tri City Elks and Veterans of Vietnam.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen of Suisun City; and nieces, Janice Allen and Jackie Worthy of Monroe, La.

Theron H. Jensen

Funeral services for Theron H. Jensen, 93, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 480 Wrentham Drive in Vacaville. Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born July 6, 1905, in Cowley, Wyo., Mr. Jensen died Oct. 2, 1998, in Sacramento.

A resident of Vacaville since 1961, Mr. Jensen retired from civil service at Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Verda of Gridley, Eldon and Pat of Vacaville, Arnold and Karen of Chico, Kenneth and Vicki of Turlock, Edward of Sacramento and Grant of Sacramento; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Vern Moulton of Sacramento; 34 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veva.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

George J. Volgar

A memorial service for George J. Volgar, 74, of Sacramento will be at 2 a.m. Sunday at North Sacramento United Methodist Church, 650 El Camino Ave.

The Rev. Brandon Austin will officiate. A private inurnment will be held.

Born Jan. 13, 1924, in Joliet, Ill., Mr. Volgar died Sept. 21, 1998, in Sacramento.

A resident of Sacramento for the last 30 years, he served in the Air Force for 25 years. Mr. Volgar retired as a chief master sergeant at Travis Air Force Base.

After his military service, he continued on at Travis as the assistant air freight officer until he retired after 28 years of service. He had a total of 53 years of government service. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Sacramento; sister, Florence Grepares of Joliet; brothers, Paul and Jim of Joliet; 26 nieces and nephews; and many friends and colleagues in the Fairfield area.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert.

Memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Lloyd Julius Webster Sr.

Funeral services for Lloyd Julius Webster Sr., 82, of Fairfield will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Chapel Center at Travis Air Force Base.

The Rev. Joseph B. Davis will officiate. Mr. Webster will be entombed in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Mr. Webster died Oct. 3, 1998, at his home in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born Aug. 30, 1916, in Omaha,  Texas, he graduated from  Texas College in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in history. In 1943, Mr. Webster enlisted in the U.S. Army and transferred to the Air Force shortly thereafter, serving as a flight engineer. Mr. Webster flew several missions overseas during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

After retiring from the Army in 1971 as a chief master sergeant, Mr. Webster worked for Beverly's Bail Bonds in Vallejo, serving as a bail bondsman from 1971 to 1974. For the next 10 years, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1984.

Mr. Webster was a member of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World. He was a charter member and the first exalted ruler of the Tri-City Elks Lodge No. 1962. Mr. Webster also had memberships in the Green Berets, the Louis B. Goins patrol, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the St. Stephen C.M.E. church in Fairfield - where he was Sunday school superintendent - and was a steward and member of the board of trustees of St. Stephen C.M.E. Church.

Mr. Webster was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by a daughter, Toni Webster McIntosh of Fairfield; sons and daughter-in-law, Lloyd J. Webster Jr. of Mariposa and Vincent A. and Sheila Webster of Fairfield; two brothers, Herman Webster of Bakersfield and Lester S. Webster of Houston,  Texas; and grandsons, Jared McIntosh and Dominique Webster of Fairfield.

Mr. Webster was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian J. Webster in 1997, and daughter Paulaire L. Webster in 1994.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, and an Elks memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home.
