Duane Edward Sparks

Graveside services for Duane Edward Sparks, 63, of Nice will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Burial will follow.

Born Feb. 20, 1935, in Rugby, N.D., Mr. Sparks died Oct. 28, 1998, in Lakeport.

A resident of Nice for the last seven months, Mr. Sparks previously lived in Vacaville for 20 years. He was a machinist foreman for Weigman & Rose for 10 years. He loved bowling, fishing and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by is wife, Shirley of Nice; sons and daughters-in-law, Benjamin and Mona and Donald and Rhona, all of Fairfield; daughters, Christine Uribe of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Candy and Fermin Uribe of Vacaville.; brother, Gary of Fairfield; sisters, Shirley Milliken of Suisun City and Sharon Garner of Palermo; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Lakes.

Henry E. Cannon

There will be no funeral services for Henry E. Cannon, 87, of Vacaville.

Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Cannon died Oct. 29, 1998, at home following a long illness.

Born Nov. 11, 1910, in Chicago, Mr. Cannon moved to the area 13 years ago. He owned and operated a dry-cleaning business for five years.

There is no visitation planned. Arrangements are by Vaca Hills Chapel.

William Wesley Wood Jr.

Graveside services for William Wesley Wood Jr., 92, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Vallejo.

Mr. Wood died Oct. 31, 1998, at Vaca Valley Hospital following a short illness.

Born Aug. 30, 1906, in Indiana, he moved to Solano County 25 years ago. Mr. Wood owned three Shell gasoline stations for 25 years.

A member of the St. Louis Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, he also enjoyed fishing, playing cards and shooting pool.

He is survived by his companion Helen Winings of Vacaville; son, William of Clear Lake; three brothers; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Lodge.

Olga Dillbeck

A memorial service for Olga Dillbeck, 66, of Fairfield, will be 6:30 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church in Suisun.

The Rev. Chuck McKinney will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Dillbeck died Nov. 1, 1998, in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born March 15, 1932, in Liverpool, England, she moved to Fairfield in 1972. She was a homemaker for 40 years.

Mrs. Dillbeck was a long-time member of the First Christian Church. She was also a past member of the Chatterboxes.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas of Fairfield; daughters, Myriam O. Elento of Fairfield and Karen Anne Athen of Colorado Springs,  Colo.; sons, Thomas Jr. and Michael of Vacaville and John of Fairfield; brother, George Reid and mother, Ethel Reid of Liverpool; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. today in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home Chapel.

Hildegard 'Hilda' Gevedon

Funeral services for Hildegard "Hilda" Gevedon, 74, of Fresno will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Northwest Church in Fresno.

Mrs. Gevedon died Nov. 1, 1998, in Fresno.

She lived in Vacaville from 1984 until 1990 and was a homemaker. Mrs. Gevedon also was active in First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.

Survivors include sons, Jerry of Fresno, Michael of Tampa, Fla., Jeffrey of Redding and Mark of Vacaville; daughter, Elizabeth of Fresno; sister, Helen Newland of Three Rivers, Mich.; sister in-law, Beatrice Scholten of Miami; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maj. Omer Cecil "Jeff" Gevedon.

A special gather for family and friends will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of St. Agnes, 1303 E. Herndon Ave., Fresno 93720.

Carroll Edward McFarland

Graveside services with full military honors for Carroll Edward McFarland, 73, of Weed, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Mr. McFarland died Oct. 30, 1998, at the VA Medical Center in Livermore.

Born March 24, 1925, in Randolph, Maine, he moved to Weed in 1988. Mr. McFarland was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bunker Hill. He was a signalman and band member and he participated in many campaigns, including Tokyo, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Philippines.

He worked in the meat industry for 50 years. He was an employee at the George A. Hormel Co., the Blondheim Co., Dewied International and Hobart Corp.

He was a professional drummer and past member of many musician's unions. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Scottish Rite.

Mr. McFarland was an avid fisherman, hunter, and he was a Oakland Raiders fan as well as a loving father and friend to many.

Mr. McFarland is survived by his daughter, Dianne Blanda of San Juan Capistrano and daughter in-law, Emilia McFarland of Vacaville; sons, Daniel of Vacaville, Patrick of San Lorenzo and son in-law, Greg Blanda of San Juan Capistrano; sisters, Gail McGee-LeHaye of Carrabassett Valley, Maine, and sister-in-law, Melissa McGee of Palermo, Maine; brother, Dale McGee of Palermo and brother in-law, Dick LeHaye of Carrabassett Valley; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento 95817.

William W. Wood

Graveside services for William W. Wood, 92, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. today at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Vallejo.

Mr. Wood died Oct. 31, 1998, at VacaValley Hospital following a short illness.

Jose Infante Aguilar

A Mass of the Resurrection for Jose Infante Aguilar, 47, of Fairfield will be held at 2 p.m. today at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Inurnment will be private. The Rev. Umberto Penunurui will officiate.

Born July 8, 1951, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Mr. Aguilar died Nov. 1, 1998, in Suisun City.

A Fairfield resident for one year, Mr. Aguilar worked as a self-employed recording engineer in Suisun City. Music was his passion. He played guitar, piano and bass. He wrote original compositions and loved photography and computers.

He is survived by his wife, Maria of Fairfield; daughters, Melissa of Los Angeles and Eliza of Fairfield; sons, Carlos of Los Angeles and Daniel of Fairfield; mother, Maria of San Diego; sisters, Guadalupe Hopkins of Ohio, Gabriella McCord of Redding, Maite Smith of Reno, and Mercy Derry of  Oklahoma; brothers, Mario of San Diego and Robert Haegendoreens of Bell Gardens; and grandson, Vincent Moya of Los Angeles.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today with a rosary at 8 p.m. at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Jo Janice Oliver

There will be no formal services for Jo Janice Oliver (Poore), 73, of Medford, Ore.

Born June 8, 1925, in  Oklahoma City, Mrs. Oliver died Oct. 19, 1998, in Medford.

A longtime resident of Rio Vista, Sacramento and Fairfield, she was known as one of the "story ladies" at the Vacaville library. She loved life, was an avid reader, organist, seamstress, cook and craftswoman.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Oliver-Poore of San Jose and Toni Cox of Medford; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Vickie Poore of Vacaville; niece, Roberta Baker of Grants Pass, Ore.; grandchildren Rob and Tania Karstetter, Ryan Duca, Paul and Jesse Poore; nephews, Jason Baker; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Solano County Library Foundation, Vacaville branch, 1020 Ulatis Drive, Vacaville 95687.

John Billy Peebles

Funeral services for John Billy "Johnny" Peebles, 72, of Fairfield will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Masonic Temple in Fairfield. Interment will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. Officers from the Suisun Lodge No. 55 F. & A.M. and the Rev. Stan Sanderson will officiate.

Born March 16, 1926, in Cotton Plant, Ark., Mr. Peebles died Nov. 3, 1998, in Fairfield.

A Fairfield resident for 47 years, Mr. Peebles served in the Navy as a boatsman mate from 1943 to 1946. He worked for the Arkansas Power and Light, R.E.A., in Newport, Ark., as an electrical lineman. He worked in civil service at Travis Air Force Base and retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinez. As an electrician, he helped open the Benicia Industrial Park and lived and worked in the park for eight and a half years before returning to Fairfield. He was a member of the Suisun Lodge No. 55 F. & A.M., the Ben Ali Shrine, Oakland Scottish Rite, a charter member of the Montezuma Shrine Club and former member of the Solano Shrine and the Benicia V.F.W. He loved fishing and raising money for the Shriners hospitals.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Maxine of Fairfield; son, Robert of San Diego; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Lee Thomas of Vallejo; brothers, Tom and A.P. "Pete" of Hickory Ridge, Ark.; sister, Alma Sherrell of Newport, Ark.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in California and Arkansas.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Masonic Temple, 412 Travis Blvd.

Memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd., in Sacramento 95817.

Ann Marie Thurston

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ann Marie Thurston, 30, of Vallejo will be 9 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Vallejo. Inurnment will be private at Ukiah Cemetery.

Born May 3, 1968, in Santa Rosa, Ms. Thurston died Nov. 3, 1998, at home.

A Vallejo resident for two years, Ms. Thurston graduated from St. Helena High School. Her hobbies were fashion and food and her favorite color was pink.

She is survived by her father, Earl of Kirkland, Wash.; sisters, Bridget of Poulsbo, Wash., and Nina of Menifee.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nina in 1995.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Twin Chapels Mortuary in Vallejo with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Louis Balestra

Memorial services for Louis Balestra, 72, of Vacaville will be 2:30 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel. The Rev. Vic Jenkins of Unity Church of the Valley will officiate.

Born Oct. 24, 1926, in  Washington D.C., Mr. Balestra died Nov. 3, 1998, in San Francisco.

A Vacaville resident for the last 14 years, Mr. Balestra was a member of Carpenters Union Local 180 in Vallejo.

He is survived by his wife, Nora of Vacaville; son, Tim of Tempe, Ariz.; stepsons, Jeffery and Jeremy Moseley of Vacaville and James Moseley of Dixon.

Elma Kam Kaleikau

A Mass of the Resurrection for Elma Kam Kaleikau, 85, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The Rev. Vincent O'Reilly of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Jan. 17, 1913, in Honolulu, Mrs. Kaleikau died Nov. 4, 1998, in Vacaville.

A resident of Vacaville since 1996, she lived in Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii, for 83 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Williams Mortuary in Honolulu. She enjoyed sewing and reading. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society at St. Teresa Church in Honolulu.

Mrs. Kaleikau is survived by her husband of 56 years, William of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Bernadeen and Roberto Valdez of Vacaville; stepdaughter, Madeline Lee of Rocklin; stepson and daughter-in-law, Francis and Vicky of Cupertino; sister, Velma Weltmer of Fullerton; grandsons, Gavin Valdez of Vacaville and Andrew Lee of San Francisco; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call between 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Mary Emily Wilson

There will be no funeral services for Mary Emily Wilson, 67, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Wilson died Nov. 5, 1998, in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born Dec. 5, 1930, in Orange, N.J., she lived in Vacaville for nine years.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband of 41 years, Floyd of Vacaville; sons, Robert and James, both of Vacaville; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew and Alyssa, all of Vacaville.

Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel.
