Samuel Visayan Villar
Funeral services with military honors for Samuel Visayan Villar, 60, of Suisun City will be 10 a.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Burial will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.
Born Aug. 25, 1938, in Sevilla, Ilocossur, the Philippines, Mr. Villar died Nov. 10, 1998, at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base.
A resident of Suisun City for nine years, Mr. Villar served in the Navy from 1964 to 1989. He served in San Diego until 1985 and then transferred to Treasure Island in San Francisco and served there until he retired. He loved fishing, travel, music and movies, and was a member of the Travis Air Force Base 30 Club.
He is survived by his wife, Teresita of Suisun City; daughters, Rosemarie and Rachael, both of Suisun City; son, Ronnie of Suisun City; mother, Magdalana of the Philippines; sister, Letecia Nool of the Philippines; and brother, Profecio of the Philippines.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
Zola Faye Berriz
Funeral services for Zola Faye Berriz, 73, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Rockville Cemetery.
Mrs. Berriz died Nov. 13, 1998, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Vallejo after a long illness.
Born Oct. 15, 1925, in Cottonwood, Texas, she lived in Fairfield for 26 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She helped establish Better Breathing Group at Kaiser Hospital.
Mrs. Berriz is survived by her husband, Joseph of Fairfield; son, John Johnston of Richmond; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary of Vacaville; daughter, Elizabeth of Suisun; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Max Hobbs of Seneea, Mo.; brothers, Earl Joy of Amarillo, Texas, Merle Joy of Hurst, Tex, and Gene Joy of Ft. Worth, Texas; sisters, Mamie Ruth Collingsworth of Abilene, Texas and Marlene Fixico of Humphries, Okla.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
Virginia G. Copple
There will be no formal services for Virginia Garetson Copple, 51, of Vacaville, at her request.
Mrs. Copple died Nov. 14, 1998, after a hard-fought battle with leukemia.
Born Dec. 22, 1946, in Ventura, she was a fifth-generation California native with ties to Vacaville's pioneer McKevitt family. She retired from Electronic Data Systems of Dallas, working in Sacramento, in 1993 to join her husband in business. They purchased and moved into the historic family home in Vacaville, becoming the third generation of family to continuously live there.
Mrs. Copple earned a degree in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, then moved to Washington state to pursue a career in computer work and data processing. There, she met and married Terry "Troll" Copple, an accomplished artist and sculptor.
The couple returned to the East Bay, where Mr. Copple developed Eastbay Sculpture and Lighting, a business successful at the manufacturing of antique reproduction lighting fixtures popular with the design trade.
She was involved in community volunteer work, including Friends of the Library. She served on the board of the Saturday Club, and was active in the Vaca Valley Garden Club and Museum Guild.
Mrs. Copple is survived by three brothers, Greg of Seattle, Bill and Charles, both of San Jose; sister-in-law, JoAnn of San Jose; and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996.
Arrangements are by the Neptune Society of Sacramento.
Edward P. Herman
Memorial services for Edward P. Herman, 81, of Vacaville were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 14 in Vaca Hills Chapel.
The El Cerrito Albany Lodge No. 686 F&AM will officiate. Inurnment will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
Mr. Herman died Nov. 8, 1998, in Vacaville Convalescent Hospital after a short illness.
Born Feb. 9, 1917, in Fresno, he had lived in Vacaville since 1993. He worked as fire chief for the city of El Cerrito for 34 years, was a second lieutenant in the Air Force and served in World War II and Korea. He was past president of California Fire Chiefs Association, American Legion and Rotary Club.
Mr. Herman loved camping, fishing and was active in Boy Scouts.
Mr. Herman is survived by his former wife, Virginia of Vacaville; daughters, Donna Brouch of Vacaville and Teri of Orinda; son, Mike Herman of Pleasanton; grandchildren, Kristin and Patrick of Pleasanton and Jacob Brouch of Vacaville; three sisters from Fresno; three brothers from Fresno; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward Lee Herman
Memorial services for Edward Lee Herman, 50, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bishop James Enis of LDS Church will officiate. Burial will be private.
Mr. Herman died Nov. 12, 1998, in his Vacaville home after a long illness.
Born April 17, 1948, in Akron, Ohio, he moved to the area eight years ago. He was manager for California Comfort Heating and Air for eight years.
Mr. Herman enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and antiques. He was an avid Will C. Wood football fan.
Mr. Herman is survived by his wife, Glenda of Vacaville; daughters, Shanna Burke, Mary, Kristi, all of Vacaville; sons, Stephen and Edward of Vacaville; son-in-law, John of Vacaville; stepfather, Rudy Tomin of Yucca Valley; brother, Donald Tapp of Ohio; sister, Linda Baudreaux of La.; grandchildren, Kayla and Johnathon, both of Vacaville.

Harry Jolly
Funeral services for Harry Jolly, 76, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel.
Pastor Gerald Harder of Elmira Baptist Church will preside. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Upperlake Cemetery
in Upperlake.
Mr. Jolly died Nov. 15, 1998, in Fairfield after a long illness.
Born June 3, 1922, in Broadus, Mont., he lived in Vacaville for 36 years. He served in the U.S. Army for four years, Bureau of Reclamation for 13 years. He owned and operated Jolly's Ice Cream Service which he and his wife ran for 32 years in Vacaville. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Needles.
Mr. Jolly is survived by his wife of 36 years, Emma of Vacaville; daughter, Francy Perry of Huntington Beach; brother, John of New Mexico; sisters, Dorothy Rusher of Hot Springs and Vivian Lee of Ashland, Ore.; nephew, Glen and wife, Margaret Howard of Livermore; nephew, Jerry and his wife, Delores Williams of Needles; niece and husband, Carolyn and Don Morgan of Pittsburg.
Jose Martinez
Funeral services for Jose "Angel" Martinez, 94, of Dixon will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Silveyville Cemetery. The Rev. Maurice O'Brien will officiate.
Born Aug. 2, 1904, in Sinaloa, Mexico, Mr. Martinez died Nov. 15, 1998, in Dixon.
A Dixon resident for 45 years, Mr. Martinez worked for 20 years in the construction business, most recently with Tiechert Construction Co. He was also a member of the Comite de Benificencia of Dixon. He loved gardening and visiting with friends and family.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Maria of Dixon; daughters, Gloria Nice of Richmond, Maggie Vasquez of Rio Linda, and Cleo of Sacramento; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph in 1974.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Maria San Nicolas
A Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Mendiola San Nicolas, 76, of Suisun City, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield.
The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery
in Long Beach.
Born March 22, 1922, in Guam, she died Nov. 13, 1998, in NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield. She lived in Suisun one year after being a resident of Carson for 25 years.
She was a homemaker. She was active with Chamarrow Clubs in Southern and Northern California and in the Catholic Church.
Mrs. San Nicolas is survived by her daughter, Genny Muller of Ontario; grandson, Joshua Ponder of Anaheim and granddaughter, Lelanie Muller of Wisconsin.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. today also at the funeral home.
Robert Edward Pryor
Funeral services for Robert Edward Pryor, 66, of Fairfield will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Starlight Baptist Church in Vallejo. Interment will be at Rockville Cemetery. The Rev. Aaron Ward will officiate.
Born Aug. 24, 1932, in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Pryor died Nov. 11, 1998, in Vallejo.
A resident of Fairfield for 15 years, Mr. Pryor served in the Navy for four years. He was a member and deacon of the Starlight Baptist Church, and was also a past member of the Fairfield High Football Boosters Club and the Fairfield High Scarlet Brigade Marching Band Boosters. He loved to fish and play dominoes and loved sports, especially the Oakland Raiders.
He is survived by his wife, Rosheila of Fairfield; daughter, Lynnisha of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Stanley Parker of Oakland; sons, Robert of Decatur, Ga., Christopher of Sacramento, and LeRoy of Fairfield; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Frank Knight of Tracy; sister, Cheryl Wilson of Marina; brother, Otis Lawson of Gary, Ind.; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

A memorial service for Sylvia Miranda Thomason, 87, of Dixon will be held at Peterson Funeral Chapel in Coleraine, Minn., Nov. 28 at 11 a.m.
Inurnment will be private.
Born June 15, 1911, in Gemmell, Minn., she died Nov. 8, 1998, of heart failure in the Itasco Nursing Home in Grand Rapids, Minn.
Mrs. Thomason attended schools in North Homes, Minn.
She moved to McCloud in 1940 and married Joe T. Thomason in 1947. The couple operated a trucking business in Yreka before moving to Dixon, where she lived more than 30 years.
She was active in the Dixon United Methodist Church, Aurora Rebekah Lodge, Chapter 246 of Dixon; Order of the Eastern Star Golden Rod Chapter 241 of Vacaville; Dixon Women's Improvement Club; Dixon Senior Citizen Club and enjoyed various hobbies.
Mrs. Thomason is survived by her sister, Nora Hecimovich of Bovey, Minn.; brother, Harley Dahl of Mizpah, Minn.; two stepchildren, Thurmon of Redding and Pauline Hermsen of Oceanside; sister-in-laws, Maxine Dahl of Coos Bay, Ore., and Margaret Dahl of Superior, Mont.; one granddaughter and one great-grandson, plus several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Thomason was preceded in death by her husband.
Dorothy Vera Jones
Graveside services for Dorothy Vera Jones, 73, of Dixon will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Silveyville Cemetery
in Dixon.
Mrs. Jones died Nov. 15, 1998, in Sacramento after a long illness.
Born April 10, 1925, in Cass Lake, Minn., Mrs. Jones lived in Dixon and Solano County the past 18 years. She was a homemaker for more than 50 years. She enjoyed gardening, she was an excellent cook, enjoyed shopping and was a very devoted mother. Mrs. Jones also was an active member of the Crime Watch in Dixon.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her sons, Donald Bragg of Sacramento and Steven of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Kelly of Dixon and Linda Conner of Eureka; and many other family members.

Jerry L. Phipps
Funeral services with military honors for Jerry L. Phipps, 59, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Friday in Fairfield Funeral Home.
A chaplain from the 349th Air Force Reserves will officiate.
Mr. Phipps died Nov. 14, 1998, in NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield after a long illness.
Born March 23, 1939, in Adrian, Mich., Mr. Phipps lived in Fairfield the past 18 years. Mr. Phipps was a safety technician in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years. He had served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, retiring as a technical sergeant. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Mr. Phipps is survived by his wife, Lenora of Fairfield; daughters, Cindy Trantham, Lisa Barban, and Melissa, all of Fairfield, and Jeannine Wright of Sacramento; sons, Michael of Fairfield and Richard Wright of Sacramento; sister, Elizabeth Leino of Oregon; brothers, William and John, both of Michigan; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Fairfield Funeral Home.
Walter Afholderbach Jr.
At his request there will be no services for Walter Afholderbach Jr., 68, of Fairfield.
Inurnment will be also be private.
Mr. Afholderbach died Nov. 18, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
Born June 3, 1930, in Norwood, Mass., he moved to Fairfield 35 years ago. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic for 35 years, and then worked civil service at Travis for 22 years.
Mr. Afholderbach is survived by his wife, Alice of Fairfield; daughters and son-in-laws, Susan and John Morrison of Fairfield and Nancy Afholderbach and Wayne Chunn of Pittsburg; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Carol of Fairfield; grandsons, Kenneth and Jack of Fairfield.
