Werner L. Burkhardt

Graveside services for Werner L. Burkhardt, 86, of Vacaville, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Burkhardt died Feb. 18, 1999, in Fairfield, after a long illness.

Born Jan. 17, 1913, in Ohio, he lived in Solano County for two years. He was a choir instructor and music teacher in Ohio and also in Denver. He was a general contractor in New York, moved to California and was a valve salesman and an independent heating equipment salesman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Burkhardt enjoyed playing the piano, pipe organ, classical music and collected stamps and coins.

Mr. Burkhardt is survived by his son, Jim of Vacaville; daughter, Linda Gleason of Arizona; grandchildren, Robin Dooley of Walnut Creek, Adele of Vacaville, Wendy of Vacaville, Laura  Taylor of Boston and Kyle  Taylor of Sacramento; and a sister, Ruth Dorfman of Dayton, Ohio.

Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel.

Louis Diaz

Graveside services for Louis Diaz, 66, of Fairfield, will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Suisun Fairfield Cemetery.

The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela of Holy Spirit Catholic Church will officiate.

Mr. Diaz died Feb. 20, 1999, in Sunrise La Mariposa Convalescent Hospital after a long illness.

Born April 15, 1932, in Jalisco, Mexico, he lived in Fairfield for 57 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1953 during the Korean War. He also worked as a delivery driver for United Parcel Service for 20 years. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Church. Mr. Diaz also enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Diaz is survived by his wife, Lillian Mason-Diaz of Fairfield; daughters, Michelle Baza of Sacramento and Andrea Thomas of Fairfield; son, Louis of  Washington; brothers, Mike of Novato and Ed of San Mateo; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Eleanor Anne Locati

A Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor Anne Locati, 85, who was a descendent of an early Vacaville pioneer family, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Rita's Church in Fairfax.

Mrs. Locati died Feb. 6, 1999, in San Anselmo, after a long illness.

Born in Vacaville, Mrs. Locati was a 45-year resident of San Anselmo. She was a homemaker for her husband, Albert C. Locati, and their daughter, Christine Locati, who preceded her in death in February 1998. She was the daughter of Joseph and Louise Libonati of Vacaville.

Mrs. Locati was a member of St. Rita's Church. She loved cooking and sewing. She used to sew all her daughter's clothes.

Mrs. Locati is survived by her husband, Albert of San Anselmo, and her grandson, Justin Steeves of Molino, Ore.

Memorial contributions may be sent to a favorite charity.

Armand Joseph Martin Sr.

Services for Armand Joseph Martin Sr., 63, of Fairfield, will be held 10 a.m. Friday in Fairfield Funeral Home.

The Rev. Michael Downey of Holy Spirit Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield-Suisun Cemetery.

Mr. Martin died Feb. 21, 1999, in NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

Born Aug. 16, 1935, in New Orleans, La., he lived in Fairfield for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and was a bus driver at Travis Air Force Base for 20 years.

Mr. Martin is survived by his daughter, Wanda of Vacaville; sons, Armand Jr. and Ricky Sr. of Fairfield; grandchildren, Ricky Jr. and Miguel, both of Fairfield, David Curl Jr. and Alana Curl of Vacaville; sisters, Urusula Cuielette, Jean Matthews and Diane Carter, all of New Orleans; brothers, Arthur Jr., Theofield, Clinton Sr., and Rowland, all of New Orleans; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. in Fairfield Funeral Home.

Melvin O. 'Mel' Owens

There are no formal services planned for retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Melvin O. 'Mel' Owens, 80, of Vacaville.

Mr. Owens died Feb. 21, 1999, in Vacaville, after a long illness.

Born Feb. 26, 1918, in Clinton County, Ky., he later lived in Rockford, Ill., but has been residing in Placerville for the last 20 years.

He served in the Air Force for 25 years, fighting in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War and was a highly decorated pilot. He also flew in the Berlin Airlift and as a B-52 aircraft commander during the Cuban missile crisis.

He received his pilot training at a Royal Air Force Flight Training School in Ponca City, Okla., and was one of only a few American pilots to receive both U.S. and Royal Air Force pilot wings. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in 1948, 1957 and again in 1963 and 1968.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Rita Wilson of Placerville; sons, Jimmy Haug of Plainview, Minn., Dudley of Vacaville, and Jeff of Williamstown, Mass.; stepson, Bob Wilson of Whittier; and stepdaughter, Cherie Jewett of Carson City, Nev.

Hyacinthe Lena Boldt

There will be no services for Hyacinthe Lena Boldt, 90, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Boldt died Feb. 22, 1999, in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born Feb. 10, 1909, in Highland, Ill., she lived in Vacaville for 15 years.

Mrs. Boldt is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dale Mason of Vacaville; grandchildren, Diane and Tom Mason, both of Vacaville; great-grandson, Eric and wife Kearsten Weeks of Vacaville; great-great-grandson, Devin Weeks of Vacaville.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Activities Fund at Winsor House, 101 S. Orchard Ave., Vacaville, 95688.

Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel.

Martha Jane Chase

Memorial services for Martha Jane Chase, 70, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Friday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Chaplain W. Barnes of Solano County Sheriffs Department will officiate. Interment will be at St. Peters Cemetery, Stillwater, N.Y.

Mrs. Chase died Feb. 20, 1999, in Fairfield after a brief illness.

Born April 3, 1928, in Schenectady, N.Y., she resided in Fairfield for 40 years. She worked as a crossing guard for the city of Fairfield for eight years. She volunteered at the Suisun Senior Center for 15 years.

Mrs. Chase loved to play bingo, take trips to Reno and especially loved her family.

Mrs. Chase is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Liz and Don Tillson of Fairfield; Margaret and Paul Weidman of Sacramento; son, Gene of Fairfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Pat of Kelseyville and Ray and Liza of Fairfield; brother, Butch Carpentier of Scotia, N.Y.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Suisun Senior Center, 318 Merganser Drive, Suisun City, 94585.

Jean Hammon Durbin

Funeral services for Jean Hammon Durbin, 76, of Fairfield will be held in United Presbyterian Church in Valencia, Pa. Disposition will be at Lakewood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cheswick, Pa.

Mrs. Durbin died Feb. 20, 1999, at her home.

Born March 29, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she lived in Fairfield for two years. She worked for Hampton School District in Pittsburgh, Pa. and served in the U.S. Army in WWII. She was a member of VFW No. 7505 Ladies Auxiliary, Pittsburgh, and president of American Legion No. 474 in Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Durbin is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Kathryn of Fairfield; brother and sister-in-law, Eileen Foertsch of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Kathleen McIver of Richmond, Va., Tracy  Jackson of Fairfield, Laura Peters of Fresno and James and Joseph of Chicago.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W.  Texas St., No. 110, Fairfield, 94533.

W. Harwood 'Woody' Huffcut

A memorial service and inurnment for W. Harwood "Woody" Huffcut, 88, will be held at 11:30 a.m. March 1 at Alta Mesa Memorial Park, 695 Arastradero Road in Palo Alto.

Mr. Huffcut died Feb. 20, 1999, at his home in Carmichael after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Although a resident of Carmichael, Mr. Huffcut was a weekend and holiday resident of Vacaville, where he resided with his daughter Jan and son J.J. He enjoyed the time spent here with his family and friends.

Born in Castorland, N.Y., Mr. Huffcut attended Colgate University and then the law school at Cornell University. He graduated in 1934, and practiced law for 14 years in Peekskill, N.Y.

He served in World War II from 1942 until 1946 in the Judge Advocate General's Office and at Camp Beale near Marysville. He retired from active reserve duty after 21 years of service with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He also served as civilian counsel to the Military Sea Transportation Service.

Mr. Huffcut was preceded in death by his wife, Vernice, who died in 1995 after 65 years of marriage, and his son Ted, who died in 1993. He is survived by his daughter, Jan Clark of Vacaville; sons, J.J. Littlefield of Vacaville, and William H. Huffcut II of Florida.

Beverly Miller

There will be no services for Beverly Miller, 70, of Vacaville at her request.

Mrs. Miller died Feb. 16, 1999, at her home after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 28, 1928, in Salt Lake City, she was a longtime resident of Vacaville. She retired from Farmers Insurance in Merced.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her son, David of Vacaville; daughters, Barbara of Vacaville, Michele Kirk of Dixon and Kathleen of Pleasanton; sister, Janet Broussard of Salt Lake City; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Neptune Society of Northern California in Fairfield.

Lupe Flores Ramirez

Services for Lupe Flores Ramirez, 75, of Vacaville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Mission Bells of the Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries in San Pablo. Visitation is 7 p.m. today.

Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in San Pablo.

Mr. Ramirez died Feb. 21, 1999, in Vallejo of natural causes.

Born June 23, 1923, in Richmond, he lived in the west county for 73 years before moving to Vacaville two years ago. He attended Richmond High School and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Mare Island Naval Shipyard after 39 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 550 and St. Paul Catholic Church in San Pablo until 1997. He most recently belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vacaville. He was a musician and greatly involved in youth sport programs for 40 years and started the St. Paul School Athletic Program.

Mr. Ramirez is survived by his wife, Socorro M. Ramirez; daughters, Barbara of Vacaville and Julie of Richmond; sons, Rich of Grass Valley, Chris of Vacaville, and Michael of Emeryville; sister, Julia of San Lorenzo; brothers, Ramon of San Leandro and Richard of Moraga; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 631 Howard St., No. 520, San Francisco, 94105.

Clement D. Zahina

A memorial Mass for Clement D. Zahina, 83, of Suisun will be 2 p.m. Friday at Travis Air Force Base Chapel Center.

Catholic Chaplain Michael Weber of Travis Air Force Base will officiate. Inurnment with full military honors will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery following services.

Mr. Zahina died Feb. 16, 1999, in NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

Born Sept. 30, 1915, in Dubuque, Iowa, he lived in Suisun for 43 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and Korea and retired as a master sergeant after 20 years service at McQuire Air Force Base, N.J. He worked for the state of California as a correctional officer at San Quentin, Soledad and CMF for 14 years, retiring in 1976.

Mr. Zahina is survived by his daughters, JoAnn Varady of Union City, Ann Marie McGrath of Eldrige, Iowa and Ingrid Kluck of Freeport, Ill.; sisters, Marion Adams of Florida, Genevieve Buhk of De Kalb, Ill., and Madonna Peter of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, Joseph of Dubuque, Iowa and Howard of Sacramento; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa, 95402.

Edith A. Lamiranda

A celebration of life for Edith A. Lamiranda, 85, of Fairfield will be held at 2 p.m. March 4 at the Wednesday Club in Suisun.

Mrs. Lamiranda died Feb. 19, 1999, in NorthBay Medical Center.

Born Oct. 30, 1913, in Vacaville, she resided in Fairfield. She was a volunteer for 22 years at NorthBay Guild, setting a service record of by donating over 36,000 hours. She was a member of the Lions Club, Sons of Italy, Wednesday Club and Native Daughters of the Golden West.

Mrs. Lamiranda is survived by her son, David of Fairfield; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Imelda Caligiuri of Vacaville; and several nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made to a favorite charity.
