David Sebastian Martinez

Memorial services for David Sebastian Martinez, 44, of Fairfield will be 7 p.m. today in the Salvation Army Chapel in Fairfield.

Capts. Wayne and Patricia Wetter will officiate. Inurnment will be private in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Mr. Martinez died March 13, 1999, in NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

Born Feb. 21, 1955, in San Francisco, he lived in Fairfield for 23 years. He worked as a commercial painter for 20 years.

Mr. Martinez enjoyed fishing, sports and auto racing and was an avid 49ers fan.

Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Deborah of Fairfield; daughter, Donna Jean of Fairfield; sons, Gypsy of Suisun and David Jr. of Fairfield; father, Edward Don of Pacifica; brothers, Ed of Oregon, Jim of Pacifica, Bob of Arizona, and Greg of San Francisco; sister, Annette Weeck of Livermore; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

David Vasquez Ornelas

Funeral services for David Vasquez Ornelas, 78, of Vacaville will be private.

Mr. Ornelas died March 14, 1999, in Vallejo after a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 6, 1921, in Mexico, he lived in Vacaville and Solano County for 55 years. He served in the Army during World War II.

He worked at various ranches until he became self-employed as a labor contractor. He was also employed at University of California, Davis, in the farm services program, where many of the new varieties of fruits and vegetables and vines were developed.

Mr. Ornelas retired to his ranch in Vacaville where he planted a garden and loved to give vegetables to friends and relatives. His humor and friendship will be missed by all his many friends.

Mr. Ornelas is survived by his wife, Amparo of Vacaville; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Sylvia, and Richard and Carol, all of Vacaville; brother, Carmen; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jesse and a brother, Trinadad.

Rosary will be held at 5 p.m. today at St. Peter's Church in Dixon. The Rev. Maurice O'Brien will preside.

Arrangements are by Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

Daphne Cox

Funeral services for Daphne Cox, 85, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Monday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Jim Bredow of Cottonwood will preside. Burial will follow in Sunset View Cemetery in Berkeley.

Mrs. Cox died March 18, 1999, in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born in March 1914 in  Texas, she lived in Vacaville for the past 10 years. She worked for Bank of America as a supervisor for the stocks and bonds investment department before retiring. She was a member of the Moose Lodge of Richmond.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Russ DeHate of Vacaville; granddaughters, Suzanne Clark of Vacaville, Janine Herman of Cottonwood and Deanna Bickford of Oregon; grandsons, Ruty Baumert of  Washington, Robert Carpenter Jr. of Santa Rosa, Chuck Carpenter of Oregon, David Carpenter of Petaluma and Dan Carpenter of  Washington; 18 grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, and son, Robert Carpenter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in McCune Garden Chapel.

James Shelby  Jones Jr.

Graveside services with full military honors for James Shelby  Jones Jr., 76, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Monday in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Chaplain Maj. Aaron  Jones of Travis Air Force Base will officiate.

Mr.  Jones died March 18, 1999, in Mount Diablo Hospital after a short illness.

Born Jan. 3, 1923, in Gurley, Ala., he lived in Fairfield for 35 years. He served as master sergeant in the Navy for six years, the Air Force for 15 years, and retired in civil service at Travis Air Force Base in 1978.

Mr.  Jones was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He was a pipefitter for 13 years and retired. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 861, East Lincoln Lodge 210 of Lincoln, Neb., Scottish Rite of Sacramento, Ben Ali A Aonms of Sacramento and Shrine Club of Vacaville.

Mr.  Jones is survived by his wife, Jeannine of Fairfield; daughters, Ronda Button of Pleasant Hill and Karen Colson of Clear Lake; sons, Richard Janssen of Redding, Robert Janssen of Clear Lake and Randall Janssen of Antioch; sisters, Ruby Sanders of Huntsville, Ala., and Louise Angel of Redding; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edgar of Albany, Ga., on March 11, 1999.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 21-4477, Sacramento 95821-0477 or 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento 95817.

Theresa Ida LaPrade

Graveside services for Theresa Ida LaPrade, 83, of El Cerrito will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in San Pablo.

Mrs. LaPrade died March 17, 1999, in a Vacaville convalescent hospital after an illness.

Born Dec. 11, 1915, in Virginia City, Nev., she lived in El Cerrito for 78 years. She was a pharmacist at Kaiser Hospital for 33 years.

She was a member of St. John, The Baptist Catholic Church of El Cerrito, since 1918. She belonged to Mother of Perpetual Help and Fratlanza Women's Auxiliary of Oakland.

Mrs. LaPrade loved bowling and attending A's games with her husband.

Mrs. LaPrade is survived by her daughter, Toni Colip of Vacaville; sister, Angela Bena of Vacaville; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David, in 1969.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Judes, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, Tenn. 38148-0552.

Arrangements are by Chapel of the Mission Bells, San Pablo.

Frank Gill Marfil

Funeral services for Frank Gill Marfil, 66, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in McCune Garden Chapel.

Father Vincent O'Rielly of St. Joseph Catholic Church will preside. Interment will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Marfil died March 19, 1999, in Fairfield after an illness.

Born May 9, 1932, in Vacaville, he lived in Vacaville 66 years. He worked at Travis Air Force Base in civil service for 42 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Vacaville, Reedwooder of the Redwoods Accordion Club and the Golden State Accordion Club of Suisun.

Mr. Marfil enjoyed music and gardening.

Mr. Marfil is survived by his wife, Jytte of Vacaville; children, Darlene Reyes, Karen Cox, Rick, Denise Wells and Linda Gabel, all of Vacaville; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Maude Lopez and Mary O'Conell, both of Vacaville; and brothers, Hank of Sacramento and Antone of Vacaville.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday with rosary at 7 p.m. in McCune Garden Chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to donors' favorite charity.

Shirley Sarah Simpson

There will be no formal services for Shirley Sarah Simpson, 68, of Fairfield. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Simpson died March 18, 1999, in her home after a long illness.

Born Dec. 11, 1930, in New York City, N.Y., she lived in Fairfield for 34 years. She served in the Air Force for 14 years at the rank of major as a nurse anesthetist.

She left the service to begin her family in 1969. She later worked in general nursing for five years until she went back to school and obtained her master's degree in respiratory care at the University of California, San Francisco. She then worked as a public health nurse for Solano County until 1995. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Fairfield.

Mrs. Simpson enjoyed fishing with her husband.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by her husband, William H. of Fairfield; and son, William P. of San Francisco.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Dorothy Mae Gearns

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairfield Funeral Home for Dorothy Mae Gearns, 77, of Fairfield.

Chaplain Elaine Lehr of NorthBay Medical Center will officiate.

Mrs. Gearns will be buried at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born May 8, 1921, in San Jose, Mrs. Gearns died March 18, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

She lived in Fairfield for 14 years.

She was a San Jose resident most of her life, where she also attended school. She was a member of the Northwinds Quilters Club and the Thursday Card Club. She also worked at the Fairfield Senior Center and was active there.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Daniel Sullivan of Fairfield; son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Gilio of Winters; and niece, Candace Lubell of Santa Cruz.

Betty S. Keller

A celebration of life will be held for Betty S. Keller, 69, of Fairfield from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at her home.

Born Sept. 5, 1929, in Flint, Mich., Mrs. Keller died March 20, 1999, at home after a long illness.

She worked as a licensed vocational nurse and managed doctors' offices in Vallejo for many years.

She volunteered in places such as the Travis Air Force Base library and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Solano County. She was a member of the Wildlife Habitat of Suisun.

She enjoyed gardening and loved animals.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald; daughters, Charmele Magruder of San Francisco and Michele Brechlin of Dallas; sons, Ronald of Dallas, Ore., DeWayne of Seattle, Clayton of Vallejo and Charles of Harrisburg, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

Alene B. Lindley

Funeral and burial services for Alene B. Lindley, 82, of Vacaville will be held in Buckeye, Ariz.

Born March 30, 1916, in Tahlequah, Okla., Mrs. Lindley died March 20, 1999.

Before moving to Vacaville, Mrs. Lindley lived in Benicia.

She is survived by her sons, Franklin Pierce Jr. of Bay Point, Thomas Pierce of Centerpoint,  Texas, and Jimmie Pierce of Vacaville; brother, John Thomas Martin of Buckeye, Aria.; sisters, Mary Crepo of Hanford and Eunice Howe of Buckeye; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Josephine Reynolds McTaggart

Memorial services for Josephine Reynolds McTaggart, 88, of Martinez will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Congregational Church.

Mrs. McTaggart died March 20, 1999, in Fairfield.

Her family moved to Martinez from Montana in 1925.

She served as an assistant probation officer for Contra Costa County for two years prior to getting married. She was a full-time homemaker until she became the secretary for the Congregational Church in Martinez in the mid-1950s. She retired at the age of 82.

In addition to her professional and personal involvement in the church, Mrs. McTaggart was active in local charities and civic activities in Martinez.

She remained deeply devoted to her family throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, who died in 1964.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Jim Vangel of Vancouver, Wash., and Roberta and Larry Cooper of Fairfield; granddaughters and their husbands, Robin and Sam Aiello of Pleasanton, Leigh and Tim Fannin of Benicia, Jennifer and Keith Kilcoin of Portland, Ore., and Kim and Stan Prosser, also of Portland; and great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Alex Fannin of Benicia.
