Mary Constance Johnston

A memorial service for Mary Constance Johnston, 85, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Monday in Grace Episcopal Church.

The Rev. John Duncan of Grace Episcopal Church and Peter Farmer of Novato will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Johnston died April 21, 1999, at her home after a long illness.

Born Sept. 25, 1913 ,in Salinas, she lived in Fairfield for 20 years. She owned and operated her own beauty shop out of her home in Novato, and ran a chicken ranch while there with her first husband. She was a member of the Vallejo Elks Emblem Club No. 371 and Grace Episcopal Church in Fairfield.

Mrs. Johnston is survived by her nieces, Linda Benhard of Lancaster and Mary Kabayski of Marin; nephews, Leslie Edwards of San Francisco, Robert Edwards of Portland, Ore., Mike Locatetti of Marin, Edward Giachetti of Denver,  Colo., and Peter Giachetti of Burney; sister, Emma Giachetti of Burney.

Memorial contributions can be made to Grace Episcopal Church or donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Maxine Gwendolyn Tate

A family gathering for Maxine Gwendolyn Tate, 81, of Vacaville will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the home of Tom and Rory Tate, 520 Camellia Way, Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Tate died April 18, 1999, in Sacramento after a sudden illness.

Born Aug. 28, 1917, in  Oklahoma, she lived in Vacaville for seven years and was a longtime resident of Dixon. She worked for the University of California, Davis, for 10 years.

Mrs. Tate was an avid softball fan.

Mrs. Tate is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Rory of Vacaville; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and a daughter, Gwen Kissel.

Memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society, c/o Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Ave., Vacaville, 95688.

Jeffrey Thomas Bernard

A memorial service for Jeffrey Thomas Bernard, 47, of Vacaville was held Thursday in the Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Chris Knowles, a family friend, will officiate. Interment will be private.

Mr. Bernard died April 19, 1999, in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Born May 27, 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa, he lived in Vacaville for four years. He retired in 1998 with the rank of major from the United States Air Force after 23 years where he was a weather forecaster. In the last year, he had been a substitute teacher with the Vacaville Unified School District and also was attending Solano Community College and Heald Business College.

He graduated in 1983 from the University of Maryland. In 1986 he received his master's degree in systems management from the University of Southern California.

Mr. Bernard is survived by his wife, Margaret of Vacaville; daughter, Kimberly of Vacaville; son, Christopher of Santa Barbara; father, Thomas Bernard of Dallas,  Texas; mother, Velma Wente of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Ken Grier of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; half-brother, Craig of Plano,  Texas; half-sisters, Lisa Wente of Columbus, Ohio, Laura Wente of Houston,  Texas, Lisa of Springfield, Va., and Heather of Greensboro, N.C.; two nieces and one nephew.

Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Bernard's name to Browns Valley School, c/o Mrs. Jacqueline Pelton, 333 Wrentham Drive, Vacaville, 95688 or to the Vacaville Centennial Park Soccer Field Program, c/o Mr. John Thompson, city manager, 650 Merchant St., Vacaville, 95688.

Jackie Demaray

Funeral services for Jackie Demaray, 62, of Vacaville will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Pastor David Sotelo of Valwill preside. Burial will follow at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Demaray died April 21, 1999, peacefully in her home after a brief illness.

Born July 18, 1936, in Grand Junction,  Colo., she lived in Vacaville for 23 years. She was the owner of Demaray Pool Supply of Vacaville for 22 years.

Mrs. Demaray loved the California Lottery, cooking and helping other people. Her favorite pastime was cooking for family gatherings with her granddaugter, Brandie and great-granddaughter, Chelsie.

Mrs. Demaray is survived by her husband of 21 years, Dale of Vacaville; sons, Greg of Yuba City, Jeff of Santa Maria and Keith of Matthews, N.C.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Daisy Kreiter of Crescent City. She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Lee Loaper Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Attn.: Memorial/Honor Program, 1 St. Jude Place Bldg., P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, Tenn., 38148-0552 or the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation, 785 Market St., No. 400, San Francisco, 94103.

Roland F. Roberts

A private graveside service for Roland F. Roberts, 84, of Vacaville will be at a later date in Topeka, Kan.

Born Oct. 1, 1914, in Muscotah, Kan., Mr. Roberts died April 10, 1999, in Sacramento after two bouts with double pneumonia.

Mr. Roberts attended Rose Hill Grade School in Muscotah, and his high school years were spent in Holton, Atchison and Leavenworth, Kan. In January 1940, he married Phyllis  Whiteman and they moved to Southern California, where he worked at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank as a sheet metal mechanic during World War II.

In 1962, Mr. Roberts and his wife moved to Northern California. He worked for six years at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, and then retired in 1969 due to hearing loss. He and his wife then moved to Vacaville, where they lived for 33 years in Leisure Town. On Jan. 7, 1999, they celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Phyllis, son, Gary of San Lorenzo; daughter, Janeane of Cyprus; grandchildren, Christine West, Evonne, Denise and Paul Fenn; five great-grandchildren; and many cousins in Kansas and Colorado.

Lucille Irene Uldall

There will be no formal services for Lucille Irene Uldall, 87, of Vacaville at her request. Interment will be next to her husband in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Mrs. Uldall died April 22, 1999, in Winsor House Convalescent Hospital after a long illness.

Born Nov. 18, 1911, in Pasadena, she lived in Vacaville for 12 years. She was a registered nurse for 10 years and a homemaker. She was a graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing in San Francisco, class of 1934. Before moving to Vacaville, she resided in Kentfield for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Uldall was an avid Oakland A's, San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers fan.

Mrs. Uldall is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Judge and Mrs. Rick Uldall of Vacaville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jorgen J. Uldall on Aug. 29, 1993.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Glaucoma Research Foundation, 490 Post St., San Francisco.

Arrangements are by Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Winifred R. Beiling

There will be no services for Winifred R. Beiling, 84, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Bieling died April 22, 1999, in Vacaville after an illness.

Born Feb. 3, 1915, in Birdsil, N.Y., she lived in Solano County for 13 years. She and her husband owned and operated the Stone Haven Inn in Barbados for 12 years.

Mrs. Bieling was an avid gardener and was known for her irises. She never met anyone she wouldn't call a friend.

Mrs. Bieling is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alberta and Fred Crum of Dixon; daughter, Winifred Ann of Michigan; grandchildren, Laura, Alicia and Brian Crum of Dixon; a great-granddaughter, McKenna Carpenter of Dixon.

Arrangements were made by McCune Garden Chapel.

Leonard A. Lamkin

A memorial service for Leonard A. Lamkin, 97, of Vacaville will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Dr. David Bradley, will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Lamkin died April 21, 1999, peacefully in VacaValley Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 12, 1901, in Minnesota and raised in Iowa, he lived in Vacaville and Solano County for 22 years. He worked as a technician for Western Electric Co. and then AT&T until retiring in 1966.

Mr. Lamkin is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Dr. Edwin Bradley of Vacaville; grandchildren, Michael of Omaha, Neb., David of Chicago, Lisa of Oakland and Sarah of Rock of Davis; and six great-grandchildren.

Joseph B. Benskin

A memorial service for Joseph B. Benskin, 82, of Fairfield will be at 1 p.m. at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Downey of Holy Spirit Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be Tuesday at St. Charles Memorial Gardens in St. Charles, Mo.

Born Aug. 13, 1916, in Missouri, Mr. Benskin died April 22, 1999, in Fairfield.

A Fairfield resident for three years, Mr. Benskin worked in the sales department of Lincoln Engineering Co. for 28 years.

Mr. Benskin is survived by his wife, Frances of Fairfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Sue Ann of Cincinnati, Barry and Linda Schneider of El Sobrante; daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Peter Rammer of Almo; brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Mary of St. Charles; sister, Marie Iffrig of Boonville, Ind.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Hubert Echele of St. Charles, Rita and Walter Nolke of Columbia, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

Robert A. Teaney

Funeral services for Robert A. Teaney, 80, of Fairfield will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The Rev. Sebastian Meyer will officiate. Disposition will be private.

Born Aug. 1, 1918, in Cleveland, Mr. Teaney died April 21, 1999, in Fairfield.

A resident of Fairfield for 35 years, Mr. Teaney served in the Air Force for 22 years and retired as a master sergeant. He worked in aircraft maintenance. He worked in civil service for 19 years as a jet mechanic at various military bases. He served in the European Campaign 410 Bomber Squadron 94th Bomber Wing. He received a bronze star for meritorious service.

Mr. Teaney belonged to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 861, and SIRS - Sons in Retirement Service.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gloria of Fairfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Philip Guzman of Dallas, Maureen and Gregory Redish of Dallas; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Esther of Vacaville; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the building fund at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1700 Dover Ave., Fairfield, 94533.

Sarah Elizabeth Fadley Miller

Funeral services for Sarah Elizabeth Fadley Miller, 98, of Vacaville will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McCune Garden Chapel. Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Dec. 1, 1900, in English Hills, Mrs. Miller died April 23, 1999, in Vacaville.

Her parents, Jacob and Alice Fadley, came to California from Virginia in 1890, and during her lifetime, Mrs. Miller enjoyed working on family farms, packing fruit and cutting apricots and peaches. She also harvested vegetables and flowers until recent years. She often reminisced about the unpaved streets of Vacaville and the several blacksmith shops in the city.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Elaine Neff of Vallejo; brother, George Fadley of Vacaville; grandson, Frank and his wife, Sandra; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Jaclyn and Joseph, all of Vacaville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William of Vacaville in 1957; sister, Rose Hunter; brothers, Joseph, Frank, John, James, Clyde and Bill Fadley.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Kathleen Sue O'Brien

Funeral services for Kathleen Sue O'Brien, 33, of Fairfield will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Fairfield Funeral Home. Pastor Pete Escobido of Rock of Salvation Church will officiate. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Jan. 30, 1966, in Fairfield, Ms. O'Brien died April 19, 1999, the victim of a homicide.

She was an inventory taker for  Washington Inventory for the last two months.

She is survived by her parents, Francis and Judith of Fairfield; cousin, Teresa Courtemanche of Fairfield; sisters, Maureen of Vallejo and Doreen of Fairfield; brothers, Daniel and Joseph Sherwood of Massachusetts; nephews, Lloyd and Joseph Clayton of Fairfield; aunt, Anne  Taylor of Fairfield; and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Fairfield Funeral Home.
