Arlene Iona King Turner

Private cryptside services for Arlene Iona King Turner, 77, of Vacaville will be Monday in East Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento.

Born Oct. 13, 1921, in Vacaville, Mrs. Turner died May 20, 1999, at the Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

She lived in Vacaville most of her life.

She attended and graduated from Vacaville Grammar School, Vacaville High School and Heald Business College in Sacramento.

She enjoyed working with the Vacaville Museum Committee and was very proud of the museum's completion.

She crocheted many beautiful afghans for her family that will always be cherished.

She operated a typing business out of her home.

Her first job was at the Vaca Valley Creamery. She also worked at Merle Norman and at the Style Center in Vacaville. She later worked in a lumber mill in  Jackson and lived in Sacramento for 30 years, where she raised her children.

She enjoyed playing the piano, dancing and singing. She was a wonderful cook. She was a blue ribbon winner of pies and cakes at the Solano County Fair and loved animals, especially dogs.

One of her proudest accomplishments was driving a car in high school that her father, Cyrus Elmer King, Vacaville's former police chief, built for her.

She is survived by her loving husband and companion, Thomas of Vacaville; daughter, Janice Elaine Pillsbury Thompson of Loomis; son, Kenneth Wayne Pillsbury of Foresthill; cousin and his wife, Lester and Angie King of Vacaville; best friend, Audry Miller Nicholson of Winters; grandchildren, Christi Thompson Robson, Rebecca Thompson Sullivan, Timothy Thompson, Todd Thompson, Shera Pillsbury Smith, Gina Marie Pillsbury, Travis Thompson, Amy Thompson Redford, Jessica Dawn Thompson; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Serve Our Seniors, Inc., 95 Marina Center, Suisun City, 94585.

Lloyd Timothy Helmts

A memorial service for Lloyd Timothy Helmts, 57, will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel One, Travis Air Force Base.

Chaplain Arthur R. Homer will officiate.

Born April 4, 1942, in Beloit, Wis., Mr. Helmts died at Vaca Valley Hospital in Vacaville after a long illness.

A resident of Vacaville with his family since 1974, Mr. Helmts was assigned to Travis as a C-5 flight engineer with the 22nd Military Airlift Squadron. He retired from the Air Force in 1983 after 23 years of active duty service, and medically retired from Alameda Naval Air Station in 1988. Mr. Helmts loved the Air Force and was very proud to be part of the special Air Force family.

Mr. Helmts was a devoted husband and father and a doting "popa" to his two grandchildren, Micaela Marie and Brandon Michael Sylvester.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia; daughter Tina; mother, Mildred May of Beloit; sister Shirley of Reno; brother Gary of Lomira, Wis.; and special friends, Rosemary Fox, Audrey Weiand, Frank Andrews and Nick and Roz Katko, all of Vacaville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the American Scleroderma Foundation.

Arrangements are handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Antonia S. Babauta

A funeral Mass for Antonia S. Babauta, 92, of Fairfield will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

The Rev. Joseph Joyce will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Agat, Guam.

Mrs. Babauta died May 21, 1999, in her home after a short illness.

Born June 8, 1906, in Merizo, Guam, she lived in Fairfield for 22 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Babauta is survived by her daughters, Tonit Santos of Guam, Faye Henrich of San Diego and Mamaling Scharff of Fairfield; sons, Philip of Tucson, Ariz., Rick of San Diego, Inas and Kin, both of Guam, and Ricky Camacho of Guam; three sisters; five brothers; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will immediately follow the Mass until 2 p.m. Thursday and a rosary will be held at 8 p.m. today and Wednesday in Mount Carmel Church.

Arrangements are by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Thada I. DeLaRosby

Funeral services for Thada I. DeLaRosby, 79, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Friday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Stan Sanderson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield-Suisun Cemetery.

Mrs. DeLaRosby died May 24, 1999, in David Grant Medical Center after a short illness.

Born July 11, 1919, in Flint, Mich., she resided in Fairfield for 43 years. She worked for civil service at Travis Air Force Base as a reservation clerk in P.C.S. She retired after 20 years' service in 1975.

Mrs. DeLaRosby is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and William Barboza of Suisun; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Patricia of Shaw, Ore.; sisters, Betty Johndro and Barbara Minkler, both of Michigan; brothers, Edward I. Langley of Florida, Walter J. Langley and Guy Langley, both of Michigan; grandchildren, Joseph and Amanda Barboza of Suisun, Patricia Pietrucky of Shaw, Kimberly Beage of Williams, Ariz., and Amy Miller of Napa; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Robert L. in 1956 and a son, Robert Michael in 1966.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Capt. Thomas E. Franco

Funeral services for Capt. Thomas E. Franco, 76, of Green Valley will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Capt. Franco will be buried with full military honors at the Rockville Cemetery.

Born Aug. 9, 1922, in Napa, Mr. Franco died May 20, 1999, at his Green Valley home after a short illness.

He attended Sacramento Junior College before enlisting in the Navy. He later attended the General Line School in Monterey.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator during World War II. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He served as an air operations officer aboard the USS Antietam and was an operations officer and executive officer of the USS Pine Island. He also was an executive officer at the U.S. Naval School of Preflight in Pensacola, Fla., where he was promoted to captain. Earlier, he taught at the Air Support School of the Amphibious Training Command of the Pacific and at the flight schools at the Naval Auxiliary Air Station at Cabanies Field and the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi,  Texas.

From 1950 to 1951 he was assigned to the Air Anti-Squadron Twenty-One.

Capt. Franco's decorations and awards include a Distinguished Flying Cross, an Air Medal and Two Stars, a Presidential Unit Citation with One Star, a Navy Meritorious Service Medal with Two Stars, a USAF Commendation Medal, the North American Campaign Medal, the Pacific-Asiatic Campaign Medal with Three Stars, a World War II Victory Medal, a Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asiatic Clasp, a National Defense Service Medal with Two Stars, a Korean Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Star.

He also served at Treasure Island Naval Air Station. He retired from the Navy in 1973 with 31 years of service. He was a member of The Daedalians, Travis Air Force Base Chapter.

Capt. Franco and his wife, Odie, spent the last 27 summers at their summer home at Putah Creek Park, Lake Berryessa.

He is survived by his wife, Odie, of Green Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Isabel Pinto Franco of Somerville, Mass.; mother, Madeline Kennedy of Napa; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Esther of Sacramento and brother-in-law, Don Townsend of Napa.

Memorial contributions can be made to Meals on Wheels of Solano County, 1000  Texas St., Suite G, Fairfield, 94533.

Bernadine Harding

Funeral services for Bernadine Harding, 78, of Vacaville will be at 2 p.m. today in Lee Funeral Home of Manassas, Va. Family will begin receiving friends at 10 a.m.

The Rev. Linn Opderbecke will officiate. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Ms. Harding died May 23, 1999, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas.

Born and raised in Illinois, she lived in San Francisco for 15 years before moving to Vacaville, where she lived for the past 40 years. She attended college at Carthage College, McComb College and Western Teachers College, all in Illinois. Subsequent to her education, she was an elementary school teacher at a county schoolhouse in the Lorraine, Ill., area. She was a member of the Corvette Club in Vacaville. She held a real estate license with American West Realtors in Vacaville, and was also a member of the Vacaville Presbyterian Church.

Ms. Harding is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra B. and Paul C. Ward of San Juan Capistrano and Debra J. and Arch J. Kielly of Manassas; mother, Ethel Eva Nelson of Vacaville; brother, Rolland D. Nelson of Lady Lake, Fla.; uncle, Glen Kincheloe of San Carlos; grandchildren, Valerie Thompson of Temecula, Jonathan Ward of San Juan Capistrano; John and Patrick Harding Kielly, both of Manassas; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jeffrey and Austin Thompson, all of Temecula.

Arrangements are by Lee Funeral Home.

Al G. 'Butch' Russ

Funeral Services for Al G. "Butch" Russ, 55, of Vallejo will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vaca Hills Chapel.

The Rev. W.A. Burkey, pastor emeritus of Fairfield's First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Russ died May 22, 1999, in Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville.

Born Sept. 20, 1943, in Vallejo, he lived in Yuba and Sutter counties for 23 years was and a former resident of Vallejo and Pinole. He worked as a steel fabricator for Yuba City Steel Product for 23 years. He was a member of the Automotive Union No. 5146 in Oakland.

Mr. Russ is survived by his wife of 37 years, Arlene of Yuba City; son, Martin of Yuba City; daughter, Rhonda L. of Sacramento; mother, Jessie M. Newcomb of Vacaville and sister, Jeanette of Vacaville; five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Chapel of the Twin Cities in Yuba City and from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Vaca Hills Chapel.

Robert Leon Anderson

Funeral services for Robert Leon Anderson, 25, of Eugene, Ore., were held May 21 at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home. He was laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Eugene, Ore.

Mr. Anderson died May 16, 1999, in Eugene from a gunshot wound.

Born April 13, 1974, in Eugene, Ore., he had resided in Oregon since 1998. Before that he lived in Vacaville for many years. He worked as a shift manager for Taco Bell.

Mr. Anderson enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and working on cars.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his mother, Roberta Anderson of Eugene; father, Craig Rosemeyer of Springfield, Ore.; son, Mark of Eugene; grandparents, Henry and Beverly of Vacaville; George and Alice Rosemeyer of Eugene; sisters, Angela Rosemeyer of Spanaway, Wash., and Bernice Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Robert Anderson Trust Fund at Wells Fargo Bank, West Eugene Branch, 710 W. Polk St., Eugene, Ore.

Margaret Anne Chavez

Services for Margaret Anne Chavez, 54, of Vacaville will be private.

Mrs. Chavez died May 24, 1999, in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born Nov. 11, 1944, in San Mateo, she lived in Vacaville for the past nine years.

Mrs. Chavez was a loving wife and mother who loved working in her home and taking care of the garden. She also enjoyed walking.

Mrs. Chavez is survived by her husband, Rich; daughter, Lisa Silvestri of Vacaville; grandchildren, Victoria Chavez and Brett Silvestri, both of Vacaville; sisters, Janet Berkemeyer, Diane Groves, Maureen Dudzinski, and Susan Wallace, all of Santa Cruz County, and Cindy Wallace of Santa Rosa; brother, John Hooper of Santa Cruz County; aunt, Margaret Collins; and uncles, Kevin and Robert Collins of San Mateo.

Arrangements were made by McCune Garden Chapel.

Concepcion Maria Velasco

A Mass of the Resurrection for Concepcion "Connie" Maria Velasco, 76, of Campbell will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville.

The Rev. Benedict DeLeon of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate.

Mrs. Velasco died on May 22, 1999, in Vacaville after a battle with cancer.

Born June 15, 1922, in San Francisco, she had lived in Campbell for 42 years. She worked for Bank of America, both in San Francisco and Campbell for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984. She was a loving wife and mother and was someone who always made her family her first priority in her life.

Mrs. Velasco was very creative and enjoyed painting, sewing and crocheting, and cooking for her family. She also created wedding cakes and cakes for special occasions, including the wedding cakes for each of her children's weddings and her sister's wedding. She believed in the power of praying the rosary every day.

Mrs. Velasco is survived by her loving husband and companion of 51 years, Guillermo "Memo" of Campbell; son, David of Campbell; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Dennis Scott of Fairfield and Corinne and Scott Sexton of Vacaville; son, Carlos of Campbell; sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Bob Carrington of San Francisco; sister, Mina Stewart of Burlingame; grandchildren, Michael and Lynee of Campbell, Melissa Gardner of Campbell, Jonathan, Tommy and Paul Scott of Fairfield, Bryan, Andreya and Sarah Sexton of Vacaville; nieces and nephews, Carlita and Ralph Martinez of San Francisco, Charlotte Dante of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Larry, James and Michael Stewart of Burlingame.

Flowers may be sent for the service or memorial contributions can be made to Kaiser Hospice or a hospice organization of the donor's choice.

Gary Gordon Kollin

There will be no services held for Gary Gordon Kollin, 58, of Mountain View. Burial will be private at Tolucay Cemetery, Napa.

Mr. Kollin died May 22, 1999, in Mountain View of cancer.

Born April 11, 1941, he was a longtime resident of Napa and Vacaville.

Mr. Kollin is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Gina Morhun of Glenview, Ill., Amber Mills of Suisun; sons, Shane of Ripon, Wis., Charlie of Sunnyvale, Gary J. of Vacaville, Michael of Vacaville, Joey of San Francisco; stepchildren, Debbie Dabila and Steven Wanzer of Mountain View; and 10 grandchildren.

Donations can be made to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are by AAA Cremation of San Francisco.
