Frieda Herta Calovius

A memorial service for Frieda Herta Calovius, 90, of Dixon will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

Pastor Wes Nordman of Dixon Community Church will officiate.

Inurnment will follow at Silveyville Cemetery.

Mrs. Calovius died in her home on June 5, 1999 of natural causes.

Born April 9, 1909, in Laubegast, Germany, she came to the United States in 1928. She was a homemaker and also worked in the Food Science Building at the University of California, Davis.

Mrs. Calovius is survived by her daughters, Shirley Ayers of Dixon and Louisa Cardoza of Tracy; grandchildren, Mark Ayers of Rocklin, Steve Ayers of Dixon, Tim Ayers of Redlands, Cheryl Ayers and Janet Soares, both of Dixon, Richard Cardoza of Ceres and Robert and Annette Cardoza, both of Tracy; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Calovius.

Carole Ann Cavalli Holland

There will be no formal services for Carole Ann Cavalli Holland, 65, of Fairfield. Interment will be private in Rockville Cemetery.

Mrs. Holland died June 7, 1999, in NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born April 27, 1934, in Vallejo. She lived in Fairfield for 29 years and was a lifelong resident of Solano County. She worked in civil service for 30 years. She worked at the Benicia Arsenal, the Mare Island Naval Shipyard and Travis Air Force Base. She retired from Travis in 1994 as a squadron commander's executive secretary.

Mrs. Holland is survived by her husband, Kenneth C. of Fairfield; son, Tom of Reno; sister, Maryellen Roulette of Benicia; brother, Robert L. Cavalli of Barstow. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances in 1983.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 West  Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533.

Lt. Col. Conrad C. Kolander

At his request there will be no services for Lt. Col. Conrad C. Kolander, 79, of Vacaville.

Mr. Kolander died June 2, 1999, in Concord after cardiac disease.

Born Dec. 19, 1919, in Kingsburg, he moved to the area in 1973. He joined the Army Air Corps, was a Veteran of World War II as a pilot commander flying B-29s in the Pacific Theater. He participated in the Berlin Airlift. After combat, he served in the nuclear program and in various staff and command positions. After retirement from the military he worked as a lobbyist in  Washington, D.C. After returning to California, he worked as a representative in telecommunications.

Mr. Kolander enjoyed photography, fishing and traveling.

Mr. Kolander is survived by his wife of 50 years, Adele of Vacaville; brother, Warren of Forest Hill; daughters, Karen Martin of Murrieta and Susan Porter of Morro Bay; son, Charles of Los Angeles.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Diabetes Association of Solano County.

Arrangements were by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Ruth 'Jean' Imogene Morgan

A funeral service for Ruth "Jean" Imogene Morgan, 71, of Fairfield will be 4 p.m. Friday at the Community United Methodist Church in Fairfield.

The Rev. Vic Matson will officiate.

Visitation for Mrs. Morgan will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Community United Methodist Church.

She will be buried at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield.

Mrs. Morgan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict as a medical laboratory technician. She also worked at David Grant Medical Center as an appointment clerk in the OB-GYN Department.

She also worked at the Fairfield Medical Group.

She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church, the Ladies of the Elks in Vacaville, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 2333 Suisun-Fairfield. She was a former OES member of the Odenwald Chapter 12 in Darmstadt, Germany, and the OES Mount Holly Chapter 1 from Mount Holly, N.J.

She was a loved wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Bud of Fairfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jean and John Stefanic of Gunnison,  Colo., and Rhonda Sue and Billie Donnelly of Henderson, Tenn.; sisters, Anita Curtis of Evansville, Ind., Helen Wasson of New Harmony, Ind., and Phyllis De Paula Arias of Spring,  Texas; brother, Elwood Mathews of New Harmony; granchildren, J.J. Stefanic of Gunnison, Joe Donnelly of Henderson, and Farrah Donnelly of Sumter, S.C.

Memorial contributions can be made to the California-Elks Major Project, 5450 E. Lamona Ave., Fresno, 93727-2200.

Leroy Nickelson

Funeral services for Leroy Nickelson, 64, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Friday in Shiloh Baptist Church.

Pastor Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Nickelson died June 7, 1999, in David Grant Medical Center after a long illness.

Born Dec. 9, 1934, in Florida, he lived in the area for 23 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and retired as technical sergeant. After military service he worked with the United States Postal Service for 20 years in Vacaville.

Mr. Nickelson is survived by his wife, Verline of Vacaville; daughters, Gaynell Hendrix of Davis and Toni Gattling of Vacaville; sons, Keith of Massachusetts, Kevin of Arizona and Franklin Smith of Michigan; sisters, Cora Shields of La Puente, Christel Pruitt of Hayward and Mary Lou Sutter of New Jersey; grandchildren, Talaya, Felicia, Terence, Steffon, Brian, Christopher, Nicholas, Rayanna, Frank Jr., Calvin, Nathaniel, and Devin; great-grandchild, Aireus.

Visitation will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

John Arthur Redmond Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for John Arthur Redmond Jr., 69, of Fairfield will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

The Rev. Sebastian Meyer will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Mr. Redmond died June 3, 1999, in Queen of the Valley Hospital after a sudden illness.

Born Jan. 12, 1930, in Bay Shore, Islip, N.Y., he lived in Fairfield for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army for 26 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He served in Korea and Vietnam and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Master Parachute Badge.

From 1966 to 1969 he was liaison officer to the 22nd Air Force at Travis Air Force Base. From 1969 to 1971 he was Army liaison adviser to the Iceland Defense Force. After retiring he owned and operated Cypress Landscape Inc. for 19 years. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, American Legion, 82nd Airborne and 187th Airborne R.C.T. Rakkasans. He was a member of the California Landscape Contractors Association, serving as past state president in 1996 and was awarded the Knight of the Garter from the C.L.C.A. State Women's Auxiliary in 1994.

Mr. Redmond is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Marilynn Ann and John T. Griffin III of Suisun City; son and daughter-in-law, John A. III and Felicia of Kanab, Utah; grandchildren, John T. IV of Burlingame, Katherine Griffin O'Connor of Lincoln, Neb., Diana of Moreno Valley, Jonathan of Kanab, Kimberly and Devin Nahler of Kanab; numerous nieces and nephews.

A reception will be held for family and friends after the service from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Legends and Heroes Banquet Room, Paradise Valley Golf Course, 3990 Paradise Valley Drive, Fairfield.

Visitation will will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Fredrick Dale Waddel

Services for Fredrick Dale Waddel, 54, of Pleasanton were held on June 4 in McCune Garden Chapel. Interment is at Golden Gate National Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Waddell died May 28, 1999, in Pleasanton, after a sudden illness.

Born Aug. 5, 1944, in Gotten, Conn., he lived in Pleasanton for 10 years. He worked for the past 12 years at the Budget Inn in Pleasanton.

Mr. Waddell enjoyed reading and watching TV.

Mr. Waddell is survived by his mother, Virginia Pittenger of Vacaville; brother, John of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Beverly Stround of  Louisiana; sister, Carol Anne of Eugene, Ore.; and many friends, nieces and nephews.

Robert Alan Welch

Funeral services for Robert Alan Welch, 45, of Vallejo will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Vaca Hills Chapel. Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Welch died June 5, 1999, in Vallejo.

Born Oct. 2, 1953, in Vallejo, he has resided in Vallejo all of his life. He worked installing fiberoptic cable for Signal Solutions Corp. in Benicia.

Mr. Welch enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and spending time with his children and grandson. He was a very kind, loving, and giving person.

Mr. Welch is survived by his mother and stepfather, Kathleen and John Porter of Springville, Utah; daughter, Monica of Vacaville; son, Joseph of Vacaville; brothers, Kent of Astoria, Ore., David C. of Springville, Utah, and Gary Porter of Springville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lana and Paul Ruggirello of Spanish Ford, Utah, and Wanda and Shane Zeeman of Payson, Utah; fiancee, Tonya Sorvik of Vallejo; stepmother, Patricia of Pinole; grandson, Alexander J. Crafton of Vacaville. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne of Pinole.

Rawlvan Bennett

Funeral services for Rawlvan Bennett, 69, of Suisun City will be Friday at Solano Valley Mortuary. Burial will be at Rockville Cemetery.

Born June 4, 1930, in El Campo,  Texas, Mr. Bennett died June 6, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center.

A resident of Suisun City for 37 years, Mr. Bennett was a vehicle operator at Travis Air Force Base for 26 years.

He is survived by his wife, Reba of Suisun City; daughter, Brita Bennett-Leder of Denver; sons, Rawlvan of Atlanta and Renwick of Phoenix; sisters, Leola Zerlee; brother, Namen; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Josephine Gardiner

A Catholic Mass for Josephine Gardiner, 73, of Fairfield will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield-Suisun Cemetery.

Mrs. Gardiner died June 8, 1999, in her home after a short illness.

Born Nov. 16, 1925, in San Francisco, she lived in Fairfield 73 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Church, SPRSI and YLI.

Mrs. Gardiner is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ron Lahmon of Fairfield; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Lonna of Vacaville; daughter-in-law, Trudy of Vacaville; sisters, Frances Lozano of Fairfield; brothers, Alfred Serrano of Fairfield, Henry Serrano and Manuel Funez, both of Tracy; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Walter.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Arrangements are by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Lois Marie Phillips

There will be no formal services for Lois Marie Phillips, 76, of Vacaville at her request. Private entombment will be in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Mrs. Phillips died June 7, 1999, in Laurel Creek Convalescent Hospital.

Born Dec. 20, 1922, in Fargo, N.D., she lived in Solano County for 36 years. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Phillips loved sewing, crafts, computers and needlework.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and John Timbur of Vacaville; sister, Phyllis Kelley of Fargo; grandchildren, Phillip and Laura Timbur of Vacaville. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1985.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 West  Texas St., Ste. 110, Fairfield, 94533.
