John J. Ledbetter
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for John J. Ledbetter, 77, of Fairfield, at 10 a.m. Thursday in Holy Spirit Church.
The Rev. Luciano Valezuela will officiate. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery.
Mr. Ledbetter died July 26, 1999, in his home after a long illness.
Born Aug. 19, 1921, in Vandalia, Ill., he lived in Fairfield for 14 years. A native of Vandalia, Ill., he served in the United States Marine Corp from 1942 to 1945. He worked for United Airlines as a mechanic for 40 years, retiring in 1984. He was also a Realtor in San Mateo and Solano counties. He lived in San Mateo for 40 years, moving to Fairfield in 1985. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists Local 1781 in Burlingame. He served as a shop steward for many years. He also served as District 141 general chairman, Grand Lodge IAofM, Burlingame. He was a member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church in San Mateo, Knights of Columbus, San Mateo Elks, American Legion No. 82, Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield, and the Legion of Mary in Fairfield.
Mr. Ledbetter enjoyed gardening, baseball and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ledbetter is survived by his wife of 57 years, Esther Tessman of Fairfield; daughter, Melinda K. Kimball of Vacaville; son, Jon M. of Belmont; grandchildren, Michele Linch of Gresham, Ore., Megan L. of Belmont, Elizabeth Force, Sarah Beth Kimball and James Kimball, all of Vacaville, J. Michael of Livermore and Mathew J. of San Mateo; great-grandchildren, Aimee Beth of San Mateo, Kaitlyn E. Force of Vacaville, Joshua and Jacob of Livermore, Mathew and Jacob Force of Vacaville and Jeremy Linch of Gresham.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. today in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Irene Marania
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Irene Marania, 65, of Dixon at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. James Catholic Church in Davis. Rite of Committal will take place in the Davis Cemetery.
Mrs. Marania died July 26, 1999, in Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Vallejo after a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 20, 1933, in the Philippines, she lived in Dixon. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Marania enjoyed gardening, sewing and gambling.
Mrs. Marania is survived by her children, Eleanor of Dixon; Dorothy Gatmen of San Francisco, Eulogio M. Jr., and Fred, both of Dixon; brothers, Eustaqui Omanito, Toring Omanito and Virgilio Omanito of the Philippines; sister, Maring of the Philippines; eight grandchildren and numerous relatives in the Philippines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eulogio M. "Loy" in 1997.
Friends and relatives may call between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. today at the Davis Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Mary V. Miller
Funeral services for Mary V. Miller, 77, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Saturday in McCune Garden Chapel.
Michael D. Powell will preside. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Miller died July 26, 1999, in Vallejo, she died peacefully after a brief illness.
Born July 17, 1922, in Reedley, she lived in Vacaville for the past four years after moving here from Santa Clara. She was a homemaker, wife and mother for more than 50 years. She was a past member of the Women of the Moose in Concord and a member of the Leisure Town Aqua Belles.
Mrs. Miller enjoyed her yearly trips to Lake Tahoe with her daughters, reading, crossword puzzles and time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and James Mumaugh of Vacaville and Robin and Richard Pierson of Elk Grove; brothers, Joel Doss of Poway, John Doss of Gresham, Ore., and Eugene Doss of Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Miller and a daughter, Nancy Laux both in 1993.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Bessie M. Perry
Graveside services for Bessie M. Perry, 91, of Fairfield will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery, Methodist Section.
Order of Eastern Star, Suisun Chapter No. 2 will officiate. Burial will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Perry died July 26, 1999, in NorthBay Medical Center after a long illness.
Born Dec. 26, 1907, in Prescott, Ariz., she lived in Fairfield for 62 years. Mrs. Perry's father was in the Army and traveled in and out of the United States. She was a homemaker for 62 years. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Suisun Chapter No. 2; Senior Americans Club Senior Center; Suisun-Fairfield Congregational Church; Women's Fellowship of Suisun-Fairfield Congregational Church; Solano Yacht Club; and the Wednesday Club.
Mrs. Perry is survived by her son, August M. Reddan of Newberry Park; sister, Christine Miller of Berkeley; nieces, Betty Waller of Fairfield and Joy Shaffer of Yerington, Nev.; nephew, William Perry Jr. of Vacaville; one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lewis G. in 1984.

Frank Helman Kaurin
Memorial services for Frank Helman Kaurin, 51, of San Luis Obispo will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rockville Bible Church. Pastor John Carson will officiate. Inurnment will be private at Rockville Cemetery.
Born May 22, 1948, in Fort Custer, Battle Creek, Mich., Mr. Kaurin died July 23, 1999, in San Luis Obispo.
From 1972 to 1977, Mr. Kaurin worked as a welder and boilermaker in naval and private-sector shipyards. From 1979 to 1987, he worked as an animal handler and director of animals in movies and television. He supervised such notable animals as Boomer and Buster: The Wonder Dog. Mr. Kaurin appeared on the TV show "Those Amazing Animals." From 1987 to 1991, he managed a horse rental string of 38 horses, and from 1991 to 1999 he worked as a self-employed horse rancher, breeder and trainer. His primary hobby and interest was horses.
Mr. Kaurin is survived by his wife, Alice Kathleen Kaurin of Lakewood, Colo.; daughters, Shannon and Angel, both of Lakewood, Breanna of Manteca; sons, Shayne of Denver, Robert of Lakewood; parents, Robert and Dorothy Kaurin of Green Valley; grandmother, Carmel Kaurin of Lancaster; sisters, Barbara Kaurin of Grayson, Ga., Janell Brannen of Corona.

Alice M. Lough
A Mass of Christian Burial for Alice M. Lough, 72, of Riverside will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.
Born June 29, 1927, in New York, Mrs. Lough died July 25, 1999, in Riverside.
A prior resident of Fairfield for eight years, Mrs. Lough worked as a nurse's aide at Costa Mesa Hospital and Humana Hospital.
She is survived by her daughters, Alice Otis of New Hampshire, Linda Mass of Fairfield; sons, Patrick Lough of Riverside, Edward Lough of Garden Grove; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1996; and son, William Lough in 1997.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
Howard Neil Rakestraw
Services for Howard Neil Rakestraw, 70, of Las Vegas are pending and his ashes will be scattered at sea.
Born May 30, 1929, in Barton County, Mo., Mr. Rakestraw died June 20, 1999, at Desert Springs Hospital after an extended illness.
The son of the late Ivan and Thelma Rakestraw, Mr. Rakestraw attended Lamar High School in Lamar, Mo. In 1955 he joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1977. On Nov. 9, 1975, he married Sharon Smith in Reno.
Mr. Rakestraw was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for participating as a regularly assigned crew member of an aircraft flying over Vietnam to support and assist United States operations during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of master sergeant, serving as a flight engineer on the aircraft.
He joined the First United Methodist Church in Atkins, Ariz., which was his previous residence before moving to Las Vegas in 1977. He also had previous residences in Vacaville and Wichita, Kansas.
Mr. Rakestraw is survived by his wife, Sharon of Las Vegas; daughters, Linda Smith of Kansas City, Mo., and Diana of San Diego; stepsons, Rick Smith of Little Rock, Ark., Ken Smith of West Point and Steve Smith of Thousand Palms; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ruth Elizabeth Shodle
At her request, no services will be held for Ruth Elizabeth (O'Clair) Shodle, 92, of Cameron Park. Mrs. Shodle will be interred with her husband, Anthony Shodle, in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
Born Nov. 11, 1906, in Ayres, Mass., Mrs. Shodle died July 26, 1999, in Cameron Park.
Mrs. Shodle was known for her creative talents. She owned and operated Davis Florist and Gift Shoppe for 15 years and resided in Vacaville for 60 years. For the past 10 years, she had suffered from Alzheimer's disease.
Mrs. Shodle is survived by her son, Edward Merrill; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Green Valley Mortuary.
Deborah Denise Watson
Memorial services for Deborah Denise Watson, 45, of Fairfield will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private.
Born July 22, 1953, in Modesto, Mrs. Watson died July 14, 1999, in Vallejo.
A resident of Fairfield for five years, Mrs. Watson was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Watson of Fairfield; daughter, Roxanne Faye Nicols of Felton; father, Steve Johnson of Arizona; sisters, Mary Brown of Hollister and Judy Wilson of Ione.

Charles 'Flip' Everett Flippin
Funeral services for Charles "Flip" Everett Flippin, 80, of Vacaville will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Valley Evangelical Free Church.
Disposition will be private. The Rev. David Sotelo of Valley Evangelical Free Church will officiate.
Born March 16, 1919, in Clayton, N.M., Mr. Flippin died July 21, 1999, in Fairfield.
A resident of Leisure Town since 1991, Mr. Flippin was a World War II veteran, business owner and Realtor. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed hunting and loved to watch all sports. He was a member of Kiwanis and Toastmasters.
Mr. Flippin is survived by his wife, Ann Flippin of Vacaville; sister, Edith Madden of Brea; son, Sandy Flippin of Blue Lake; stepson, Scott A. Walker of Vacaville; stepdaughter, Sally Zanussi of Martinez; and three grandchildren.

Clara Lou Golightly
Funeral services for Clara Lou Golightly, 81, of Vacaville will be 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Vaca Hills Chapel.
The bishop of the Vacaville Third Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
Born Sept. 3, 1917, in Pinson, Tenn., Mrs. Golightly died July 28, 1999, in Vacaville.
Mrs. Golightly moved to the area 14 years ago and was a homemaker for 61 years. She was a member of the LDS Relief Society and the Parent Teacher Association. She taught Sunday school for numerous years and was a Young Woman's Program leader for five years.
Mrs. Golightly is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara G. and Shirl H. Stewart of South Jordan, Utah, and Melba D. and Davy J. Marshall of Vacaville; brothers, Frank Davis of Henryetta, Okla., and Ben Davis of Auburn; sisters, Gladys L. Davis of Antioch and Bonnie Sue Bown of Rancho Cordova; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Maxwell Golightly in 1993.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at Vaca Hills Chapel.

Arianna Zoe 'Squash' Kontes
Funeral services for Arianna Zoe "Squash" Kontes, 4, of Vacaville will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Central Sacramento Seventh-day Adventist Church, 6045 Camilia Ave. Interment will be private at East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park.
Born April 27, 1995, Arianna died July 28, 1999, at home in Vacaville.
Arianna will be dearly missed by her parents and relatives. She loved to sing church songs with her family and friends. She loved to swim and play with her brother, who was also her best friend.
It was Arianna's dream to meet Tigger at Disneyland, and on her fourth birthday that dream was fulfilled through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
She is survived by her parents, Michael and Ragan Kontes; brother, Lucas; grandparents, Michael and Carol Baer (Papou and Yaiyai), and Lucas and Stella Kontes; aunts and uncles; and numerous relatives and friends.
