William Conrad Dessel

At the request of the family, no formal services will be held for William Conrad Dessel, 62, of Suisun City. Interment will be private at Rockville Cemetery.

Born July 25, 1937, in Omaha, Neb., Mr. Dessel died July 29, 1999, in Suisun City.

A 60-year resident of Solano County, Mr. Dessel lived in Vallejo during his school-age years. He graduated from St. Vincent's Elementary School in Vallejo and St. Mary's High School in Berkeley.

He worked for 38 years for the Solano County Transportation Department, retiring as a supervisor. He was a longtime volunteer for the Suisun Fire District. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and skin diving. He also loved his children and grandchildren very much.

Mr. Dessel is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marlene of Suisun Valley; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Tony Anderson of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, William and Francis of Hayward; son, Robert of Winters; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Hanna Boys' Center, P.O. Box 100, Sonoma, 95476-9989; or to the NorthBay Hospice Center, 1200 B. Gale Wilson Blvd., Fairfield, 94533.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

William G. 'Bill' Johnson

A memorial service for William G. "Bill" Johnson, 74, of Suisun Valley will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 101 Oakwood Drive, Suisun City. Bishop Henry  Taylor will preside.

Burial will be private at Rockville Cemetery.

Mr.  Johnson died July 31, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield following a brief illness.

Born June 26, 1925, in San Jose, he had lived in Suisun Valley for 24 years. He lived in Fairfield for five years before that.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the First Raider Battalion in the South Pacific. In 1975, he became a real estate agent, and in 1985, a broker, working in Fairfield.

Mr.  Johnson was a member of the Marine Corps Raider Association and the Solano County Board of Realtors.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes of Suisun Valley; a daughter, Pamela Middlebrooks of Sacramento; three sons, William G. Jr. of Fremont, Michael Brinkerhoff of Orinda and Steven Brinkerhoff of Pleasant Hill; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Diabetes Society of Solano County, 817 Missouri St. No. 4, Fairfield, 94533.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Terry Lee Malkiewicz

No formal funeral services will be held for Terry Lee Malkiewicz, 67, of Fairfield.

Inurnment will be private.

Born July 26, 1932, in Long Beach, he died July 31, 1999, in his home after a long illness.

He attended San Jose State University and served in the Navy about two years to become a pilot with service in the Air Force during wars in Vietnam and Korea.

He flew C-5, B-47 and other aircraft prior to retiring as a major in 1976.

He enjoyed handball, racquetball, walking and being with his family.

Mr. Malkiewicz is survived by his wife, Sealwyn; daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Gary Krystek of Vacaville and Julie and Tom Howland of Suisun City; daughter, Cathy of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Elaine of Suisun City; mother, Dolores McManaman of Fairfield; sister, Judy Shaeffer of Fairfield; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mr. Malkiewicz was preceded in death by his father, John J. "Ski" Malkiewicz.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W.  Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533.

Michael Stalk Jr.

Memorial services for Michael Stalk Jr., 72, of Vacaville will be held at a later date in Michigan. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Stalk died in Winsor House Convalescent Hospital on July 31, 1999, after a long illness.

Born on Aug. 7, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., he moved to Vacaville eight years ago. He worked at Snyper Tool & Dye as an electrician for 40 years.

Mr. Stalk is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Bernice and Philip of Vacaville, Christine and Greg Katner of Michigan, Kathy and Michael of Michigan and Terry and Dale Dawnen of Michigan; brother, George Stalk of  West Virginia; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are being handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Leuna Ruth Curlee

Memorial services for Leuna Ruth Curlee, 71, of Fairfield will be held at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Inurnment is private.

Stan Sanderson of the Church of Christ will officiate.

Born on Aug. 1, 1927, in San Benito,  Texas, Mrs. Curlee died after a long illness. She lived in Fairfield for six years and was a homemaker for 35 years.

Mrs. Curlee is survived by her daughters, Linda Cline of Fairfield and Kathryn Martin of Red Bluff; sons, Gerald Watson of Fairfield and Walter Watson of Sacramento; sisters, Mayme Winters of Milpitas and Lorene Lewis of Stockton; brothers, Vernon Minix of Los Angeles and Bill and Joe Minix of Richmond; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the NorthBay Hospice Program, 1300 Oliver Road, Suite 210, Fairfield, 94533.

Gurmit Singh Sandhu

Funeral services for Gurmit Singh Sandhu, 74, of Suisun City will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Baldev Singh of El Sobrante will officiate. Disposition will be private in India.

Born Jan. 11, 1925, in Pakistan, Mr. Sandhu died Aug. 3, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Sandhu was a teacher in India J.S.F.H.K.H.S. School.

He is survived by his wife, Surjid of Suisun City; sons, Sukhpal of Suisun City and Jaspal of England; daughter, Satpal Gill of Fairfield; brother, Gurnath of England; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

James Lee Bowen

There will be no services for James Lee Bowen, 51, of Vacaville at his request. Burial will be in San Juan National Cemetery.

Mr. Bowen died July 31, 1999, after a long illness. Born March 10, 1948, in Spokane, Wash., he had lived in Solano County since 1970. He was a security guard and served in the Army for four years in Vietnam. He enjoyed construction.

Mr. Bowen is survived by his daughters, Crystal Hobson of Vacaville and Connie of Covelo; and grandson, Luke of Covelo. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cancer Society or Disabled Veterans. Arrangements were by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Darwin 'Dart' Carlson

Funeral services for Darwin "Dart" Carlson, 82, of Vacaville will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at McCune Garden Chapel. Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Chaplain Keith Knauf will officiate.

Born March 11, 1917, in Kearny, Neb., Mr. Carlson died Aug. 5, 1999, at VacaValley Hospital. A resident of Vacaville for 48 years, Mr. Carlson owned and operated Carlson Glass Co. and also worked for California Medical Facility until his retirement in 1979.

He was a loving husband, father and family man who was kind to all people. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and just being with his family and friends.

Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Grace of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Kay Lynn and Carl Depew of Concord; son and daughter-in-law, John and Teresa of San Ramon; brother, Myron of Nebraska; grandchildren, Dore and Marc Depew of Concord, and Stephanie and Julie of San Ramon; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Solano County, 817 Missouri St., No. 4, Fairfield, 94533, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Northern California Chapter, 150 Grand Ave., Oakland, 94612.

Frank E. Mattson

Funeral services for Frank E. Mattson, 77, of Wausau, Wis., will be 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Lester T. Seto of Bethany Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

Mr. Mattson died July 20, 1999, in Wausau of heart failure. Born Aug. 13, 1921, in Merril, Wis., he moved to California in 1963 and later to Red Bluff before returning to Wisconsin.

He served in the Air Force, attaining the rank of senior master sergeant before retiring at Travis Air Force Base. He served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed stamp collecting, square dancing, cooking and rose gardening. Mr. Mattson was preceded in death by his wife, Arleen, and survived by his wife, Mary Jane; sons, Pete and John of Vacaville, Mike of Redding and Mark of Oakland; daughters, Patti Martin of Redding and Jeanne Sterken of Loomis; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mikayla Leigh Murphy

Funeral services for Mikayla Leigh Murphy, 5, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Monday in Vaca Hills Chapel. Pastor Joseph Prudhomme of Calvary Chapel will officiate. Burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Mikayla died on Aug. 5, 1999, in VacaValley Hospital.

Born on Dec. 29, 1993, in Susanville, Mikayla moved to the area one year ago. She is survived by her mother and father, Dawna and Michael of Vacaville; grandparents, Jim and Fran of Auburn, and Ray and Daryl Rasmussen; great-grandmothers, Margaret Bremneour of Auburn and Vivian Rasmussen of Loomis; and brothers, Joshua Michael and Nathaniel David of Vacaville. Visitation is at 11 a.m. Monday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

A memorial fund has been set up in care of Vacaville Christian Academy, 1117 Davis St., Vacaville.

William L. Partain

Memorial services for William L. Partain, 77, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Monday at Valley Evangelical Free Church. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Napa Valley Memorial Park. Mr. Partain died Aug. 5, 1999, in Vacaville.

Born on Dec. 25, 1921, in Dover, Ark., he was a founding member of the Napa County Sheriff's Air Posse and director of aviation at the Napa County Airport from 1946 to 1988. He was also a World War II veteran in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Partain was a charter member of the California Airport Executives Association and was named Airport Manager of the Year in 1986.

He also was a member of the Valley Evangelical Free Church in Vacaville. Mr. Partain is survived by his wife, Ardell of Vacaville; daughters, Mary Jo Hammond of Vacaville and Karen of Philadelphia; sons, David of Roswell, N.M., and Douglas of Vallejo; sister, Athelene Blackburn of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four grandchildren.

Harry Wallace Chadbourne

No formal memorial services will be held for Harry Wallace Chadbourne, 81, of Suisun City. His inurnment will be private.

Mr. Chadbourne died Aug. 5, 1999, in Fairfield after a long illness. Born July 31, 1918, in Suisun Valley, where he lived his entire life, Mr. Chadbourne was a rancher for 58 years. He was a member of the Native Sons and the Gordon Valley Fire Department.

Mr. Chadbourne is survived by his wife, Helen of Suisun City; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Carol, and Robert "Skip" and Wendy, all of Suisun City; sister, Elaine Bacon of San Jose; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being made by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
