Tutusa S. Brown

Funeral services for Tutusa S. Brown, 55, of Alameda will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. The Rev. Alex F. Ledoux of Samoan Christian Fellowship in Fairfield will officiate. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born June 7, 1944, in Faga'alu, American Samoa, Mrs. Brown died Sept. 4, 1999, in Roseville.

Mrs. Brown worked for 10 years as a desk clerk for the Military Exchange in Alameda. She was a very active member of the Samoan Christian Fellowship in Fairfield, where she loved to sing.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Jerry of Alameda; daughters, Betty Jo of Hayward and Bernadette Gantt of Newport News, Va.; sons, Albert of Alameda and Jerry Jr. of Chula Vista; sisters, Esa Thaxton of Fairfield, Lei Maine of Killeen,  Texas and Tasi Milovale of Honolulu; brothers, Isaia Isaia of Honolulu, Ieremia Milovale of American Samoa and Milo Isaia of Honolulu; and granddaughter, Shaynah of Hayward.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Lillian Isabel Girard

At her request, no funeral will be held for Lillian Isabel Girard, 92, of Fairfield. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Girard died Sept. 5, 1999, at Sunbridge LaMariposa Convalescent Hospital following a long illness.

Born Sept. 5, 1907, in West Milton, N.Y., she had lived in Fairfield for 22 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Girard is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharlene and Robert McDermott of Fairfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Janice Girard of Westborough, Mass.; and three grandchildren, Marc McDermott of Fairfield, Kimberly of San Francisco and Kristen of New York City.

Arrangements are being handled by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Bernice Lorene Grout

Funeral services for Bernice Lorene Grout, 86, of Fairfield will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Community United Methodist Church, 1875 Fairfield Ave., Fairfield.

Pastor David Bunje of Community United Methodist will preside. Entombment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield.

Mrs. Grout died Sept. 3, 1999, in Fairfield following a long illness.

Born Jan. 29, 1913, in Yuma,  Colo., she had lived in Fairfield for 56 years.

She was a homemaker for 61 years and was a member of Community United Methodist Church, the Sunshine Club in Fairfield and served as a Brownie leader and Cub Scout leader. She was also a volunteer in many civic and charitable endeavors.

Mrs. Grout is survived by her son, David of Reno; daughters, Shirley Bottoms of Vacaville and Debbie Ledford and Linda Ellington, both of Fairfield; sister, Kathryn Parmelee of Concord; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St., Fairfield.

Memorial contribution can be made to Community United Methodist Church in Fairfield.

Fumi Poole

Funeral services for Fumi Poole, 77, of Fairfield will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fairmont Memorial Park Chapel, 1901 Union Ave., Fairfield.

A Buddhist committee will conduct the Buddhist service. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Poole died Sept. 3, 1999, in Fairfield following a long illness.

Born Dec. 17, 1921, in Japan, she had lived in Fairfield for 33 years. She was a homemaker for 45 years.

Mrs. Poole is survived by her husband, Albert Sr. of Fairfield; son, Albert Jr. of Reno; and one grandchild.

Bryan-Braker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donna Taliaferro Atkinson

Funeral services for Donna Taliaferro Atkinson, 43, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church.

The Rev. John Duncan will officiate.

Entombment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Ms. Atkinson died Sept. 7, 1999, at her home in Fairfield.

Born on Jan. 7, 1956, in Honolulu, she was a lifelong resident of Fairfield. She was a graduate of the Fairfield High School school class of 1974 and worked as a computer consultant for Ticor Title and later Chicago Title until 1989, when she quit to raise her family. She was a member of the Birthday Club.

Ms. Atkinson is survived by her daughters, Hillary Lee Smith and Katie Jane of Fairfield; son, Hayden T. Smith of Fairfield; brother and sister-in-law, William and Leslie Taliaferro of Vallejo; and sisters, Melanie Bajakian of Winters, Sandy Leicht and Susi Muto of Vacaville, Wendy Therian of Vallejo, Kellie Forristal of Richmond and Liz Nelson, Louise Czabaranek and Diana Flores, all of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara and William Taliaferro, and her sister Barbara.

Elizabeth Cheechov

Graveside services for Elizabeth Cheechov, 67, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

The Rev. Leo Nelson will officiate.

Born in Lewiston,  Texas, on May 9, 1932, Mrs. Cheechov died Sept. 4, 1999, in Fairfield after a long illness.

She lived in Solano County for 60 years.

She was a loving mother, wife and homemaker for more than 45 years.

She also was a member of the Elmira Fire Sirens.

Mrs. Cheechov is survived by her son, Anthony of Elmira; daughter, Kathy Ensley of Elmira; sister, Alice Edwards of Pleasant Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society, care of Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Drive, Vacaville, 95688.

Flora 'Tootsie' Ferreira

A memorial service for Flora "Tootsie" Ferreira, 87, of Vacaville will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

Pastor Mike McCamey of First Baptist Church in Fairfield will preside. Interment will be private.

Mrs. Ferreira died Sept. 2, 1999, in Vacaville following a brief illness.

Born Jan. 1, 1912, in Paahala Kauu, Hawaii, she lived in Vacaville for one year and had previously been a longtime resident of Vallejo and Marin.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge of Vallejo and NARF.

She enjoyed gardening, raising orchids, playing bingo and dancing to big-band music as well as taking trips to Reno.

Mrs. Ferreira will be missed by her family and remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Ferreira is survived by her daughter, Gwen Williams of Napa; a son, Mervyn of San Clemente; grandchildren, Ava Talamantez of Vacaville, Debra Spiliotis of Clovis, Gloria McIntosh of Novato, Vickie Guasco of San Anselmo, David of San Jose, Michael of Discovery Bay and Deirave of Los Angeles; a brother, Joe Shim of Michigan; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Ira J. Lewis

There will be no formal services held for Ira J. Lewis, 64, of Fairfield. A committal service will be held by the U.S. Navy aboard a naval ship off the coast of  Washington. He will be given full military honors aboard the ship by a Naval Honor Guard.

Mr. Lewis died Sept. 7, 1999, at his home in Fairfield.

Born on June 9, 1935, in Vaughn, N.M., he moved to the area seven years ago. After graduating from high school in Vaughn, Mr. Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955. He made his career in the Navy, serving for 30 years. During his service, he worked in naval aviation weapons and maintenance. In 1985, he retired as a lieutenant commander. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Blythe and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shawn and Daniel of Fair-field; son, Richard of Fairfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Angie of Trent, S.D., and David and Lori of Imperial; brother, Archie Sr. of El Paso,  Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Helen of Hawthorne; and sister-in-law, Betty Jo of Leesburg, Fla.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W.  Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533.

Edward N. 'Whiskers' Warner

Graveside services for Edward N. "Whiskers" Warner, 65, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. today at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Warner died Sept. 4, 1999, at his home in Vacaville.

Born on Feb. 18, 1934, in Fairfield, he was a 38-year resident of Vacaville and Solano County. He retired from the U.S. Air Force where he served 26 years, most recently as a command post controller. He was a master woodworker and outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping and home computing.

Mr. Warner is survived by his wife, L. Carle of Vacaville; sons, Edward Jr. of Lewiston, Idaho, and Gary of Vacaville; mother, Clara of Vacaville; and his "grand dog," Buddi.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kaiser Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, 94590; the American Cancer Society, care of Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Drive, Vacaville, 95688; or a charity of the donor's choice.

Willie E. Cruz, Maria Luisa C. DeGuzman-Cruz

A funeral Mass for Willie E. Cruz (aka Wilfredo delaCruz), 36, and Maria Luisa C. DeGuzman-Cruz, 40, both of Union City, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield.

Visitation will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Fairfield Funeral Home.

A rosary will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Cruz died Sept. 7, 1999, and Mrs. DeGuzman-Cruz died Sept. 8, 1999, after they were victims of a homicide at their Union City home.

Born on Oct. 1, 1962, in the Philippines, Mr. Cruz lived in Fairfield from 1989 to 1997 before moving to Union City. He was a maintenance man at North Point Apartments.

Born on Nov. 13, 1958, in the Philippines, Mrs. DeGuzman-Cruz lived in Union City for three years.

They were married for 2 1/2 years.

Mr. Cruz is survived by his mother, Mila of Fairfield; sisters, Liza of Fairfield, Marianina Shank of Hawaii, Delia Carpio of Fairfield, Mercedes of Sacramento, Evelyn Garcia and Norma Gavino of the Philippines, Elenita delaCruz of New Jersey and Teresita of Milpitas; and brothers, Juanito delaCruz of Fremont, Jesse delaCruz of Hayward and Manuel delaCruz of the Philippines.

Mrs. DeGuzman-Cruz is survived by her mother, Thelma DeGuzman of the Philippines; sisters, Cynthia Yniguez, Elizabeth Rebosa, Gracia Catacutan and Lourdes Olson of the Philippines; and brothers, Gregg DeGuzman and Jerry DeGuzman of the Philippines.

Sterling LaMont DuBose

Funeral services for Sterling LaMont DuBose, 31, of Fairfield will be 1 p.m. Monday at Solano Christian Fellowship in Fairfield.

The Rev. Curtis DuBose will officiate.

Mr. DuBose died Sept. 5, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

Born on Oct. 4, 1967, in Youngstown, Ohio, he lived in Fairfield for 17 years.

He worked for the city of Vacaville for 13 years and was most recently employed by KOL Containers. He was a graduate of Vacaville High School.

Mr. DuBose is survived by his wife, Kim Jennings DuBose of Fairfield; daughter, Dominique of Fairfield; son, Sterling of Fairfield; mother, Carol of Youngstown, Ohio; sisters, Danielle and Janelle of Sacramento; brother, James Anderson Sr. of Suisun; 13 nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mathew.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Juanita Anderson, 1106 Nancy Court, Suisun.
