James Russell Burris

A funeral for James Russell Burris, 63, of Fairfield will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Ebernezer Baptist Church in Rock Hill, S.C. Visitation will be held Friday at Robinson Funeral Home in Rock Hill, and disposition will be in Grandview Memorial Cemetery in Rock Hill.

Mr. Burris died Sept. 12, 1999, in Fairfield after a long illness. He was born Dec. 4, 1935, in Rock Hill, and graduated from high school in Columbus, Ohio. He attended college in Rock Hill and entered the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War. He served in the Air Force for 21 years, retiring as a master sergeant. He then worked for East Bay Municipal District in water treatment for 20 years. He had lived in Fairfield for 26 years.

Mr. Burris was a member of the Vallejo Masonic Lodge and the Retired Veterans Association. He was an avid sports fan and a member of Ebernezer Baptist Church. He was a loving husband and father.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Fairfield; mother, Mary Tate of  South Carolina; daughter, Ayanna of Woodbridge, Va.; sister, Barbara M. Boulware of Rock Hill; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Flowers may be sent to Robinson Funeral Home, 534 Hampton St., Rock Hill, S.C.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Emma P. Jensen

Memorial services for Emma P. Jensen will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Jensen, 91, died Sept. 10, 1999, at home after a short illness.

Mrs. Jensen was born on Dec. 28, 1907, in Fresno. She had been a Fairfield resident since 1963.

After graduating from Fresno State Teacher's College, she spent eight years teaching elementary school. Following her teaching career, Mrs. Jensen traveled in Europe with a group of friends, riding bicycles and staying in hostels. A member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, she brought food she prepared to the sick in her parish. She volunteered with the FISH program and was regarded as a role model by many.

Mrs. Jensen is survived by her husband Gilbert of Fairfield; daughters, Monica Thompson of Santa Rosa and Rebecca Speer of Forestville; sons, Joel of Fairfield and Jonathan of Redmond, Wa.; and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church's New Sanctuary Fund.

Arrangements are being handled by Fairfield Funeral Home.

James Jayson Morse

Memorial services for James Jayson Morse, 28, of Vallejo will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oasis Four Square Church in Elmira. Pastor Jack Duitsman will officiate.

Mr. Morse died Sept. 5, 1999, in a drowning accident in Winters.

Born April 21, 1971, in San Pablo, he moved to the area 12 years ago. He worked as a paint technician for Pride Industries for one year. He loved camping.

Mr. Morse is survived by his parents, James and Linda of Vacaville; uncle and aunt, Larry and Wanda Cossey of Fairfield; aunt, Dorothy  White of Vallejo; brothers, Timothy Douglas of Fairfield and Michael Robert of Vacaville; and cousins, Eric Cossey of Bonner Springs, Kan., and Dave Edwards of Fairfield; grandmother, Neva Cossey.

The Morse family wishes to extend special thanks to Vaca Valley Christian Life Center, Vaca Hills Chapel, Yolo County Sheriff's Department, Oasis Four Square Church and Hilltop Community Church of Richmond.

Earl Strickland

Inurnment services for Earl Strickland, 64, will be private.

Mr. Strickland died Sept. 7, 1999, in Vallejo.

Born on Aug. 18, 1935, in Florida, he had been a resident in Vacaville for the past six years. He worked as a baker for Safeway for more than 40 years and enjoyed reading and sports.

Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Jerry Ann of Vacaville; brother, Whitman of Apopka, Fla.; and sister, Irene of Apopka, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, care of Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Road, Vacaville, 95688.

Pamela Lee Timmons Corey

A private family memorial service will be held for Pamela Lee Timmons Corey, 59, of Truckee. Cremation was at the Masonic Memorial Gardens Crematory in Reno.

Mrs. Corey died Sept. 8, 1999, of cancer in Truckee.

Born on May 17, 1940, in Napa, she was educated there and then lived in Vacaville for 20 years before moving to Truckee 10 years ago. She worked for Tahoe Forest Hospital in the housekeeping department for the past six years and was a volunteer in the hospital's extended-care facility.

Mrs. Corey is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, William and Joni of Vacaville and Beau and Rhonda of Vacaville; sister, Marilyn Damiano of Truckee; and grandchildren, Marianne Weiss and Kyla, Nick and Jake, all of Vacaville. She was preceded in death by her son Hank in 1997.

Stanley Francis Montandon

A memorial service for Stanley Francis Montandon, 78, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Elder Bill Turgeon will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Montandon died Sept. 12, 1999, after a long illness at his home in Vacaville.

Born on May 1, 1921, in Neologany, Okla., he moved to Vacaville 40 years ago. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1962 as a first sergeant. He was a mail carrier for the Postal Service for 18 years and was a conductor at the Nut Tree for 12 years.

Mr. Montandon is survived by his wife of 26 years, Elizabeth of Vacaville; daughters, Nancy and Mary, both of Fairfield; stepdaughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Jerry Hayes, of Vacaville; sons and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Maryann of Alameda and Sabia of Fairfield; stepsons, Darwin and his wife, Debbie Painter, of Vacaville and Lake Painter of Vacaville; and sisters, Donna Mae Montandon of Mesa, Ariz., and Patricia Rowena Neugebauer of Branson, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Kaiser Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, 94590.

Ivan Verle Cooper

Private services for Ivan Verle Cooper, 72, of Vacaville will be held at sea.

Mr. Cooper died on Sept. 14, 1999, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo.

Born on May 24, 1927, in Beaumont, he was a carpenter for Hoffman Construction for more than 18 years before retiring in 1979. He was a member of the carpenters' union and Fairfield Moose Lodge and was a naval veteran of World War II. He loved bowling and traveling in his recreational vehicle.

Mr. Cooper is survived by his companion, Barbara Linfesty of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Lynn; mother, Nellie; and brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Marge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association or Diabetic Association.

Lipot Csorgo

Memorial services for Lipot Csorgo, 70, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Chapel Woodside Priory. Inurnment was private. A get-together will follow services in the cafeteria at the Hungarian Catholic Mission in Portola Valley.

Mr. Csorgo died July 5, 1999, in Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on Sept. 1, 1928, in Hungary, he moved to Vacaville 10 years ago. He was a general contractor in the San Francisco area for 40 years. He was a past president of the Hungarian Center in San Francisco and honorary president of the Hungarian soccer team. He loved soccer and history.

Mr. Csorgo is survived by his wife, Olga of Vacaville; daughters, Ilona, ZsaZsa and Zita, all of Vacaville, and Eva Hollo of Oakland; sister, Irene Gross of Oakland; and five grandchildren.

Herman L. Maddox

Funeral services for Herman L. Maddox, 71, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel. Chaplain George Dawson of the U.S. Air Force will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Interment will be at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine.

Mr. Maddox died Sept. 14, 1999, at his home in Vacaville.

Born on April 7, 1928, in Charleston, W.Va., he moved to the area 22 years ago. He was an aircraft mechanic with the Air Force, was in civil service for 48 years and was a volunteer at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base for many years. He also enjoyed motorcycles and loved using his computer.

Mr. Maddox is survived by his wife of 46 years, Irma of Vacaville; daughter, Doreen K. Smith of Vacaville; sons, Dennis of Vacaville and David of Hillsboro, Ore.; mother, Dorothy of Cleveland; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Wendell Parsons, of Cleveland; sister, Jean Barnes of Charleston, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Friends of Fisher House, care of Military Community Health Care Foundation, 831 Alamo Drive, Suite 6B, Vacaville, 95688.

Rev. George M. Peters

Services for the Rev. George M. Peters, 63, of Vacaville will be 11:30 a.m. today at St. Matthew Baptist Church. The Rev. Nathaniel Bragg will officiate.

Mr. Peters died Sept. 14, 1999, at David Grant Medical Center.

Born on Oct. 16, 1935, in Mashpee, Mass., he moved to Vacaville 18 years ago. He was an associate minister of St. Matthew Baptist Church. He was also a member of the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Peters is survived by his wife, Jewel; daughters, Teresa of Fairfield, Susan of Atlanta and Chantelle, Loretta, Robin and Monique, all of Mashpee, Mass.; sons, George of Vacaville and Ramon and Wayne of Fairfield; sisters, Ester Louise and Ernestine, both of Mashpee Mass.; 20 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Jennie J. Powaiba

A Mass of the Resurrection for Jennie J. Powaiba, 87, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer, Mich. The Rev. Joseph Carne will officiate. Local visitation was held at Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Powaiba died Sept. 15, 1999, at VacaValley Hospital.

Born on March 15, 1912, in Poland, she moved to Vacaville nine years ago. She was a homemaker all her adult life and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville. She lived in Bessemer from 1934 to 1990.

Mrs. Powaiba is survived by her daughters, Helen A. Lawrence of King George, Va., Renee Barr of Lansing, Mich., and Mary Kenny of Vacaville; sister, Constance Bohdziewicz of Poland; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Alex, in 1970.

Pedro P. Sapao

Funeral services for Pedro P. Sapao, 81, of Fairfield will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. The Rev. Sebastian Meyer will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Mr. Sapao died Sept. 16, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

Born on Oct. 8, 1917, in the Philippines, he moved to Fairfield 22 years ago. He worked at the Travis Air Force Base dining facility and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Philippine community of St. Catherine.

Mr. Sapao is survived by his wife, Maria of Fairfield; daughters, Elizabeth French of Fairfield, Susie Monura of Honolulu, Aura of Fairfield, Leonila Endris of Phoenix, Ariz., Mercedez of Fairfield, and Eloisa Orfitelli of Suisun; sons, Edilberto and Raymond, both of Fairfield; brother, Anastacio of Denver; and sister, Marcosa of the Philippines. He also had 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Viola Durso

Memorial services for Viola Durso, 94, of Vallejo will be held privately by her family.

Inurnment will be private at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mrs. Durso died Sept. 16, 1999, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo after a long illness.

Born on Jan. 1, 1905, in Willits, she moved to Vallejo 60 years ago.

She was a homemaker for more than 60 years and was an avid gardener.

Mrs. Durso is survived by her daughters, Hazel Terra and LaVerne Brazil, both of Fairfield; sons, Ernest Crandell Jr. of Sonoma, Kenneth Crandell of Sonoma and Charles Crandell of Napa; and sisters, Leta Terra of Napa, Bertha Wright of Lakeport and Georgie Colvin of Benicia. She also has 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lorraine Golden in 1977; and son, Walter Crandell in 1995.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Solano County Unit, 1652 W.  Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533.
