Kim Sires Ortiz

At her request, no services will be held for Kim Sires Ortiz, 33, of Vacaville.

Miss Ortiz died Sept. 20, 1999, in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Born on Feb. 1, 1966, in San Francisco, she moved to the area 15 years ago. A phlebotomist for Marin General Hospital, Miss Ortiz enjoyed boating, camping, Jet Skiing, baking, old sports cars, golfing and her cat, Reba. She was a wonderful and loving daughter and aunt.

Miss Ortiz is survived by her mother, Linda of Vacaville; father, Frank of San Anselmo; grandmother, Angelica Bondoc of San Francisco; sister, Lisa of Vacaville; brother, Rick of Vallejo; aunt, Alicia Shepard of San Francisco; nieces, Ashley Goodwin of Vacaville and Lexus of Vallejo; nephew, Ryan of Vallejo; and best friend and longtime companion, Sally Strand. She also leaves behind many friends and golfing buddies.

Helene Ross

Funeral services for Helene Ross, 84, of Vacaville will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

Pastor Lester Seto of Bethany Lutheran Church will preside.

Burial will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.

Mrs. Ross died Sept. 22, 1999, in Vacaville following a brief illness.

Born June 22, 1915, in Walla Walla, Wash., she had lived in Vacaville for 2 1/2 years and lived in Oceanside for 36 years before moving here.

She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Ross is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Jerry Smiley of Vacaville; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church, located at 621 S. Orchard Ave., Vacaville, 95688.

Angela M. Damron

A Catholic memorial service for Angela M. Damron, 92, of Fairfield, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate. Inurnment will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery.

Mrs. Damron died Sept. 24, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

Born on Sept. 7, 1907, in San Francisco, she moved to Fairfield 15 years ago. She worked as a hostess at Hyatt House in San Francisco. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed the slot machines in Reno and loved life and her family.

Mrs. Damron is survived by her grandchildren, Barbara Lyon of Martinez, James Lyon of Hemet, William Lyon and Linda Cinti of Petaluma, Patricia Cooper of Fremont, Diane Armas of Elko, Nev., and Janis Varner of Mesa, Ariz.; and close friends, Hobbit Weatherford of Martinez, and Bell Berry of Santa Cruz.

Jimmie 'J.P.' Paul

Funeral services for Jimmie "J.P." Paul, 61, of Vacaville, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Interment will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Friends may call at McCune Garden Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Paul died Sept. 22, 1999, while camping at Lake Almanor.

Born on July 4, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, he lived in Vacaville and Solano County for 38 years. He worked as a welder and welding instructor for Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo for 34 years. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 134 of Vacaville. He enjoyed fishing, camping, tinkering and welding machinery.

Mr. Paul is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lois of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Bernie and Rob Gustavsen of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Laurie of Amarillo,  Texas; stepson, Williams Mason; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Patti and Jay Wiley of Vacaville; grandchildren, Billy and Michael Gustavsen of Vacaville, James and Kayla of Amarillo,  Texas, and Brianna Green and Sarah Wiley of Vacaville; brother, Jerry of Des Moines, Iowa; and sister, Nita Davis, also of Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 105 Astrid Drive, Pleasant Hill, 94523, or the "Firecrackers" Volunteer Fire Department, care of Donna Scott, 2567 Almanor Drive West, Canyon Dam, 95923.

Joseph Clayton Romel

A memorial service for Joseph Clayton Romel, 89, of Paradise will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Paradise Elks Lodge.

Mr. Romel died Sept. 23, 1999, at a hospital in the Paradise area.

Born on Oct. 19, 1909, in Lancaster, Pa., he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1927 and served two years before graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in engineering.

From 1931 to 1936 he worked on the Hoover and Parker dams, and he worked at Mare Island from 1941 to 1946. From there, he worked for Pacific Gas & Electric for 25 years. In 1972 he worked for Gordon Ball and Teichert Construction. He was a member of the Paradise Elks Lodge No. 2026 and a charter member of the SIRS No. 82. He enjoyed gardening, music and watching sports.

Mr. Romel is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Paradise; son, Joe Jr. of Vacaville; daughter, Kathy Blanton of San Jose; and stepson, Ron O'Keefe of Cottage Grove. He also has three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Elks Foundation in care of the Brusie Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements.

David P. Tufft

Memorial services for David P. Tufft, 41, of Vacaville, will be 2 p.m. on Oct. 3 at Community Presbyterian Church.

The Revs. Thomas Smith and Dr. John Turpin will co-officiate. Inurnment will be private at Rockville Cemetery.

Mr. Tufft died Sept. 21, 1999, at his home in Vacaville.

Born on June 21, 1958, in Gilroy, he moved to Vacaville seven years ago after he moved from Green Valley, where he lived from 1972 to 1992. He lived in Vallejo from 1965 to 1972.

He graduated from Justin-Siena High School with the Class of 1976. He owned and operated Fairpoint Transit Services in Vacaville for the past six years and worked as a finishing carpenter at Travis Air Force Base and in Sacramento for six years. He also worked as a chef in Napa until 1976.

Mr. Tufft is survived by his parents, the Rev. Ernest and Gloria Tufft of Vacaville; sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Davis Cowles of Stockton; brother and sister-in-law, Ernest Alan and Belinda of Stockton; maternal grandmother, Mabel Ratcliffe of Los Angeles; nephews, Jess Cowles, David Bostick and Thomas Cowles, all of Folsom; and uncles, James of Hermon, Dr. John Tufft of Hemet, Herbert Ratcliffe of Fremont, Dr. Robert Tufft of Pebble Beach, Col. Arthur Tufft of Woodland and Edwin Ratcliffe of Downey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity, 1875 Fairfield Ave., Room 12, Fairfield, 94533.

Charles A. Williams

Funeral services for Charles A. Williams, 69, of Fairfield, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairfield Funeral Home.

Burial with military honors will be at Suisun Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Williams died Sept. 23, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center .

Born on Jan. 30, 1930, in Hemphill, W.Va., he moved to Fairfield 36 years ago. He was a retired personnel clerk for the U.S. Air Force for 20 years.

Mr. Williams is survived by his daughters, Shirley Threatt of Suisun, Linda Moore of Sacramento and Sandra of Fairfield; sons, Charles Jr. of Oakland and James of Seattle; and numerous sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. He also has 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Louis F. Ferrari

A Catholic Prayer Service for Louis F. Ferrari Jr., 85, of Fairfield will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Mr. Ferrari died Sept. 25, 1999, in NorthBay Medical Center after a long illness.

Born Sept. 7, 1914, in Collinsville, he lived in Fairfield for 46 years and was a lifetime resident of Solano County. He worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska for 40 years. Most of his time in Alaska was spent during the summer months of salmon fishing season. He worked as a construction worker for the Syars Industries for 25 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 3.

Mr. Ferrari enjoyed fishing, either commercially or for sport.

Mr. Ferrari is survived by his wife, Ann C. of Fairfield; daughters, Edith Kovacas of Sumner, Wash., Louise Gammage of Dorset, England, Sharon Goff of Vacaville and Debbie of Winters; sisters, Betty McKenzie and Mary Thiessen, both of Rio Vista; brothers, Pete of Collinsville and Guy of Rio Vista; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Sybil May Thierry

A funeral for Sybil May Thierry, 84, of Fairfield will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairfield Funeral Home. Pastor Mike McCamey of Fairfield First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born Sept. 15, 1915, in Hamburg, Iowa, Mrs. Thierry died Sept. 25, 1999, at home.

A resident of Fairfield for 61 years, Mrs. Thierry was a medical secretary for 32 years in United States civil service. During her later years, she was well known and respected for caring for several terminally ill relatives for many years. She led a Christian life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Solano County Genealogical Society.

She was interested in music, ballroom dancing, reading, genealogy and gardening. She was a skilled seamstress and fine organist.

Mrs. Thierry is survived by her husband, Robert of Fairfield; brother, Dale Anderson of Susanville; sister, Leah Anderson of Fairfield; nieces, Kathryn and Stephanie  Jackson of Carson City and Michelle Anderson of Susanville; nephews, Steven Anderson of Susanville and David  Jackson of Reno.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Anderson and Lena May (Hardy) Anderson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fairfield Funeral Home.

Robert W. Henderson

A memorial service for Robert W. Henderson, 66, of Fairfield will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Chapel Center on Travis Air Force Base. Chaplain Donald Bernet of Travis Air Force Base will officiate. A private burial will be held Tuesday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born April 12, 1933, in Savannah, Miss., Mr. Henderson died Sept. 25, 1999, at David Grant Medical center.

A Fairfield resident for 23 years, Mr. Henderson graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School in Denver. He was a member of the Colorado Air National Guard and was called to active duty in 1951 during the Korean War. During his 26-year National Guard career, he was one of the first flight engineers trained on C-5s, flying more than 15,000 hours before retiring in 1976. He also worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 14 years.

Mr. Henderson trained in 1981 as a marine machinist and was part of the nuclear refueling team. He retired from that in 1981 due to health reasons. He was a member of St. Michael's Parish, Travis Eucharist Ministers, Knights of Columbus Chief Solano Council, Knights of Columbus Altmira 24th degree, Disabled Veterans and Air Force Sergeants Association.

Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marjorie of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and James Cook of Lakeside; son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Sandra of Travis Air Force Base; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Howard Doescher of Alexandria, Va.; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Robert and Jeffrey, all of Travis Air Force Base.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ruth Mary Hopkins

Graveside services for Ruth Mary Hopkins, 83, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. today in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

The Rev. Vincent O'Reilly of St. Joseph's Church will officiate.

Mrs. Hopkins died Sept. 27, 1999, in Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a sudden illness.

Born Dec. 5, 1915, in Salt Lake City, she lived in Vacaville for one year. She worked as a hotel clerk for Hotel Utah for 40 years and was a member of the Hotel Utah Greeters.

Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her stepchildren, Keith, Lorraine and Bob, all of Utah; sister, Catherine Williams of Vacaville; brother, David Boucher of Bountiful, Utah; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were made by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Don Ransbottom

Services for Don Ransbottom, 46, of Vacaville will be 11 a.m. Friday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Burial will be at Rolling Hills Memorial Park in El Sobrante.

Mr. Ransbottom died Sept. 26, 1999, in Vacaville after a sudden illness.

Born May 23, 1953, in Oakland, he moved to Vacaville 14 years ago. Mr. Ransbottom worked as a salesman all of his life and was very good at it. He also will be remembered as an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his daughter, Jessica of Vacaville; son, Josh of Vacaville; and granddaughter, Aujanique Fox of Vacaville.

Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, also at the McCune chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Ransbottom's name to McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville, 95688.
