Sandra Jo Ozella

Funeral services for Sandra Jo Ozella, 61, of Vacaville will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Ozella died Oct. 25, 1999, in Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco.

Born Aug. 3, 1938, in Martinez, she moved to the area in 1978. She worked as an administrative assistant for the University of California, Davis, for 11 years.

Mrs. Ozella is survived by her husband, Ronald of Vacaville; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Michael Ferguson of Martinez and Vicki and Richard Bojourquez of Suisun; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Valerie of Vacaville; sister, Loryn Light of Bend, Ore.; brother, Scott Harbaugh of Martinez; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Gerald E. Phillips

A memorial service for Gerald E. Phillips, 86, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Vacaville. The Rev. Tom Smith will officiate. Interment will be private.

Mr. Phillips died on Oct. 25, 1999, at VacaValley Hospital.

Born on Oct. 26, 1912, in Bridgeport,  Texas, he lived in Vacaville and Solano County for the past 49 years. He worked as a Federal Housing Authority inspector for 21 years and as a city of Vacaville building inspector for 10 years. He was a member and past deacon of the Community Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed gardening and was known as a skilled craftsman, especially in wood.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eula of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and William Lersch of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Barbara of Kapaa, Hawaii; sister, Jeanette of Vacaville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Community Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 425 Hemlock St., Vacaville, 95688; Alzheimer's Aid Society of Northern California, P.O. Box 1824, Sacramento, 95812; or a charity of the donor's choice.

Louis Rico

No funeral will be held for Louis Rico, 94, of Victorville. The former Vacaville resident's burial will be Wednesday at Oak Hills Cemetery in San Jose.

Mr. Rico died Oct. 23, 1999, at a Victorville convalescent home.

Born in Firestone,  Colo., he came to Vacaville in 1917 when the Costanzo Rico family of nine moved to Vacaville from Brighton,  Colo. He attended elementary and high schools in Vacaville and also was employed as a printer for The Reporter before moving to San Francisco in 1924.

Mr. Rico was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, in July 1998. He is survived by his daughter, Julia Balistreri of Victorville; and two grandchildren, both of Victorville. He also is survived by two brothers, John and James, both of Vacaville.

Fern E. Shefko

No funeral is planned for Fern E. Shefko, 81, of Vacaville.

Mrs. Shefko will be interred in Webster City, Iowa.

A resident of Leisure Town since 1985, she had been in the grocery business for 30 years and enjoyed card playing and crocheting.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Virginia Hassinger of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dale Keller of Iowa; granddaughters, Pamela Brockman of Clarion, Iowa, Kelly Hassinger of Decatur, Ill., Dale LeAnn Stuhr of Iowa and Teri Schorzmann of Woodstock, Iowa; grandsons, Christian and Richard R. Hassinger of Fairfield and Troy Hassinger of Sacramento; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Leo B. Valadez

Funeral services for Leo B. Valadez, 78, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville. The Rev. Anthony Maio will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

Mr. Valadez died on Oct. 25, 1999, after a long illness.

Born on March 21, 1921, in Los Angeles, he worked at Mare Island for 37 years as an electrician on nuclear submarines. He was a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America and a post master for Explorers. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Association of Retired Persons, Legion of Mary, and ICF. He served in World War II and was decorated with two Bronze Stars.

Mr. Valadez is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Catalina of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Richard Estrada of Citrus Heights; sons, Robert of Corona and Leo B. Jr. of Vacaville; sister, Victoria Cavazos of Vacaville; and brother, Less of Albuquerque, N.M. He also had 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ted Branton

A funeral for Ted Branton, 65, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fairfield Church of Christ. John Reed will officiate. Another service will follow at 312 Gregory St. in Fairfield with Thuong Toa Nhatminh. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mr. Branton died on Oct. 26, 1999, at his home in Fairfield.

Born on Aug. 7, 1934, in Los Angeles, he moved to Fairfield 14 years ago after having lived in South America. He worked as a project manager in construction for 40 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He also was an avid golfer and was a collector of cars and trains.

Mr. Branton is survived by his wife, Wendy of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Branton and Michael Koks; daughter, Debi Theis of Dallas; sons and daughters-in-law, Minh and Liliana of Saudi Arabia and Joe and Marlene of Saudi Arabia; sister, Bette Williamson of Grand Rapids, Mich.; aunt, Vola May Stevens of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandchildren, Daniel, Christian, Beau and Tiana of Saudi Arabia; and father-in-law, Khan Nguyen of Fairfield. He also had numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Judith A. 'Judy' Coates

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday for Judith A. "Judy" Coates, 59, of Vacaville. Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Coates died Oct. 22, 1999, at her home following a long illness.

Born Nov. 19, 1939, in Stoneham, Mass., she had grown up there and in other cities along the East Coast. She joined the United States Air Force, and in 1960 her military service brought her to Travis Air Force Base. In 1961, she left the military to start raising a family. A longtime resident of California, she lived in Vacaville for more than 35 years.

Her most memorable job was working for Kingpin of Vacaville as an engraver, and during the 1970s and 1980s she enjoyed her hobby of bowling for different leagues in Vacaville and Fairfield.

She is survived by her daughter, Chris of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Roger Neuenkirk of Beale Air Force Base; granddaughter, Arianna Neuenkirk of Beale Air Force Base; three brothers, Paul, John and Richard Roberts and their families, all of Massachusetts; a brother-in-law, Robert Ahearn and his daughters, Sharon Ahearn and Colleen Mulligan, all of California; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth Roberts.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St. in Vacaville.

Memorial contributions can be made to NorthBay Hospice, 1800  Pennsylvania Ave., Fairfield, 94533-9980.

Lorraine Voss

A funeral Mass for Lorraine E. Voss, 48, of Vacaville will be 4 p.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Louis Valenzuela will officiate. Inurnment will be private. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel.

Ms. Voss died on Oct. 20, 1999, after a long battle with breast cancer at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo.

Born on Sept. 22, 1951, in Plymouth, Mich., she was a resident of Vacaville and Solano County for the past 17 years. She was a Solano County conflict defender for 14 years. While attending law school at Golden Gate University, she worked as a paralegal for famed San Francisco attorney Melvin Belli. She worked for the Tulare County Public Defender's Office before coming to Solano County in 1984. She was a member of the Women's Lawery, California State Bar Association, Public Defenders Association, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice Association, Solano County Women's Lawyers Association and Women's Defenders Association.

She enjoyed traveling, movies, visiting San Francisco, gardening and antiques. She was a very creative person.

Ms. Voss is survived by her daughter, Angeline of Vacaville; mother, Josephine of Vacaville; and sisters, Eileen Riehl of Dallas, Patricia Anne of Richmond and Mary Josephine Henniger-Voss of Mechanisburg, Pa. She also had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frank G. LoPolito

A Catholic prayer service for Frank G. LoPolito, 88, of Vacaville, will be 1 p.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel.

The Rev. Vincent O'Reilly will officiate. Interment will follow at Silveyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel with a rosary at 4 p.m.

Mr. LoPolito died on Oct. 27, 1999, after a long illness.

Born on Dec. 5, 1910, he lived in Vacaville all his life. He worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 30 years. His true passion was farming, and he grew apricots and other fruit in the English Hills his entire life. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity.

Mr. LoPolito is survived by his daughters, Frances Neade and Margaret Bustamante of Vacaville and Mary Campanello of Scottsdale, Ariz.; son, Carmen of Vacaville; sisters, Lucille Klos of Los Angeles and Anna Pierce of Napa; brother, Anthony of West Chester, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Bertha J. McMurray

No formal services will be held for Bertha J. McMurray, 94, of Vacaville. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. McMurray died on Oct. 25, 1999, after a brief illness.

Born on Sept. 24, 1905, she was a resident of Vacaville since 1995. She was in the restaurant business as an owner/operator for 50 years and was a member of the Covenant Community Church of Vacaville. Cooking and helping people were her passions.

Mrs. McMurray is survived by her granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Patricia and Larry Calfee of Vacaville and Joan and Scott Cresse of Dixon; six great-grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Outreach Program at Covenant Community Church, 3870 Alamo Drive, Vacaville, 95687.

William Michael Kuntz

A Mass of the Resurrection for William Michael Kuntz, 73, will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The Rev. William Feeser will officiate. Friends may call the Nadeau Family Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Kuntz died Oct. 26, 1999, in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Born March 28, 1926, in Morton County, N.D., Mr. Kuntz lived in Vacaville for the past 10 years after having lived for 42 years in El Sobrante. He was a body and fender repairman for 48 years, who owned his own shop, B & R Body Shop in El Sobrante. He was a member of the International Automotive and Machinists Union Local 1546.

Mr. Kuntz is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice of Vacaville; daughter, Linda Thatcher of Vacaville; sons, Rick, Clay and Larry of Vacaville and Rod of Pacheco; brother, Herman of Valley Springs; and sisters, Delores Schwartz of El Sobrante, Annie Schwartz of San Pablo and Leona Ressler, Agnes Sneed, Yvonne Fleck, Diane Jahrous and Delanor Schwartz of Mandon, N.D.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-1905.

Andrea Delores Martinez

A funeral Mass for Andrea Delores Martinez, 85, of Davis will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church, with the rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. The Rite of Committal will take place at Davis Cemetery.

Mrs. Martinez died on Oct. 28, 1999, at Sierra Health Care in Davis.

Born on Nov. 13, 1913, in Woodland, she was a member of the Pena-Vaca family that settled in the Vacaville area in the late 1800s. She was a homemaker who lived in Yolo County her entire life.

She was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church and enjoyed sewing and crafts during her free time.

Mrs. Martinez is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Phyliss and Tom and Juanita; daughter and son-in-law, Dolores Dumont and William Kelly; brother, Tom Pena; sister, Narcissa Pena; grandchildren, Terri, Tom, Joey, Katherine, Patricia, Lori and Rebecca; eight great-grandchildren; seven nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose, in 1986; granddaughter, Karen; and sisters, Clara Raubach and Juanita Huitt.
