Toshiko Shippey

Memorial services for Toshiko Shippey, 66, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Solano Valley Mortuary.

The Rev. Newton Ishiura will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Ms. Shippey died on Oct. 22, 1999, after a brief illness.

Born on Oct. 29, 1932, in Japan, she lived in Vacaville for the past 42 years. She was a housekeeper at the Westwind Inn for 42 years.

Ms. Shippey is survived by her sister, Shizue Suzuki of Japan; brothers, Horiquchi Misao and Takaharu of Japan; and close friends, JoAnn Houtman of Suisun, Hisako Goodell of Suisun, Judy Tedford of Fairfield and Cecilia Strawn of Fairfield.

Abe Tortosa

Private services will be held for Abe Tortosa, 82, of Vacaville. Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Tortosa died on Oct. 29, 1999, in Fairfield.

Born on April 20, 1917, he lived in Vacaville all his life. He worked as a rancher and, for many years, as a general contractor building custom homes. He was also the director for Sun Sweet Growers and was active in school bond issues.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Green Valley Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and doing carpentry in his spare time. He was very active in life, but his family was always his No. 1 priority, and he will be remembered as a loving husband and father.

Mr. Tortosa is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances of Suisun; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Joe Urrutia of San Rafael; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jull of Alpine; grandchildren, David Urrutia of San Rafael and Adam and Hanna, both of Alpine; sisters, Isabel Perry of  Washington and Annie Amaya of Fremont; and brother-in-law, Al Albacete of Vacaville. He also had many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, care of Ruth Bradanini, 290 Fruitvale Road, Vacaville, 95688.

Judith A. 'Judy' Coates

Funeral services for Judith A. "Judy" Coates, 59, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at McCune Garden Chapel. Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Coates died Oct. 22, 1999, at her home following a long illness.

Born Nov. 19, 1939, in Stoneham, Mass., she had grown up there and in other cities along the East Coast. She joined the U.S. Air Force, and in 1960 her military service brought her to Travis Air Force Base.

In 1961, she left the military to start raising a family. A longtime resident of California, she had lived in Vacaville for more than 35 years.

Her most memorable job was working for Kingpin of Vacaville as an engraver, and during the 1970s and 1980s she enjoyed her hobby of bowling for different leagues in Vacaville and Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth Roberts.

She is survived by her son, Chris of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Roger Neuenkirk of Beale Air Force Base; granddaughter, Arianna Neuenkirk of Beale Air Force Base; three brothers, Paul, John and Richard Roberts and their families, all of Massachusetts; brother-in-law, Robert Ahearn and his daughters, Sharon Ahearn and Colleen Mulligan, all of California; and many friends.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St. in Vacaville.

Memorial contributions can be made to Northbay Hospice, 1800  Pennsylvania Ave., Fairfield, 94533-9980.

Scott Earnest Gregory

A funeral for Scott Earnest Gregory, 29, of Green Valley will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The Rev. Vincent O'Reilly will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rockville Cemetery.

Mr. Gregory died on Oct. 27, 1999, in a motorcycle accident.

Born on Aug. 4, 1970, in Santa Clara, he lived in Green Valley for the past 14 years. He worked as a mechanic at Good Times Kawasaki in Vacaville for the past two years.

He attended St. Cyprians Elementary School in Sunnyvale through the sixth-grade before going to Green Valley Middle School and eventually graduating from Armijo High School. His hobby was motorcycles, and was a very loving soul with a free spirit.

Mr. Gregory is survived by his parents, Clyde and Sharon of Green Valley; grandmother, Jewel Melvin of Sunnyvale; sister, Christy Davies of Vacaville; brother, Jack Davies of Sunnyvale; and niece, Katrina Dentino of Vacaville. He also had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

James W. 'Buddy' Coffee

Funeral services for James W. "Buddy" Coffee, 49, of Fairfield, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Elder D.A. Lane will officiate. Interment will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Coffee died on Oct. 30, 1999, in Fairfield.

Born on Aug. 5, 1950, in Richmond, he lived in Fairfield for the past 20 years. He worked as part of the maintenance crew at Paradise Valley Golf Course in Fairfield. He attended Las Juntas Grammar School in Martinez before going to Martinez Junior High School and eventually graduating from Alhambra High School, also in Martinez. He was an avid restorer of automobiles. One of his disappointments was that he will miss the delivery of his fifth grandson, expected in December.

Mr. Coffee is survived by parents, William and Zelma of Fairfield; daughters, Sabrina Antoque, and Samantha Martiel, both of Fairfield; son, Buddy of Fairfield; sisters, Brenda Managan of Bay Point, and Louise Gonzalez of Fairfield; brothers, David of Suisun City, James Franks of Martinez, and Henry Crabtree of Susanville. He also has four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

David Earl McKenzie

Funeral services for David Earl McKenzie, 68, of Dixon will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church in Vacaville.

Pastor Milton Steck will officiate. Interment will follow at Silveyville Cemetery. Friends may call the Nadeau Family Funeral Home between 6 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mr. McKenzie died on Oct. 30, 1999, at Sutter Davis Hospital.

Born on April 19, 1931, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a resident of Dixon for the past 27 years. He worked as a hoist operator for Spreckles Sugar Co. for the past seven years.

Mr. McKenzie is survived by his wife of 30 years, Casta L. of Dixon; and daughters, Alice Letona of Vacaville and Karla Alvarado of Dixon.

Paul A. Rhodes

Funeral services for Paul A. Rhodes, 73, of Vacaville, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Alamo Chapel in Vacaville. Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Rhodes died on Oct. 29, 1999, at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

Born on June 5, 1926, in Salt Lake City, he lived in Vacaville for the past 13 years after having lived in Pleasant Hill. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill before eventually graduating from the University of California, Berkeley. He was the director of computer operations for Lawrence Berkeley National Lab before he retired in 1988.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Vacaville First Ward, L.D.S. Oakland Temple worker, and former Cub and Scout master. His hobbies included farming, fishing, and spending time with this family.

Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife of 51 years, JoAnne of Vacaville; daughters, Joellen of Livermore, and Marilyn of Vacaville; son, Allan of Vacaville; sister, Geraldine Newton of West Valley City, Utah; and grandchildren, Cory, Courtney, and Kirstin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity. Arrangements were by Oak Park Hills Chapel in Walnut Creek.

Aurora Arijona Brazil

A Catholic Prayer Service for Aurora Arijona Brazil, 48, of Japan, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Vaca Hills Chapel. The Rev. Bill Feeser of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Sept. 5, 1951, in the Philippines, Mrs. Brazil died Oct. 28, 1999, in San Francisco.

Mrs. Brazil was a homemaker who enjoyed shopping and collecting Lladro figurines. She moved four years ago to Okinawa, Japan, with her husband, Rocky, who is serving in the Navy Civil Service.

Mrs. Brazil is survived by her husband, Rocky of Japan; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Frances of Japan; brothers, Rudolpho, Ernesto, Roger, Leo and Renato, all of the Philippines; sisters, Josefina and Marieta of the Philippines.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at Vaca Hills Chapel.

Craig G. 'Craigo' Powell

Graveside services for Craig G. "Craigo" Powell, 20, of Suisun City will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Pastor Vernon Barker of NorthBay Faith Center will officiate.

Born June 8, 1979, in Fairfield, Mr. Powell died Oct. 28, 1999, in Fairfield, the victim of a traffic accident.

A former student at Armijo High School, Mr. Powell worked as a laborer for Labor Ready for one year, and was remembered as a caring young man with a big heart.

He was survived by his father and stepmother, Garland and Gail Powell of Suisun City; mother and stepfather, Rozelle and Keith Danilson of Fairfield; grandparents, John and Dorothy Powell of San Dimas and Frances Vega of Fairfield; sisters, Sarah Powell, Michelle Danilson and Hannah Danilson, all of Fairfield; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home.

Jean Arbuckle

A funeral for Jean Arbuckle, 72, of Vacaville will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Vaca Hills Chapel. Burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Arbuckle died Nov. 1, 1999, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 23, 1927, in San Francisco, she moved to Vacaville in 1979. Dedicated to her family and friends, she will be remembered lovingly by all who knew her.

Mrs. Arbuckle is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harry; son, William of Dublin; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Martin Whittmers, Joyce and Adrian De La Torre and Hazel and Tony Quintana, all of Vacaville; grandchildren, William, James and Timothy Willwerth, Joseph, Jean and Michelle De La Torre, Athena  White, Aaron, David and Christina Wittmers and Rachel and Natalia Quintana; great-granddaughter, Wendy; and nieces, Mary Anne Lowery, Antoinette Doyle, Sandra Gado and Barbara Veach.

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Vaca Hills Chapel. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Vacaville.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Bruce Clark and the hospice staff of Kaiser for their excellent and compassionate care.

Donations may be made to Kaiser Hospice.

Benjamin D. David

A Mass of Christian Burial for Benjamin D. David, 80, of Fairfield will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Luciano Valenzuela will officiate. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and Thursday.

Mr. David died on Oct. 30, 1999, in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on May 15, 1919, in Pampanga, Philippines, he lived in Fairfield for the past nine years. He owned a business, working as a painter and contractor for business and residential housing for 20 years.

Mr. David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Librada of Fairfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Luisa of Fairfield, Zenaida and Nardo Dizon of Guam, Charito and Alex San Juan of Union City, Murita and Virgil Bascara of Fairfield and Margie and James Leong of South San Francisco; son and daughters-in-law, Ramon of Hayward, Pol and Cora of San Jose, Cesar and Cita of the Philippines and Nick and Mercy of Guam. He also had 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Margaret Paice Furco

A funeral for Margaret Paice Furco, 84, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Vacaville. The Rev. Stephen Leonetti will officiate. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Mrs. Furco died on Nov. 1, 1999, at VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Born on July 12, 1915, in Syracuse, N.Y., she lived in Vacaville for the past 42 years. She worked as a secretary for eight years for the California Department of Corrections and California Medical Facility. Before that, she worked as an aviation secretary for the Federal Aviation Association for many years, during which she made her transition from Syracuse to Travis Air Force Base. She was a member of the McBride Senior Center and was a dog breeder.

Mrs. Furco is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jim of Vacaville; daughter, JoAnne Thornton of Vacaville; sons, James of Fairfield, Jon of Dunsmuir and Timothy of Vallejo. She also had five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Chong C. Rutledge

A funeral for Chong C. Rutledge, 56, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. Stan Sanderson will officiate. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rutledge died on Nov. 1, 1999, at University of California, Davis, Medical Center.

Born on July 16, 1943, in Korea, she lived in Fairfield for the past 23 years. She worked at NorthBay Medical Center for the past 23 years.

Mrs. Rutledge is survived by her husband, Charles of Fairfield; son, Bruce of Woodland; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Christian Rutledge in 1967.
