Jason A. Adams

A funeral for Jason A. Adams, 22, of Napa will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Napa.

Mr. Adams died on May 25, 2000, at his mother's home in Auburn.

Born on May 17, 1978, in Vallejo, he was raised in Napa and Vacaville. He enjoyed anything relating to the outdoors, including 4-wheeling in his Toyota 4-by-4, fishing, camping and horseback riding on his Peruvian Pasos horses. He enjoyed country music, especially Tim McGraw, and line dancing. He also enjoyed learning to operate large trucks with his Class 1 license, and spending time with his friends and family. He was a very kind and loving person.

He had been fighting melanoma for the past five years and had undergone at least 11 operations, including radiation surgery, chemotherapy treatments and interferon treatments. Through all that, he kept his humor and faith at a high level, refusing to give up. He is now at peace and completely free of cancer.

Mr. Adams is survived by his father and stepmother, Tom and Karlene of Napa; mother and stepfather, June and William Beatty of Auburn; brothers, Erik Koval and Brandon; sister, Caitlin; and grandparents, Frank and Van Adams and Hilde Little.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to "Jason Adams," U.C. Regents, University of California, Davis, Medical Center, 2315 Stockton Blvd., Broadway Bldg., Suite 1150, Sacramento, 95817, for children's cancer research.

Mildred Lillian Ambrose

A Catholic Mass for Mildred Lillian Ambrose, 85, of Suisun will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Michael Downey will officiate. Burial will be at All Souls Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Ambrose died on May 26, 2000, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo after a long illness.

Born on June 24, 1914, in St. Louis, she lived in Suisun for the past 14 years after having lived in Vallejo for 24 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mrs. Ambrose is survived by her daughter, Judith of Suisun; and son, Dan of Suisun. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, and her son, Thomas Jr.

Arrangements are being handled by Fairfield Funeral Home.

Robert Clark Taliaferro

A funeral for Robert Clark Taliaferro, 86, of Fairfield will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. The Rev. David Bunje will officiate. Entombment will be at Fairmont Memorial Park in Fairfield. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Taliaferro died on May 25, 2000, in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born on Feb. 26, 1914, in Vallejo, he was a lifelong resident of Solano County. He graduated from Vallejo High School in 1932 and resided for the past 46 years in Fairfield. He retired from the Solano County Assessor's Office in 1975 after more than 28 years of service as an appraiser.

He was a member of the Vallejo Parlor Native Sons for 60 years and was past president and past district deputy of the parlor. He was also a member of Community United Methodist Church of Fairfield and Monday Morning Breakfast Club. He was past president of the Solano Employees Association and former member and past secretary and treasurer of the F.A.S.T. Lions Club. He was also a former member of the Fairfield Elks and SIRS. He loved to travel, take long walks and garden.

Mr. Taliaferro is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathryn of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Rick Truex of Fairfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and JoAnn of Vacaville and Frank and Gwyn of Honolulu; grandchildren, Kevin and Jeff of Vacaville, Keith Truex of Fairfield, Robin Truex of Sacramento, and Kanani and Kekoa, both of Honolulu; and great-grandchild, Zachary of Vacaville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Community United Methodist Church fund for Robert Taliaferro, Fairfield Avenue and Kensington Drive, Fairfield, 94533, or the American Cancer Society, Solano County unit, 1652 W. Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533.

Gustavo D. Rios

A funeral for Gustavo D. Rios, 77, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. The Rev. Luis Rosales will preside. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Born April 10, 1923, in San Marcos, Texas, Mr. Rios died May 25, 2000, in Fairfield after a brief illness.

He served in the U.S. Army for 40 years and participated in the Pacific campaign during World War II and in Germany after the war. He worked in the U.S. Civil Service at Travis Air Force Base for 26 years until his retirement. He loved to travel and enjoyed the outdoors.

Mr. Rios is survived by his wife, Petra of Fairfield; daughters, Gloria Sanchez of Fairfield, Esmeralda of Fairfield, Rachel Noriega of Concord and Sylvia of Fairfield; son, Armando of Fairfield; sister, Ruth Casiano of Antioch; brother, Benjamin of Modesto; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Betty V. Allred

A funeral for Betty V. Allred, 75, of Napa was Tuesday at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church in Napa.

Mrs. Allred died on May 26, 2000, at her home in Napa after a long illness.

Born on April 24, 1925, in Aurora, Ill., she lived in Napa for the past four years, having returned to be closer to her daughter and many friends. She and her husband had lived in Grants Pass, Ore., since 1978 before returning to Napa. She was raised in Rockford, Ill., and met her husband, Gene, in Vallejo after World War II. They were married in 1946. In 1955 they built their own home and moved to Napa to raise their two children. She worked in food services for the Napa Valley Unified School District during the 1960s and '70s, spending many of those years at Ridgeview Junior High School, where the students were "her kids."

Mrs. Allred is survived by her husband, Gene; and daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Nick Neade of Vacaville. She was preceded in death by her son, James, in 1996.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Kaiser Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, 94589, or Hanna's Boys Center, P.O. Box 100, Sonoma, 95476.

Arrangements were handled by Claffey and Rota Funeral Home in Napa.

Larry Martinez

A private family service for Larry Martinez, 52, of Vacaville will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be private. There will be a memorial gathering of Mr. Martinez's friends at 1 p.m. Sunday at Pete DeGarcia Ranch on Mix Canyon Road off Pleasants Valley Road.

Mr. Martinez died on May 26, 2000, in Vacaville.

Born on March 19, 1948, in Fort Baker, he was a lifelong resident of Vacaville. He was a member of the Raider Fan Club and an animal lover.

Mr. Martinez is survived by his mother, Minnie Schooler of Vacaville; brothers, Al "Butch" of Rohnert Park, Joe and Jeff Schooler, both of Vacaville; sisters, Nancy, Sally Silva and Janie Schooler, all of Vacaville; and his life companion, Pam Womak of Vacaville.

Edgar 'Red' A. Veach

Memorial services for Edgar "Red" A. Veach, 61, of Vacaville will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Tulocay Chapel in Napa. Inurnment will be at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa.

Mr. Veach died on May 28, 2000, in VacaValley Hospital after a long illness.

Born on Nov. 6, 1938, in Magnum, Okla., he moved to the area six years ago. He worked for Lucky as a retail clerk for 20 years. He served in the Korean War during his Army career and enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Veach is survived by his son, David of Martinez; daughter, Tami Thompson of Bremerton, Wash.; sisters, Ella Mae Winningham of Corvallis, Ore., and Ruth Hughes of Magnum; brothers, Bill of Vacaville and Leslie of Magnum; and niece, Yvonne Morris of Napa. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and his parents. He also had four grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Mary Elizabeth Fussell

At her request, no services will be held for Mary Elizabeth Fussell, 80, of Vacaville.

Mrs. Fussell died on May 27, 2000, at Sunbridge La Mariposa Care and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on Nov. 12, 1919, in Annapolis, Md., she lived in Vacaville for the past 20 years after having lived in Walnut Creek for 26 years. She was a retired secretary and a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and dancing.

Mrs. Fussell is survived by her daughter, Barbara Travis of Martinez; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Laura of Vacaville; son, Patrick Lynch of Antioch; sister, Joan Mason of Maryland; brothers, Oliver Ward of South Carolina and Russell Ward of Sacramento. She also had 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society of Northern California.

Victor Lisec

A funeral with full military honors for Victor Lisec, 78, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Friday at Chapel One on Travis Air Force Base. Chaplain Arthur R. Homer will officiate. Interment will be at Rockville Cemetery in Suisun. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mr. Lisec died on May 28, 2000, at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base after a long illness.

Born on Jan. 29, 1922, in Chicago, he lived in Fairfield for the past 30 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Feb. 18, 1943, until retiring as a colonel on Oct. 1, 1973. During his time in the Air Force he was a navigator in the 8th Air Force in Thurleigh, England, and lead crew navigator in the 306th Bomb Group. He served in North Africa and Europe, remapping following the end of World War II, and was a foreign clearance officer, military transport pilot and duty controller in the transportation control center at Travis. He was chief of the Transport Control Center in the 1505 Support Squadron on Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan, and was commander and operations officer in the 28th Military Airlift Squadron on Hill Air Force Base in Utah. He was deputy group commander in the 65th military airlift on Yokota Air Base in Japan and was commander of the 8th Aerial Port Squadron on Tan San Nhut Air Base in Vietnam. He was assistant deputy chief for operation of the 22nd Air Force at Travis.

While in Vietnam, he established squadron support for the Santa Maria Orphanage in Saigon and Song Be, Vietnam. During his service time, he received numerous awards, including the Legion of Merit Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

After retirement, he received his real estate license and worked as a broker. He was a member of the Board of Relators in Solano County and retired from Country Estates in 1987. He was a founding member and treasurer for the North Bay Opera. His hobbies over the years included cooking, gardening, appaloosa horse breeding and playing with his grandchildren. He attended York Community High School and Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill. He also attended Solano College and received a degree.

Mr. Lisec is survived by his wife, Constance Lee of Fairfield; daughters, Vicki Sue of Dayton, Ohio, and Melissa Kay Militano of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lee Penn and Martin Pavloff of Seattle; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Wayne and Mary of Dayton, and William Curtis and Kendra Penn of Crockett; and grandchildren, Joshua and Jesse, both of Dayton, Claudia, Nic, Chelsea and Alexis Militano, all of Vacaville, and Aleksei Pavloff of Seattle.

Larry Martinez

Willis Palmore

A funeral for Willis Palmore, 75, of Suisun City will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Solano Valley Mortuary. The Rev. Joseph B. Davis will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Mr. Palmore died on May 30, 2000, at Sunbridge La Mariposa Care and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on Jan. 10, 1925, in Grapeland, Texas, he lived in Suisun City for the past four years. He worked as a laborer in San Francisco.

Mr. Palmore is survived by his daughters, Becky Carter of New Jersey, Martha King of San Francisco, Regina of Oakland, Edwina Figueras of Vallejo, Vanessa of Suisun City, and Gretta Tape of Visalia; son, Reginald Sr. of San Francisco; sister, Eileen Williams of San Francisco; and brother, Otis of San Francisco. He also had 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jessie Mae Newcomb

Graveside services for Jessie Mae Newcomb, 81, of Vacaville will be 1 p.m. today. Pastor Mike McCamie will officiate. Burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Newcomb died on May 31, 2000, at her home in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born on Aug. 2, 1918, in San Antonio, Texas, she moved to the area five years ago. She was a self-employed interior decorator for 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, decorating, sewing and music. She loved her family and grandchildren and participated in a host of volunteer work.

Mrs. Newcomb is survived by her daughter, Jeanett Ross of Vacaville; and grandchildren, Michael Fontaine, Terri Martin, Ronald Fontaine, David Hanner, Leslie Williams, Ronda Russ and Martin Russ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alf; daughter, Gerri Hanner; and son, Alfred Russ.

Dr. William L. Shakin

A memorial service for Dr. William L. Shakin, 69, of Suisun will be held at 1 p.m. June 9 at the San Francisco Columbarium. Inurnment will be at the columbarium. A memorial gathering for friends of Dr. Shakin from Vacaville and Fairfield will be held at a later date.

Dr. Shakin died on May 30, 2000, after a long illness.

Born on April 24, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Suisun for the past 28 years. He had a private practice in Vacaville for more than 20 years and practiced in Los Angeles prior to moving to Solano County.

Dr. Shakin is survived by his fiance, Terry Drolet of Suisun; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Oswald Burstein of Calabasas; son, Robert Nolan of Playa Del Rey; and mother, Sylvia Fogel of Vacaville. He also had four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Kidney Foundation, 553 Pilgram Drive, Foster City, 94404, or to the Diabetes Society of Solano County, 817 Missouri St., Fairfield, 94533.
