Dorothea 'Teddy' Merrifield

A graveside service for Dorothea 'Teddy' Merrifield, 91, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 15 at Unity Church of the Valley in Vacaville. The Rev. Vic Jenkins will officiate.

Mrs. Merrifield died on June 3, 2000, at her home in Vacaville.

Born on Jan. 22, 1909, in Taylor, Wash., she lived in Vacaville for the past three years. She grew up in Washington and Oregon and came to California, where she met her husband of 67 years, Gerald. She was a homemaker and avid volunteer all her life. She moved to Vacaville from Southern California in 1997 to live with her daughter.

She worked with a variety of charitable organizations and was a catalyst in shaping new programs to benefit children as she worked with parent-teacher organizations from elementary through college level boards and held offices. She was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls leader and continued her work with The American Association of Camp Fire Girls after her daughters were grown. She was instrumental in obtaining a site for a new junior college campus in Compton, her hometown in the 1950s. She continued her philanthropic work with the National Federation of Women's Clubs, earning many awards for her contributions. During her retirement years, she sewed lap robes for hospital patients and crafted items for sales benefiting charity.

Mrs. Merrifield is survived by her daughters, Linda Henderson of Hacienda Heights and Judy Jordan of Vacaville; grandchildren, Marcy Mackes, Mike Maxwell and Steve Maxwell, all of Vacaville, and Ellen Bonneau of Brea; great-grandchildren, Teri, Jason, Chris, Gerald and Thomas Maxwell and Mattie Mackes, all of Vacaville, and Ryan, Kristopher and Kylie Bonneau, all of Brea; and great-great-grandson, Tyler Maxwell of Vacaville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and grandson, Randy Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are being handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

William I. Morgan

A funeral for William I. Morgan, 77, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Friday at Nadeau Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Morgan died on June 5, 2000, at his home in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born on April 17, 1923, in McCoon, Miss., he lived in Vacaville for the past eight years. He worked as a carpenter for 22 years and was employed by Local No. 713 in Hayward.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Alma of Vacaville; and son, William I. Jr. of Vacaville. He also had three grandchildren.

James Moriel Jr

A funeral for James Moriel Jr., 67, of Winters will be 1 p.m. Friday at McCune Garden Chapel. Interment will follow at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCune Garden.

Born Oct. 4, 1932, in Vacaville, Mr. Moriel died June 6, 2000, in Sacramento after a brief illness.

He had been a teacher in the Morland School District and San Jose Unified School District. He was also an administrator in the San Jose school district. He was a rancher in Winters and Dixon for 31 years. He was the director of the Solano County Farm Bureau, former director of the Ulatis Resource Conservation District and an alumni of San Jose State University. He enjoyed golfing and farming.

Mr. Moriel is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bobbie of Winters; mother, Lola of Vacaville; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Joe Lopez of Vacaville; sister-in-law, Ada Dito of Vacaville and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 21-4477 Sacramento, 95821-0477 or the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Englewood, Colo., 80112-3747.

Frank L. Ottolini

A funeral for Frank L. Ottolini, 86, of Fairfield will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Sebastian Meyer will officiate. Entombment will be at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Ottolini died on June 6, 2000, in Fairfield after a long illness.

Born on Jan 2, 1914, in Vallejo, he lived in Fairfield for the past 40 years. He was the owner of Solano Garbage Co. from 1949 to 1979. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He was also past president of Sons of Italy and the Exchange Club.

Mr. Ottolini is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jim Vaughn of Fairfield; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Frank and Laura Vaughn of Modesto; great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Jordan Vaughn; and sister, Edith Lopez of Santa Rosa. He also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Lucy Mae Berndt

A private funeral will be held in July in Yakima, Wash., for Lucy Mae Berndt, 98, of Vacaville.

Born May 13, 1902, in Severance, Idaho, Mrs. Berndt died June 1, 2000, in Vacaville after a long illness.

Mrs. Berndt lived in Yakima until moving to California in 1984. She had been an active member of the First Church of Nazarene in Yakima, a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. As a young woman, she worked in the fruit orchards, cared for her family and home. After the death of her husband Walter in 1958 she worked as a housekeeper and in her 70's and 80's, she ran a day-care center for her church. She had been a resident of the Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center for five years.

Mrs. Berndt is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Harold Bay of Selah, Wash,; sister-in-law, Virginia McNealy of Medford, Ore.; son, Earl of Sun City, Ariz.; daughters, Dolores Beck of Santa Maria and Arleen Moon of Covina; grandchildren, Linda Hunt of Royal City, Wash., Jolene Shoemaker of Vacaville, Rhonda Yost of Columbus, Mont., Leslie Graves of Placerville, Sheri Hickman of Dixon, Laurie Sturgeon of Vacaville, Larry Moon of Ramona, Michael Moon of Covina; great-grandchildren, Teralyn Lobe of Hawaii, Kristina Hunt of Moses Lake, Wash., Lisa, Terry Jr. and Levi Hunt all of Royal City, Carrie Dodson of Vacaville, Amy Adamiak of Vacaville, Rebeccah and Kathryn Graves of Placerville, Stephanie, Erica and Christine Hickman of Dixon, Douglas and Ashley Sturgeon of Vacaville, Jessica Ctanzaro of Chula Vista, Brandy Keaveny of San Diego; and great-great grandson, Michael Allen Barnhill of Vacaville.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.

Emma Louise Jones

A funeral for Emma Louise Jones, 84, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Monday in Newman, Ga. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Park in Newman. A private family visitation will be held in Nadeau Family Funeral home on Friday afternoon.

Mrs. Jones died on June 6, 2000, in Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center in Vacaville after a long illness.

Born on Oct. 30, 1915, in Carroll County, Ga., she lived in Vacaville for the past 32 years. She was a homemaker all her adult life.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rosa Maureen and Ed VanDeHei of Vacaville and Donna and Barry Norris of Salem, Ore.; daughter, Marcia Kathleen of Vacaville; sister, Elgie Dee Bottoms of Newman; and grandchildren, Tracye L. Johnson of Vacaville, Scott A. Johnson of Fort Myers, Fla., Bryan and Deradee Norris of Phoenix and Bret and Charlotte Norris of Chicago. She also had two great-grandchildren.

Norma L. McKindsey

A Mass of Christian Burial for Norma L. McKindsey, 82, of Vallejo will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Dominic's Church in Benicia. Visitation will be 6 p.m. at Twin Chapels Mortuary in Vallejo, with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. McKindsey died on June 4, 2000, at her home with her family at her bedside. She was the last surviving child of Zita Alavolti Seghetti and Adolph Seghetti, who emigrated from Italy in 1900.

Born on June 8, 1917, in Toluca, Ill., she moved to Vallejo in 1919 and graduated from Vallejo High School in 1935. She worked at numerous retail establishments in downtown Vallejo until her retirement. She supported the war effort by working at Mare Island during that time. She was a 55-year member of St. Basil's Parish and a past member of the church choir. She was past president of the Parents Guild and a 60-year member of the YLI. She was also a charter member of St. Basil's Branch of the ICF.

Mrs. McKindsey is survived by her husband of 54 years, Leonard E.; children, Zita McKindsey-Smith, Buz, and Mary Joan Toch; and grandchildren, Aaron Jon and Lesley Toch.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School Scholarship Fund or St. Dominic's School.

Frank L. Ottolini

A funeral for Frank L. Ottolini, 86, of Fairfield will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Sebastian Meyer, O.Carm. will officiate. Born on April 28, 1924, in Stuart, Okla., she lived in Vacaville for the past two years, after having lived in Fairfield for 10 years. She worked as a waitress all her life. She loved the spirit of the Christmas season and always enjoyed elegantly decorating her home and opening it up for the viewing pleasure of her family and friends.

Ms. Smith is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Jayquetta of Vacaville; and daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Albert Tello of Bakersfield. She also had 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ar Worsham

A memorial service for Ar Worsham, 75, of Fairfield will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church. Pastor Lester Seto will officiate. Disposition will be private.

Mr. Worsham died on June 7, 2000, after a brief illness.

Born on Aug. 26, 1924, in Mountain Grove, Mo., he lived in Fairfield for the past 14 years. He was co-owner of Worsham Pump Co. for 20 years. He also worked for the California Department of Corrections for six years before retiring in 1980. He served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1963. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed square dancing, playing senior bocce ball and fishing.

Mr. Worsham is survived by his wife, Adeline; daughter, Ann of Martinez; son and daughter-in-law, Byran and Barbara of Vacaville; and sisters, Lela Butler of Arizona and Bonnie Massey and Lottie Brown, both of Oregon. He also had five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, 94010, or the American Diabetes Association, 1900 Powell St., Suite 285, Emeryville, 94608-1897.

Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society of Northern California.

Troy Allen Carter

At his request, no formal services will be held for Troy Allen Carter, 37, of Fairfield.

Mr. Carter died on June 7, 2000, at his home in Fairfield.

Born on Jan. 5, 1963, he lived in Fairfield for the past two months. He was a rock lover and worked as a lapidary. He was also an avid fisherman and crabber.

Mr. Carter is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mary and Frank Minnich of Oregon; foster parents, Sterling and Katherine Chandler of Susanville; brothers, James, Timmy and Kevin, all of Fairfield; half-brother, Cliff Dukes of Oregon; stepsister, Dawn McGinnis of Virginia; and caretakers, his aunt and uncle, Sharon and Oliver Engen of Fairfield. He also has numerous other loving family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W. Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533.

Louise Smith

Mr. Swails died on June 6, 2000, in Sacramento.

Born on June 18, 1924, in Elida, Ohio, he lived in Dixon for the past 38 years. He was a truck driver for Armour, Stoeven Brothers, Valley Live Stock, Joe Anderson and Mike Warner. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Dixon and the Dixon Boat Club. He enjoyed restoring cars and boating. He was a commercial fisherman and was in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army.

Mr. Swails is survived by his wife of 39 years, Edna of Dixon; daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and Dennis Stantorf of Chuglak, Alaska; Bonnie and Joe Molyneaux of Anchorage, Alaska; and Carla and Jeff Beers of Boise, Idaho; son, Jerry of Dixon; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Suzanna of Vacaville; and sisters, Kathy Ortiz of Hesperia, Colo., and Nita of Phoenix City, Ala. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two nieces.

Mrs. Duensing died on June 7, 2000, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo after a long illness.

Born on May 11, 1940, in Arosa, she lived in Fairfield for the past 25 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Native Daughters Westwind Parlor.

Mrs. Duensing is survived by her husband of 30 years, Tommy of Fairfield; a daughter, a stepdaughter, four sons, one stepson, her mother, two sisters and four brothers. She also had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
