Martha Sue 'Marty' Garlett

Services were held in Oklahoma for Martha Sue "Marty" Garlett, 64, who died April 24, 2000, in Oklahoma following a sudden illness.

Born May 1, 1936, in Oklahoma, she had lived there for many years. She was a former resident of Vacaville. Her family came to live here in 1970 when her husband was an officer stationed at Travis Air Force Base until 1981 when he retired.

While in Vacaville, Mrs. Garlett had worked as a teacher at Alamo Elementary School. She was also active at St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a past president of the women's club at the church.

She is survived by her husband, Joe F. of Oklahoma; daughters, Anita Bell and Margaret Hill, both of Oklahoma; and four grandchildren, all of Oklahoma.

Joe Garlett will be in the Vacaville area visiting friends in July.

Ernestina Aviles

A funeral for Ernestina Aviles, 79, of Sacramento will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Umberto Penunuri will officiate.

Interment will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Aviles died on June 8, 2000, in Sacramento after a short illness.

Born on May 3, 1921, in Usulutan, El Salvador, she lived in Sacramento for the past year. She worked as a secretary for six years for the government of El Salvador. She enjoyed sewing and other homemaking crafts. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories to her family.

Mrs. Aviles is survived by her husband, Rodolfo A. of Sacramento; daughters, Cecilia C. of Sacramento, Christina Lopez of Sacramento and Rhina Salzer of San Leandro; and sons and daughters-in-law, Ricardo E. and Maria Del Carmen Ruano of Fairfield, Roberto and Mirna of Fairfield and Jose and Ana of Oakland. She also had 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W. Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533.

Wes Simkins

At his request, no formal services will be held for Wes Simkins, 83, of Fairfield. Inurnment will be private.

Mr. Simkins died on June 8, 2000, at Sunbridge Care Center in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born on Jan. 27, 1917, in Knoxville, Tenn., he lived in Fairfield for the past 47 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1939 to 1965, working as a flight engineer before retiring.

Arrangements are being handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Pearl S. Miller

A funeral for Pearl S. Miller, 80, of Fairfield will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. The Rev. Stan Sanderson will officiate. Interment will be in Hoppins Cemetery in Bangor, Mich., next to her late husband, Thomas.

Born March 10, 1920, in Missouri, Mrs. Miller died June 10, 2000, in Fairfield after a short illness.

She lived in Fairfield for 24 years. She was involved in many different fund-raising projects. She was very active with Senior Manors.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Linda of Fairfield; daughter, Janie Lee Dowdy of Springfield, Ill.; sister, Peggy Leach of Leavenworth, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Doris May Dance

A funeral and burial for Doris May Dance, 77, of Vacaville, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ukiah Cemetery in Ukiah.

Born Sept. 23, 1922, in San Francisco, Mrs. Dance died June 7, 2000, in Vacaville.

She lived in Vacaville for 11 months. She was raised in the Redwood Valley and Calpella. She retired from the Bakery and Confectionery Union after 25 years of service. She loved dancing, animals and growing plants.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Bounds of Vacaville; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Wendy and Jason Deats of Valencia; and brother, Robert of Santa Rosa.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Hall on July 10, 1999, and her sister, Edith Kutulas on Nov. 18, 1978.

Pauline Virginia Garben

A memorial service for Pauline Virginia Garben, 80, of Fairfield will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. Pastor Ben Randall will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Garben died on June 12, 2000, in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born on Jan. 4, 1920, in Fountain Hill, Ark., she lived in Fairfield for the pat 53 years. She worked in San Francisco at Bank of American and the First National Bank in Fairfield from 1940 to 1947. She was a past member of the Wednesday Club and a member of the Green Valley Country Club.

Mrs. Garben is survived by her grandson, Nicholas of Green Valley; granddaughter, Jessica of Vacaville; daughter-in-law, Jan Potts of Vacaville; stepson, Arthur E. of Green Valley; stepdaughter, Betty Mason of Green Valley; sisters, Tralucia Gerhardt of Chico, Lois White of Fountain Hill and Quida Hewitt of South Carolina; and brothers, Randall Oliver of Missouri and Lonnie Leroy Oliver of McGehee, Ark. She also had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael, husband, Arthur and two brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1652 W. Texas St., Suite 110, Fairfield, 94533.

Pauline Lanzon

A vigil and prayer service for Pauline Lanzon, 86, of Vacaville will be 7:30 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel during a visitation that will start at 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. The Rev. Benedict DeLeon will officiate. Following the service, Mrs. Lanzon will be buried beside her husband in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Detroit.

Mrs. Lanzon died on June 11, 2000, in Vacaville.

Born on Jan. 26, 1914, in Sliema, Malta, she lived in Vacaville for the past 12 years. She was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed bingo at the Senior Center, ceramics, cooking and, most of all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lanzon is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Josie and Chuck Psaila of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, John and Jane of Southfield, Mich.; sisters, Rita Said and Helen Pardy, both of Michigan; grandchildren, Dennis and Kellie Psaila of Clovis, David and Linda Psaila of Vacaville, Daniel Psaila of Dixon, and John Jr., Jarred, Jenny and Jason of Southfield; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jonathon Psaila of Clovis, Marissa and Miranda Psaila of Vacaville, and Adison Psaila of Dixon.

Dorothea 'Teddy' Merrifield

A memorial service for Dorothea "Teddy" Merrifield, 91, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Unity Church of the Valley. The Rev. Vic Jenkins will officiate.

Mrs. Merrifield died on June 3, 2000, at her home in Vacaville.

Born on Jan. 22, 1909, in Taylor, Wash., she lived in Vacaville for the past three years. She grew up in Washington and Oregon and came to California, where she met her husband of 67 years, Gerald. She was a homemaker and avid volunteer all her life. She moved to Vacaville from Southern California in 1997 to live with her daughter.

She worked with a variety of charitable organizations and was a catalyst in shaping new programs to benefit children as she worked with parent-teacher organizations from elementary through college level boards and held offices. She was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls leader and continued her work with The American Association of Camp Fire Girls after her daughters were grown. She was instrumental in obtaining a site for a new junior college campus in Compton, her hometown in the 1950s. She continued her philanthropic work with the National Federation of Women's Clubs, earning many awards for her contributions. During her retirement years, she sewed lap robes for hospital patients and crafted items for sales benefiting charity.

Mrs. Merrifield is survived by her daughters, Linda Henderson of Hacienda Heights and Judy Jordan of Vacaville; grandchildren, Marcy Mackes, Mike Maxwell and Steve Maxwell, all of Vacaville, and Ellen Bonneau of Brea; great-grandchildren, Teri, Jason, Chris, Gerald and Thomas Maxwell and Mattie Mackes, all of Vacaville, and Ryan, Kristopher and Kylie Bonneau, all of Brea; and great-great-grandson, Tyler Maxwell of Vacaville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and grandson, Randy Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are being handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Evelyn Marie Quilantang

A funeral for Evelyn Marie Quilantang, 75, of Suisun will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Suisun. Pastor Chuck McKinney will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Quilantang died on June 6, 2000, at Sunbridge La Mariposa Care and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield after a brief illness.

Born on Jan. 30, 1925, in Langdon, N.D., she lived in Suisun for six months after having lived in San Francisco for 58 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, VFW supporter, Concerns of Police Survivors, Trea Senior Citizens League Notch, Victim Register, World War II Memorial Charter Member, Oral Roberts Ministries, Robert Schuller Ministries, Life Study Fellowship, North Shore Animal League and Billy Graham ministries.

Mrs. Quilantang is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Fred Bastian of Modesto and Linda and Jerry Swenson of Suisun; sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent and Theresa of Modesto, Michael and Patrice of Fairfield, and Thomas and Darlene of Concord; and sister, Doloris Loretta Roy of National City. She also had 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Yvonne of San Francisco.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church, 199 Marina Blvd., Suisun, 94585.

Pearl Mae Schlorf

A graveside service for Pearl Mae Schlorf, 95, of Vacaville will be held Thursday at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Pastor Lester Seto of Bethany Lutheran Church in Vacaville will preside.

The service will be preceded by a private visitation at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home, and interment will follow the graveside service.

Born on June 2, 1905, in Colon, Mich., the 37-year resident of Vacaville died at her home on June 13, 2000, after a long illness.

During her working years, Mrs. Schlorf was employed by the W.K. Kellogg Co. in Battle Creek, Mich., from 1930 to 1940, where she worked in the business office.

While residing in Vacaville, Mrs. Schlorf volunteered her time for 20 years with NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital.

Mrs. Schlorf is survived by her son, Robert L. Schlorf, of Vacaville, and her niece, Louise Lepleyof, of Los Angeles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, in 1972.

Gladys Regina Westbrook

Private services will be held for Gladys Regina Westbrook, 56, of Orland. Burial will be at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. A celebration of life reception will be 1 p.m. Saturday at 331 W. Chestnut in Dixon.

Mrs. Westbrook died on June 11, 2000, at her home in Orland.

Born on Jan. 2, 1944, in St. Paul, Minn., she taught in the Dixon Unified School District for 15 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to all. She was also a lifetime gardener.

Mrs. Westbrook is survived by her husband, Ron of Orland; son, Chad of Cameron Park; daughters, Lynn Busloff of Honolulu, Katherine Imburgio of Vacaville, Karma Ferguson of Dixon, Jacqueline Epperson of Dayton, Ore.; sister, Elaine Carpenter of Granite Bay; brother, Charles Juliusson of North Highlands. She also had four grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary of Orland.

Mary Jane Wilbur

Visitation for Mary Jane Wilbur, 83, of Farfield, will be 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Born April 3, 1917, in Rocko City, Iowa, Mrs. Wilbur died June 9, 2000, in Fairfield after a long illness.

She lived in Fairfield for 40 years.

Mrs. Wilbur was a military wife for 40 years and lived throughout the world.

She flew as a pilot during World War II. After the war, she worked as a civil service employee at Kelly Air Force Base in Texas. But she considered being a wife and mother her most important employment.

She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College.

Her hobbies included antiques, gardening, history research and linguistics. She spoke five languages.

She served on the Episcopal Altar Guild at Travis Air Force Base for 12 years.

She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ashley Chapter of Iowa. And she was a team mother at Vanden High School and a supporter of team sports. She also was a member of the University of Iowa Book Research Club.

She is survived by her husband, Ned F. Wilbur of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Nedla and Randy Powers of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Laura Wilbur of Fort Benning, Ga.; brothers, Kent John of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Carl Johnson of Fairfield; grandchildren, Todd and Thomas Ewen of Fairfield, and Wyatt and Wendy and Cody Wilbur of Fort Benning; and five great-grandchildren, all of Fairfield.
