Max Hans Bergener

Funeral services for Max Hans Bergener, 79, of Vacaville, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at McCune Garden Chapel. Interment will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Bergener died July 31, 2000 in Vacaville.

Born May 3, 1921 in Logan, Utah, he resided in Vacaville for 38 years. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service. He was proud to be a member of the 401st Bombardment Group. He received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while serving as Radio Operator of a B-17 airplane on a number of combat bombardment missions. He also achieved a second retirement from American Home Foods in Vacaville. He was devoted to his wife and family and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Bergener is survived by his sons and daughters-in-laws, Don and Karen of Vacaville, Randy and Cindy of Georgia; his daughters and sons-in-laws, Jackie and David Mungle of Texas, Eileen and Pat Foley of Colorado; daughters, Rayeann McDowell and Carolyn, both of Vacaville. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Armeda.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCune Garden Chapel.

Concetta Softa Gmiter

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated for Concetta Softa Gmiter, 81, of Vacaville, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The Rev. William Feeser will officiate. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Gmiter died July 30, 2000, in Windsor House Convalescent Hospital after a long illness.

Born June 9, 1919 in Juniataville, Pa., she lived in Vacaville for the past 26 years. She had been head of housekeeping for five years at the Brigadoon Lodge in Vacaville. She was a member of the Vacaville Moose Lodge No. 1967.

Mrs. Gmiter is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Norma Softa of Vacaville; sisters, Frances Softa of Pennsylvania, Paula Gasper of Pennsylvania, Rose King of California, Lucy Bemke and Gloria Holman both of Michigan; brothers, Albert and Frank Softa, both of Pennsylvania and Bernard Soft of Pennyslvania; grandchildren, Mary Jane and Juan Gonzalez of Vacaville, Thomas J. Softa, Jr. of Vacaville and Michael and Patty Softa of Costa Mesa; great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Chris Gonzalez of Vacaville, Michael and Phillip Softa of Costa Mesa.

Friends may call for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of the Greater Sacramento Area, 4000 El Camino Ave., Sacramento.

Helen Rose Kase

A memorial service for Helen Rose Kase, 81, of Vacaville will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

The Rev. Ed Miller will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Kase died July 30, 2000 in La Mariposa Health Care in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born May 30, 1919 in Hayward, she moved to the area 40 years ago. She worked as a Nursing Assistant at Vallejo General Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 1498, Vacaville.

Mrs. Kase is survived by her sons, Gary of Vacaville and Samuel of Spokane, Wash.; daughter, Judy of Ontario; sister, Fran Nelson of Paso Robles; brother, Robert Lunch of San Simeon; grandchildren, Holly Schuman of Logan, Utah, Melissa Elliott of Vacaville, Shannon of Vacaville, Gary II of Vacaville and Sherri Bonstedt of St. Peters, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Brianna Wilson of Logan, Utah and Macie Elliott of Vacaville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinsons Disease.

Virginia M. Russell

Funeral services for Virginia M. Russell, 95 of Suisun, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

The Rev. Sam Hensley will officiate. Interment will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Russell died July 31, 2000 in Suisun after a long illness.

Born Feb. 3, 1905 in Warner, Okla., she lived in Suisun for 70 years. She was a homemaker for 76 years. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church in Fairfield. She enjoyed all the changes in Old Town Suisun, her greatest joys were always her home where she loved to garden and crochet. She especially enjoyed her family.

Mrs. Russell is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and John Bayona of Vacaville; sister-in-law, Pauline Helmick of Fairfield; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her devoted best friend and caregiver, Mary McMillan. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry and a son, Jack.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Bay Hospice, 1200 B. Gale Wilson Blvd., Fairfield.

Kiyoko Ichinose Townsend

A memorial service for Kiyoko Ichinose Townsend, 66, of Vacaville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

The Rev. Cho'on Shiba of Seiganzan Myoshinji Temple will officate. Interment will be private in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mrs. Townsend died July 31, 2000 in Vaca Valley Hospital after a sudden illness.

Born Jan. 23, 1934 in Quechu, Japan, she moved to the area 28 years ago. She was a homemaker for 28 years. She was a member of the Seiganzan Myoshinji Temple.

Mrs. Townsend is survived by her daughter, Tamiko of Vacaville; son, Tatsuo of Vacaville; grandchildren, Jason and Jessica, both of Vacaville. She was preceded in death by her husband Ron in 1988.

Arrangements were handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Grace B. Pignataro

Funeral services for Grace B. Pignataro, 71, of Vacaville will be at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Winters. Burial will follow at Winters Cemetery.

Born Nov. 5, 1928, in San Francisco, Mrs. Pignataro died July 30, 2000, in Vacaville.

Raised in San Francisco, Mrs. Pignataro attended Everett Junior High School and Mission High School. In 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Frank Pignataro in San Francisco.

In 1953, the couple moved to Belmont where they lived until 1984, when they moved to Winters. While living in Belmont, she raised three children and was very involved in local youth athletic programs. She did everything from running the concession stands to raising funds to local events. She always had friends around and was like a mother to the neighborhood children.

In 1989, she moved to Vacaville when her multiple sclerosis became debilitating and she needed professional care.

Mrs. Pignataro is survived by her mother, Beatrice Pacheco of San Jose; sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Sue Pignataro of Hudson, Ill., Dan and Jackie Pignataro of Santa Rosa, Tony and Brenda Pignataro of Vacaville; brother, Bill Pacheco of San Jose; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1987, and her father, Ralph Pacheco.

A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions can be made to any local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.

Thomas James Napier

A funeral for Thomas James Napier, 87, of Vacaville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Christian Church of Vacaville.

The Rev. Su Schlagel will officiate, along with the members of the Suisun Lodge #55, F&AM, they will conduct a Masonic service. Interment with full military honors, will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Napier died July 31, 2000, in his home after a brief illness.

Born April 20, 1913, in Centralia, Ill., he lived in Vacaville for 35 years. He served in the United States Army from 1938 to 1968. He retired in December of 1968 as a chief warrant officer 4. He was a member of the Benicia Lodge #5, F&AM, Oakland Scottish Rite Bodies, Ben Ali Shrine Temple, Montezuma Shrine Club, Ben Ali Shrine Legion of Honor and life member of the Retired Officers Association.

Mr. Napier is survived by his wife of 58 years, La Vina R. of Vacaville; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Gary Frankenhauser of Reno; granddaughters, Rachel and Joanna Frankenhauser, both of Reno; grandson, Micah of Vacaville.

The family request no flowers. Contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, 95817.

Arrangements were handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Helen B. Young

A Catholic Prayer service for Helen B. Young, 87, of Vacaville, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Valley Evangelical Free Church.

Dr. Raleigh Galgan will preside. Inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Young died July 27, 2000, in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born Dec. 25, 1912, in Clear Lake, S.D., she resided in Vacaville for 10 years. She was a piano instructor for 59 years. She was still teaching up until several weeks ago. She was a member of Valley Evangelical Free Church in Vacaville. She enjoyed concerts, ballet, and national league football and major league baseball. She also played the organ at various churches during her lifetime.

Mrs. Young is survived by her son, Arnold of Fairfield; sister, Mariam Solem of Healdsburg; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Francie Force of Pomona; granddaughter, Katherine Young of Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Carl.

Arrangements were handled by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Laurence J. "Larry" Hawley

A funeral for Laurence J. "Larry" Hawley, 64, of Winters, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with military honors, in the Colonial Chapel. Cremation will be private at a later date.

Mr. Hawley died Aug. 1, 2000, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center.

Born Dec. 28, 1935, in Phoenix, Ariz., he resided in Winters. He lived his early years in the Phoenix area and his high school years in Kerman and Tranquility. He entered the U.S. Air Force after high school resulting in a 8 year enlistment. He was general manager for Truck-A-Way Company for many years and also a truck driver for Lange Trucking in Oakland. He was a member of the Teamsters. He was a prior resident of Vacaville.

Mr. Hawley is survived by his wife, Carol, of Winters; his children, Robert Andrew of Florida, Tina Crow of American Canyon and Diana Runnells of Gustine; brothers, George of Fresno, Manuel of Vista, David of Joshua Tree, George Brown of Vacaville and Eldon Brown of Turlock; grandchildren, Amber Gonzales, Joey Keola, Christopher Crow, Matthew, Kristina Keola, Drew and Lindsey; great-grandson, Siah Keole; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends are welcome for visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight in Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.

Arrangements were handled by Davis Funeral Chapel.
