Isabelle Dominique Assaad

Isabelle Dominique Assaad, 17, of Salinas, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara after a brief illness.
She was born in Monterey and was a lifelong resident of Monterey County. She enjoyed music and the outdoors.

Survivors: Father and mother, John A. and Konstanze Assaad of Salinas; twin brother, Alexander Tarek Assaad of Salinas; brothers, Ziad Matthew Assaad and Zachary John Assaad, both of Salinas; grandparents, Ben and Barbara Ryburn of Salinas; and grandmother, Isabelle Assaad of Lebanon.

Services: Memorial services 2 p.m. today, Sept. 25, at Echoes From Calvary Pentecostal Church, 1025 Post Drive, Salinas.

Placement of ashes: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: YMCA Relief Fund, 371 Main St., Salinas 93901.

Arrangements: Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Kenneth W. Boyd

Kenneth W. Boyd, 69, of Seaside, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after a brief illness.
He was born and raised in San Francisco and lived in Monterey County for 30 years. He was a former office manager with Millers Moving and Storage for 25 years.

Survivors: Friend, Michael Bloom of Carmel.

Services: No services planned.

Placement of ashes: Ashes scattered at sea.

Arrangements: Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Josefina C. Reyes

Josefina C. Reyes, 67, of Salinas, died of natural causes Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at her home.
She was born in Jalisco, Mexico, and was a packer with Dole for five years. She loved her farm life, her church, travel to Mexico and most of all her family.

Memberships: Christ the King Parish, and an advocate for the United Farm Workers.

Survivors: Son, Oscar Cisneros of Prunedale; daughter-in-law, Lisa Cisneros of Prunedale; brothers, Lupe Reyes, Bartomiano Reyes, Miguel Reyes, Abundio Reyes, Antonio Reyes, Pancho Reyes, Modesto Reyes and Jesus Reyes, all of Mexico; sisters, Tirbucia Reyes of Fresno, and Maria Reyes, Amada Reyes and Alicia Reyes, all of Mexico; grandchildren, Joseph Cisneros and Samatha Cisneros, both of Prunedale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 25, at Whitehurst Muller Funeral Service, East Alisal and Pajaro streets, Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. today, Sept. 25, at the mortuary.

Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Christ the King Church, 240 Calle Cebu, Salinas.

Burial: At a later date.

Briget Lowe

Briget Lowe, 92, of Salinas, died of cardiovascular disease Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Sunridge Rehab and Care Center.
She was born in Roscommon, Ireland.

She was a retired bookkeeper with The May Co. in Southern California, where she worked for 20 years.

Survivors: Nephew, the Rev. John Byrne of Ireland; and other nieces and nephews in Ireland.

Services: Memorial services will be Monday, Oct. 8, at Madonna Manor Chapel, 1335 Byron Drive, Salinas.

Burial: Prospect Cemetery, Glasnevin, Ireland.

Memorials: Madonna Manor, 1335 Byron Drive, Salinas 93901.

Arrangements: Whitehurst Muller Funeral Service, East Alisal and Pajaro streets, Salinas.

Clara Ang

SALINAS

Clara Ang, 49, of Salinas, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at her home following a brief illness.
She was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and lived in Salinas for eight years. She was a registered nurse for Salinas Valley Dialysis Services and had been in the nursing profession since 1974. She also was a Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church for six years. She did her best to see the children enjoyed themselves every Sunday. She loved her work tremendously and was greatly appreciated by those she served. She loved to travel and enjoyed eating good and delicious foods.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Soo Lian Tan.

Survivors: Husband of 28 years, Sunny Ang of Salinas; daughter, Celina Ang of London Ontario, Canada; father, B.P. Tan of Singapore; brothers, Shaw Peng Tan of Malaysia, Sam Tan of New Zealand, Richard Tan of Malaysia; and sisters, Leng Wah of Taiwan and Deng Deng of Malaysia.

Services: Memorial services will be at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

James Alden Mead Sr.

MONTEREY

James Alden Mead, Sr., 76, of Monterey, died of natural causes, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula.
He was born in Baroda, Mich., and had lived on the Monterey Peninsula when he was a child 60 years ago. He was the owner of Mead's Market in Monterey and E-Z Rider Campers in Marina and Prunedale. He retired in 1980 and he and his wife traveled extensively, with Italy being his favorite destination.

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters.

Military: After graduation from Monterey High School in 1942, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy and Japan.

Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Barbara of Salinas; sons, James Mead Jr. of Monterey and John Mead of Massachusetts; daughters, Judy Stanley of New Hampshire and Julie Crawford of Salinas; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services: Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, at Mission Mortuary in Monterey.

Inurnment: Will be held privately at a later date.

Roberta A. Rathbun

SALINAS
Roberta A. Rathbun, 74, of Salinas, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at the Hospice House following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Eustis, Neb., and had lived in Salinas for 53 years. She was an elementary school teacher in Nebraska before her retirement

Memberships: Northminster Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. and Salinas Golf and Country Club.

Survivors: Husband of 53 years, Richard Rathbun of Salinas; son Hugh (Susan) Rathbun of Fresno; daughter, Cindy Lumsden of Salinas; brothers, Gerald Stoddard of Lodi, Orville Stoddard of Denver, Colo., Jay Stoddard of Grand Island, Neb., and Paul Stoddard of Denver, Colo.; grandsons, Michael and Christopher Rathbun of Fresno, Bruce Lumsden of Salinas; and granddaughter, Julie Lumsden of Salinas.

Services: A private memorial service will be held under the arrangements of Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Inurnment: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Anita Torres

Anita Torres of Salinas died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Durango, Mexico, and lived in Salinas for most of her life. She was a retired registered nurse with Visiting Nurse Association.

Survivors: Husband, Eustolio Torres of Salinas; daughters, Helen Otero and Gloria Davila, both of Salinas; sons, Henry Moreno of El Centro and Richard Valdez of Paso Robles; sisters, Maria Lavarez, Carmen Aparicio and Asencion Nieblas, all of San Jose; brothers, Jose Rojas of Sacramento and Philip Rojas of El Centro; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 22, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. today, Oct. 22, at the mortuary chapel.

Chapel blessing: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the mortuary chapel.

Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Richard Lee Young

Richard Lee Young, 67, of Salinas, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, with his family at his side.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1934, to Thelma and Chester Young. He graduated from Salinas High School in 1952. He worked for Spreckels Sugar Co. for 17 years, for Handyman Hardware in Salinas for five years, and also worked at Orchard Supply Hardware in Salinas. Before retirement, he assisted in the closure of Fort Ord.

Military: U.S. Navy.

Survivors: Wife of 52 years, Patricia; family, Richard L. Young Jr., Geri Tenny, Christa McArthur, Nischa Young; four stepdaughters, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services: Private family services have been held.

Memorials: May be sent to the Leukemia Foundation or the Katherine Convalescent Hospital Physical Therapy Department in Salinas.

Roberta A. Rathbun

Roberta A. Rathbun, 74, of Salinas, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at the Hospice House following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Eustis, Neb., and lived in Salinas for 53 years.

Oliver Ray Sadler

Oliver Ray Sadler, 91, of Santa Cruz, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Nelson, Mo.
He was born in Carny, Okla., and was a longtime Santa Cruz resident. He was a retired machinist and welder for Lonestar Industries in Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edna M. Sadler, in 1996, daughters, June Wilson and Mary Jo Pemberton, five brothers and three sisters.

Memberships: International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and Pentecostal Church.

Survivors: Sons, William (Cathy) Sadler of San Jose, Donald (Carol) Sadler of Nelson and Richard (Cynthia) Sadler of Aptos; daughters, Carol (Michael) Odom of Wynne, Ark., Joan (Dale) Jackson of Santa Cruz, Patricia Sillix of Sacramento, Carolyn (John) Adams and Dolores (Jerry) Combs, both of Prunedale, and Frances (J.B.) Marsh of Marshall, Mo.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz.

Services: 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the mortuary chapel.

Burial: Graveside committal services following at Santa Cruz Memorial Park.
