James Alden Mead Sr.

James Alden Mead Sr., 76, of Monterey, died of natural causes, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula.
He was born in Baroda, Mich., and lived on the Monterey Peninsula since he was a child. He was the owner of Mead's Market in Monterey and E-Z Rider Campers in Marina and Prunedale. He retired in 1980 and he and his wife traveled extensively, with Italy being his favorite destination.

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters.

Military: After graduation from Monterey High School in 1942, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy and Japan.

Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Barbara Mead; sons, James Mead Jr. of Monterey and John Mead of Massachusetts; daughters, Judy Stanley of New Hampshire and Julie Crawford of Salinas; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Services: Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., today, Oct. 22, at Mission Mortuary in Monterey.

Inurnment: Will be held privately at a later date.

Joseph G. Arredondo

SALINAS

Joseph G. Arredondo, 94, of Salinas, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Monterey Pines Skilled Nursing Facility following a brief illness.
He was born in Del Rio, Texas, and lived in Salinas and Spreckels for 66 years. He was retired from Spreckels Sugar Co. He enjoyed playing cards and was known around town as "Spreckels Joe."

Survivors: Daughter, Carol Wolovsky of Carmel; brother, Jim Arredondo of Carmel; grandchildren Sarah Wolovsky of Fresno, Aaron Wolovsky, Carrie Arredondo and Chad Arredondo, all of Carmel; and Christie Valdetierra of Salinas.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: May be sent to Carmel Foundation, P.O. Box 1050, Carmel 93921.

Alice E. Beck

SALINAS

Alice E. Beck, 77, of Salinas, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Egeland, N.D., and lived in Salinas for 55 years. She was a retired bookkeeper for Paul T. Beck Contractors Inc. She enjoyed working with crafts, decorating cakes and working at her church.

Memberships: North Salinas Baptist Church.

Survivors: Husband of 55 years, Paul T. Beck of Salinas; sons, David Beck, Daniel Beck and Kenneth Beck, all of Salinas; sisters, Joyce E. Jordan of Bakersfield, Fern D. Garwick of Medford, Ore., and Beatrice M. Pool of Vancouver, Wash.; brothers, E. Loyd Rasmussen of Apache Junction, Ariz., and David E. Rasmussen of Medford; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: Visitation from 1 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 23, and 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the mortuary chapel.

Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 786 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: May be made to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Salinas, 957A Blanco Circle, Salinas 93901, or to the donor's favorite charity.

John I. Braddock

SALINAS

John I. Braddock, 79, of Salinas, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Skyline Convalescent Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Naturita, Colo., and lived in Salinas for 37 years. He was a retired principal and teacher in Salinas. He worked as activities director at North Salinas High School, dean of boys at Salinas High School and retired as principal from Alisal High School.

Military: U.S. Army during World War II.

Memberships: Twenty-year member of American Legion Post-31.

Survivors: Wife of 56 years, Donna Bernice Braddock of Kentucky; daughter, Tracey Lee Ryan of Kentucky; sons, John Ireland Braddock and David H. Braddock, both of Salinas, and Troy Braddock of Hollister; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Inurnment: San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella.

Jane Blair Nash

KING CITY

Jane Blair Nash, 75, of King City, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Stanford Medical Center.
She was born in New Jersey and lived in Monterey County for 44 years. She worked as a substitute teacher, a lab tech at Basic Vegetable Products and as a ward clerk at Mee Memorial Hospital for 23 years. She also served as a hospital volunteer. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and traveling.

Memberships: Co-founder of Sherry Club and Friends of the Library.

Survivors: Christopher Ikeda-Nash, Patricia Ikeda-Nash, Joshua Ikeda-Nash, Zachariah Sebastian, Sarah Nash, Mike Barbee, May Blair Barbee, James Barbee, Katie and J.J. Burnes, and Matt, Henry and Lori Burnes; Steve and Dusty Nash and Kelli, Niki and Jose Nash; Thomas Nash, Huang Hueihwa and Daniel Nash.

Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Mark's Guild Hall, King City.

Samuel P. Torres

SALINAS

Samuel P. Torres, 92, of Salinas, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital following an illness.
He was born in Cinaparo, Michoacan, Mexico, and lived in Salinas for 31 years. He was a field laborer for Salinas Marketing COOP. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Torres, in 1996, and by a son, Dionisio Torres, in 1977.

Memberships: United Farm Workers Union AFL-CIO in Salinas.

Survivors: Daughters, Anatolia Torres of Mexico, Eleanor Cortez of Wyoming, Aurora Romero of Hayward, Bertha Pacheco of Missouri and Zenaida Orozco and Clementina Torres, both of Salinas; son, Abel Torres of Salinas; sister, Imelda Torres of Mexico; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Rosary: 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the mortuary chapel.

Services: Final visitation rites at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, followed by funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 240 Calle Cebu, Salinas.

Fay Godsey

SALINAS

Fay Godsey, 84, of Salinas, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Humphrey, Ark., and lived in Salinas for 51 years. She worked at Stewart's Houseware and Gifts for several years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family.

Memberships: Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors: Husband of 64 years, Elmer Godsey of Salinas; daughters, Josita (Gerald) and Brenda Godsey, both of Salinas; granddaughter, Christy (Scott) Porter Humpert of Carmichael; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth C. Humpert of Carmichael.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 23, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

William C. 'Bill' Leonard

SALINAS

William C. "Bill" Leonard, 89, of Salinas, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Birdseye, Ind., and lived in Salinas for 72 years. He retired from Lacey Auto Parts in Salinas, where he worked for 61 years.

He was a former Scout leader who enjoying fishing, hunting and cutting wood.

Memberships: First Presbyterian Church, Salinas Elks Lodge 614 for 54 years, former member of SIRS and the Active Seniors.

Survivors: Wife of 67 years, Marjorie Leonard; son, Dean (Judy) Leonard of Salinas; grandson, Bryant Leonard of Salinas; granddaughter, Courtney Leonard of Salinas; and nieces and nephews in Birdseye.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Struve and Laporte Mortuary, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the mortuary chapel.

David Justin Marsiguerra

David Justin Marsiguerra, 21, died of a gun shot wound, Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, on Cooper Road.
He was born Dec. 14, 1979, in Carmel, and was a lifelong resident of Monterey. He was a 1998 graduate of Pacific Grove Adult School. He was proud of his Sicilian heritage and was the great-grandson of Pietro Ferrante, a pioneer of the Monterey sardine industry.

Survivors: Parents, Joe and RoseMarie Marsiguerra of Monterey; brothers, Chris Marsiguerra of Monterey and Peter Marsiguerra of Salinas; his niece; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Stacie R. Sullenger, 20, of Coarsegold, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 15, 1981, in Salinas and was a lifelong resident of Salinas before moving to Coarsegold one month ago. She was a student and worked at the Prunedale Exxon Service Station last summer. She loved animals and enjoyed spending time with her friends.

Memberships: California Gymkana Association.

Survivors: Mother and stepfather, Connie and Burton Bessinger III of Coarsegold; father, Steve Sullenger of Prunedale; Sister, Kellie Sullenger of Prunedale; brother, Burton Bessinger IV of Coarsegold; grandparents, Joanne Walker of Prunedale, Geraldine and Burton Bessinger and Doris Blakenship, all of Salinas, and Levi Sullenger of Bakersfield; great-grandmother, Ruth Johnson of Prunedale; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Thelma J. Ferguson, 82, of Marina, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at her home following an illness.
She was born July 9, 1919, in Oklahoma, was formerly of San Diego and recently moved to Salinas. She was a homemaker.

Survivors: Daughters, Pamela Castell of Oceola, Mo., and Jacqueline Jeans of Pittsburg; son, Frederick Ferguson of Marina; sister, Imogene Leporitz of San Diego; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
