Dean A. Barratt

Dean A. Barratt, 70, of Castroville, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at his home following a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Butte, Mont., and lived in Monterey County for 28 years. He was retired from the Navy and served in Civil Service for eight years at Fort Ord.

Military service: Retired U.S. Navy following 20 years of services, serving in the Korean War and Vietnam War.

Memberships: Swiss Rifle Club and American Legion Post 593.

Survivors: Sister, Mary Nihart of Huntington Beach; and nieces and nephews.

Burial: Private at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella.

Arrangements: Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Guadalupe R. Montes

Guadalupe R. Montes, 86, of Gonzales, died of natural causes Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at her home.
She was born April 15, 1915, in Buckeye, Ariz., and lived in Gonzales for 42 years. She was a homemaker.

Her father, mother and two brothers preceded her in death.

Survivors: Sons, Mike Saltier of Iowa, Tony Saltier of Guadalupe, Ernest Saltier of Gonzales and Paul Saltier of San Jose; daughters, Raquel Saltier of San Diego, Helen Carrasco of Salinas and Irene Corona of Union City; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside services 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Gonzales cemetery.

Arrangements: Whitehurst Terry Funeral Service, 395 East St., Soledad.

John A. Larez

SALINAS

John A. Larez, 83, of Salinas, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1917 in Caborca, Sonora, Mexico, was a raker with Granite Construction for 30 years. He loved to go to Reno and Laughlin, Nev., and enjoyed barbecuing, camping and spending time with his family.

Memberships: Local Union 297 and Sacred Heart Church.

Survivors: Wife of 65 years, Juanita BeBe Larez of Salinas; son, John A. Larez Jr. of San Jose; daughters, Connie Garcia, Concepcion Saravia and Maria Larez, all of Salinas, and Ramona Luna of Los Banos; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Whitehurst Muller Funeral Service, East Alisal and Pajaro streets, Salinas.

Rosary: 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the mortuary chapel.

Mass: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas.

Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: Hospice of the Central Coast, P.O. Box 2750, Monterey 93940.

Edna L. Barton

Edna L. Barton, 87, of Salinas, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at SunRidge Convalescent Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Bethel, Vt., and lived in Salinas for 56 years. She was a retired supervisor with Sherwood Laundry and was a volunteer with American Red Cross.

Memberships: Salinas Moose Lodge, American Business Women, 8/40 Loma Prieta No. 435, Prunedale American Legion Auxiliary No. 593 and Central Coast Charter Chapter.

Survivors: Sons, Jack Barton of Sonora; James Barton of Clipper Mills and Bill Barton of Paso Robles; daughters, Jackie Nelson of Prunedale and Linda Lenoir of Hollister; two brothers; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Services: Memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Prunedale American Legion No. 593, 8300 Prunedale North Road, Prunedale.

Burial of ashes: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: American Red Cross.

Mae Koenig

Mae Koenig, 92, of Salinas, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at her home following a brief illness.
She was born in Forrest City, Ariz., and lived in Salinas for 60 years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin W. Koenig, and daughter, Louise Morris.

Memberships: Valley Baptist Church in Salinas.

Survivors: Daughter, Willine Read of Salinas; son, Melvin Milton of San Jose; sister, Lena Payne of Salinas; brother, Forrest Baskins of Forrest City; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. today, Nov. 12, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Services: Cryptside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Garden of Memories Memorial Park Masoleum Chapel, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Entombment: Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Christine C. Henry

Christine C. Henry, 89, of Salinas, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Salinas Rehab after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Nocona, Texas, and lived in Salinas for four years. She was a homemaker. She attended First Baptist Church of Prunedale. She was a former resident of Turlock and a former 20-year resident of Burney. Her hobbies included ceramic painting, oil painting, quilting and crafts.

Survivors: Daughter, Marsha (John) Gubser of Salinas; grandsons, Matthew Gubser of San Francisco, and Josua Gubser, Philip Gubser and Zachary Gubser, all of Salinas; granddaughter, Christiane Gubser of Salinas; and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation: From 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, at the mortuary chapel.

Burial: Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: Central Coast Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, P.O. Box 2480, Monterey 93942; American Cancer Society, 1184 Monroe St. Suite 1, Salinas; or donor's favorite charity.

Opal Moore

Opal Moore, 95, of Salinas, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Skyline Skilled Nursing Facility after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Oklahoma and lived in Salinas for many years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors: No known survivors.

Services: No services planned.

Cremation: Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Placement of ashes: Ashes scattered at sea.

Flossie Mae Stafford

Flossie Mae Stafford, 94, of Seaside, died of natural causes Monday, May 14, 2001, at Hospice House in Monterey.
She was born in Gusseta, Ga. She was a practical nurse with St. Francis Catholic Hospital for 15 years.

Survivors: Daughter, Osie Hunter of Seaside; stepdaughter, Ewoodie Stafford of Upper Marlboro, Md.; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: From 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Chapel of Seaside, 1610 Noche Buena St., Seaside.

Services: Will be held in Georgia.

Domingo Sanchez Sr.

Domingo Sanchez, Sr., 58, of Las Lomas, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at his residence after a long illness.
He was born in New Mexico and lived in Las Lomas for 40 years. He was a construction laborer for many years before retiring because of his health. He attended the Valley Catholic Church. His son, Daniel Sanchez, preceded him in death.

Survivors: Domestic partner, Maria Sanchez of Watsonville; sons, Domingo Jr. of San Jose, Faran of Watsonville, Gary of Hollister and Gilbert of Watsonville; brothers, Magdaleno, Lorenzo, Joseph, Steven, Romaldo, Marcelino and David Sanchez; sisters, Trini Diaz, Mary Alvarez, Blondina Sanchez, Lydia Rocha, Beatriz Sanchez, Susanna Sanchez, Patricia Sanchez and Fausta Fuentes; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation: Noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Mehl's Colonial Chapel.

Rosary: 7 p.m., Thursday, at the Valley Catholic Church.

Mass: 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24, at the Valley Catholic Church.

Burial: Valley Public Cemetery.

Maureen D. Bunch

Maureen D. Bunch, 62, of Monterey, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Oakland and lived in Monterey for 25 years. She was a school teacher for the Pacific Grove School District.

Survivors: Daughters, Erin Bunch Phillips of Concord and Monica Lauren Bunch of Hollywood; brothers, Michael Donovan of Bishop and Sean Donovan of Palm Springs; and two grandsons, Timothy Phillips and Nicholas Phillips of Concord.

Services: None planned at her request.

Cremation: Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.

Lillian Mae Nason

Lillian Mae Nason, 91, of Craig, Colo., died of natural causes Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, in Craig.
She was born in Elk Point, S.D., lived in Monterey County for 73 years and in Los Banos for the past eight years. She was a homemaker. In the 1920s she attended the Corral de Tierra one-room Washington Union Grammar School. She married Fred Watson Nason Sr. and lived at the family ranch in Cachagua before moving to Salinas in 1966. She assisted her husband on the ranch and in the late 1950s and 1960s worked part-time in Salinas packing sheds. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Watson Nason Sr., in 1953, daughter, Rose Nason Glasenapp, in 1998, and grandson, Fred Nason III, in 1993.

Memberships: Catholic Church.

Survivors: Daughters, Freda Nason Sheppard of Los Banos and Shirley Nason Baird of Craig; stepson, Fred Nason II of Carmel Valley; brother, Joseph Holt of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Tom Nason and Marion Nason, both of Carmel Valley, Gale Nason Patterson of Washington, Guy Glasenapp and Leslie Glasenapp, both of Carmel Valley, Peggy Taylor of Salinas Valley and Jeff Taylor of Southern California; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Services: Graveside services 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott St., Salinas.

Memorials: California Deer Association, 820 Park Row, Suite 671, Salinas 93901.

Cameron Sapp

Cameron Sapp, 86, of Salinas, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Natividad Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Tennessee and lived in Salinas for 25 years. He was a retired restaurant manager. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Sapp, in 1997.

Survivors: Daughter, Toodie Chambers of Salinas; grandchildren, Clayanna Newbern of Bakersfield and Clay Chamber of Salinas; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Poare of Bakersfield; and great-great-granddaughter, Lexi Atwood of Bakersfield.

Services: At the family's request, none will be held.

Cremation: Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.
