Nellie M. Canman

April 18, 1904 -- Feb. 26, 2000

Nellie May Canman, 95, of Murphys died Saturday at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital, San Andreas.

Mrs. Canman was a native of Indianola, Iowa. She lived in Murphys 34 years. She was a home economics teacher at Bret Harte High School, Angels Camp, from 1952 to 1968.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Burns of Murphys; and two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at the Bauman residence. Private burial. No visitation. Angels Memorial Chapel, Angels Camp, in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the Humane Society of Calaveras County, P.O. Box 216, Hathaway Pines 95233.

Everett E. Clark

Sept. 26, 1920 -- Feb. 28, 2000

Everett Eugene Clark, 79, of Sonora died Monday at Doctors Medical Center, Modesto.

Mr. Clark was a native of Elkhurst, W.Va. He lived in Sonora 37 years. He was an underground construction worker for 35 years; he belonged to the Laborers and Teamsters unions. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Clark of Sonora; children, Robert Clark of Modesto, Bill Clark and Don Clark of Sonora, Betty Clark of Fresno and Ann Benton of Tuolumne City; sister, Virginia Smith of Montevallo, Ala.; and 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sonora First Baptist Church. Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service, Modesto, in charge of arrangements.

Richard C. Collins

Sept. 5, 1917 -- Feb. 28, 2000

Richard Cecil Collins, 82, of Modesto died Monday at Evergreen Convalescent Hospital.

Mr. Collins was a native of Purdy, Okla. He lived in Modesto 55 years. He was a forklift driver for Tillie Lewis Cannery. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his children, Richard C. Collins Jr. of Alaska, Carol J. Terrill and Marylean Collins, both of Modesto, and Geraldine Wampler of Redding; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Ceres Memorial Park, Ceres. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

Mary Y. Conetto

May 2, 1916 -- Feb. 28, 2000

Mary Yrigoyen Conetto, 83, of Modesto died Monday at her home.

Mrs. Conetto was a native and lifelong resident of Modesto. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, George McWilliams of San Francisco; and sister, Martina Hards of Modesto.

A funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the chapel.

Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto 95350.

Lino Garcia

Jan. 26, 1908 -- Feb. 26, 2000

Lino Garcia, 92, of Merced died Saturday at Sutter Merced Medical Center.

Mr. Garcia was a native of Mexico. He lived in Merced 77 years. He was a 40-year employee of Montgomery Farms; he was a foreman. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He is survived by his children, Virginia Quintana of Fresno, Eleanor Neukom of Merced and Edward Garcia of Santa Clara; and eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The rosary will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stratford Evans Merced Chapel. A Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

Librado Godinez

Aug. 17, 1914 -- Feb. 28, 2000

Librado Godinez, 85, of Modesto died Monday at his home.

Mr. Godinez was a native of Palos Marias, Michoacan, Mexico. He lived in Modesto 10 years. He was a field worker for 70 years; he was retired. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Vernardina Godinez of Modesto; children, Carmen Borunda, Mador Godinez and Martha Godinez, all of Modesto, Angelina Bravo and Elena Ezparza, both of Perris, and Guadalupe Godinez, Concepcion Godinez, Liopoldo Godinez and Miguel Godinez, all of Mexico, brothers, Elias Godinez, Juan Godinez, Simon Godinez and Apolinar Godinez, all of Mexico; sister, Candelana Godinez of Mexico; and 52 grandchildren and 75 great-grandchildren.

The rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Evins Funeral Home. A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Burial will be at Ceres Memorial Park, Ceres. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ronald L. Hicks

Aug. 2, 1938 -- Feb. 27, 2000

Ronald Lee Hicks, 61, of Oakdale died Sunday at Oak Valley Hospital.

Mr. Hicks was a native of Berkeley. He lived in Oakdale 22 years. He was a 22-year employee of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore; he was a plant engineer.

He is survived by his companion, Melody Gunter of Oakdale; children, Stephen Hicks of Hawaii and Joyce Courtade of Escalon; sisters, Cathy Baxter and Sharon Baxter, both of Livermore; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at 11254 Walnut Ave. Oakdale Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Darrell W. Harden

Aug. 21, 1961 -- Feb. 27, 2000

Darrell W. Harden, 38, of Modesto died Sunday at his home.

Mr. Harden was a native of Long Beach. He lived in Modesto 30 years. He was a police officer for the city of Turlock for 17 years. He belonged to the Turlock Police Officers Association, the Stanislaus County Peace Officers Association and the California Narcotics Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda Marie Harden of Modesto; children, Courtney Marie Harden and Morgan Nicole Harden, both of Modesto; parents, George and Dorothy Harden of Modesto; brothers, Steve Harden and Mike Harden, both of Modesto; sister, Linda Bell of Atwater; and grandmother, Caroline Ada of Sacramento.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Centenary United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs and from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.

Margaret G. Howell

Feb. 6, 1906 -- Feb. 28, 2000

Margaret G. Howell, 94, of Modesto died Monday at Evergreen Convalescent Hospital.

Mrs. Howell was a native of Cambridge, Mo. She lived in Modesto 70 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Maze Boulevard Christian Church.

She is survived by her children, Dorothy Miller of Sparks, Nev., Hazel Paul, Jenette Baptiste and Edward Howell of Modesto; and 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m Friday at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs.

Rowena Leitch

Aug. 2, 1950 -- Feb. 17, 2000

Rowena Leitch, 49, of El Paso, Texas, died Feb. 17 at her home.

Mrs. Leitch was a native of San Antonio. She lived in El Paso 24 years. She attended Mark Twain School and was a graduate of Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp. She was active in Rainbow Girls. She was a teacher of math, science and computers. She was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War; she served in the Air Force for six years and attained the rank of staff sergeant.

She is survived by her husband, William Leitch of El Paso; children, Kenneth Leitch and Keith Leitch, both of Las Cruces, N.M., and Mark Leitch of Washington, D.C.; and father, Roy Daniels of Angels Camp.

Services were conducted Feb. 22 in El Paso. Burial was at the National Cemetery. Angels Memorial Chapel, Angels Camp, in charge of arrangements.

Jose Luna

June 21, 1906 -- Feb. 28, 2000

Jose Luna, 93, of Turlock died Monday at Brandel Manor convalescent hospital.

Mr. Luna was a native of Aguascalientes, Mexico. He lived in Turlock one year. He was a farmer for 70 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Luisa Casillas of Turlock; children, Antonio Luna and San Juana Luna, both of Turlock, Elias Luna of Corona and Jesus Luna of Ontario; and 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Chapel. A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

Joe Martin Jr.

Jan. 26, 1912 -- Feb. 23, 2000

Joe Martin Jr., 88, of Manteca died Feb. 23 at Sunbridge of Manteca Convalescent Hospital.

Mr. Martin was a native of California. He lived in Manteca 10 years and previously lived in Escalon 40 years. He was a self-employed dairyman.

He is survived by his children, Raymond Martin of Tracy and Beverly Deeley of Stockton; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Private services. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Escalon. Deegan Funeral Chapel, Escalon, in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin, 2609 E. Hammer Lane, Stockton 95210.
