Peter “Pete” Frank Savone

Peter “Pete” Frank Savone, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 surrounded by family at home in Volcano.
Mr. Savone was born on Feb. 15, 1934 in Madison, Wisc., and came to California with his parents as a young boy.
In 1952 he moved to San Francisco where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary and in 1969 they moved to Sacramento.
Pete worked for many years as a salesman. Later he became a mechanic, in business for himself for several years, then working for PG&E, the Sacramento Police Department and SMUD.
He “retired” in 1980 when he and Rosemary moved to Volcano to build their home. After “retirement” he worked for both Amador and Calaveras counties in maintenance.
He was known as a skillful and resourceful mechanic who continually demonstrated his ability to fix anything with whatever was at hand.
He continued to use those skills to assist others until the end of his life.
Pete was an avid outdoorsman. In his younger years, he enjoyed taking his family hunting, fishing and on many other outdoor adventures.
Pete’s love for the outdoors was enhanced by his move to Amador County where he loved the serenity of this remote location.
In his later years, Pete continued to be spirited and was known for his goodwill to others.
He will be remembered as a gracious and entertaining host, for his storytelling and for his creative and ironic sense of humor.
Pete is survived by his wife Rosemary; son, Daniel and his wife, Kerry; son, David and his life partner, Judy Nishi; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Burt Barham; nieces and nephews, Lisa, Todd, Bridget and Kevin; grandnieces and nephews, Vanessa, Dylan, Gavin, Matthew and Jonathan and “his man, Friday,” Dan Hirsch.
In addition, Pete valued the Placerville DaVida Dialysis Center staff, as if they were family, for their care in enhancing his final months of life.
Friends and neighbors are invited to a gathering in celebration of Pete’s life at the Savone home in Volcano on Sunday, Feb. 13.

Dec. 1, 1921 - Feb. 10, 2005
Max Ehmke, 83, of Pine Grove, died on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 in Jackson.
Mr. Ehmke was born on Dec. 1, 1921 in Los Banos.
Max was in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed on the USS Leonard Wood which was awarded commendations for service in action.
He survived six invasions in the South Pacific and crossed the equator 14 times during his years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion Post at Sutter Hill and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 3322.
Max was the beloved husband of Ruth Ehmke, who will be 85 on Monday.
They have lived in Pine Grove for the last 17 years.
After his retirement from PG&E, he loved traveling, boating, picnicking and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ehmke of Pine Grove; two sons, Ronald and his wife Mary of Tracy and Bill Ehmke of Pine Grove; stepdaughter, Janet and her husband David of Acampo; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.
Arrangements are being handled by McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.

William Max Ehmke
Jan. 28, 1952 - April 2, 2005
William Max Ehmke, 53 of Pine Grove, died on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at his home in Pine Grove.
Mr. Ehmke was born on Jan. 28, 1952 in California.
He lived most of his life in Fresno before moving to Pine Grove with his parents.
He liked to fish and camp. He adored animals, nature and being outdoors.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Ehmke of Pine Grove; and daughter, 9-year old Shannon Ehmke also of Pine Grove.
He was preceded in death by his father, Max Ehmke.
Memorial service is pending at this time. Arrangements are being handled by McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.
George Paul Hubach
April 24, 1923 - Feb. 28, 2005
George Paul Hubach, 81, entered into rest on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005.
Mr. Hubach was born on April 24, 1923 in Brighton, Colo. to John and Margaret Hubach.
George and Lydia were married on June 9, 1946, in Brighton, Colo.
George was a 2nd Lt. during World War II and served as a B-17 navigator in the ETO.
For 37 years, he was employed by Safeway Stores, Inc., in the Denver, Phoenix, Sacramento and San Francisco Divisions.
He retired on Dec. 31, 1983, as controller for the San Francisco Division.
George was a member of Sons in Retirement, Association of Retired Safeway Employees, 381st Bomb Group Memorial Association and was a charter member of the World War II Memorial.
He is survived by his beloved wife; Lydia Hubach; daughter Karon Hopkins of Alameda; son, Greg Hubach of Valley Village; son, Randall Hubach; daughter-in-law, Vicki Hubach and grandchildren, Erin and Christopher Hubach of Sutter Creek; sisters, Clara Hubach Mueller of Oviedo, Fla., and Marion Hubach Kuster of Crook, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held on Friday, March 4 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Gisela Dubielczyk, 69, of Pioneer, died on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Sacramento.
Mrs. Dubielczyk was born on Aug. 5, 1935 in Berlin, Germany.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Pioneer.
