Peter “Pete” Frank Savone

Feb. 15, 1934 - Feb. 6, 2005

Peter “Pete” Frank Savone, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 surrounded by family at home in Volcano.

Mr. Savone was born on Feb. 15, 1934 in Madison, Wisc., and came to California with his parents as a young boy.

In 1952 he moved to San Francisco where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary and in 1969 they moved to Sacramento.

Pete worked for many years as a salesman. Later he became a mechanic, in business for himself for several years, then working for PG&E, the Sacramento Police Department and SMUD.

He “retired” in 1980 when he and Rosemary moved to Volcano to build their home. After “retirement” he worked for both Amador and Calaveras counties in maintenance.

He was known as a skillful and resourceful mechanic who continually demonstrated his ability to fix anything with whatever was at hand.

He continued to use those skills to assist others until the end of his life.

Pete was an avid outdoorsman. In his younger years, he enjoyed taking his family hunting, fishing and on many other outdoor adventures.

Pete’s love for the outdoors was enhanced by his move to Amador County where he loved the serenity of this remote location.

In his later years, Pete continued to be spirited and was known for his goodwill to others.

He will be remembered as a gracious and entertaining host, for his storytelling and for his creative and ironic sense of humor.

Pete is survived by his wife Rosemary; son, Daniel and his wife, Kerry; son, David and his life partner, Judy Nishi; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Burt Barham; nieces and nephews, Lisa, Todd, Bridget and Kevin; grandnieces and nephews, Vanessa, Dylan, Gavin, Matthew and Jonathan and “his man, Friday,” Dan Hirsch.

In addition, Pete valued the Placerville DaVida Dialysis Center staff, as if they were family, for their care in enhancing his final months of life.

Friends and neighbors are invited to a gathering in celebration of Pete’s life at the Savone home in Volcano on Sunday, Feb. 13.

Please call 209-296-4763 for time and directions.

Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Amador, P.O. Box 595, Jackson 95642 or the National Kidney Foundation of Northern California, 131 Steuart, Ste. 520, San Francisco 94105.
