Debra L. Van De Vreugde

Debra L. Van De Vreugde, age 51, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 17 at Kaiser Medical Center Walnut Creek, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Sheboygan, WI, and moved to Livermore, in 1975.

For the past 15 years Debbie was employed through the Livermore School District, most recently at Livermore High School as a senior food services assistant. Debbie also committed herself to the Livermore High Band & Colorguard as a volunteer. She truly loved her work and cherished the many friends she made.

She is survived by her husband Jim, son Erik (Sara) of Bakersfield, and daughter Kristen. She is also survived by her parents Norm and Diane Worm, sisters Colleen (Bob) Reineking, Donna (Rick) Mulder, and their children, all of Sheboygan Falls, WI; by her father-in-law Joe Van De Vreugde of Sheboygan Falls, WI; brother-in-laws John (fiancé Abbe) Van De Vreugde of West Bend, WI; and Joel (Christine) Van De Vreugde of Plymouth, WI, and their children. She is further survived by her special aunt, Elaine Worm, of Sheboygan, WI. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Dorothy Van De Vreugde.

Debbie was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. Her memory will remain in our hearts and will be forever cherished. We have all been enriched with her friendship and her great sense of humor right up to the end.

Her family will always cherish the special care and compassion given to Debbie during her final days at Kaiser Medical Center. Especially the care provided by Kathy, Joan, Mary, Ariella, and all of her health care providers on third floor oncology.

At her request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

Lynn M. Lindberg

Lynn M. Lindberg died March 17, 2007 while vacationing on Maui. She succumbed to ovarian cancer after a seven-year battle with that dreaded disease.

Lynn had an incredible zest for life. In the last several years Hawaii had become a favorite destination with its warm waters, sea turtles, and humpback whales. She enjoyed gardening, hiking, kayaking, and snorkeling. Lynn loved animals and volunteered her time in support of several wildlife organizations. As a member of the Board of Directors for The Wildlife Center Inc., Española, Lynn served terms as Treasurer, Vice President, and Chairman.

A native of Connecticut, Lynn had lived in California and New Mexico most of her adult life. After spending 30 years in the Santa Fe area she returned to Northern California in 2002, moving to Livermore.

She held a B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston. A gifted artist, illustrator, graphic designer, and entrepreneur Lynn created many logos and brand identities that can still be found in the San Francisco Bay Area and New Mexico. She also volunteered with the Northern New Mexico Community College serving on its Drafting Department Advisory Board for four years with a term as President in 1994.

Lynn is survived by her husband Chris of Livermore, her son David Phipps of San Rafael, and many friends in California, New Mexico, and Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Alice Malarney.

A memorial service was held April 5th in Livermore. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in her memory to The Santa Fe Raptor Center (P.O. Box 32021, Santa Fe, NM 87594), or your favorite wildlife center.

Wesley Tsunco Saki

Wesley Tsunco Saki died June 18, 2007 in Livermore. He was 55.

The native of Lanai, HI had lived in Livermore for one year. He earned a BBA from the University of Hawaii and worked as a sales representative for four years at US Pipe. His hobbies included reading, and playing tennis and golf.

He is survived by his wife Diane Cynthia Saki, his mother Mrs. Sueko “Joyce” Saki, a daughter, Cam Saki of Oregon, sisters Denise Saki and Ann Saki-Eli and brother Clyde Saki, all of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Hiroshi Saki.

A memorial service at Milalani Mortuary in Hawaii is pending. Burial will be at Mililani Memorial Park in Hawaii.

Elma Evangeline Groth

Elma Evangeline Groth died June 19, 2007 in Pleasanton. She was 93.

The native of California had lived in Pleasanton for 20 years and prior to that in Merced for 35 years. Elma worked as an administrative assistant for forty years.

She is survived by a son, Edward Groth of Pleasanton, a brother Virgil Brush of Modesto and a grandchild, Kelly Groth of Pleasanton. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Groth, Sr. in 2000.

A private burial is planned.

Rasiklal Acharya

Rasiklal Acharya died June 20, 2007 in Livermore. He was 87.

The native of Jamnagar, India had lived in Livermore for three years. He moved here from Valsad, India where he had lived for 50 years. He earned a Master of Science in chemical engineering and worked as a chemical engineer for 40 years at Atul Products Ltd. in Atul, India. His hobbies included music, literature, travel and bridge. He was a member of the University of Wisconsin Alumnus.

He is survived by daughters-in-law Geeta, Vandana and Ismani, sons Magay, Pallav and Jagat, a sister Arvinda Pandya and grandchildren Isman, Amesh, Shree, Satya and Shiv as well as nieces and nephews Yamini and Tushar. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Taralika Acharya.

A visitation was held June 22 in Pleasanton.

Irene G. Bauer

Irene G. Bauer died June 20, 2007 in Livermore. She was 84.

The native of Colorado had lived in Livermore for 21 years. Prior to that she had lived in Northridge for 31 years. Irene liked reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of ValleyCare Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Murray of Livermore, a son, Edward Bauer of Cedarburg, WI, brothers, Fred, Kenneth and Dwayne Gammel, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Bauer.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Fri., June 29 at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., Pleasanton.

Lamar William Coleman

Lamar William Coleman died September 19, 2007 at the age of 73.

Born February 19, 1934 at the U.S. Naval Base in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to William F. Coleman and Henrietta G. Coleman, Lamar Coleman had a “Marine Corps upbringing.” He lived in China, Hawaii, Princeton, and at several Marine Corps bases throughout the United States. A graduate of Virginia Military Institute in 1955, Lamar spent one year at Carnegie Institute of Technology before earning his Ph.D. in Physics at Oregon State University in 1963.

Moving to Livermore, California in 1964, Lamar found fulfilling work at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, first in B Division, and later in the Laser Program/ICF Program (Inertial Confinement Fusion) and finally as Chief of Staff in the Laboratory Director’s Office. He continued to work in an advisory capacity after his retirement in 1999. At the time of his death he was involved with the Archives and also served on the LLESA (Livermore Lab Employee Services Assoc., Inc.) Board. He was a member of the American Physical Society and Sigma Xi.

Devoting his life to his family, the First Presbyterian Church, and various pursuits such as volunteering at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Livermore, Lamar still managed to travel extensively. Recent trips included Spain, Scotland and an Alaskan Cruise, which he particularly enjoyed.

Lamar is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rosemary Ann Scott Coleman of Livermore, sister Nancy Coleman Barth of Oregon, sons William Scott Coleman of Livermore and Christopher Lamar Coleman, daughter-in-law, Marta Espinal-Fatjo and grandson Alex Scott Coleman all of Santa Clara, California.

Services were held on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Livermore.

Contributions in Lamar Coleman’s name may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 2020 Fifth Street, Livermore, CA 94550.

Matthew Connolly

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for lifelong Tracy resident and rancher Matthew Joseph Connolly, 49, who died Monday at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. Connolly was born in Stockton on 04/14/1958.

He was a longtime rancher near Tracy and was also an attorney and CPA. He was a member of the Tracy High Class of 1976. He graduated from Santa Clara University in 1980, was licensed as a CPA in 1986 and received his Juris Doctorate in Law in 1989. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Tracy Rotary, the State Bar Association of California, the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Toastmasters. He also taught at California State University, Stanislaus. He enjoyed being on his ranch and loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving father, son, brother and a friend to many.

Connolly is survived by his son, Joseph Robert Connolly, of Tracy; mother, Aileen Connolly, of Tracy; siblings Patrick Connolly, and his wife, Diana, of Tracy, Molly and Peggy Connolly, both of Fremont and Mary Connolly of Seaside, and Mark Connolly, and his wife, Celeste, of Tracy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Connolly. Services were held at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Tracy on September 27.

Sandra Day Santiago

Sandra Day Santiago passed away peacefully at ValleyCare Medical Center on September 27, 2007. She was 52.

She was born Oct. 23, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland and had resided in Pleasanton for 20 years. Prior to that she lived in Vallejo. She graduated from Hogan High School in Vallejo. She was homemaker and employed by Ang Newspapers for 18 years.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Santiago of Pleasanton and father Charles W. Lanzar of Winston Salem, NC. She is survived by her mother Sonya Roberts, son Jason Santiago and daughter Carla Santiago, a sister Cheryl Asher of Vallejo, four grandchildren, two nieces and a nephews.

Services were held Oct. 2 in Pleasanton. Burial was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.

Vera Emma Carr

Vera Emma Carr died September 28, 2007. She was 88.

Carr was born in Middletown, OH Sept. 7, 1919. She made her home in Middletown and Monroe, Ohio for 81 years before moving to Pleasanton seven years ago to be near her family. She furthered her education at Business and Secretarial School, working several years at Armco Steel and 15 years with the Middletown School Distract. Vera played the cello for 15 years with the Middletown Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles. She also mastered the piano. She was an accomplished enameler and porcelain painter and enjoyed needlepoint. Other interests were reading, traveling extensively in Europe, and was an avid Wedgewood and antique collector.

Vera is survived by a son, Gary Edward Carr, daughters-in-law Ann Carr and Patti Carr, and grandchildren, Rebecca, Natalie and Kristen Carr. She was preceded in death by her parents Alma Schirmeyer and Albert Schirmeyer, her husband of 38 years, W. Gordon Carr, and a son W. Leonard Carr.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs., Oct. 4 at Valley Community Church, 4455 Del Valle Parkway, Pleasanton. Burial will be at North Cemetery in Monroe, OH.

Ernest William Bernard

Ernest William Bernard died September 30, 2007. He was 89.

He was born in Niles Jan. 1, 1918, then moved to Pleasanton as a young boy. He graduated from Amador Valley High School and afterwards served in the Army during World War II. He started the first Boys and Girls Club in Pleasanton. He retired after working for Lone Star for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joni, daughter and son-in-law Margery and Frank Bupp of Las Vegas, NV, son and daughter-in-law William and Stephanie Bernard of Las Vegas, NV, two grandsons and four great granddaughters. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law Alvin and Vicki Bernard and many nieces and nephews.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thurs., Oct. 4 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 3999 Bernal Ave., Pleasanton. Burial will be at St. Augustine Cemetery in Pleasanton.

Carol Ann Dahl

After a courageous battle with lung cancer, Mom left us on Sept. 27, 2007, to be with her Mom, Dad; Brothers and Sisters Skip, Jim, Mary and Deanna.

Born on Dec. 12, 1943 in Michigan, Carol is survived by her hHusband, Jack; Sister Bobbie; daughters Starla, Lisa, Shelly, Stacey and 10 very precious grandchildren. She also leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends.

Carol was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She could light up a room with her beautiful blue eyes and was always generous with her warm and comforting hugs. She enjoyed holidays, sunshine, flowers on her front porch, making and “eating” goodies, and crocheting for her family and friends. She touched the lives of everyone who met her and she will be greatly missed.
