Kathleen C. Hansen
Kathleen C. Hansen passed
away peacefully on September
20, 2009. She was 82. She was
born on Staten Island, New York
on June 9, 1927.
Kathleen entered St. Vincent's
School of nursing at the age of
17 in New York City. When she
graduated, she entered the Navy
as an ensign. One year later, she
met her husband to be, Richard
Hansen, at an officers club in
Philadelphia. They married on
March 10, 1949 and moved to
California, where they spent the
rest of their lives and raised their
seven children. Kathleen was
a kind and loving woman. Her
family was her life. She will be
dearly missed.
Kathleen was preceded in
death by her husband, Richard
Hansen, daughter, Peggy Hansen,
and son, Patrick Hansen. She is
survived by her sister, Jane Claffy
of Red Hook, NY; daughter
Colleen O'Neal of Livermore,
daughter Kathleen McGehee of
Manteca; son Christopher Hansen
of Pensacola, Florida; son
Mark Hansen of Sparks, Nevada;
and daughter Mary Heaton of
Livermore; as well as fifteen
grandchildren and two great
grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service
at the Presidio Military Cemetery
in San Francisco on November
27, 2009 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please send
donations to Hospice House of
San Joaquin in Stockton.

Howard M. Vandevanter “Van”
Howard M. Vandevanter “Van” died
September 30, 2009.
Van was born in Mattoon, IL. to
Orville and Iola Vandevanter on
August 3, 1925..
He was employed as an electrician
at the Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory for 35
years and also taught journeyman
electrician for the IBEW.
Van was the beloved husband
of 63 years, to Muriel Vandevanter
and father of Dale, Gary, and
Rob Vandevanter. Van was a
devoted grandfather of 10 and
great grandfather of 15.
Viewing is at 9 a.m. and services
at 11 a.m. on Thursday October
8, at Callaghan Mortuary,
3833 East Ave., Livermore.
In lieu of flowers please send
donations to the Shriners’ Childrens
Hospital or the Alzheimer’s
Association.

James J. Moriarty
James (Jim) J. Moriarty, 74,
loving husband, devoted father,
and doting grandfather, passed
away peacefully on October 1,
2009 after a 10-year battle with
Parkinson’s.
Born on July 3, 1935 and
raised in Yankton, South Dakota,
Jim and his wife of 50 years, Geralda
(Geri), moved to Livermore,
California in 1962.
He is survived by his wife
Geri, sons Patrick (wife Nancy)
and Gregory, daughter Julia,
and grandsons Nicholas, Nyles,
Nathan and Noah. He is also
survived by sister Lois (Vermillion,
SD), and brothers Michael
(Livermore, CA) and Donald
(Springfield, SD). Preceding
Jim in death were his parents,
Charles and Magdalene, brother
Charles, and sisters MaryAn and
Patricia.
Donations can be sent in Jim’s
memory to the National Parkinson
or Alzheimer’s Foundations.
Services will be held on October
12 at 11:00, St. Michael’s Church,
458 Maple St., Livermore.

Mert Murray
Mert Murray passed away
peacefully at Mercy General
Hospital in Sacramento, CA, on
September 23, 2009. He
was surrounded by his loving
wife and family.
He was born in Graceville, MN,
August 16, 1930 and
was a 66-year resident of Pleasanton.
He attended Pleasanton Grammar
School and graduated from
Amador High School in 1949.
He joined the Air Force in January
of 1951. He married his
high school sweetheart, Gladys
Cardoza in October of 1951. He
was stationed at Travis Air Force
Base until 1955. They then returned
to Pleasanton to raise their
family. He was a very successful
building contractor in Pleasanton,
building a 5,000 square-foot
addition to the Community First
National Bank, the Adobe Plaza
Shopping Center and Redwood
Place condominiums on Ray
Street, the Chianti Villas on Norton
Way and many other projects.
He loved the smell of fresh lumber
and working with it.
He retired in 1987, and enjoyed
spending time in Pleasanton
and at their Lake Wildwood
home near Grass Valley, CA. He
and Gladys enjoyed traveling
to many wonderful places and
spending lots of time together.
He was predeceased by his
eleven year old daughter Leslie,
in 1969, and will be reunited in
heaven with her and his parents,
Melvin and Margarete Murray,
sisters Melvina, Muriel, and
brother Mervin. He is survived
by his wife Gladys, son Kevin
of Grass Valley, daughter Lori
Fraser and son-in-law Bruce of
Lake Wildwood. He also leaves
behind a host of nieces and
nephews and many long time
friends.
His family and friends can
gather for a vigil on Wednesday,
October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at
Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167
First Street, Pleasanton, and
also to celebrate his life with a
mass on Thursday, October 15
at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine
Catholic Church, 3999 Bernal
Ave., Pleasanton, CA, 94566.
Private internment will be at
Saint Augustine's cemetery in
Pleasanton. The family requests
donations be made to the charity
of your choice.

Eulalia “Lolly” Costa
Lolly went home to be with
the Lord, on September 29, 2009
at the age of 64. Lolly was a resident
of Livermore for 37 years,
with her husband David.
Lolly loved bowling, golf
and playing Bunko. Lolly loved
to have her family and friends
around her at all times, she will
be dearly missed by all who
knew her.
She was preceded in death
by her parents Mariano and
Dorothea Martinez and brother
Al Martinez.
Lolly is survived by her
husband of 44 years David,
her loving daughters Christina
and Sylvia Costa of Livermore
and by her loving son David
(Amy) Costa of Tracy. She is also
survived by her grandchildren
Davina Moncada of Livermore
and Brandon, Rylie, Gracie and
Jackson Costa of Tracy.
Mass of the Resurrection for
Lolly was held at St. Michael’s
Catholic Church on Wednesday,
Oct. 7, 2009. Burial took place
at Roselawn Cemetery, Livermore.
