Bert J. Young
Bert J. Young passed away
peacefully in his apartment in
Carson City, Nevada on February
21, 2010 at the age of 93.
Bert was born on December
5, 1916 in Livermore, California.
His parents were Frederick
Young and Josephine Young
(O’Mera). He had two brothers
and two sisters: Fred, Francis,
Ann and Mary. He is survived by
his son; Bert T. Young, daughterin-
law; Vickie L. Clay, grandson;
Adam G. Young; and sister Mary
Young.
Bert grew up in Livermore,
California. Although his family
owned a small ranch and creamery,
the majority of the family's
income came from their work
as electrical contractors. By the
time Bert graduated from high
school in 1934 he was already
an accomplished electrician. His
first job out of high school was as
a county fireman in Livermore.
In 1939, Bert married the love
of his life, Kathryn V. Harris.
They were absolutely devoted to
each other and spent almost all
of their free time in each other’s
company.
In 1940, Bert went to work
as an electrician in the Kaiser
Shipyards. He was frustrated
with the confusion and inefficiency
of the process, and he
redid the wiring plans, which
brought him to the attention of
the shipyard managers. They put
him to work training electricians
first directly for Kaiser and then
in Oakland at what is now Laney
College. This was the beginning
of his teaching career. He took
courses at Cal, Berkeley and
later at Fresno State, but he never
earned a degree.
In 1942 Bert joined the U.S.
Navy Seabees. He went on active
duty in 1943 and served
in the 91st Seabee battalion on
New Guinea and later in the
Philippines. He was discharged
in 1945.
After the war he had a series
of unusual jobs including as a
flume tender and an electrician
on a dredger. In 1947 Bert and
Kathryn moved to Stockton and
he began teaching first at Stockton
High School, then Stockton
College and then at Delta College.
In 1949 his only child Bert
T. Young was born.
Bert taught in Stockton from
1947 to 1979. He was an active
member of the International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers,
the California Teachers Association
and served as president
of the faculty senate at Delta
College.
Following the death of his
wife Kathryn, Bert lived alone
at his place in the mountains near
Avery, California. In 2004, due
to failing eye sight and back and
hip problems, he could no longer
live by himself in the mountains.
He moved to Carson City in order
to be near his son and daughterin-
law and grandson. He is survived
and mourned by his family,
friends and the generations of
students whom he taught.

Albert Michael Will
Long time Livermore resident
and Elk member Albert Michael
Will died on February 26, 2010.
He was 82.

retired from Pacific Bell.
He is survived by his children,
son Donald, daughter Camille
and sons Alan and Toby, his
wife Ruth-Miller-Will and her
children Raymond, Lynnette,
and Wayne.
A private service will be held
in April at the San Joaquin Valley
National Cemetery.

away peacefully at home in
Pleasanton on March 7, 2010.
He was born Jan. 28, 1922 in
Chewella, Washington.
He leaves behind his loving
wife, Lourdes; his sister Fay; his
sons and daughters, Cameron and
Jan, Carol and Tom, Lou and Jim,
Iza and Bernie, Isabel and Niall,
Lia and Jack, Sherry and Don,
Weena and Joey, and Marika;
grandchildren, Miggy and Kelly,
Nikki, Dominique, Rocky, Francesca,
Angelica, Anton, Sela, DJ,
Brandon, Steve, Eric, Brian and
Tommy; his caregiver, Chona;
his faithful companion, Pooch
and devoted pack, Stacia, Gucci
and Chiquita.
Franklin served his country
with honor as a Navy fighter
pilot during World War II; had a
distinguished career as a nuclear
physicist at Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory; and was
a proud scratch golfer and past
president and member of the
board of Castlewood Golf and
Country Club.
His love of sports spanned
the seasons. From his favorite
tv chair, he filled our home with
the sounds of the stadium and
the golf course gallery. His was
a quiet, unspoken love. But its
silence embraced us. The memories
he leaves behind will last for
all seasons.
Sweetheart, Frankie, Daddyo,
Grandpa, the last year and a
half was a long par drive off the
tee. But you gave it your best
shot. So here’s a fist pump for our
champ. You earned it.
We will miss you terribly,
especially mom. Thank you for
all your love.
“Your memory is my keepsake
with which I’ll never part
God has you in His keeping, I
have you in my heart.”
Frank was pre-deceased by his
first wife Gladys and daughter,
Noel.
A memorial service will be
held at the Graham Hitch Mortuary,
4617 First Street, Pleasanton
on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 2:00
p.m. reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations be made to
Hope Hospice, 6377 Clark Ave.,
Ste #100, Dublin, CA 94568 in
his memory, thank you.
Arrangements by Graham-
Hitch Mortuary.
